Stephanie is part of the Renaissance Society and had been after Heather to go for a quite a while. Heather finally has a weekend off and decides she is ready to take the plunge. She sets out to the site on directions that Stephanie gives her which are vague at best. She comes upon a tavern and decides to ask directions so that she doesn’t further get lost, especially since it will be dark soon. She hears an owl and feels as though it is trying to speak to her but she can’t understand what it’s saying. As Heather is leaving with directions that are clearer, she is stopped by a strange man who gives her the creeps. After several tense minutes the barman saves her from having any further interaction with the gentleman and she gets on her way. Upon arrival she gets herself checked in and makes her way toward the dining hall but needs to make a pitstop at the bathroom. Tiki torches light the way but as she gets closer to her destination and the woods there is no light. She trips and nearly falls into a big hole when she is saved by Sir Roland. Heather, ever grateful, thanks him and allows him to escort her to the dining hall after she has done her business. It turns out that hole she almost fell into was made by rat men. According to what had been learned about these rat men, they track people by scent and Heather has been marked. Will Sir Roland be able to keep her safe? While I did enjoy the book and it was a quick read I was a bit irritated with Heather. She was told more than once that she would need an escort especially at night but she still went off on her own and ended up nearly being kidnapped at least twice. Overall though it was enjoyable.
