Can a blunt pragmatist and a hopeful romantic design a perfect relationship?

Caroline Winters’ architectural career is her top priority. Her Number One rule has always been ‘No Relationships’. But when she’s selected as the lead designer of the Calderone Industries office complex, that rule is put to the test when she must work with the owner’s son. He is artistic and gorgeous but why won’t he let her do the job she’s qualified to do?

Charles Calderone is a connoisseur of all fine things and knows there’s more to life than just a job. His VP position in the family business has always had its challenges, but this architect is driving him to distraction. She is talented and beautiful but has the infuriating habit of confronting him on every design decision!

Tempers flare and sparks fly as their professional and personal lives collide. Can they find a way to navigate through their endless power struggles to finish this project successfully? Or will both their careers end up in ruins?

Born in Lancashire, England to a Lawrence Welk-loving mum and a Monty Python-loving dad – tea drinkers all – we moved to Canada when I was seven. “Say book, say look” my new classmates would hound me just so they could have a good chuckle at my accent. But being incredibly shy, this was a great way for me to make friends.

My love of words and a creative imagination prompted English teachers to urge me to write for a living. My grade 12 Creative Writing teacher suggested I send a sample of my “sizzling dialogue” to the (then) three major television studios in New York City. He was convinced one of them would hire me to write for a soap opera. But, being the still-shy teenager, I didn’t have the courage to do it.

Through the years, I wrote all types of stories while I earned a living as an Administrative Assistant in various businesses including a bank, a car rental firm, an ice cream company, and a pharmaceutical manufacturer. I was more than a little peeved when I discovered none of them gave out free samples. Do you believe that? None of them! Geez.  I went on to own a Wedding Coordination business for six years (talk about romance!), all the while being happily married to the love of my life (yep – even more romance!).

These interesting jobs plus wedded bliss gave me oodles of ideas for romantic plot lines, swoon-worthy heroes and feisty, beautiful heroines, and, of course, the happy ever afters.

So amidst endless cups of strong tea while Cole Porter tunes and the dead parrot sketch whirl around in my brain, I write romances with a dollop of humour. I have an irresistible need to create captivating characters whose lives I can make completely miserable before giving them their happy ending.

I currently live in Mississauga and wonder how all the wine and chocolate magically appear in my house…
