My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So The Summer I Went Crazy is not something I typically read. It was a one off to try something different. That different had me wondering for a while about what I was reading. However, it wasn’t bad, and it was well written. The author gave the reader an interesting take on coping with one’s guilt while finding oneself at the same time. The guilt in question could be a trigger from some so just be mindful.
Ben was witness to something that he wishes to forget. And knowing that just makes him feel guilty. It also makes him realize that those around him aren’t really in his corner. He spends his summer finding himself with the help of Phoebe. Adventures he never thought he would take part in, but they were the exact adventures he needed. He’s from an upper class neighborhood she’s from quote on quote the other side of the tracks, What could they really have in common? Reality more than one could think. Plus she’s genuine which he likes about her vs those he grew up with, they were all the same, no diversity.
The path of self discovery for Ben is one I feel I’m going to have to reread. I feel like I missed a lot because my mind was trying too hard to figure what one thing had to do with another. Once I did I know I missed a lot. What I can say is, give it a chance. And if you find yourself in the same place I am, read it again because it might surprise you.
