Nathan and Holly were so good together. What started as enemies soon turned to friendship and more. Holly was a strong and sweet girl and utterly loyal. Nathan was her opposite in a sense but being with Holly brought out the best parts of him. The secret Nathan holds turns out to be the best thing that could happen as it brings them together. Such a sweet story that I recommend for everyone

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was beautifully written! The author did an amazing job illustrating the setting with words alone. I could see everything each of the characters saw solely because of the words the author used in their descriptions. Their characters were so fabulously written too. I adore the alternating points of view, giving me an understanding of both Mark and Paige. The friendship between Paige and Camilla was fabulous too, it was obvious that the two were very close, almost like family. If you like a happily ever after, I would definitely recommend this beautiful journey!

Death & Mirrors (All Things Dark & Deadly Book 1) by SF Benson – Review by Sarah King

Death & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book OneDeath & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book One by S.F. Benson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Evaline wants to be a great detective. When a stranger comes to her father for his aid, he declines. This peaks her interest and off she goes. Evaline finds herself on an adventure like no other. Cast into a mirror world she discovers a world that is being overrun by evil. Evaline sets off to defeat evil. Will she be able to? What challenges with she face?

This is the first book by S.F. Benson I have read. I really enjoyed the unique writing style and imagination that is present throughout the book. The story does have an Alice in Wonderland vibe. I will definitely be picking up Death & Shadows to see how the series continues. Well worth the read!

The Blood Prince by Ayla Marie – Review by Angela Hayes

The Blood PrinceThe Blood Prince by Ayla Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Yeah, I’m so grateful for my fantastical heritage,” I say, sarcasm thick in my tone. His words send my thoughts back to the story of my ancestry I used to beg my parents to tell me. I am a descendent of a people who should not exist, a race of weaponized soldiers created to kill. During the Great War nearly a century ago, there were two fighting sides: the Allied Kingdoms and the Death Dancers. As the least gruesome tales go, the Death Dancers used to drink the blood of their enemies and walked into battle with red-stained mouths, growling like animals. They were ruthless, devious soldiers whose weapons were so advanced that one Death Dancer could take down ten of the Allied soldiers. Even with their supreme strength and wealth, they still wanted more land, resources, and power. They wanted to rule the continent. So, the Death Dancers created my people, an army of prisoners of all the kingdoms genetically modified to fight. We were made to be faster, stronger, able to resist pain. But with these strengths, we were cursed with endless sleepless nights and the ability to suffer and survive the most horrible injuries. The stories don’t tell much more than that, and my parents never offered any more real insight either. Their only words were a warning to me that my people are viewed as unnatural, so the kingdoms hunt us, no matter where we try to hide.

The Blood Prince is the first book in a new trilogy, and debut novel, by Ayla Marie. This is an engrossing story, which had me hooked right from the beginning. It is a fantastic start to the trilogy- which I can’t wait to continue. As a debut novel, this surprised me as it is really well written and quite polished. And if this is what we get from a debut author, I can’t wait to follow to see what the future holds for her, and her stories.
This is an action-packed YA fantasy with danger, drama, twists, powers, agendas, and much more. This is a flight from the demons of the past. Of being hunted. A fight for survival. A fight for freedom. A mercenary who is more than he seems. And that ending…. OMG!!!
Bring on Book #2!!!! I need to know what happens now!!!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Ayla Marie!

Princess of Prias by Courtney Davis is a superb sci-fi fantasy story with so much to keep you entertained. The story is another well-woven tale from this very talented author, and is a little different from her previous book. She is on my ‘one-click, no questions asked list’ because I know that whatever she does I am going to love. And this book certainly proved that right.
With danger, hidden agendas, action, drama, romance, and humour- this journey of self discovery turns into quite the adventure for Elle. Her strange dreams have nothing on the reality that fate has in store for her. So strap yourself in for quite an intriguing ride…. you won’t be disappointed!
I wonder what Ms. Davis has in store for us next? I need my next fix STAT!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Courtney Davis!

The third book in the Mackenzie Coven series keeps on track with the previous two. It is a cute little paranormal cozy mystery with new fun characters. It’s neat to see Lexie‘s growth and that she’s really starting to come in to her own. I can’t wait to find out the background between Jonathan and Morgana you continue to read the shenanigans of Lexie, Luna, Maribel, Catherine, and now the new and wonderful Octavia.

3.8/5 stars
This book was okay. I could see the theme the author was trying to do, I just don’t think it was executed well. Every time I read “mommy” I cringed. It gave Melody a child like persona instead of an adult one. I do appreciate that the black characters didn’t have an exaggerated version of AAVE like other authors try to do. I wish this book was more realistic to the ages of the characters and the college experience.

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny Book 3) by Theresa Van Spankeren – Review by Deborah White

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny #3)Between Darkness & Light by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The first two books in the series give us the backstory of Julia, a human girl who is eventually turned into a vampire. Her story continues to evolve as she meets many friends and foes, while learning to cope with her new lifestyle. Over the last few decades, Julia has learned a lot about humanity and vampires. The things she thought she knew have been all but disproven as she has grown to learn more about herself, despite how painful that journey of discovery was for her and the ones closest to her.

Will Julia be able to fix the wrongs of her past? Will the resistance ever accept her back and help her finish the battle she agreed to take on in the first book? This was a wonderful read and I was very pleased to learn that there is a fourth book. I’m looking forward to reading it so that I’m able to continue this journey with the characters I’ve grown to think of as friends.

Pursuit into Darkness (War of Destiny, #2)Pursuit into Darkness by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second installment of the series, Pursuit into Darkness, is a great continuation of the War of Destiny Series. When we left off in the 1st book Julia had recently been changed into a vampire and had turned her childhood love interest into a vampire too. This book picks up several decades later, and has the characters living back in London when a new conflict faces them. As revealed to us in the first installment, all vampires have a special power, and it is in this book we learn what Julia’s power is. Now the question is ‘will she learn to use her powers to come out victorious?’. For the sake of preserving the element of surprise, this is a story you must read to see how our characters fare when chaos ensues.

This was a really good read! Not only was it short and quick, it was packed full of emotions and twists. I thought I had the twist figured out (and I had one of them figured out) but not all of them! It was very interesting reading this one because o haven’t read a novel quite like this one before. It was also romantic, and can be read at any age really. This book was sad but also inspiring in a way and had a gothic romance theme going. Kudos to this author and I can’t wait to read more from her in the future!

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny Book 3) by Theresa Van Spankeren – Review by Mandy Ott

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny #3)Between Darkness & Light by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In the 3rd Book of the War of Destiny series, Between Darkness and Light begins where the second book ended. Julia made a truly difficult decision at the end of Book 2, and this book flawlessly picks up where it left off. I love how this book shows how much Julia’s decision truly impacted the members of the ka-tet. The characters in this third book continue to evolve and change with, not only the story itself, but the time period in which they find themselves. Theresa Van Spankeren does an amazing job describing all of the new places traveled to. There is still so much emotion in this book, just like the other two in the series so far! I could feel the sadness, the excitement over small triumphs, the pain that is felt. I cannot wait to read more by this author!

Lost Soul (War of Destiny # 1)Lost Soul by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I started off reading this series not sure how I would feel about it, since I’ve never read any vampire stories prior to this one, but I quickly grew to realize that I enjoy the storyline and characters immensely. Lost Soul is the first book in the War of Destiny Series and it was a great read. The author established all of the characters really well and takes the time to give the background of the main character Juliana. Juliana, or as she likes to be called Julia, is a very relatable character who is very young when she experiences many life altering events. Although she has been through a significant amount of harsh events she is still a very humble and innocent young lady, who has more spunk and desire to live than most. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment of the series to see how her story progresses.

I took a chance with this book and I’m glad that I did. It had adventure, mysticism, bandits just to name a few. Leo and his siblings are on the run living in poverty, but Leo has made a name for himself, “The Blood Prince”. This has made some issues for the siblings, but when Leo finds out that his brother has the same power all bets are off and out the door. I loved reading this book although it was a little slow in the beginning but I’m glad I stuck with it. This author writes wonderfully creating this new story for all of us to see and read. I can’t wait to see what this author does with their other books!

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny #3)Between Darkness & Light by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s been five years since Julia made a horrible choice and betrayed those she loved the most. They aren’t getting over it anytime too soon it seems but there are Hunters on the prowl and some of Valentino’s minions moving in on them. If this group can’t get it together, the ka-tet will fall apart and they will all lose their lives!!

Julia can’t seem to apologize enough for what she has done. It’s not until a young human comes and encourages Julia to do the hard things to see if she can get back in the good graces of her group. Will they accept her back? What about all these nighttime revelations she’s having? These Hunters….they are haunting Julia too. So many questions and not a lot of time for answers!

I enjoyed this book and read it fairly quickly. This one contains a lot of action, more so than the first two books in this series. We learn more about Matthew’s background, as well as Samuel’s. I’m really hoping to learn more about Mary Anne’s abilities….she’s got something very special! I’m looking forward to the next book in this series!

Pursuit into Darkness (War of Destiny, #2)Pursuit into Darkness by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It’s been 70 years since Samuel and Julia met. 70 years since Julia’s life and destiny changed for eternity. She’s now part of the Resistance and she’s building up her strength, honing her skills and abilities through training, and she’s gearing up to take on the Vampire King. She’s a part of the ka-tet and together they can work to strengthen each other, communicate, and so much more. Things are becoming more heated and there is a lot of unrest happening around them. Julia will also get a fledgling of her own that she’s trying to train while still learning herself how to live in this paranormal universe.

I enjoyed the continuation of this story but there were a few parts of it that I felt dragged along. While this book can be read as a stand-alone, I would highly recommend reading in order to keep all the characters straight. It would also be very beneficial to know Julia’s back story prior to reading this one.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second book in the series, Castor’s Kiss is easy to get hooked into. I love how Mia was working through a lot of emotions from the start and at the same time trying to keep De’ara alive and give her hope. It make it so easy to want to continue reading. The scene where Castor firsts spots Mia and Mia finally spots him was magic! I could understand Mia not trusting Castor right away with all the torture and fighting she needed to do to keep alive. The author did a great job of detailing each species and their differences while keeping the story moving along. I really enjoy reading sci-fi books and this one didn’t disappoint.

Imagine you live back in the 1500’s and your lifestyle is pretty lavish. Julia is a young, 15 year old girl, who is “living the life” of a girl back then. She’s in love with her best friend, Adam, but he’s only the son of the household servant. He has no formality about him in the way that Julia’s parents expect. One day, Julia’s dad informs her that she is to marry Gregory. Julia is crushed! Gregory is not the kindhearted man that one would expect in a husband. He’s actually quite the contrary! During a very difficult time in Julia’s life, she is rescued by a boy named Samuel. Her life will change…but is it really for the better?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has some very deep, dark moments within it that will make you wish you could reach through the book and exact some revenge yourself. It also have some very moving moments. This is just the beginning of Julia’s story with much more to come!

This book was a very charming story. It also had an educational aspect to it! I love when stories I read are both educational but also cute. It makes me want to recommend them to others. It also keeps the children engaged in the story. I loved that it was short enough to keep kids’ attention but also a story people would not mind reading again! The illustrations were beautiful. Would definitely recommend to those who have kids and are looking for a new educational, inspiring story.

This is the first book that I have read from this author and let me tell you something I was not disappointed. I fell is love with this book, I had to finish the entire book in my sitting. It had me sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time. I recommend this book to everyone and anyone , you will not be disappointed. I hope and pray y’all fall in love with this book just as I had. Both the plot and characters were wonderfully written: it was like I was standing next to them experiencing everything they were in the moments. Now here’s a little bit about the book:
A mercenary with death following his every step…
Leo has been evading Lady Death’s grip his entire life. First, fighting in the merciless Tominese arenas, and then becoming the most feared mercenary in the country. The unnatural powers that have made him into a ruthless killer are the same that prohibit his very existence under the royal laws of Tominay. Though they will always be hunted, he protects his brothers and sister with his every breath because allowing death to take them away has never been an option.
Now they must run, or face their worst nightmares…
When Leo’s employer finds out his younger brother holds the same power that made him into an invaluable weapon, they must make a long-awaited decision: to stay and risk slaughter, or to flee their home in search of a new life.
Will they survive the journey, or fall fighting for their freedom?
It’s a battle for survival as the siblings chase the land of their people in the hopes of a better future. Though they try to outrun it, the demons of the past never cease to haunt them, and the trials of the future hold more terror than can be imagined. But will the journey truly lead to the salvation they crave, or walk them straight to the bloody end they fear?
I’m excited to see and read more of this authors books in the future.
