Across From You by Amabel Daniels – Review by Ashleigh Whitwell

Across From YouAcross From You by Amabel Daniels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Across From You is a fun, romantic standalone novel. Written in alternating points-of-view, we follow Lexi and Jack after they meet during a compromising situation. In your typical tale of miscommunication, hilarity ensues from the very beginning despite Lexi’s obvious embarrassment at recent life events. This book is relatable, funny and just all-around loveable. A must read for any contemporary romance fans!

Lexi Regan is not having much luck. Having been the victim of a horrendous romantic blunder, the last she wants to think about is men. What happens next? She’s faced, literally, with a naked, hot, sexy man during a one-off art class she attends with her best friend. Cue hilarious flirting. I was laughing out loud at Lexi’s mixture of embarrassment and intrigue, which only became more hilarious when we found out her surprising connection to the mystery model. The author timed this miscommunication perfectly, not dragging it on too long so that I got both bored and annoyed. One of my biggest issues with romance reads is when this type of scenario is dragged out for over half of the book; just get on with it! We didn’t have too long to wait until Jack O’Connor is revealed to Lexi which just made things all the more interesting!

Jack is a fantastic male lead. While he has some of the stereotypical traits (a sexy man in uniform is always a win for me), in many ways he isn’t so typical. This made him a really complex character, which is always fun to read. The connection him and Lexi have is both instant and deep, and only strengthens over the course of the book. They had their ups and downs and there were some seriously emotional moments, which rounded off the book perfectly.

Overall, Across From You hits the romance-crave so many of us have. It is not only a really good story, but also packed full of wonderful characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and cannot wait to try more of the author’s work. This will definitely be on my recommendation list!

Across from you by Amabel Daniels a five-star read that will bring a smile to your face. This was a fun and honest and Lexi will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Lexi has a story that follows a journey and as you read you get to see her on that journey and I couldn’t help but feel like a cheerleader at times as I was rooting for her, there was just something about her. Jack was a little different, he had his own story and what I would give to have him in a life drawing class, or just generally naked, the description was that good. I can’t wait to read more from this author, she has a great way of writing that was funny and romantic and left me with that creepy grin on your face while reading, and snorting tea something that shows true funny in my book.

Across From You is a decadent little novel by Amabel Daniels. My first dabble with this author, and it is with delight that I say it was well worth it. It kept me riveted for hours and totally enthralled. Getting to know the way this author writes and the colourfully wacky characters was truly enchanting

Lexi is a workaholic mess of a woman who had me in stitches. She was so quirky and hilarious, I instantly bonded with her. She was a breath of fresh and unique air. She was one of a kind and a privilege to learn about. Jack was a little more reserved and less laid back, but still a pleasure to know. He and Lexi fell slowly and sweetly, and life as they knew it became a memory, and in its place was excitement, mystery and discovering common desires and dreams.

Across From You was an extremely masterful tale that was filled with emotional thrills and adventure. 5 stars.

Across From You by Amabel Daniels is a cute and hilarious, fun and ridiculous romantic comedy that will have you laughing at the crazy. It did however take me a little bit to get really invested in the story and the characters but once I was, it was funny and entertaining and filled with crazy misadventures and dramas. The premise is different to other stories and that held half the fun. A viral breakup, an art class, a bridezilla, a wedding planner and sorority girls from hell. These are all the ingredients that once pulled together make for one fun adventure.

Across From You by Amabel Daniels is a charming romantic comedy about two people who, despite being determinedly not looking for relationships, find their paths crossing. It’s a story of love and friendship, and is an entertaining and enjoyable read.
Lexi has just been dumped rather dramatically and publicly on social media when the story begins. After such brutal treatment from a man she trusted, she’s wary of getting into anything anytime soon. That doesn’t stop her from rather enjoying the nude model at an art class her best friend has dragged her along to! Lexi is a determined and loveable character, fighting to stay positive for her cousin Bev’s wedding in spite of everything. And Jack – nude model and, conveniently, a friend of Bev’s, is a gentle and warm character.
The story alternates between Lexi and Jack’s perspective each chapter. This works well, as we see them falling in love from both angles. It also lets us see the misunderstandings and assumptions they are making about each other, and get a sense for why they do and say what they do. Both of them are hurting from past relationships, and cautious about trusting someone else.
The drama of Bev’s wedding provides a great backdrop for the story. As well as an excuse for the characters to be together, it pits them against common enemies (tactless bridesmaids, a tyrannical wedding coordinator) and allows for an exploration of love at different stages.
For me, this is a five star read. I really enjoyed it, and was quickly drawn in by the loveable characters and entertaining scenarios. If you’re after something fun and positive, I’d recommend this. I imagine it would be particularly enjoyable to anyone familiar with the stresses of a wedding day!

This is a cute story about a chance meeting. I really liked Lexi and Jack. Both had great senses of humor. I loved how they met and the second meeting as well. I liked how they were both basically “regular” people. Not glamorous jobs or super rich. There was many things I liked about Lexi. How she is honest, faithful and has a face full of thoughts. She could be anyone. Jack wasn’t as rigid as I would expect being a state trooper. I loved his attitude and that once he decided to go for it he was “all” in. These two seemed “real” in the respect of their jobs and insecurities on their feelings with each other.

My only issue is there is a lot of thinking and rehashing going on in their noggins. Some is okay in my book but repetitive or too much is not my cup of tea. This isn’t my first book by this author. I enjoy her characters and writings style. So I will always look forward to the next book from her.

This is my 3rd book by this author and I absolutely loved it…Seems I fall in love with all of her books, which is why she is definitely on my must read list.

This story had me laughing right from the start and also thinking about where this world is today and how true the circumstance that Lexi finds herself in is.

Lexi attends an art class that was supposed to be all relaxing with her best friend, problem was there was no relaxing during this art class and what happens sets the stage for the rest of the story.

If I had one small problem with this story it would be that I wish it had moved past the wedding sooner than it did, but in saying that I still completely enjoyed every single moment in this book. I laughed, and I definitely got angry a couple times but the end and how the end came to be was awesome…

“You’re that girl who replaced the carrot guy”

That cracked me up and I can not wait to pick up my next read by this author, if you haven’t read any of Miss Daniels books yet, this would be a fantastic place to start.

Loved It!!

I do believe that I am still rolling with laughter from this book. Just sitting here reminiscing my time with the characters as I type this review has me laughing all over again. I loved this rom-com from Amabel Daniels. I have read books from her before, but I have to say this is a strong point for her!

From the get-go things are off to a funny start for Lexi Regan. After a viral and not so pretty breakup she finds herself in another awkward situation when she ends up in an art class with her bestie. She thought it was supposed to be a sip wine and paint a pic by number type thing. She had no idea it was a live model in a stuffy art room situation. She really didn’t expect it to be a handsome guy that had eyes for her either. The big twist comes when the two are thrust together for a weekend at her cousins wedding. Just imagine all the shenanigans! Strap in for one hilarious story.

Across From You is a hilarious romantic comedy from Amabel Daniels. This book had me laughing from the very first page all the way to the last. Amabel Daniels is a new author to me and after reading this book, I’ll be sure to read more of her work.
Manager of a stuffed toy store, Lexi Regan has sworn off men having just been dumped very publicly on Facebook. Her very public dumping has gone viral and she’s feeling humiliated. Add to this her bridezilla cousin Bev’s upcoming wedding, she’s having a rubbish time. Having been dragged by her friend to an art class, she can’t stop fantasizing about the nude male model they had to draw.
Jack O’Connell, work partner of Bev, had lost a bet at Bev’s fiance’s stag night and as a result had to do a stint as a nude model at an art class. While modelling he couldn’t keep his eye off the gorgeous brunette who was drawing him.
It’s a small world as Lexi and Jack find out as he’s the groomsman who is partnering bridesmaid Lexi at the wedding.
This is a story that proves that first impressions can often be very far from the truth. We find this out in a hilarious way as Jack and Lexi stumble from one mishap to another. I loved both of these characters. Lexi is hilarious. You can’t help but be intrigued as to what is going to come out of her mouth next. Jack is an absolute sweetheart and nothing like the player that Bev has made him out to be.
So if you are looking for a great rom com, I’d definitely recommend that you give ‘Across From You’ a go.

Amabel Daniels’ Across From You is a fun to read romantic comedy. Start to finish, this was a great book to read and the laughs keep coming. The story line was amusing and the characters out right hilarious. Did I mention funny? I could see these events play out in every day life, that would seriously be my luck. To read it on these pages, it was well written and the author found just the right mixture of comedy to add with the rest of the story to not make it too outlandish and far-fetched. The tension between Jack and Lexi can be felt. I enjoyed the tug and pull of the characters as their relationship. Amabel Daniels is a talented author that can deliver.

Across From You is a hilarious romantic comedy by Amabel Daniels. It has humour, misadventures, funny banter and antics, a sprinkle of drama, and a lot of fun.
Ms. Daniels is on my ‘must read author’s list’. So, when I saw this book, I didn’t hesitate, grabbed myself a copy and dove right in. Compared to her other books that I’ve read, this one seemed a little slower to get going, but then the pace picked up a few chapters in and the story took off from there and flowed much better. From that moment on, I was along for the ride, laughing out loud at what was happening. I really enjoyed getting to know these wonderful characters, as Ms. Daniels creates interesting and well-developed individuals that are so easy to like.
Lexi Regan swore off men after getting dumped via social media and having the post go viral. She doesn’t like being in that kind of spotlight and is determined to take a break from the dating scene. When her best friend Carly wants to drag her out to an art class, Lexi really couldn’t be bothered, but goes anyway just to shut her up. Then she discovers that it’s a ‘life drawing’ class with a live model. She wasn’t expecting that, let along the hunky model who walks in and takes a pose. She can feel his eyes on her constantly and sees the smirk that he tries to hide. That just confirms it that men are all blockheads!
Just when she thinks the worst may be behind her, she finds on the weekend after her art class, that Mr. Hunky Model is also part of the bridal party in her cousins wedding. And what happens next makes for quite a hilarious romp.
An entertaining and light-hearted read.

Thank you, Ms. Daniels!

I really loved this book! It was one of those stories that you can’t help but smile and laugh your whole way through it and I definitely couldn’t put it down. I’ve read a few books by this author now and I really enjoy her writing style, she is able to adapt it well for whatever genre she is writing and I always find her books engaging.
I adored Lexi! She was a brilliant character, one you know if she were real you would totally want to be friends with her. I really felt for her at times but I think what happened to her made her a stronger person, she was definitely sworn off men – well until Jack came along that is and to be fair I think he could make anybody rethink their stance on men!! I thought that they had a great chemistry and I loved the interactions between them, there were definitely some funny moments!
Across From You is probably one of the best rom-com stories that I have read this year and I know that anyone who reads it will not be disappointed!
A fantastic 5 star read and I absolutely look forward to reading more from Amabel Daniels again in the near future.

This is one of those stories that I started highlighting funny lines and then realized I would be highlighting a lot so I just sat back and enjoyed the story.

Here are a few of my faves:

“Being on time had always been an unreachable talent, like completing Sudoku puzzles or avoiding chiropractic aid after yoga.”
“If functioning like Inspector Gadget was an Olympic sport, I’d nab gold – if I made it on time to the event, of course.”
“Premenopausal Elsa gifting us cold flashes instead of hot.”

Funny stuff.

This book is absolutely a rom-com full of lively banter, great friendships and romantic gestures. The lead female is definitely someone I would like to be friends with. She has quick wit, loyalty, and even though she’s late for everything else – she has an amazing work ethic. Then there is Jack. A hot cop who isn’t going to settle for a random hookup. He has values and trusts his instincts.

I really enjoyed this quick and easy romance and was able to read it cover to cover in a few hours. If you are looking for something to escape into, I absolutely recommend ACROSS FROM YOU!

I loved this book! This author had me pulled right into the story from the beginning. It is a fast paced story that I read in one sitting. The characters, Lexi and Jack made me laugh but also felt compassion for Lexi. She had a bad break up on social media then to make things worse the model in her art class is the same man standing across from her at her cousin’s wedding. When she meets Jack again in an even more unexpected place it is maybe time to explore their chemistry a little more.

The story Across From You by Amabel Daniels is a romantic comedy. It is a story that had me hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put down until I had read the final page. It has me with a smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart when reading about Lexi Regan and Jack O’Connor. They are two characters that are a pleasure to read about. Lexi is a woman who has been embarrassed and hurt by a public post that has gained her unwanted attention. She has sworn off men as she tries to guard her heart against further pain. Then she meets Jack. Jack is a guy that is looking for love. He finds that since he met Lexi that he can’t stop thinking about her or wanting to pursue her. I really enjoyed the way that Lexi and Jack banter back and forth with each other. Their interactions can be humorous and also show much about how they feel about each other and themselves. There is chemistry between these two and they can’t stop thinking about each other. After what she has been through will Lexi give Jack a chance to win her heart or will he only disappoint her? Will Jack be able to convince Lexi that he wants to pursue a relationship with her? Read this book to find out. This is a wonderfully written story. It has some other amazing characters that I enjoyed reading about their part in the story and also their interactions with Lexi and Jack. All the way through I was rooting for Lexi and Jack to find their way into each other’s hearts and fall in love. Will it happen? Will they get an HEA? Don’t miss out on a wonderful story and one that I recommend reading.

The thing I loved about this book was that it wasn’t only a love story. It also had a mystery for the main characters to unravel. Amy Perry is a famous dancer who has travelled the world. Leaving behind a crazy ex and a nasty divorce, she goes home to fix the house she inherited, to make herself a home. Little does she know, her step father has hired her childhood nemesis as her contractor. Faced with dealing with him again, Amy realizes that he has grown up to be a man. He is sexy, gorgeous and turns out he’s a gentleman too.

Sean Newland is surprised to see Amy. He found her cute back then but now she’s grown to be a beautiful, independent woman. Both have sworn to remain single but with an attraction so strong, will they succumb to their desires? First day on the job and they find a dead body on the premises and her Uncle’s journal full of riddles. Working together to solve the mystery brings them closer each day.

The story was well written with different plots that never overpowered each other but blended perfectly. Amy and Sean didn’t rush to jump into bed rather it was a slow build up that I appreciated. I was always anticipating what would happen next. The mystery of the story was a perfect crescendo until it was fully solved. I think Amabel Daniels did a wonderful job with this book.

Covert Identities is a superb enemies to lovers and second chance story by Amabel Daniels. Ms. Daniels has a real talent for creating addictively good storylines, and this one is no exception. This story was intriguing and engrossing, it had mystery, drama, romance, some suspense, and there was a lot more to the story than meets the eye. It was so easy to lose myself (in a great way) in this story, tearing through it in a matter of hours, because I really had to know what would happen. The subtle complexities in the storyline seemed effortless, but are a true testament to Ms. Daniels talents as an author.
A celebrity dancer, her childhood nemesis, a hunky contractor, her best friend, human remains, an ex-police dog, an intriguing diary, and a dilapidated mansion are just some of the elements that come together in this superb read. How does it all play out? You really should read all the riveting details for yourself. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
There is a lot going on in the story, all of which is brilliantly choreographed by Ms. Daniels into a smooth and very enjoyable read. The story was a little bit slow to get going, but after a couple of chapters, the story really took off and I was hooked right through to the last word.
Ms. Daniels kept me guessing the whole way through. There were several scenarios that passed through my mind, making me wonder where the story would end up. I loved how Ms. Daniels twisted and turned the story, sprinkling surprises and unexpected details into the story.
I am really looking forward to reading the next book/s from Ms. Daniels.

Appetite of Envy by Amabel Daniels is another book in her Newland siblings’ series. After having read Better Than the Best about Kelly Newland and Will Parker, I was looking forward to her older brother’s story and she did not disappoint! It is a contemporary romance peppered with some suspense that keeps you on your toes!
Appetite of Envy is the story of Finn Newland and Lia Gardella. Finn has worked for Lia’s dad since he was 15 years old and he knows that he wants to do nothing but run Gardella’s until he breaths … making food is his passion! Lia has not set a step into her father’s restaurant for 10 years since she set fire to it, accidentally of course as she is one of the klutziest persons I have read about! At the same time she was also one of the most lovable persons I have read about ….
The writer is taking us on a suspenseful rollercoaster of emotions, pranks, hidden threats … and love … love that conquers all and love that once you acknowledge it, will open up a world where you feel that you can do anything if that other person is there for you … that other person becomes your home and nothing, nothing can go wrong (even if it actually does but your perspective on it is different).
I love the Newland family and I am looking forward to reading about the other brothers! I hope that the writer will not keep us too long in suspense! I am sure she has many amazing stories to share with us!

Better Than the Best by Amabel Daniels is a fantastic suspense/romance read. I read it as a standalone and it was my first encounter with the writer. I fell in love with her writing so after I finished the book I went and checked out what else she has published and I was delighted to see that there are 2 more books of the Newland family so I know what I will be reading next!
Better Than the Best is the story of Kelly Newland and Will Parker. Kelly is a former ER nurse from Atlanta who quit her job and divorced her husband and is looking of r a new start and meaning of life. She decides to go and try to start anew in Myrtle Beach but she never makes it there … she ends up in a small town Churchston. She has no idea that her life is going to take a tumble for the worse … Will is a black sheep of the sleepy small town and he is suffering from PTSD. He is anti-social and you could probably say that he hates the world (including Kelly)…
What do you get when you mix a sunny beach and lurking danger and quirky characters? You get a neck breaking rollercoaster ride where you hang on to the edge of your seat and try to keep your fingers crossed at the same time that please, please, let there be a happy ending and please please, I do not want anyone to die! Well…I guess you need to pick up your own copy to find out what the body count is (and if there is a body count on the first place) and while you hold your breath to get to the end, enjoy the great dialogue and all the supporting characters! I know that two of Kelly’s brothers have their own books but I really hope that Amabel will come back to Churchton and give Will and Kelly’s friends their own stories!

5 Amazing Stars

This book is officially one of my favorite books of the year, there’s only a few on this list and this one has just been added. You read in reviews often that a book was just impossible to put down, let me say this…..This book was completely impossible to put down, I read it in just a few hours and am still upset that it is over. This is my first book by this author and I promise will not be my last. Her writing style is the exact reason I love to read so much.

This book was an edge of your seat, heart racing, mind reeling kind of book. Every single word was important and every single page brought something new. Not only that, but I actually felt like an investigator during this story, working right alongside Grant and Roxie trying to solve the mystery of who killed Josh and trying to prove that Grants friend Ben was innocent.

I loved these people, both of them with terrible pasts trying to find a way to get along and solve this mystery while avoiding at every turn their attraction to each other. I just can’t say enough about how much I loved this book, I loved how everything played out, I love how the real Grant came out during the story and he wasn’t at all as he seemed to be, or actually what people thought he was. I loved Roxie’s personality and her snarky attitude, they both fit what my perfect book couple would be.

This author is amazingly brilliant, I’ve read too many books to count in my life and its seldom now that I find one that has me totally forgetting that real life is happening around me, but this one did. Thank you Thank you Thank you Miss Daniels for an amazing story, and I can not wait to read more of your books!

Simply Amazing!!
