The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones Book 2) by C.L. Schneider – Review by Betsy Melano

Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones, #2)Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A different experience for Ian Troy in this second book of The Crown of Stones Series! Ian Troy has been captured by King Draken and drugged. Ian must figure out a way out of the prison he’s been held in and find a way to keep his friends safe!
This book is a bit darker than the first book in the series. The interaction between Ian and his friends seem a bit strained. They find ways to work through the friendships.
Overall I really enjoyed this second book and felt connected to Ian Troy with the struggles he endured. It was even harder to set the book down to get stuff done around the house.

Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones, #2)Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I highly highly suggest reading the first book first, as this does pick up where book one left off. Just when I thought this series couldn’t get any better, the second book blows it out of the water. Ian is literally left with nothing. No memories, no money, no weapons, nothing. He has to go through his light trying to figure out how to with his magic all over again, how he is linked to the crown of stones, and how to be a leader all over again. High expectations are set on Ian when the rebellion needs him and his magic and his connection to the crown of stones. In this thrilling second installment of Crown of Stones, be prepared to have an adventure because this second book sure takes you for a wild ride!

Magic-Price (The Crown of Stones, #1)Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was absolutely fantastic! The story arc, the background story in the beginning, character development, so many good things I can’t decide where to start first. I usually read female protagonists because they are more relatable for me, but wow reading about Ian and his struggles made me think of my own. This author absolutely hit it out of the park. Ian struggles with who he is and what his power does to him if he uses it. He makes a decision in which he thought was right at the time, but now is paying for it dearly. Will he come to accept his magic and what it does? Or will he fall into the addiction it brings and never look back again?

Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones, #2)Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book two and honestly, I couldn’t have enjoyed it anymore then the first one. It starts off right away with not even remembering what was going on. And when troy finally starts to remember, he try’s very hard to put it all together. The author wrote this incredible book of kings, fighters, magic, betrayal, war, evil, and so much more that I could not put it down and just had to read to know what was going to happen to our wonderful characters. Magic users in this book use to be the ones that ruled, but people got scared and so they feared the Shinree and tried to do anything to control them, including drugging them. This book kept me reading and, on my seat, the whole time. But so did the first book in this amazing trilogy. Can’t wait to read book three to know what will happen. Great book, recommend.

Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones #2)Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ian Troy has been captured, tortured, and drugged. The king and his father are at the center of him forgetting who he is and what all he has done. After he’s rescued and presumed dead by the latter, he slowly comes back to himself and what he finds isn’t to his liking. He has to come to terms with the things that he has done and also what has been done to him in order to find the power within himself to thwart the king and his father’s evil plans. Can he find his friends and keep them safe before they can be used against him? Can he find out how to harness the power of the crown of stones before his father?

This is a pretty intense book. Ian does some really awful things. Granted, some of them are not completely his fault, but he still has to pay the price of them. I feel like the author did a good job of walking him through coming to terms with who he is and what he’s done. He had to make some hard choices and pay for them. In a world where everyone seems to be out for themselves, Ian Troy seems to always be thinking of others more than himself. Thankfully, he has loyal friends that stick with him through the horror and violence.

Just so other readers know, there are several scenes that are explicit.

Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones, #2)Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The book is set a couple years after the first book in the trilogy. Since it has been a year since I read the previous book, I was a little worried I would be lost but the way the author slipped in past events made it very easy to follow and remember what had happened.

After Troy was defeated, he was thrown into prison for 2 years. Constantly being drugged to suppress his magic. When he finally comes to, he is lost. Lost in more ways than one. He has no idea where he is, who he is, who he was, nothing.

As time goes on, Ian starts remembering, including names of people who have done him wrong. He tries to figure out who he once was and his ties to the crown. All while trying to put things back together before the reign of Draken of Langor.

I have been in love with this author since I read the first book in this trilogy last year. I really enjoy this author’s writing. They are very focused and show a lot of attention and care with everything they write. Each character comes to life and the writing style in all of their books makes you lose yourself in the fantasy world. This book was no different. I enjoyed this book a little more than the first as it was more dark and twisted. I would highly recommend this book and anything else this author writes!

This book is one heck of an adventure. I found that the adventure just grabs you from the beginning. Troy is still my favorite character. He’s trying to adjust from being out of prison and finds himself fighting a war. Non-stop action, great dialogue, intriguing characters all make for a winner. This is book 2 of the series and I’m looking forward to reading book 3.

Dahlia is a fierce force and this final book shows her full strength and how she has truly become all that she was meant to be. The growth and development over the series has cast her in many lights but this is the one where we literally and figuratively see her spread her wings as she was meant to. The support system around her of trustworthy and supportive friends allow her to grow in ways she did not see and that was one of the best parts of the series itself.. As it all winds down you get one last epic adventure with action, suspense, drama, excitement, and magic with these delightful characters and epic Heroine. Sad that the series is over but what a way to end it! From book one there has been nothing but amazing characters and a fantastic storyline. The world the author built has been fantastic and the lead Character, Dahlia has been nothing but amazing. Learning that the world and rules she grew up with were wrong she set out to protect those who couldn’t protect herself. She put her life on the line again and again. The growth of this character has been amazing. It’s bittersweet to say goodbye. Please read the entire series so that you get the full effect. I’m so happy with the way the series ended and the Epilogue was a “Finally!” Moment. Thank you to the author for a fantastic world to escape to.

The life that Dahlia has build in Sentinel City is over. Fall after fall. Beaten and bruised. She’s tried so hard to keep the city safe from all the creatures of the veil, but it wasn’t enough. Utterly betrayed and completely crushed, she struggles to put out more blazing inferno fires than one half dragon shapeshifter can handle on her own. Her worlds have defiantly collided and it’s not good at all! Fighting to protect the world that she has come to love, Dahlia must find a way to save what remains of her poor crumbling city. This tragic new reality has the damaged veil between the worlds eroding faster and faster. Exits are multiplying fast and giving free reign to the creatures who will devour everything in their path. Her dragon is done sitting quietly in the background. She must stop the chaos and mad scientist before the Renewal extinguishes all life on the linked worlds. Her worlds! Will her dragon help her to save her home? Will her dragon take over and let the worlds kill each other? Mass murder! And what about her team?! Her family! Dahlia has much to do if she wants to save a little corner of her rubble of a world. But is that even possible at this point?? Against many walls she must try! I can’t believe that I’m done! This was such a great set!!! I want to read them all again just to make sure that I didn’t miss anything! And I probably will! LOL! And if I have anything to say about it there should be some movies made about this set!! Can you picture the dragon shapeshifter?? The rips in veils! The creatures!!! I sure can!! If you haven’t started this set yet you need to!! You will not want to put it down for sure!!

Dahlia Nite has lived undetected among the humans of Sentinel City for some time. Hunting creatures at all hours of the night to keep the humans safe, has been her personal mission for a while. A century! As a half dragon shape shifter she relies on many secrets and a lot of deception to keep her cover. Sometimes multiple covers! Walking in two worlds and belonging to neither keeps her hiding in plain sight, while also providing a good cover. Sometimes. It’s worked for so long. But nothing can stay hidden forever, right? When bodies start showing up dismembered and dumped at the river, Dahlia is on the case with human Detective Creed. Sentinel City begins to unravel while they try to set off with a new task force to uncover what is going on with these new killings. Clues set them on a path from crime scene to crime scene, but there is something wrong with the evidence and it just doesn’t add up! Already on edge, Dahlia employs her empathic abilities and uncovers something that makes her worlds crash into each other head first. All the secrets are piling up and she’s not the only one who is keeping them! Yeah!! She struggles to shield her friends from the truth about the veil and the monsters, but the serial killer, missing creatures, masked men, and her sidekick’s missing sister to boot is to much for Dahlia to handle! Will Dahlia break and everything come unraveled? Will her friends find out the truth about her and the worlds she tries to hide? Yet another great book to this set!! If you haven’t started this set you should!! It is so good!! It will keep you up all night just because you want to finish it!! This is defiantly one that I would recommend! Dahlia Nite is back again with more murder mysteries piling up all around her. She has become a “fire consultant” for the police of Sentinel City, which helps her stay close to the “more interesting” (aka more bizarre) cases. The ones that she needs to help cover up before the veil of creatures and worlds are exposed to the fragile humans. She has hunted creature from the torn veil to keep humanity safe for almost a century now. She knows her monsters, but now something is throwing it all off. Something is different. But what is it? Smells and emotions are off. Are these victims really human? Or something else?? People are mutating and she can’t smell anything but human before they combust! Yes they combust! As in up in flames!!! Combusting humans from homeless to high-class are drawing attention so fast that it’s hard to cover up. Dahlia and her human partner (Creed) investigate the deaths but only come up with more questions and even more bodies. The public is on the verge of a major panic that can consume the whole city! Is this a virus? Is it contagious?? She needs to move fast and find what or who is at fault! Can her sidekick help to figure out that is going on? Will the queen step in and just take care of her at the same time? Two birds one stone? Man this book kept me on my toes!! I CAN NOT wait to read the rest in this set!!! I REALLY want this to become a movie! If done right I can totally see this set becoming a movie series!!

Exit Strategy (Nite Fire #5)Exit Strategy by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was absolutely amazing! I have loved this series since book one and could not wait to see what this book held for me. The action started right away. The destruction and travesty were devastating, but Dahlia and her friends chose to fight the evil. The characters have developed so much throughout this series. They are what really make this so good. The evolution of Dahlia while still keeping to her beliefs. The friends she has forged and the new ones she meets along the way.

But the story is what really kept me from not being able to but the book down. The story is so original and gripping. So many things are happening at once. Just when you think it’s over, it’s really just begun. The world the author has created — so descriptive and imaginative. The author weaves this fantastic tale with intriguing characters into a masterpiece.

The last book in the series, the previous books need to be read first. But if you are a fan of urban fantasy, you really need to read this book and series.

Exit Strategy (Nite Fire #5)Exit Strategy by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dahlia Nite, the shapeshifting, scaled vigilante is back and it is the end of the world, or at least the beginning of the end, everything she thought she knew and trusted has been ripped apart at the seams and she doesn’t know where to go or what to do first and her list has just been added to again. As she recovers from the shock of the city being brought to its knees and the disappearance of half of her team without so much as a note or message to say where they have gone, she has to go on fighting for the place she has come to love and where has almost become home, but for Dahlia, as usual, nothing is straight forward.

First on the list is both to try and stay alive and keep those on her team which are left alive, this is easier said than done as rubble is strewn all over Sentinel City, fires are burning out of control and the skyline has been completely changed by the attack

.Second, she has to figure out a way to stop the blight and halt the spread of this over the linked worlds, while also trying to figure out where it came from and how it adapts to each environment so quickly.

Thirdly she has to find a way to close the exits which are forming as the veil slowly disintegrates and which are popping up all over the place and causing more trouble than they are worth, not to mention the influx of supernatural creatures which are using them.

In place number four, she has the mad scientist who is bent on world domination and who is thriving in the chaos around them and using it to their advantage.

Finally, she has the lovely dragon inside her who she hopes is about to divulge the information she needs to tackle all of the above, but who is also done with being blocked and starts to take matters into their own hands.

With all that commotion, there is no time for grief, emotion or sometimes even to breathe, but as Dahlia makes the hard choices, will she be able to complete all her tasks before the Renewal takes any chance away from her? This is a fast paced urban fantasy adventure full of action, adventure, hurdles and stress come together in this race against the end of the world where secrets and lies obstruct plans and those fighting to stop it are overwhelmed and under pressure to find a solution in the gripping final instalment to the series.

I can’t believe this series is coming to an end and what an ending it was! I’ve grown to love Dahlia over this series and I really felt like I was right there with her in this story as she battled to save what remains of her new reality. Again the author wove a really exciting and engaging story that captured my attention from the very beginning and held it until the ending. I felt like Dahlia actually discovered a lot about herself in this. Although I am sad that this series is over I am definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next from them in the future.
