I have neutral feelings towards this book. The storyline itself was decent, but the writing style is where I struggled. A lot of it seemed almost forced. I don’t typically go for dystopian sci-fi, but thought I’d branch out and try this one because it really did appeal to me.

The story is one of which mystery and the family drama is at the forefront, with the sci-fi background. At one point, the POV changes between Mouse and Meph, who is her older brother. One of the hardest parts for me was that I had a hard time mentally placing the dystopian world, as well as understanding the characters mindsets during their POVs. A lot of it read as if they were entitled and only wanted to do what they wanted, when they wanted.

Other than that, characters were well written. You get a really good sense of who they are and what their flaws are. The storyline was unlike one I’ve read before, which is why I struggled with only feeling “meh” about this one. I desperately wanted to love it instead of liking it.

Overall, I think someone who loves sci-fi dystopian novels will love this one a lot more than I did.
