I always have the best time reading anything Pulkinen writes and this most definitely was no exception. I found myself laughing out loud and just having so much fun while reading about Alice and Shift Creek. If you love a good Paranormal romance with an honest dose of comedy thrown in and a snarky sassy heroine you will love this book. Buy it immediately!

Isle of Wings: A Silverglen Companion Novel by E.A. Burnett
I love reading a fantasy book from time to time. It takes you to a different world but in some ways the same as where we live. This YA fantasy has magic, danger, sorcerers, action, mystery and so much more to keep you turning the page to see what happens next. Roana is trying to run away from her past she not only lost her family but is accused of killing them. When Roana is caught on a ship she shouldn’t be on, her life takes another turn. The wonderful strong characters in this book make it so much more than just a story. The journey these characters take are life changing and you can see how they grow during the adventure. I hope you like this book as much as I did!

Rick Ingram is youngest of the three boys and from what I can tell is the most guarded of the three but that makes sense since he feels like he has to keep his entire life a secret from everyone. I haven’t read the first two books in this series yet so I’m guessing here.
There are so many things about this book that I really enjoyed and holy smokes Rick and Brett have some incredibly hot moments. I think there was smoke coming from my kindle a few times whole reading.
Rick’s feelings aren’t uncommon which is heartbreaking to me. I think he was comfortable with who he was, but not with sharing that side of himself with anyone. Nobody should have to hide their true self out of fear of how people will feel about them. I hope there is a time where everyone is able to be their true self at all times.
Ms. Lee is a new to me author and I really enjoyed reading this book. I plan on looking at her catalog and reading other books by her.

This is the first book I’ve read by Burnett. She has a way with the words and I love it. Burnett knows how to capture our, the readers, attention and keep it.
Roana is the only one left in her family. Her dad being a Rain Mage and the last one heard of is now gone. Her sister was training to be a Rain Mage. Now everyone blames her for their death. The quote I chose for Roana is: “I’m sure we’ll find it.”
Iniko isn’t sure how to move on with his life. With his father taken during a horrible storm. One that didn’t seem natural. After meeting Roana he knows things weren’t as they seemed. The quote I chose for Iniko is: “We need to get you to a healer. We have to walk to Taragona. Do you think you can walk that far?”

This is my first book by this author and I wasn’t sure what to expect. It is a well-written fantasy book. It has all that of a good fantasy. The plotline is an intriguing story that has ancient secrets, pasts, and a journey that keeps the pages moving at a nice pace. The characters are fully developed and enhance the story to make the story enjoyable. The story is about Sabiya. She lives in a town that looks down on women. We watch as Sabiya starts her journey which makes this story so interesting. I highly recommend this book so that you can follow Sabiya’s journey. I suggest setting some aside because once you start reading this book you may not want to put it down.

This is the story of Uqnitum, she is the daughter of a musician and has a family with her husband who plays the lyre, she lives with her son and pregnant daughter in Kahat, a city in the Mitannian Empire and they are under siege from the Assyrians and have been for months, they are running out of food and water and the relentless pounding of the battering ram against the city gates has become the norm, they toil away in the daytime moving rocks to the gate, everyone plays their part, the women and children moving the rocks and the men breaking the buildings down and piling the rocks behind the gate. At night, she thinks about the past, how she met her husband, defied her father and ran away to start a family, also the differences in their personalities and how they can sometimes work against the other and resentment creeps in, but she knows she has to be string in the circumstances for them all regardless of whether they can be strong in return.
The daily routine has been the same until one night when the gate is breached and all hell breaks loose in the small city, it turns out that the Assyrians have been undermining the city walls and now they are collapsing along with their houses, as Uqnitum wakes in the middle of the night, she realises what is happening and herds her family out of the house in an attempt to escape the soldiers, they however become surrounded by the soldiers as well as the fires their arrows have ignited in their neighbours homes and after declaring that they are musicians and singers, hoping for leniency, they are moved and grouped with the other residents of the city, where they are all bound together and led through the city gates, all the while stepping on the bodies of their neighbours and outside to the army camp where they are separated from her husband.
A water flask is passed round, she manages to get her son to drink despite his fear, they then begin to march in a long line as the day heats up, they are exhausted, thirsty and hungry, but they have to keep moving onwards, the soldiers seeing that they do by hitting them with their swords flat edge if they fall behind and those who do fall are left where they fall for the vultures. Eventually they come to a river and are forced to cross, Uqnitum and her daughter carry her son across, he can’t swim and has a fear of water, fortunately, he keeps his eyes shut and they make it across, but as he becomes more tired, she is worried that he may start to cry and scream, he prays that he won’t. Later on they all stop marching and the men are brought back, only for them to be blinded by the soldiers using hot pokers,Uqnitum’s husband is spared when she repeats that he is a musician, but nobody else is as lucky, after this horrendous event, they are allowed to rest, the water flask is passed round again, as is some dry bread, her sons still struggles understanding what is going on and this all comes to a head when the worst happens and he attacks one of the soldiers for taking the water away, all too quickly it is over, her son is dead and Uqnitum flies into a rage over it and because of this her husband is blinded, as the march continues, he loses hope and as the pain and despair overtake him, he goes mad and shouts at a soldier with all the insults and curses he can think of, the soldiers retaliate, he is beaten to death and left at the side of the road as well.
This is just the beginning of their journey when an escape is made and another long journey begins when the rains arrive and a deluge starts, they manage to avoid soldiers, hunters and dogs by crossing rivers, bridges and rolling hills, but they are weak from lack of food, water, shelter and are thankful, but wary when they find the Hittite army and are taken in and taken to the court of Ugarit, however safety is not yet theirs as Uqnitum feels the guilt in her part in the deaths of her family and is struggling to come to terms with it, but will her mind shatter from the grief, or will it make her a stronger person who is able to deal with whatever the future holds? This is a story of tragedy, determination, grief and love, it will leave you heartbroken and yet hopeful at the same time and you will want to read until the end to see what happens to the family on this hard road they take.

I just had to get my hands on this book the moment I saw the cover. Ashley A Quinn is a new author to me, but I can assure this is not going to be the last novel I read by her. I cannot wait to go back and read book one of this series as soon as possible. Wildfire is the second book in The Broken Bow series but not reading book one yet was not a hindrance to this story at all.
Wildfire far exceeded all my expectations and then some. Quinn darn near set my kindle on fire with this romance and the drama and mystery that is woven through it. I adored Tara and Jace and together they were even more formidable. They just had to figure that out for themselves. I won’t give one single juicy detail away because this is one you just have to experience for yourself. You will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to get my hands on book three too!

This was not an easy read for the emotions. I was not sure if I could even keep going at times because the gut feeling I got was wrenching and will be everlasting. Imagine the ASPCA commercials with the music that would make the biggest grinch tear up but over and over for a good solid few hours as you read this. I would recommend the tissues obviously, but this was one that was ultimately worth it. I loved how the ending was some reprieve and happiness that seemed to make the sadness that fills the middle just a bit easier to sit with as you ponder what you read. This book is obviously a topic close to the author’s heart and you can tell with the care and time that went into the details of everything and the way the story flowed with conviction.

This is the story of Roana and Iniko, Roana is nineteen and is desperate to leave the Isle of Wings, since the death of her family which she has been blamed for and the taunts, songs, physical abuse and near drowning by the local children, she has formulated a plan to leave. Iniko is a young man who is working on a ship with aspirations to one day have one of his own, complete with a crew and goods to sell across Skye Lake, he also has a troubled past and secrets of his own to keep.
We start with Roana and her sister sitting with their Grandpa as he sings, tells stories and exchanges riddles with them, a memory of happier times when they were still alive, she then moves to thinking about her Nan and how she has had to leave her and her dog behind on this venture, but also regretting not leaving a note when she left to say goodbye, she only thought of getting herself into the box of baskets and onto the ship. As she is being lifted o the boat, she hears snippets of conversations until her dog makes her way onto the boat and starts sniffing around her crate and the sailors see her in there and decide to open it up, so Roana grabs her knife and as soon as it is, she leaps out preparing to defend herself, as she does, they discuss who they think she is and doesn’t notice the other porters coming up behind her, but as she prepares herself to fight, so as not to be taken to the merchant who she tried to avoid paying fees to, a fearsome woman who is rumoured to be a sorceress as well, she feels a pulling sensation and her panic begin to ebb away from her. When she has been apprehended, she is sent to the sorceress, all the while thinking about how Iniko had managed to control her, but Iniko is wondering whether she is stupid or brave, realising that she is neither and just desperate, he is also trying to place where he has seen her before, he also notices that the dog isn’t all it seems either.
As they are walking, Iniko is trying to figure things out, he realises that although Roana didn’t want to be found, she needed to be and that his intuition was something he followed trusted, he explains why Roana is being brought and much to Roana’s consternation agrees to wait with her dog as it is not allowed in the building they are walking to. As Iniko’s friend leaves him to wait with Roana’s dog he reminisces about the last year which he has spent on the Isle and what his father taught him about being a shipmaster, as well as his dream about the ship he one day wants to own. Meanwhile, Roana is escorted to a room full of hundreds of snakes to wait for the sorceress, as she is marched there, she sees things in the rooms she passes which are mysterious and disturbing at the same time, but this is nothing compared to her meeting with the sorceress herself and the conversation they have about her past, present and possible future, as well as a glimpse into the sorceresses at the same time. Roana has no idea what just occurred when she is taken away from the room of snakes and led towards the outside, but when the guard is distracted by a serving woman, she is admiring the items she can see and considers stealing something to pay for her way off the island with her dog and grandmother, however as she is trying to find her way back she hears someone approaching and goes into a room to hide, but she finds an egg of a powerful and large species of bird and on a spur of the moment impulse, she decides to take that instead. When she leaves and goes to find Iniko, she declares that he is her husband and so embroils him in her scheme, Iniko is shocked to say the least and despite worrying about the consequences, he goes along with this strange womans plans and pretends that she is with child and stubborn with it, this being sorted out, they leave and make their way through the town and end up running away from a merchant whose property they broke, but Roana is determined to see the egg back to its rightful home, but this plan does not go smoothly either and they are attacked by the birds, so in the end Roana decides to take the egg home and raise it.
This is where Roana and Iniko’s lives meld together and as their situations become more precarious and the dangers they have brought upon themselves increase and things happen beyond their control, can they work together and use their combined skills to overcome their barriers, or will the sorceress find them and bend them to he will? The only way to find out is to travel along the path with the two and discover everything at the same times as they do, prepare yourself for a story full of magic, danger and love which keeps you guessing until the end and leaves you wanting more.

Isle of Wings by E. A. Burnett was a great read! It was so well written, I was instantly transported to another world. The imagery was amazing, it felt like I was standing right there on the isle with all the characters. It was very enthralling. I was first drawn to this book by the cover. It was just so pretty and colorful to me in a basic way. Then I read the synopsis and it sounded very interesting. I’m so glad I picked up this book! I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.

Isle of Wings is a vibrant fantasy novel by E.A. Burnett, a companion to Silverglen that can be read as a standalone. It’s a story with plenty of mysteries and secrets that kept me captivated until the end. My favourite thing about this book is how music was used. Roana uses music in a number of ways, including to connect with memories of her relatives and to bond with animals. There’s even a flute involved which is a big plus for me! There are some great characters in this book. Everyone wants something, and Roana has to try and give them what they want to get what she needs. I particularly like Xetsa, who finds cunning ways of getting into people’s heads and building her power and control. I like how Roana and Iniko balance each other out. Roana is desperate to get away from her past and the burdens of her family, whilst Iniko cannot remember his past or most of his family and is desperate to regain his memories. For me, this is a five-star read. It’s an exciting, magical book that I would recommend to fantasy fans, particularly those who like nautical and/or musical elements in stories!

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes. I love these books so much. The author writes so vividly that I feel as if I’ve been to these places. Its is book 2 but it can be read as a standalone easily but I recommend reading both. This book is set in 14th Century BC and the book tells the story of refugees from the ancient land of Mittani in Mesopotamian. This little known nation has been wiped out by the Assyrians and the refugees of this fine land are all musicians. They are known to have amazing musical skills. Uqnitu is a singer that is not liked at all because of her temper and controlling ways. These things also help her in her field. Of course dysfunctional families are nothing new and Uqnitu comes from a very dysfunctional one. This book shows us horrible conditions these families are living under and building new lives from the ground up. I loved this book and I didn’t want it to end.

I Once Was Lost but Now I’m Found: Daisy and the Olympic Animal Sanctuary Rescue by Laura Koerber. This is a very emotional story of animals and the abuse they were under when a man named Markwell ran a kennel. It follows a dog named Daisy who suffers extreme abuse under Markwell’s care and eventually finds a loving home. 120 dogs were packed inside a warehouse in horrible conditions while Markwell spend the donated money on himself. The dogs lived in small crates, were not given enough food or water and never really taken care of in anyway. He would not give the dogs to anyone else to help them so they were basically left to die. Markwell has always said these dogs can’t be adopted because they are to aggressive. There are really no laws to protect these poor creatures. This book will open your eyes and make your cry about the plight of animals that have no home.

Matching Miriam is a great psychological thriller by Mya O’Malley. I had first read Mya O’Malley’s books when I read her Maggie series and was even more delighted when I started reading this when I realised that this book includes Naomi who was the main character from the Maggie series. While this book does not contain the large paranormal content of the Maggie series there is still an inkling of the paranormal in this book. I loved the main character Detective Miriam Marty. She’s feisty and takes absolutely no nonsense from anyone, so when her ex Jesse comes back into her life she’s totally thrown and struggling to deal with him. Then, when Naomi tells her that she sees great danger coming her world is totally changed. This is a great psychological thriller that I absolutely loved reading. Mya O’Malley does an amazing job of keeping the reader totally hooked on the story and on the edge of their seats, wondering what’s going to happen to Miriam next. Is she really in as much danger as Naomi thinks she is? Is she willing to let Jesse back into her life and help keep her safe? I’d definitely recommend this book. The characters are very well written and the story flows extremely well, carrying you along on a journey that you won’t want to get off.

I was horrified first reading this book as it hurt my feelings anyone cousl treat animals like this. Daisy start should not of been like this or any of the other dogs. Jill and Steve I so feel for them and everything they went through with Daisy. As an animal lover I will say you will weep it will touch your soul this book and have some unsettling feelings.

I have read numerous reads by this author, each of them is more captivating than the last, and this one is no different. I was pulled into this world from the very beginning, with its vivid descriptions it made it a very mentally visual read! This read has suspense, danger and mystery and has you hooked immediately with the storyline and the incredible characters that developed throughout the read! I hight recommend this read and can’t wait to read more from this author and see what else is to come from this series! I highly recommend this read.

The Isle of wings is a YA fantasy novel filled with mystery, magic and intrigue. The islands’ Rain Mage died and the island has been in a drought for the past year. Ever since the death of her family, Roana’s life has been difficult. Alone, with no friends, to take care of her grandmother. All she dreams about is escaping the island and restarting her life elsewhere. Scraping some money together, she attempts to smuggle her way off the island on a boat. Unfortunately she gets caught causing drastic changes in her life. For better or worse, depends on your view. Not everything is as it seems on the island.
I think the story and the characters were well developed. The world building was detailed enough that I could picture what the island looked like. I enjoyed how the relationship between Roana and Iniko progressed. My only issue with this book was that I found it hard to get into. It was slow to start. I’m glad that I stuck with it though. Once it picked up, I didn’t want to put it down.

Jordan’s Justice: A New Adult Sport Romance by T. Christensen is the second book in the Tessa and Jordan series. This is a series that does need to be read in order as it is a continuation of the story about the same characters. In my opinion reading them out of order would hinder your enjoyment of this series – and it is one that is made to be enjoyed!!! This is an amazing follow up the first book. I really enjoyed connecting with Tessa and Jordan in book one and this book just pulled me in even deeper to their lives. I was desperate to find out how things were going to play out – there was so much history between the two of them! This book is so emotional – I was on edge most of the way through it as I wasn’t convinced about the direction the author was going to take. I knew how I wanted the book to go but also knew I would be taken on a journey. The book was so well written and the whole series is absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend both these books to anyone and I thoroughly enjoyed this book, probably even more than the first!

I really enjoyed this book for young adults. It is full of adventure and magic and mystery that will keep you gripped. The author has done an amazing job at building the characters and the world in which they live.
Roana wants to leave the Isle of Wings. After an accident that kills her family she is blamed for it and see and the cause of their deaths. After some time she is fed up with bring seen this way and plans to leave her past behind. But she gets stopped in her plans when she is caught trying to steal passage.
After her capture she meets Inkio. Inkio proves to become a great companion to Roana in her quest to find defeat the sorceress controlling the Island. Will Roana and Inkio be able to free the people on the Isle of Wings? Will Roana be able to leave or will she be tied to the island and its people forever?

I give Hell Hath No Fury (Life Is Hell Book 2) by Naomi Valkyrie, 5 stars.
This is the second book in the series and what an incredible book it is! Characters we met in book one take the center stage and do such an amazing job of pulling us in. I wanted to know more about Sheridan as soon as I first met her and I am so happy that this book is about her. We learn so much more about her and find out how wonderful and unique she really is. Her interest in Millicent is unique and refreshing. While different relationships are more acceptable in supernatural books, it is so refreshing that this series is up front about them. These two women are obviously interested in each other. At the same time, the author is not preaching or trying to convert us. It is just another relationship. That makes this good book even better.
But let us not forget the story itself. Full of all emotions, you will be on the edge of your seat the whole time. It kept me guessing until the very end. The suspense is really here in the book, it’s not just about the feelings the two main characters have for each other. I really like this in books — many things happening at once.
If you are a fan of urban fantasy/supernatural romance with exceptional characters and a vivid, imaginative story, this series and book are for you. It can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend the whole series.

What a fun and entertaining story full of magic and interesting characters. The plotline is original and engaging. The characters are fully developed. This is the story of Roana. Roana is on the Island of Wings. She is there because of the death of her family. She is trying to get off of the island but there is one problem, the Sorceress has an egg and it is missing. Roana takes it upon herself to assist the Sorceress to find the egg. Iniko is assisting Roana, but has involved himself in helping Roana. Will Iniko and Roana find the egg? What is the true story with the Sorceress and the egg? I recommend this story to find out more about what is going on the Isle of Wings.

If you are an animal lover, this book will be hard to read. This story is about 124 dogs that are in a facility that is not fit for any animal. I found many emotions while reading this story. This is not a happy story, but it is one that needs to be told. This will take you through an animal rescue in this specific place. This book is not for the faint of heart. There is a hint of happiness through all the negative. I recommend reading this story to see that there is happiness in the negativity of animal cruelty.

Hell Hath No Fury (Life Is Hell Book 2) By Naomi Valkyrie
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This author never disappoints! As soon as I started reading this story I couldn’t put it down. This book has danger, suspense, humor, romance, magic, wonderful characters and so much more. I loved the characters of Millicent and Sheridan, their characters grew and learned some things about themselves and each other by the end of this story. There are also other really great characters in this book that you won’t want to miss out on. You can read this book without having read the first one but it is my suggestion that you read them in order. The author drew me right into the story so I felt like I’m right there. I highly recommend this book.

This book is a true, moving account of the rescue of 124 dogs from a deplorable animal sanctuary called OAS (Olympic Animal Sanctuary). The story details out the inhumane treatment and abuse of the animals by a cruel man who did not want to use the funds for the care of the dogs and instead kept them in very poor circumstances. They were put in small wooden crates and given very less food or water or fresh air. The scandal was exposed through firsthand accounts, protests, public interventions and newspaper articles. I found the book quite compelling and very disturbing at the same time. But these types of books promote animal welfare and make sure that these types of scandals do not repeat again anywhere in the country. Any animal lover who considers himself or herself remotely concerned with animal welfare should read this book.

I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN! I am so happy the second book is out. I was addicted to the first book and the way it ended, I knew the second book would be even juicer and it was! This book, I would not recommend reading as a standalone, there is too much drama and background that needs to be known. WOW. Jordan and his mom Christina, I have no words for their brand of idiot. I can completely understand how Jordan was swayed by his mom’s words, thinking he would never lie to her, but what about the woman he supposedly loves, wouldn’t she never lie to him either? The way Tessa is treated by almost everybody is disgusting, I cried multiple times throughout this book with my heart just breaking for her, but she stayed strong in my opinion. I had a feeling I was going to love Jordan’s dad Eric, and I did. That man is a stand up guy, I’m so happy he intervened when he did to set Jordan and Christina straight. Christina really needed to be knocked down a million pegs. I really didn’t want this book to end, but knew it needed closure and I was very pleased with how it played out. Now my only hope is the next book will be about Lindy!

Isle of Wings: A Silverglen Companion Novel by E.A. Burnett is a well written YA fantasy story that will have you interested from the word go. The author has created a story that is not only exciting to read about but is unique with strong characters as well. It is an easy story to get in to and is definitely and easy book to read – at times it almost felt like the pages were just turning themselves. This book is definitely one that is all about the characters. They have such a presence that they carry the whole story with ease. I really found myself connecting with them and could easily picture what was going on. This is a very good book and one that I throughly enjoyed. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of this genre. I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future.

I’m at a loss of words for this book. This romantic fantasy was perfectly balanced. From the summary alone I was looking forward to reading the latest from Lewandowski. And I was most definitely not disappointed. Beautiful imagery, riveting characters, and perfectly paced. It was set up beautifully to embark on a series adventure that I hope to put my eager eyes on soon. Loved it.

Wildfire (The Broken Bow Book 2) by Ashley A Quinn. This is the second book in the The Broken Bow series and it was just as good if not better than the second. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. You don’t have to read the first book to get this one but I always feel like it helps you enjoy the next book so much better. This is the story of Tara who wants to leave her past in the past and move on with her life. She wants to open her new restaurant and it is helping her to heal with some stuff. Jace who is also dealing with the loss of his family accepts a job as Chief Deputy Sheriff in Silver Gap, Colorado. He meets Tara and automatically wants to know more about her. Not really wanting a relationship but she’s made an impression on him. Tara is smitten with Jace as well. He’s handsome, nice, caring but she knows she’s in no way ready for a relationship. When Tara’s past comes to haunt her and Jace steps in to help their feelings get all mixed in. Will they be able to forget the past and move on with each other? Read Wildfire to find out!

Miriam is working on a murder case. Jesse’s unexpected return puts a spanner in her works. Miriam character I really like her she is very realistic and relatable. The story is well written and well worth the read I couldn’t put the book down once I started. It a very heart-rending book that makes me want to read more. There few unexpected moments I didn’t think would happen.
