Kayla has returned home after fleeing the abusive relationship she found herself in. Imagine her surprise to find out that her parents are selling their home to buy a condo…from the man she had a crush on when she was younger. When Jaxon runs into Kayla at a coffee shop, he wants to know more about her life and, more importantly, more about the bruises around her neck. He still has feelings for Kayla, but knows that they must clear the air regarding their pasts before they can have a future. When a former co-worker, and former ex of her ex, is found dead…Kayla fears that she could be next. A grim warning from the spirit of her brother really makes her start to worry. Add in Jaxon’s missing brother and there is a lot going on in this story. I found myself rooting for Jaxon and Kayla. You could feel their love for each other from the beginning. There were definitely some big secrets that they kept from each other…but watching how they dealt with them had me even more engrossed in the story. Overall, a good story that I was able to finish in one sitting.

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #2) by Amy McKinley
5 out of 5 stars This was a great story I just started reading this authors books and I am hooked. The characters are well written and amazing. The story line was awesome and could have come off the headlines in the news. The detail description was like I was in Honolulu

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 2)
Ms. McKinley is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Her books are the right balance of romance and suspense and a special twist at least I’m this series which I haven’t been able to figure out ahead of time which I love mostly but also frustrates me.
Jaxon and Kayla have quite a history and not all of it is pleasant. A chance meeting as she comes back to town helps reset everything.
The visual of Jaxon is a lot of Jason Mamoa, could it be the fact that the names are similar? Maybe, but I think it’s more the fact that they are both large sexy Hawaiian men.
These Hale boys are all absolutely dreamy in every way possible. They’re hot, fiercely protective of the women they love and they don’t let anyone get in their way.
I cannot wait until Tyler’s story is released! I have to know what happens on the mission and with the girl.

Bound by Secrets is the second book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops Series by Amy McKinley. Ms. McKinley is one of my go to authors. This series is one of my favorites of hers, but who doesn’t love suspense, romance with Navy Seals and Hawaii added in. This book had me hooked from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down until I finished. Kayla and Jaxon have some great chemistry. The story is full of twists and turns. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Amy McKinley continues her epic series with Bound By Secrets, Deadly Isle Special Ops, Book 2. Opening the story with Kayla fuming over her boyfriend’s infidelity, she confronts him with disastrous results. Roy, a superstar MMA fighter, unleashes his temper, choking Kayla to unconsciousness after saying “I own you.” When she regains consciousness, she flees the home, taking a flash drive that she suspects holds information that could hurt Roy. After a week passes, Kayla runs into Jaxon. Kieran was Jaxon’s best friend and Kayla’s deceased older brother. When they were teenagers, despite Kieran not wanting them to date, the two shared a night of intimacy. The same night, Kieran dies in a hit and run car wreck. Despite her misgivings about moving into Jaxon’s spare room, she knew Roy would never find her there. Her parents were buying his condo and Jaxon was moving to his family’s island. Jaxon still had feelings for Kayla and planned to attempt to rekindle their relationship. At the same time, his mind was also on a string of murders of former Navy SEALs that were on the same teams that his family had served on. After going to a group bonfire, Kayla agrees to give the relationship another try. After discovering the secrets that Jaxon had held about her brother, Kayla starts receiving messages from Roy and she discovers he had already met with her parents. What will Kayla do? What secrets did Jaxon reveal? Does Roy find Kayla?
After reading the first book of this series, McKinley excellent job building from pertinent characters mentioned in the first book. Xander and Jaxon are brothers and while not the main characters in this book, Xander and Riley début. The investigation that Xander had started is still in progress with Jaxon joining in. The character development is still my favorite aspect of her books, and I can’t wait to keep reading the series.

Attraction to another person can lead to connection. Connections, in any facet of life, have a way of becoming intertwined. Amy McKinley executes this intertwining with perfection in Twisted Secrets: Deadly Isles Special Ops, Book 1. The book view is through the eyes of Xander and Riley. Xander, a Navy SEAL on temporary leave due to an injury, hears Riley’s voice outside the Coffee Hut and immediately decides to meet her. Riley feels the same attraction but feels somewhat guilty since she already has a boyfriend. Xander continues his pursuit of a friendship with her, and Riley begins to question her current relationship with Charles. Charles was her theory professor that she had met via her friend Mel. Mel was also dating Charles but to make everything more complicated, the professor was also married. When Riley chooses to no longer make Charles a priority and spends a day with her confidant and best friend Ava, the thoughts of how unhappy she is with him surface. Finally, Riley attempts to end her relationship with Charles and begins to spend more time with Xander. Meanwhile, Xander has been working on finding answers to the ambush that had caused his injury. After several days of spending time together, Riley and Xander begin a relationship. Trouble brews as Charles refuses to end the relationship, Mel suddenly disappears, and Riley’s apartment becomes the focus of a murder investigation. Will Riley and Xander’s new relationship fail with the strain of issues that plague both of them? Who broke into Riley’s apartment? How far will Charles go to make Riley his?
The character development that McKinley crafted is far superior to many suspense romance novels that I have read. The ending of the book is definitely shocking and tied all loose ends together. It also left open the future of Xander’s investigation on the ambush in his last mission. I eagerly looked forward to reading the sequel.

Kayla and Jaxon never really got the chance to experience the love they had for each other before being torn apart by tragedy and secrets. They both carry pain and regret for lost chances; then they find themselves thrown together again.
I loved this novel! The characters are so real I could FEEL their passion and regret. Are they ever HOT together! The tension leaves you hoping they can move forward to explore what could be! A must read!

The second book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops by Amy McKinley was entertaining for sure. Was a very quick, enjoyable read. This was my first McKinley novel, and I did enjoy it. I don’t think you have to read the first one in the series to read this one, I enjoyed it and followed along without the first. There were some good twists and turns, some mystery, and resolutions I did not see coming. There were also elements of the supernatural which was a nice surprise. I would have liked if there was a warning about abuse somewhere, it can be triggering for some. (If I missed that then that’s my bad). The chemistry between the characters was great! Kayla’s story is well written and comes to a conclusion I think many will find emotional, surprising and fulfilling. If you love romance with some mystery then this is a book for you!

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops #2) by Amy McKinley
Another fantastic read by Amy McKinley. She certainly knows what to do to bring the readers back. Twisted Secrets is a great book, but Bound by Secrets is amazing. Can be read as a standalone.
Kayla comes home running from her ex boyfriend. She doesn’t think about what she’ll run into by going home. When she runs into her ex-lover and her deceased brother’s best friend she knows. The quote I chose for Kayla is: “We need to stay away from certain topics, or we won’t be able to live together. Anything with my brother is at the top of that list.”
Jaxon is still trying to get back to his civilian life. Working as a cop is great but it isn’t something he sees for himself. Running into Kayla makes him think of the past. Will she become a Hale? The quote I chose for Jaxon is: “It was a news alert. Several explosions happened at the same time.”

I’m really enjoying this series and this book doesn’t disappoint. This is book 2 in the series and although the characters from book 1 do make an appearance you don’t have to have read book 1 first (although why would you not?)
Jaxon was Kayla’s school crush and her brothers best friend. After the death of her brother Kayla left town and only returns when she is escaping from her stalker boyfriend. Jaxon does not want to miss out on his second chance with Kayla, but he has secrets she won’t be happy about.
There are a few threads running through this book, from both Kayla and Jaxon’s characters, and they will certainly keep you turning pages. The story is really well written and pulls you into the story. Kayla frustrated me a little bit at first, but she was going through so many things at the time that I’ll forgive her. Jason was so sweet and patient, desperately trying to show Kayla that they had a future together.
If you’ve enjoyed any of Amy McKinley’s books before, this one will not disappoint.

This book starts with Kayla Kane staring at the tv where she watches her boyfriend leaving the ring where he has just won his latest fight, but he is leaving with another woman and Kayla is enraged and plans to confront him when he gets home, but what happens when she does prompts her to leave as soon as she comes around. It isn’t the first time she has been abused by him, but this time, he took it too far and so she throws her belongings into a suitcase and bag and grabs her surfboard before putting as much distance as she can between her and the man she is going to leave behind. Jaxon Hale is tying up his stint as a beat officer with the local police where he has been working to see if it is a career he wants to follow, however, he is not happy and has decided to leave to join the team where his older brother works instead. When he goes into his local coffee shop, he is more than surprised to see Kayla, his first love and the woman he has had feelings for half his life, but she is hiding something and he won’t stop until he finds out what it is.
While they were in the coffee shop, an alert came through on Jaxon’s phone which looked like an attack, but when he arrives at the station, he realises that he is going to be getting nothing out of the officer on the case, so when his brother contacts him and confirms his suspicions, he knows that there is something else going on because he should be enjoying his honeymoon and adding into the fact that they can’t contact his brother as he is on a mission, Jaxon feels like he can’t do anything and he doesn’t like that feeling in the slightest. Meanwhile, Kayla goes to visit her parents, but when she gets there, she discovers that they are selling the house and Kayla isn’t happy that she will be losing another bit of her childhood and the memories forged there with her dead brother, but she tries to accept this unwelcome bit of news, but when she heads upstairs to start helping them to pack, she decides to start in her brothers room which she knows is going to be the hardest one to pack away and this is solidified when the memories come flooding back. Later on, she hears another voice and goes downstairs to find that Jaxon is there and it turns out his parents are moving to his old condo and that he came over to find out about paint choices so he could start redecorating so it is ready for them and remembering that there is a spare room, Kayla realises that this is the perfect answer to the situation with Roy and asks if she can stay there and help with the painting, Jaxon agrees, however, she is not sure how staying in the same house as him is going to work seeing as she has had the biggest crush on him for half her life.
As the time passes and Kayla and Jaxon spend more time with each other, they both realise that the time has come to talk about what happened in their past, but also about the present as well and the more they start to learn about the secrets surrounding them, the closer they become, but are the secrets they hold going to be a barrier they cannot surpass, or will they be able to build the future they have always wanted together? As the tension rises and patterns emerge, can the two work together to solve the mysteries surrounding them? This is a fast paced romance with secrets and revelations abound within it, but that is what will keep you reading until the very end.

Bound By Secrets (Book Two of the Deadly Isles Special Ops series) by Amy McKinley was a great read! Although I like the first book better than this one, this one was great in it’s own way. McKinley handled the woes of an abusive relationship without it being a huge trigger, which was impressive in my opinion. I felt like there should have been a bit more of a backstory with Kayla and Roy’s relationship, and with Kayla and Jaxon’s past. This book had a slower build-up in my opinion versus the first one, and wasn’t as thrilling. However, there was an unexpected twist that I loved and suspense at the very end. All in all this was a really good read and I can’t wait for the installment in this series!

This is the second book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops Series and I loved it. The author does an amazing job of grabbing your attention right at the beginning and not letting go. I love the mixture of romance and danger and the twists in the book is something I never saw coming.
Kayla has it all from the outside including the rich professional boyfriend. What people don’t realise is that the boyfriend is violent and abuse. After an incident that nearly cost Kayla her life she is forced to flee. She arrives home and gets help from an unlikely source.
Jaxon has always loved Kayla but after Kayla’s brother died in a car accident their relationship failed. Now he has her back in his life and he plans on keeping her there no matter the cost. Can Kayla forgive Jaxon for all the secrets he’s kept surrounding her brother? Can Kayla trust Jaxon enough to accept his help? Will she remain free of her ex boyfriend or will he seek her out for leaving him?

5 stars! Excellent! I was hooked on this book just as much as the first one. This book can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading them in order, as it gives some history on the other characters. I was excited to see this book was about Jaxon. I liked the connection of Jaxon standing in for the current chief of police who happens to be Kaylas father. My heart broke for poor Kayla having to deal with an abusive boyfriend, and it seems he has no problem in taking it to the extreme of trying to kill her. I swooned when Jaxon would stop at nothing to help Kayla and make sure she stayed safe, I love second chance at love. All of the suspense, drama and romance really made for an awesome story. Amy McKinley is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors with the way she can tell a story, I was kept on the edge waiting to see what was going to happen next and was blown out of water with the twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Who is up next!?

Another Amy McKinley story with love, misunderstandings, adventure, missed opportunities, 2nd chances and sexy times. Another story worth reading. Bound by Secrets, Deadly Isles Special Ops book 2 is about Kayla and Jaxson, the past they share and the future they want. But the present is trying to kill Kayla, making the future look anything but bright. This story starts out with violence but with hope as well. The journey that Kayla takes is full of surprises, including the one that got away, Jaxson.
I enjoyed this story with all the emotional ups and downs the characters had to face. Looking forward to reading more in this series and seeing what happens next with the other Special Ops.

The second in the Deadly Isles- Special Ops series, Bound by Secrets is just as exciting as its predecessor! Once again, we are in the beautiful city of Honolulu, this time with Jaxon Hale and Kayla Kane, his high school best friend’s little sister. Kayla is outrunning her abusive ex-boyfriend when she runs into her childhood crush while returning to her parents’ home; Jaxon is working as an interim-police officer while Kayla’s father- the police chief- recovers from heart surgery, and is pleasantly surprised that she is back in town, but worried about the man who hurt and scared her so badly. Bound by Secrets follows the two former friends and lovers while they work through their shared history and heartache, and through the current threat to her life. Just as before, I could not put down Amy McKinley’s book once I started!! The characters are richly created, and the scenery is as beautiful as in reality. There is a bit of cliché in a girl and her late brother’s best friend finally coming together after years of hurt between them, but the impact that the late Keiran Kane had on his friends and family adds a kind of sweet twist on the tale. I’m excited for the last installment to come out in March!!

Bound by Secrets is the 2nd book in Amy McKinley’s Deadly Isles Special Ops series. It is pretty similar theme as the 1st book. I really love these books, and cannot wait for them to merge into the Gray Ghosts series. While you do not have to read in order, you really should read book 1 as well, because they are both great. This story focuses on Jaxon, another Hale brother, and Kayla. Kayla is escaping a bad relationship, one she nearly died from. Upon returning back home, she runs into her childhood crush. Despite her feelings for him, he is the best person to stay with, and keep her safe. The characters both have good backstory and their chemistry is great. I love that they have a history and are friends before lovers. McKinley is so good at keeping things a secret, and keeping the readers hooked throughout. I did not piece together all the pieces of this puzzle until the very end. I did not see in coming, much like book one. I highly recommend this story, and cannot wait to read book 3, which I imagine tells the story of the last Hale brother.

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #2) by Amy McKinley was a great 5 star read.
Kayla is in a relationship that takes a dark turn and she runs, she’s done but she knows he won’t give up on her that easily. She goes home but she knows she has to stay alert. When she sees Jaxon old feelings come back.
Jaxon was Kayla’s brother’s best friend and she was off limits. But when they finally gave in to their feelings tragedy hit and that was the one and only night they had. Now that she is back in town he is determined to never lose her again. He agrees to her staying with him and they quickly discover they still have the chemistry and attraction from before.
Overall this was a great read. I felt like I had several different stories going on. We have several twists and turns. There was an even bigger twist towards the end that totally threw me off and had me thinking WTH. All of the characters added a great element to the story. We get a couple of steamy moments. The author does a great job of pulling you in with her writing and I can’t wait to read more from this series. 1-click and get started today.

Bound by Secrets is the second book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops series by Amy McKinley. The story centres around Kayla, a young woman who has found herself living with an abusive man who she thought she loved, when she decides to leave him he is not happy with the so she runs, straight back to her family in Honolulu but her childhood home is haunted by memories of her past. Her brother, who tragically died and his best friend, who was Kayla’s first love Jaxon. Jaxon is shocked when he see’s Kayla again after so many years. His feelings for her haven’t changed and his protective instincts kick in straight away. As well as hiding from her abusive ex and rekindling her lost love, Kayla starts looking into her brothers death more closely but she doesn’t like what she finds. I enjoyed this book, it has a good storyline, likable characters and a good twist in the tale. Will definitely look for more books by this author.

Bound By Secrets is the 2nd book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops series by Amy McKinley. I have been a huge fan of Amy McKinley’s writing since I first read the Gray Ghost series and I always love when she releases a new book for me to indulge in. I had loved the first book in the Deadly Isles series Twisted Secrets and was looking forward to reading more about the Hale Brothers. In this book we get the story of former Navy SEAL Jaxon Hale and his former best friend’s sister Kayla Kane. Jaxon and Kayla had spent one night together as teens and hasn’t seen Jaxon since she moved away following the death of her brother. Now he has Kayla back in his life Jaxon is going to do everything he can to make sure that she doesn’t ever leave him again. I loved Jaxon and Kayla’s story. It’s a fantastic second chance romance with a lot more thrown in. Amy McKinley’s stories are always full of danger, intrigue, mystery and passion and Bound By Secrets is a fantastic example of her amazing storytelling talents. She has the amazing knack of being able to grab you straight away with the story and keep you gripped and entertained right up to the very end. I’ve given every book of hers I’ve ever read 5 stars and this will be no different. This book is definitely worth the 5 stars. Highly recommend!

Bound By Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 2) by Amy McKinley has secrets, tragedy, an abusive ex-boyfriend, family relationships, and some twisted logic in the part of one character. This book is about Jaxson a recently retired Navy Seal and Kayla who finds herself in an abusive relationship and runs away to hide. Jaxson and Kayla have unresolved feeling for each other from when they were kids. The night they finally got together as teens, Kayla’s brother died in a tragic accident and things got kind of messy. Although Kayla was holding onto a lot of anger and hurt, she reaches out to Jaxson for help with Roy and how much danger she is in.
The story is well written and kept my attention. Jaxson and his brothers were in the first book so it was nice to have that background. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I have read a few books from this author and she continues to blow my mind. This book has my two favorite genres, second chance and military romance. This storyline exceeded all my expectations. This is the second book of the addictive series of Deadly Isles Special Ops. They don’t need to be read in order but there are previous characters in this story as well. I was so excited when I got this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. I could not put this book down until the end and I can’t wait to read the next book.
Kayla Kane leaves her abusive boyfriend and she has to lay low. She finds herself back in her childhood city. Kayla starts to think about her brother that died in an accident that was never solved. She is shocked when she sees her high school lover, Jaxon. Kayla can’t help but to have feelings for him but he broke her heart. She doesn’t want to get hurt again but she needs his help. Kayla knows her ex is watching her and sooner or later she will be in danger. Will Kayla and Jaxon be able to heal from the past or will there be more secrets that will ruin it all?

I couldn’t pick this book up fast enough after reading the first in this series and absolutely loving it! I enjoyed this one almost as much, McKinley’s writing style is so easy to read and her writing just flows effortlessly which makes for a really relaxing reading experience, despite the fact the plots are so fast paced and thrilling.
This plot was less thrilling that Twisted Secrets for me personally, which is the only reason I have given a lower rating than the previous book. I – again – really enjoyed reading about Jason and Kayla and I thought Jaxon’s character in particular was very well explored. I would have enjoyed a little more background on Kayla. Having said that, I loved the storyline involving her and Kieran. And the final paragraph of the book genuinely brought tears to my eyes and really moved me.
I think if you want a book that has lots of twists, some steamy romance scenes and a thrilling plot then Amy McKinley is definitely a good author to get to know. I will absolutely be continuing this series and cannot wait to see what the characters will have to face next.

As soon you start reading, Twisted Secrets pulls you right into caring about the main characters. The love story between Xander and Riley is artfully weaved in a compelling mystery that keeps you guessing. You will find yourself offended for Riley when it comes to her pompous boyfriend and rooting for to find her way. Just when you think you have the mystery solved, there is a big twist that you won’t see coming! You’ll find yourself breezing through the pages of the story to discover the secrets and if their story will end happily ever after. This book opens the way to read the next book in the series to find more out about the dashing Hale brothers while also a great stand alone story.
