Lake of Flowers is the fifth in the Lord Hani series. It is the first novel I have read by this author and can be read as a standalone. NL Holmes has done an excellent job of setting the story in ancient Egypt, I could feel the heat and environment that the characters were experiencing. I struggled a little with the general conversation used by characters and felt that it perhaps didn’t fit the time. Otherwise, the novel is very well written and researched. I also intend to read more of this series as it now has me intrigued!

Remember My Name (Remember My Name Series Book 1) by Laurencia Hoffman – Review by Barbara Stegall July 2021 I found this book very emotional. Without giving any spoilers I just wanted to yell at Shane to trust his friends!!!!!!! It hurt my heart reading all that Shane has gone through. You find Shane is between a rock and a hard place. This book has a cliff hanger at the end which I did not like at all!!!!! What happens next????

Though a short book of short stories, it will make a large impact on your heart. Every story makes an impact and leaves a message. You will have to figure out that message. I did find a tear rolling down my cheek at times because it was very heart warming and sad at times also. Quick read and highly recommend.

This book is full of witches and magic. Cassie is need of help. She doesn’t want to be found so she casts a spell asking the Guardian for help. Magic has a price and the Guardian helps in the most unexpected way. They say everything happens for a reason. Fate brings Cassie and Nick together. The chemistry is instant and their love sparks an intense passion. There is an evil lurking in Willow Creek and it’s set on destroying everything and everyone. Can they survive it?
This is a good introduction to the series. The author presents the characters for you to realize that you will fall in love with them. Cassie is a wonderful, caring person with a strength of character that Nick needs. She will help him grow and gain confidence. Most of the action happens at the end of the book and the author throws in a few surprises. The book doesn’t fully end on a cliffhanger but it leaves you wanting more.

Sex on Fire: A Quickie Read is book one in the Naughty Neighbour series by Ashley Bostock. This story was short, stylish and intoxicating. A friends to lovers quick read that was attention grabbing and totally satisfying. The characters were entertaining, the chemistry sizzling, and the innocence of the leading lady was endearing and and equally frustrating. Their adventure had highs and lows and in betweens. A quick romance that was to the point and easy to read. 4 stars.

The story was a cute, very quick read. While there’s sex it’s not super explicit in its detail, which I liked in this case. I do wish the story was a little bit longer in order to flesh out some of the storyline, as I felt there was an abruptly ended chapter and there were some quick scene change.
I enjoyed the banter and push and pull between Poppy and Turner. I really liked that we get to read about a FMC who is nerdy, quirky, and a bit shy around strangers; you don’t get that often in an adult FMC.
Summary: Sex on fire is about two neighbors, Poppy and Turner, who desire the other but are hesitant to act on it, until one of them isn’t.
After finally succumbing to the mutual desire between them Turner knows that “neighbors with benefits” simply won’t be enough. Can he win the awkward, nerdy girl who’s running around in his head, or will her social awkwardness burn them before they really begin?

A fun college age romance. This book, and Brandon Setter (the Male Main Character), is quirky, fun loving, and sexy. A slight slow burn romance, with Casey (the Female MC) either disliking or being indifferent toward Setter until about 30%, but once the sparks fly, oh do they.
Both Setter and Casey are still growing into who they are. Setter has his future planned out for him, so in the meantime he’s trying to enjoy life to the fullest. Casey is still dealing with the loss of her best friend from high school, pulling away from everyone but her dad, and focusing on her schoolwork, until Setter literally stops in on her in the library and thereafter brings her back to life. But it’s not all fun and games, with both outside forces and Casey and Setter themselves threatening to pull them apart.
I enjoyed the additional background mystery storyline and the drama along the way to finding out “whodunnit.” I liked that Setter and Casey’s relationship, or lack thereof, wasn’t completely the sole focus of the novel. I also enjoyed reading how both Casey and Setter grew into more of an adult with the help of the other. The romance between them is sweet and pure.
This book is just one in a series written by many authors, but I’m interested in searching out the rest to read about what previously happened to side characters and what happens in those to come.

Witches and Vampires have been at it forever and I thought that I have read all there is to this trope but then Tricia Copeland comes out of nowhere and surprises me with this gem of a series. Kingdom of war is the 4th book in the series and I do recommend that you start this series from the beginning. This is Hunter’s story and Tricia took us on an epic adventure with Hunter as he lives up to his vow of protecting the witch lines. The character development is great and the storyline is well thought out. There was one or two places where I got a bit confused but it didn’t take away from the story. The narrator also did a great job (not the voice I would fit with Hunter but still he did an amazing job)

Book two in Remember My Name series was just as good as the first one. This book follows the story of Wren who was born an empath. Wren’s past is tragic and I kept hoping for him to find happiness as I turned the pages. The twists and turns in this book kept me hooked and I was determined not to put this book down until it was finished. When Wren found his husband I was happy for him, but then he becomes a prime suspect when the love of his life is found murdered. Who is the culprit? Will Wren be able to find justice for his love before there is another victim? I have enjoyed this series so far and I hope there are more to come.

A Cold day in Hell is the fifth book in the Life is Hell series by Naomi Valkyrie. This is a captivating fantasy with angels, shifters, demons, pixie, imp, other supernatural beings, humour, banter, family, drama, mystery, danger, f/f romance, chemistry, an enemies-to-lovers element, magic, tension, suspense, secrets, action, sacrifice, and lots more. This is Hadassah (Haddie) and Jezebel’s story- Haddie is an angel on suspended duty for miss using her powers and has been sent to Earth on probation. She isn’t happy about it- all she wants to do is serve her time and get back to heaven. But things take a bit of a complicated turn when Haddie feels obliged to help one of her brother’s friends. Jezebel is a bit of a recluse, a shifter who has been trying to hide from her past. She knows that eventually it will catch up with her and she will have no choice but to run again. She just didn’t expect it to be now, or to have to go on the run with a prickly angel by her side. Jezebel has been quite the mysterious character throughout the series, We knew she was a shifter, but little else. This book really allows us to get to know her, and my heart broke finding out everything she had been through. She and Haddie had a bit of rocky start- but the chemistry was there all along. They really were perfect for each other. After meeting Haddie previously, I wasn’t sure I would like her as she had been quite abrasive. But following along on the story and finding out more about her, I understand why she is prickly and discovered there is more to her than first meets the eye- and I ended up loving her. As expected, Ms. Valkyrie created superb tension and suspense throughout her story, balanced beautifully with some tender, emotive, and heartwarming moments. I love that even though each book concentrates on one particular ‘couple’- there is also a much bigger picture being painted and a secondary, subplot/bridging storyline woven through the series that amps up the danger and tension- and has me itching for more. Having said that I really recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one- as knowing what happens previously will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book. I know I keep saying this, but I really do adore this series so very much!!! It’s wonderfully original, with intriguing storylines featuring quirky and endearing characters who have firmly embedded themselves into my heart, and I can’t get enough. Happy Reading!

Least Likely Suspect: Revenge by Cooper McKenzie is quite a gripping story that made me think about how far I would go to get justice for my child. Well, our MC Samantha is put in exactly that position when her son is so badly beaten that he succumbs to his injuries. Samantha is certain she knows who is responsible for his death- but proving it is where the problem lies. When one of her son’s childhood friends offers to help- things take a really interesting turn. Looking forward to more from Cooper McKenzie! Happy Reading!

Caim is the fourth book in the Antipodes series by T.S Simons. As with the rest of the books in the series, it is a fantastic post-apocalyptic, dystopian story with some sci-fi elements, action, adventure, romance, drama, discovery, friendships, bonds, loyalty, trauma, anxiety, trials, surprising developments, twists, tension, mystery, emotion, and much more. Quite a lot has happened since we started back in book one and our characters have been through quite a lot. The safety and happiness they found will be disrupted as shocking news means leaving to search for answers. Love and friendships are on the line- loyalties are tested, and shocking discoveries are made. The series gets better and better, with each new instalment, and for me, this is the most emotionally charged story of the series, so far. I still think this series would make great television viewing. I can really see it coming to life on the small screen. OMG- can’t wait to dive into ‘Sessrumnir’ (Book #5)!!!

I just love all the books in this series. In this 4th installment, we pick up 7 or 8 years on from Ouroboros, and we see things through Freyja’s eyes. When some nighttime visitors arrive with unexpected news, Freyja is compelled to get back on the open sea to find the answers to her questions. Lots of action ensues, and this book had me hooked from the beginning. I love the relationship between Cam and Freyja, their individual characters are great and fleshed out so well. This is a great dystopian fantasy, and I am sincerely hoping this won’t be the last for these characters, or this authour!

Caim is the 4th book in the Antipodes series by T.S. Simons. I read the last three books of this four book series, and it just got better and better. I had a hard time putting this book down. While the other books tell the story from multiple perspectives but mostly from Cam’s, this story is mostly told from the point of Freyja. We are several years past book three, and Freyja and Cam have had two more kids. This book is full of their struggle with Clava as well as with Angus. I was surprised at the turn their story took but loved reading it. I highly recommend reading this series and from the beginning!

Witty and sweet This was so much fun! I loved the banter between Chelsea and Tom. There were many laugh-out-loud moments as the author captured each moment so realistically. The storyline, romance and steam were nicely balanced and who doesn’t need a friend like Nadia – she’s brilliant. If you like friends to lovers don’t miss this one. I will be checking out more from this author.

Lake of Flowers in the fifth book in The Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L Holmes. To say I was super excited about this book is a understatement. I’m a huge historical fan and this one is set in ancient Egypt and is packed with historical details which I find very intriguing. I highly recommend reading this series in order if you haven’t already started. It’s a great series and we get to follow Hani on all his adventures. This one is no different than the others as you’ll be pulled in from the beginning and wont want to stop till you’ve finished. Get ready to follow along with Lord Hani as he takes us on yet another adventure to solve a mystery , there are thefts happening at the Kings house. Find out what happens next as Hani finds himself caught up in the middle of secrets. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

This is the 2nd book in this series, and very enjoyable and I love YA genre books. I had to keep in mind that this is high school teens and their stories. This book is about High School crushes, loves, drama and betrayal all wrapped up in one. Hadley finally is happy in a new school and has a boyfriend, Nick. Hadley is not totally secure on her looks or friendships and Nick is very sweet guy….but they have such a great relationship and also friendship building in this story. There is heartbreaking betrayal with Nick and one of Hadley’s friends, Simone. Will Hadley and Nick’s relationship survive on an ultimate betrayal?

Competing with the Star (Star Series Book 2) by Krysten Lindsay Hager was a great continuation of the Star series. Hadley is navigating new ground as she deals with ongoing teenage drama. Krysten Hager does a great job describing the feelings and development that you feel completely invested in. Nothing feels too over the top and fabricated. The flow and plot feel genuine.

I absolutely loved this book. It is the first time I have read a book from author K. G. Fletcher. It was amazing. I was holding my breath and my heart stopped I’m sure as I continued reading. The reuniting of Katie and Clay at their high school reunion has sparks flying. The characters are so likeable and you want everything to work out for them. They live 4 hours apart. Will the long distance and their busy careers make or break them. I couldn’t wait to find out. A great book to cuddle up in a comfy chair on the beach or inside by the fire. I’ll say it again, I loved, loved this book.

Next Door to a Star (The Star Series) by Krysten Lindsay Hager was such an intense read. I felt teleported back to high school, the constant struggle to make friends, and not be an outcast came to life while reading. Hadley is so well written I related so much to her. It felt so rewarding to see her character grow and develop. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more!

I really enjoyed this book! It continues following the life that Cam and Freyja have built from her POV. There are plot twists that you don’t expect, and it keeps you reading to find out how it all ends. Just when you think The Collective can’t get any worse… they do, and you want them all to burn.
This series makes you think about your life and evaluate what is really important. Truly. Love this series! You FEEL the heartache and the triumphs of the characters to your core.

Discovering new to me authors is always such a nice treat!! I just love the way this author writes too! Captured by the Viscount was such a GREAT read. To say I enjoyed it is a mild statement because I absolutely loved it and was glued to its pages until the VERY END! I was drawn into the scene and time written for me to imagine. I was very captivated by the mystery to be solved as well. The unfolding events and mystery are very entertaining and keep you reading because well you just need to know what’s going to happen next! Remember His Name is the second novel in the series and it’s just as great as the first novel. Wren is an empath that has suffered all his life. When he gets the chance to save another person, he takes it. This novel can be read as a stand-alone but I think its better if the novels are read in order. The details that go into the characters are just amazing. It feels like you know them because of how well they are developed. Like the first novel, this novel made me cry. It is a dark romance thriller. It can cause triggers for certain people. I would rate it more than 5 stars if I could.

Remember My Name (Remember My Name Series Book 1) by Laurencia Hoffman is an amazing novel. It has everything one would want in a romance novel but with a twist. Its full of mystery and intrigue. I was crying reading this novel, it pulled that much on my heart amd emotions. Shane is a wonderful character that someone could relate to when it comes to love. This novel isn’t for the faint of heart because it could trigger someone. Hoffman has a wonderful talent and mind. She has wrote about love and tragedy in the same novel. Even though I cried, I can’t wait to read the next novel in the series.

Pauline Gruber’s The Girl and the Raven is a YA Paranormal Romance. It has demons, witches, gargoyles, and ravens. The story is original, and I did find it a little slow at times but there were plot twists that had me guessing and some I figured out but some I did not. There is a lot of different layers going on but ultimately there is a fight for good and evil. With secrets and lies, magic and a wealth of unusual. YA’s will love this book.

Remember My Name was nothing like what I was expecting, and I am not disappointed. I have not read anything by Laurencia Hoffman before, but will be starting the second book in this series ASAP. This book kept me hooked the entire time, and left me screaming at the end. The book follows Shane’s life, and his complicated love for Callan. At first I was confused when it kept jumping back in forth in time, talking about Shane and Jake, and Shane and Callan, but it quickly all came together. I love that the mystery was kept throughout, and until the end of the story. The cliff hanging ending has me pissed off, lol. The 2nd book does not sound like it continues the story, but I am really hoping it does. I need answers, now! I do caution the readers, this book focuses around a gay couple, and has multiple mentions and images of abuse (self inflicted and otherwise). This could be a trigger for some readers, and believe it deserves to be mentioned.

This book took me a while to finish for various reasons.
It is mostly m/m. However there are no explicit scenes. It’s kind of like old movies the sex scenes fade to black.
I should also mention there are some triggers in this one.
I enjoyed being able to read from the perspective of others’ struggles of being different. And I also enjoyed the sentimental parts of the story as well.
With that being said I found that the main character’s relationship with all the others were a bit exhausting because of the constant back and forth.
Overall I think we might find out more in the next book. The story definitely ends on a cliffhanger.
