My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Coyote Summer by Laura Koerber is a coming of age story that explores a whole range of topics. It is all centred around Ben, a privileged student who is trying to navigate some difficult situations. I thought it was interesting that I really didn’t connect with this character – or particularly like him – and yet he was exactly the right character for the story. His perspective made the story feel more real.
There were parts of the book that felt a bit disjointed. For me the supernatural element didn’t really feel necessary or particularly relevant. However the overall story was interesting and definitely held my attention. I liked how it explored the darker side of growing up how to deal with difficult and dark situations. This book is definitely one worth reading.
