My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ashes of Sin and Stardust (AnchorX) by Lindsay Murray is a story of two realistic characters that are traumatized and trying to make their way in the world. Be aware there are some things that could be considered as triggers such as: past abuse, mental illness, depression, trauma, and some dark/heartbreaking moments. That being said this is an intriguing read that will leave you still thinking about it for days later.

I absolutely loved that I got to see the characters in depth and raw even, it really helped me to connect to them and the story. The way Alice learned to trust and heal from her past traumas was really inspiring. This book had me laughing and crying both, which is quite an accomplishment for an author to be able to evoke such emotions in the reader. Alice and Reuben went through so much in this book, from Reuben trying to help Alice overcome her problems and learn to trust him, to Reuban learning that everything doesn’t always fit in a neat little box.

This was a darker story, that even the author gives warnings about. If you are okay with the trigger warnings and super steamy BDSM then this is an intriguing read. To me it was a bit long and a bit steamier than I’m used to, but all-in-all it is a good read for those that like the dark BDSM genre. So although I’m not a fan of such a dark/steamy stories I still enjoyed Alice’s journey of overcoming one’s past traumas and dealing with mental illness. This is definitely worth the read, and I’m glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to give it a try.
