Omorrow (Ascenders #3) by C.L. Gaber – Review by Jenni Bishop

Omorrow (Ascenders #3)Omorrow by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Omorrow is the third book in C.L. Gaber’s Ascenders series starts where Skypunch left off. These books should be read in order as Omorrow continues on from Ascenders and Ascenders Skypunch and the characters have very extensive and very complex back stories.

The story continues as Walker Callaghan and Daniel Reid and the specially picked motley crue from the Midst are sent back to the living realm on an impossible mission to try and find the mystery of Albert Einstein’s writings. There is just one major snag and that is if you die in the past in the living realm you do not come back and you will not be born in the future. They also have one major rule on this mission and that is do not do anything to to change the past because it could change the future.

Walker the unspoken leader of the group definitely feels the pressure to solve things and the group find themselves in more sticky situations than ever. But who can they trust? Only one thing for sure friends could be foes and foes friends. Walker can count on one thing and one thing only and that is Daniel. Daniel is her one constant, her crutch to lean on but what happens when that crutch is no longer available?

With each jump in time they find themselves looking to discover clues and answers which are revealed to Walker and Daniel along the way to ensure that the information does not fall into the wrong hands. With the pressure on, can they find the mysterious writings in time and can they survive the trial and tribulations thrown at them and the ones they care about without anyone dying?

C.L. Gaber is a talented writer who has the ability to make things, fun, exciting and entertaining. The story takes you on a magical journey that you can not put down.
Omorrow certainly didn’t disappoint and was the best in the series so far. I have come to love all the characters and especially all their quirks. I can’t wait to see what C.L. comes up with next for these lovable misfits.

Skypunch (Ascenders #2) by C.L. Gaber – Review by Jenni Bishop

Skypunch (Ascenders #2)Skypunch by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

CL Gaber is one excellent story teller as she will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat as you read her books. Putting the book down until the very end is not an option, as this series will pull you in and leave you wanting more. These books are definitely not standalone books. You need to read each of them in the correct order to fully understand all the world that CL has cleverly weaved in this story of Walker Callaghan. This book continues with the same characters we enjoyed in the first book, but there are many new introductions to some new FREAKy characters as well.

This book picks right up from where book 1 finished off. The journey continues with Walker and Daniel realm jumping and after they have returned from their visit to the living realm they are sent to be punished. The conditions that they have to contend with will set your heart racing and will have you wanting to wreak havoc on those doling out their punishment. Walker and Daniel find themselves released from their confinement and slaves to a Higher Authority that needs them to return to the living realm to find something long buried. To refuse is not an option. Daniel and his family come face to face with their past in a way they never expected and the chaos that brings to them.

I really enjoyed the growth of Walker and Daniel and their family and all of their friends. I particularly enjoy reading about all the celebrity faculty members and those of the Higher Authority and look forward to who we may meet next and their roles within the stories. There are many, many secrets within secrets in this wonderful world that will keep you captivated from book to book. This wonderfully written book will keep you entertained. You will find yourself smiling and laughing at their antics and rooting for them to overcome all terrible things that happen. The characters are goofy and fun, engaging and clever. I am looking to continuing the adventure with them in the next book.

High School for the Recently Departed (Ascenders #1) by C.L. Gaber – Review by Jenni Bishop

High School for the Recently Departed (Ascenders #1)High School for the Recently Departed by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

CL Gaber has written a completely unique, fresh and original story in Ascenders: High School for the Recently Departed. This is a paranormal romance story that will keep you enthralled from the beginning to the end. The characters are well written and their stories will keep you captivated
and invested in them every step of the way upon their journey. This is a story about the afterlife for teenager,s which could possibly give you a glimpse of what that could be like.

Walker Callaghan has ascended into one part of a heavenly realm, the Midst, but she doesn’t know it yet. Walker wakes to find everything she knew is gone. She finds herself at the Academy and much to her dismay, on a huge learning curve about the afterlife. Walker finds herself on an
adventure of epic proportions, which has plenty of ups and downs.Daniel Reid is also a teenager at the Academy and lives next door to Walker with his siblings. Daniel is a bit of a mystery as he keeps to himself but he is a man with a mission and nobody and I mean nobody will sway him from the path he so desperately seeks. He is determined to find a way to get his youngest brother, Bobby, who is an earth bound spirit.

Slowly but surely Walker finds herself a part of the Reid clan and in love with Daniel. Walker decides that whatever Daniel has planned she will not let him face it alone, she will be right there by his side come hell or high water. The Academy has many famous people from all walks of life that appear as the many members of the faculty. Dr King reigns as the Academy’s principal and is the enforcer of the rules in this realm but there are no rules. The story is fun and highly imaginative. There is love and friendship, danger in bounds, fear and acceptance. There is a quest, a new world to explore, and emotions to develop. The story takes you on a journey to a new world that will leave you wondering just what is on the other side.

Ascenders by C.L. Gaber – Review by Carrie Reed

High School for the Recently Departed (Ascenders #1)High School for the Recently Departed by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ascenders by C.L. Gaber is PERFECT!!!! I love d everything about this book. I could not put it down and when I finally got to the end, I was so mad and needed the second book ASAP!

Walker is a 17 year old high school girl who has just passed away. After dying she is in this sort of middle world. This new place isn’t heaven or hell, it is sort of a waiting place for teenagers and kids alike. They haven’t grown completely, so they all must attend school while living in this new “realm”. There are coffee shops, a movie theater, a supermarket and all kinds of places that make this space look like a normal everyday town you would find anywhere. The best thing about this new place is that she no longer feels pain. Internal pain, as in matters of the heart, yes, she can feel this but not physical pain. She also can’t die, because she’s already dead. In one class Walker meets Daniel and she immediately falls for him but he comes off as a jerk.

Daniel has been in the afterlife for a couple of years by now. He lives in a house with his 2 younger sisters and his brother. There is only one problem in Daniel’s life and it is the fact that his youngest brother Bobby is not with them. He is stuck the real world as a ghost like person, waiting for his big brother Danny to take him to their new home. The only problem is Daniel doesn’t know how to reach the portal to reach Bobby. Adding another distraction to his life is the beautiful Walker. He has no time for her, but is as drawn to her as she is to him. When she pushes her way in on the plan to retrieve his brother, he can’t do anything to stop her, but he will try to protect her at all costs.

The only important rule at Academy High School is to never try to go back to the real world, and to just forget everything about your past life. Will these two teenagers be able to cross the portal and get back safely? Will they be thrown into ITT, a school for teenage murderers and rapists? Will all survive?

I want to basically spell out every single thing that happens in this book, but I won’t so that I don’t ruin it for anyone. I loved this book so much. The story was something I haven’t read before, and the concept was awesome! The characters were so nicely developed and watching the relationships between all of the characters build was fantastic. I loved how each of the main characters, we got a back story on how they died and why they were now at the Academy High School. I have nothing but good things to say about this book and can not wait to read the second installment. This book is complete 5 stars from me!

Omorrow (Ascenders #3) by C.L. Gaber – Review by Sheri Schrader

Omorrow (Ascenders #3)Omorrow by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ascenders: Omorrow by CL Gaber is the third book in the Ascenders Saga series. I was so excited to get to read because I enjoyed the first two books in the series. The story picks up where book two left off. This is a YA fantasy, adventure story. Walker Calllaghan and Daniel Reid are teens who have passed away and have found themselves living in the Midst. The two with several other teens have been sent on a mission to the living world of various decades to find the hidden writings of Albert Einstein. If they can accomplish this task without being killed and erased from all time the treasure will change life for the living and the dead.
The characters are fun and everyone has a purpose in the story. There are popular kids, the geeks, the misfits, and more. This is a great reminder that someone might not fit in but they have a place and a function in society. Walker is strong, independent and coming into her own as the books progress. She has found her strength and become a strong leader. Daniel is strong and the silent one. He is the unspoken guardian to his siblings who passed away with him in an accident. Also, there are many others in on this challenge. I enjoy the references to history and cultural/historical figures that pop up in the Midst. Gaber gives enough of a description so you know who the reference is even without the full name. I look forward to reading more of CL Gaber’s books in the future.

Omorrow (Ascenders #3)Omorrow by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ascenders: Omorrow is the third book in C. L. Gaber’s Ascenders Saga. I personally do not think that it should/could be read as a standalone! There is so much that we have learnt about all of the main characters and the dynamics between and among them and their motivation in the first two books and you would totally lose out on that!
I have to say that so far Omorrow has been my absolute favorite out of the three. I do NOT know where the writer finds her inspiration, her imagination simply blows me away with every single page! I am telling you, I cannot wait for the next book! She has left me in a limbo, again, waiting for my next fix!
This story runs you through a gamut of emotions – I cried, a lot, I laughed, I raged, I feared, I …. Well, you get the picture … This books keeps you on the edge of your seat, literally, and you will NOT leave before you have finished it AND then end comes way too early …
This is a continuing story of Walker and Daniel and their friends and foes where they continue on their journey to finish the mission given to them by the Higher Authority. You will find out if you know your history and historical figures, it is such a fun to go and say, hi, I know who she means!
I love how the writer has created such a strong character (and female role model) in Walker, I kept falling more in love with her with every chapter. Daniel is nothing to sneeze at either. The writer has given us a super couple with a fantastic set of friends.
I recommend this series to anyone, doesn’t matter if you are young or old, everyone will find something (actually a lot) to enjoy!

Skypunch (Ascenders #2) by C.L. Gaber – Review by Sheri Schrader

Skypunch (Ascenders #2)Skypunch by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Ascenders: Skypunch” by C.L. Gaber is the second book in the Ascenders series. This book continues the adventures of Walker Callahan and Daniel Reid in the Realm. They have returned from the living world after realm jumping but now must face their punishment. Without giving too much away, they are given a deal by the Higher Authority. Will they fulfill the challenge or back out?
This book continues with many of the characters we enjoyed in the first book, plus introduces some new characters also. I enjoyed the continued development of Walker, Daniel, and the Reid family. Also, their friends from the Academy such as Iz, Bertha, and Tosh. We are introduced to the students of Freak U. such as the Claires and Tor and revisited by the Wargo boys from ITT. I especially enjoy the special teachers, members of the Higher Authority, and other members of the faculties involved with the various schools.
I loved that the second book picks up right where the first one left off. Keep this in mind and read the first book first. I’m sure it could be read as a standalone but would not be as suspenseful. The development of the characters and the concept of the Realm is different and entertaining. The story is original and different. What a concept that teens who pass too soon have a chance to continue their stories. I was excited after the first book still is after reading the second book. I cannot wait to see where the story continues.

Skypunch (Ascenders #2)Skypunch by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Skypunch is the second book in C.L.Gaber’s Ascenders series and absolutely you should not read it before you have read the first book! You get a fairly good introduction into the story line but in no way it is good enough to really embrace the universe the author has created!
I jumped instantly into the second book when I finished the first book, it was late in the evening but I did not care! I was so wrapped up in this magnificent epic cinematic world that I could not wait to see what comes next! I do not want to give anything away so it is a bit challenging to write the review but what I can say is that this book was even better than the first book, the descriptions were outstanding and to the extent that you could easily picture everything in your mind – the colors, the shapes, the characters, the suspense…The suspense was intense, there were so many twists and turns and many of them were totally out of blue!
The book ends with a cliffhanger, there will be at least one more book (but I can imagine there could be many more) and I cannot wait for it. In some ways it reminds me of the other great series where the authors have created other worlds that entrance us and never let us go and that make you think that maybe, just maybe, it is all possible!
C.L. Gaber has included a wealth of life lessons as she did also in the first book – what is a friendship and can it be broken, every action has a consequence and yes, there are some rules that cannot be broken… The lessons are natural part of the story and in no way come across as preachy and some of them are uttered by historic characters that we actually associate with them.
I recommend this series to everyone, young and mature, there is something for everyone, you will not regret the hours you will spend with the characters!

Ascenders-High School for the Recently Departed (Ascenders, #1) by C.L. Gaber – Review by Sheri Schrader

High School for the Recently Departed (Ascenders #1)High School for the Recently Departed by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ascenders: High School for the Recently Departed by C.L. Gaber is the start of the Ascenders Saga. This is an interesting paranormal young adult book. The idea is new and interesting and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. The story is about the recently departed Walker Callahan. She is now attending high school in the Realm. This is where teens go when they pass away. Life continues for them and they must keep going to school and learning.
Once at the school Walker meets Daniel Reid, who passed with his siblings in an accident. His mission in life is going back to rescue his baby brother who did not make it to the Realm but is caught as an Earth bound spirit. The Realm is a place of almost no rules. The only rule in the Realm is that you cannot go back to earth. How will Daniel get around the rules? Will Walker take this path with her new love Daniel?
I really enjoyed the new concept and look forward to where this series will go. The addition of deceased celebrities as the faculty was a fun addition. Where else do you have class with Kurt, Heath, Steve, Julia or school counselors George or Miss Elizabeth? Also the concept of teens being able to keep progressing is a nice concept especially when you consider how many have a life cut short by an accident or illness.

High School for the Recently Departed (Ascenders #1)High School for the Recently Departed by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ascenders by CL Gaber is a young adult paranormal book where the author gives us an imaginative and creative look into afterlife. She has created a whole new world for us and this is just the first step/book. It is the world between life and the afterlife where the children and teenagers and young adults end up when they die and you are not ‘eligible’ to go up or down.
I loved the writing, it felt as if you were sitting in the movies and there was this amazing 3D blowing your mind away story unfolding in front of you and you just have to hold on for the ride!
The story pulled me in from the beginning, it was crazy to follow Walker in her ‘new’ reality where she was the only one who did not know yet that she was dead. I have to admit, I cried a lot when I read the book, I also laughed a lot … and I never really experienced the high school in the way it is generally portrayed in the books and movies so it was fun to read how the author conformed to the ‘high school stereotype’ but made it so fun that you could laugh your pants off.
I loved the dynamics and intimacy between Walker and Daniel, the compassion both of them inspire in us, we keep our fingers crossed until the last page and I have to say that I jumped straight into the second book when I was done with the first one, you just cannot let go of the story as you want to know … what will be the punishment, what will be next…
And then there were the side characters, oh my… it was really cool to make connection to the famous people who we know from the history and who turn up as teachers or guest lecturers at the Academy aka the high school, as the title says!
Put aside some time and enjoy it! You will not regret it!
