Afflicted Love (Rhythm & Heart Series) by Autumn Sand – Review by Beverly Finnie

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved Afflicted Love, however it wasn’t an easy book to read. I don’t mean that in a written sence but an emotional one. The amount of turmoil the two main characters go through is heartbreaking. On top of ending on a cliffhanger, the way it did. I want the next book now. I need to know what happens. I need to know what decisions are made. And I don’t want to wait.
Kyle and Lyle are both broken souls. They are also two halves to a whole. The only problem is Lyle is so broken he can’t accept that truth. He knows he can’t live without Kyle but he can’t give him 100% either. Which leaves the book at an impasse. It’s a constant back and forth, just destroying the emotions of the characters. Possibly the reader as well.
This MM romance fictionalized some of the struggles men go through when coming to terms with who they are. Some embrace it, while others hide due to fear, judgment, and rejection of others. Only once one knows their true self can they truly embrace and not fear who they truly are.
Which is exactly the path Lyle refuses to follow, not realizing he’s destroying Kyle mind, body, and soul in the process.
Go into this book with an open mind, for that might be the only way you come out not feeling emotionally drained. It’s beautiful in its own way but draining. Me, well I’m going to sit back and wait for the next book to come out.
