Love is Worth Fighting For is the third book in The Meraki series by Effie Kammenou. It is a contemporary romance with a ‘frenemies-to-lovers’ element, finding love unexpectedly, a bit of a quest, challenges/unforeseen difficulties, faith, history, connection, banter, family dynamics, drama, angst, and endearing characters.
This is Krystina’s story, whom we met in the previous books as she is Kally (Book #1) and Mia’s (Book #2) sister. She had an idea of what she wanted to achieve in her life, but fate seems to have had other ideas. Havin her annoying childhood frenemy around only adds to her frustration. But she begins to see him in another light when unexpected challenges arise and he steps up- helping her through it all. Soon feelings get involved…. and you’ll have to read the story if you want to find out what happens with Krystina and Loukas.
The story could be read as a standalone, but as there are recurring characters as well as a bridging subplot that makes this book/series even more intriguing I highly recommend reading the previous two books before starting on this one.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Effie Kammenou!

This book is book one of the series. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author but I was blown away!

Audri, despite being plagued with guilt, is the purest soul. She’s so sweet, determined, hard working. Remington is her older brothers best friend. He’s driven, intense, successful. As they spend more time together, it’s harder to ignore the chemistry. In the background, there are lots of secrets and a lot of suspense.

I could not get enough of this book! It has everything! I loved Audri’s character. She was very self-assured but also had moments of insecurity that was very relatable. Remi was so intense. The absolute definition of alpha with his inherent need to protect those close to him. I highly recommend!

This is the 3rd book in the Merkai series. This author has an amazing talent with the stories and they are so emotionally moving the reader can’t help but get swept away in the story and the lives of the characters.

In this story we join Krystina and Loukas. At first they are frenemies and have been that way since childhood. Krystina wants to travel and see new places and make her blog successful and Loukas is along for the ride.
When something happens that neither of them are prepared for Krystina finds herself facing challenges and circumstances she never dreamed possible. Will she be facing them alone?
Add to this the search she carries on for her missing grandfather. Her grandmother is certain he will return. More determined than ever to find him she is going to face challenges that she never saw coming and maybe find a deeper connection with the person who has been by her side all this time.

This story is a real emotional rollercoaster. It is such a moving story that I have been in tears following Krystina’s journey and fight. The authors writing is so beautiful that the reader feels every emotion as the characters do. Krystina is a determined character which I love but she also has a vulnerable side which is just as endearing and makes her feel human. The connection with Loukas is magical as well. Even though they start out as frenemies and he drives her wild you can feel the attraction bubbling under the surface. This story is about learning that love could be right in front of you all alone and that no matter what you go through love will always be there to help you fight.

Love is Worth Fighting for is a contemporary romance and the third instalment of The Meraki Series. This one will bring out all the feels and tissues will be needed.

This heart-breaking beautiful tale is about Krystina the youngest sister of the Andarakas family and Loukas story. It is entertaining and heart-warming with interesting characters and some beautiful settings. I love Effie’s characters they are real and raw and the ones that really make this frenemy to lovers’ story pop.

It is now Krystina’s turn to try to uncover just what happened to her grandfather and it will take everything she has to get through it but she does learn one vital thing along the way.

I highly recommend Love is Worth Fighting for; for lovers of romance stories.

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Remi and his friends are smart and savvy. Having grown up together, they spent their latter high school years designing a video game, which has kept the group tightly knit into adulthood, where they each have found success and money in their careers. But witnessing a tragic event before heading off to college hangs over their heads and continues to threaten their lives and the lives of those they love.
Audri is Remi’s best friend’s younger sister. Her knack for creative pursuits in jewelry making doesn’t pay the bills, so she works in marketing while trying to launch her jewelry career. But, a harassing boss is making her life miserable, until she fights back; the problem is her boss is the company owner’s son.
Audri has admired Remi since they were younger, but Remi seems to only like detached arrangements with the women he sees, and she’s a romantic. When they reconnect after Remi returns to his roots to acquire a new company, which just happens to be the same one Audri is working at, the two find themselves together more often and sparks ignite. But, neither are sure if it’s a good idea to pursue something together, and both must overcome their pasts if things will ever work out between them.
This book has a little bit of everything in it – loads of drama, mystery, romance, tragedy, shocking revelations, and a contrast of family dynamics. It’s a real page-turner and one of those books you’ll stay up too late reading to find out what happens next.

Effie Kammenou believes that it is never too late to chase your dreams, follow your heart, or change your career. She is proof of that. At one time, long ago, she’d hoped that by her age, she would have had an Oscar in her hand after a successful career as an actor. But instead, she worked in the optical field for forty years while raising her two daughters.

In 2015, three years after her mother died from pancreatic cancer, she published her debut novel, Evanthia’s Gift, the first book in a women’s fiction, multigenerational love story, and family saga, inspired by her mother and her Greek heritage. Kammenou continues to pick her father’s brain for stories of his family’s life in Lesvos, Greece, and their journey to America. Her interview with him was published in the nationally circulated magazine Reminisce.

Evanthia’s Gift: Book One in The Gift Saga was a 2016 finalist in the Readers Favorite Book Awards. Book two, Waiting for Aegina, was awarded finalist status in the 2019 International Book Awards. Chasing Petalouthes, the last book in the trilogy, also placed in the Readers Favorite Book Awards for the 2018 contest.

Kammenou’s latest project is The Meraki Series. Both Love is What You Bake of it and Love by Design are available now. Book three: Love is Worth Fighting for is set for its release on June 24, 2022, and is available for preorder. This series is a contemporary romance focused on three sisters and their quest for love and professional success despite their sometimes stifling and meddling family. But it wouldn’t be a Kammenou novel without delving into the past or references to mouth-watering foods. A mystery shadowed by a historical event in Greek history is slowly uncovered over the course of the three books.

As a bonus, each book contains traditional Greek recipes, many of which were passed down from her Athenian mother.

Effie Kammenou is a first-generation Greek-American who lives on Long Island. When she’s not writing or posting recipes on her food blog, aptly named Cheffie’s Kitchen, you can find her entertaining family and friends, or traveling for ‘research.’

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Arts from Hofstra University.

Mastermind: A Brothers Best Friend Romance (WaterFyre Rising Book 1) is the first I have read from author Nadia Han. I have to say it’s not your typical brother’s best friend romance and I didn’t mind that one bit. It has so much angst, suspense, and mystery upon mystery. With her always keeping you guessing writing Nadia builds a world you actually feel like you are living in. I can’t get Remi and Audri off my mind! I will definitely be reading the second in this series!!

What a great way to start the series and debut for the artist, it was a great 5 star read. I was done before I knew it.

Remi, oh Remi where to start with this main. He is a hot alpha with a dangerous streak. Due to a bad experience early on in life, he has no desire to have a relationship with a woman. But when his bestfriends sister comes back into the picture will he be able to keep his walls up?
Audris new boss is Remi, her brother’s best friend. The more time they spend together the hotter the sparks and chemistry get. Will they give into their desire?

Overall we get danger, mystery and so much more. There are several twists and turns. All of the characters added a great element to the story and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series to get to know the brothers better. I really loved both characters. I look forward to reading more from this series and author. 1-click and get started today.

Nadia did an awesome job for her debut book. Remington Starke, aka Remi is a successful business man, typical alpha male. Audri Wu is his best friends sister. She is a successful woman herself. Both Remi and Audri house their own demons and secrets. They have known each other since they were children because Remi and her brother have been best friends for as long as they can remember. Remi ends up being Audri’s boss, forcing them to come face to face again. Remi has always has feeling for Audri but she is off limits, best friends sister and all. The more time they end up spending together they just cant stay away from each other. The plot to the story was fantastic and I cant wait to see what this author does next!

I love reading books about books and bookstores! The bookstore sounds so cute and Leona is a fun character who always knows the exact book for each patron. She even wraps the books like a present because if you are buying it for yourself it is still a gift! Leona mixes up the books for Charlie and Sadie when they are checking out at the same time. Charlie was buying a book for his grandmother about an old movie star and Sadie was looking for a holiday romance. They end up finding each other the next day and go visit grandma who has dementia. She ends up loving the holiday romance and even remembers Charlie and uses his name when he comes the next day to exchange the books. Sadie and Charlie spend the day together and are instantly connected. Fiona is an author who is still trying to get over her divorce and moves into town. Her ex, a musician, is also there by coincidence and the bookstore brings them together to talk for the first time in many years. There are so many fun stories in this book, I enjoyed it a lot!

This book was such a lovely read, I really did enjoy every single minute of it. I loved how it was three stories but they were all interconnecting – they really were an absolute joy to read. I think from the title it’s obvious the bookstore is the centre for all of these stories but each one slightly different in its own way. I loved all of the characters, they were so relatable and it felt like I was reading about friends at times. There is one thing for sure with this book it definitely left me smiling once I had finished.
This is definitely a book you can settle down with on a summer evening and enjoy – it is one that I would highly recommend!

The Happily Ever After Bookstore by Bernadette Marie is a fun, sweet, touching, and delightful small-town contemporary romance. We get three stories in one here, making for lots of fun.
We meet Leona, the local bookstore owner and incorrigible matchmaker who takes it upon herself to match up the locals- but she isn’t quite so lucky finding her own ‘happily-ever-after.
With a well-meaning meddling matchmaker, second chances, new love, finding love unexpectedly, endearing characters, and a ‘feel-good’ story definitely made this one of my favourite reads by Bernadette Marie.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Bernadette Marie.

This is a story that took me on NUMEROUS ups and downs and twists and turns! It really kept me on the edge of my seat and reading late into the night. I really enjoyed all the character development as well. This is slated as a brothers best friend and billionaire boss story. I would disagree with that..oh it has a touch of those elements but I feel it is more of a romantic suspense story. Each of the lead characters has a problematic past. Remi and Audri do have that push and pull because of their joint childhood and her brother which I loved.

Overall I really enjoyed this one! I loved the characters, the dramatic suspense plus that sexy romance between the alpha male and his desired lady. One of my favorites things is the whole backstory to these boys/friends. What a wonderful idea to base these books on. I am hoping each of the guys creating the game will get a story! I am SO looking forward to it!

Cute, feel good read! I thoroughly enjoyed the book and felt like the characters were my old friends! First Maria Jane book that I have read, but certainly won’t be my last. This book is part of the ‘Perfect’ series; although each book can be read as a stand alone, I am looking forward to going back and reading the first 2 books in the series!

Bree Simmons is tired of having her heart continually broken and wonders if a perfect man truly exists! Since Bree finds it’s jocks that she seems to gravitate towards and therefore has sworn all jocks and athletes off her list of potential dates! Deciding that she was in need of a change, Bree leaves the rat race of the corporate world and accepted a job teaching high school & coaching basketball. While playing tennis, Bree encounters Nate—a handsome jock, who would normally check all Bree’s boxes. True to her word, she tells Nate that they would never be more than friends. As Bree dates other people here & there, she finds herself becoming more & more attracted to Nate and wonders if he really could be the perfect man for her!
Sweet, contemporary romance that leaves the reader rooting for their happily ever after ♥️

I already enjoyed the other book in this series so it was a no-brainer when I chose to read this one. I was looking forward to seeing who the next ‘Titan’ would be. I was excited for it to be Jonas. I have to say he was a bit of an alphahole and not in a good way but I did enjoy watching him change as his story progressed with Kenzie. Kenzie…I loved her. But your girl had some baggage she had to let go of. I loved seeing her overcome things from that her past that were causing her problems in her life. I did enjoy this story the chemistry between Jonas and Kenzie was very delicious. I definitely recommend this for a quick read.

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising Book 1) by Nadia Han – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Mastermind is a contemporary romance about a self-made brilliant billionaire, Remi. This is book 1 in the series, but it is a stand alone. Remi was a genius from a young age and a millionaire by the time he was a teen. After his mother’s death, his father remarried and life changed forever. No longer did he feel loved or wanted, but that fueled him to work hard and find a way to ensure a future for himself. It all starts with his friends (more like family to him) and him skipping school and witnessing something that they should have, but ultimately changes the course of their lives. This started a path of secrets that Remi will have to keep. In all of these successes and secrets, Remi has become seen as a dark hearted individual, however, his best friend’s sister has always seen something more. Now that they are both successful and adults, they are starting to see each other in a different light, partly due to her own demons that she holds. The two of them decide to blur the boundaries and try to find the light through all the dark that they are. Will light and dark be able to find that balance to create more than coldness, to create love?

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It gave a contemporary romance a bit of an edge and I was here for it. One, the storyline had twists and turns throughout and I loved the process of trying to figure it all out. Two, the characters were great. Remi, although has a rough exterior, was an amazing leading man. He was demanding, protective, but seeing his vulnerable side peek through you just couldn’t help but fall in love with him. Audri was just as equally amazing as the leading lady. She was driven, confident, creative, intelligent, and straight forward. Her patience and love for Remi, along with her confident, adventurous side was something we could learn from. I look forward to reading more of this series.

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The saying goes: Opposites attract, but how truly different are two people who both are scared from past traumas?

You live in the light while I live in the darkness…

Remi along with his group of friends witnessed a deed most foul, a murder. Yet it is with a stranger’s advice that the boys live to remember this life altering moment. A fear embedded into his soul that makes him the cold heart breaking man that he is now. He is her brother’s best friend.

Audri was only eight when her world was torn to pieces when a fire killed her father and pet cat Mochi. She dropped the candle before the flames engulfed the house. It is a guilt she carries to this day that she killed them. She is his best friend’s little sister.

Times are changing as Remi buys the company Audri works for. A chance encounter that has stirred up forbidden feelings between the pair. He cannot get her out of his head nor can he let anyone else have her. She sees a man of mystery with light beneath a carefully worn mask and she wants to explore his depths. Together they struggle to find each other, but will the past come back to destroy their happy ending?

The development of characters in this book will draw you in and let you feel the emotions with them. The desire they have for one another, the tension building between them, and the suspense of their story. It gives you no choice but to want to keep reading to see what will happen next. Will they finally let each other in? Will they ever get past the friend zone? What dark secrets lie in their past? Will they get a happy ending?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Mastermind is the first book in the WaterFyre Rising series and debut novel by Nadia Han. It is a brother’s best friend/billionaire boss romantic suspense. It is well woven with enough intrigue, danger, mystery, tension, chemistry, dramatic developments, angst, push-pull, agendas, and deadly secrets to keep me flipping the pages to discover how it all plays out in the end.
I loved the camaraderie between the WaterFyre men and look forward to finding out more about each one, as their stories release. This is Remi’s story, the Mastermind of WaterFyre (you’ll have to read the book to find out what WaterFyre is), billionaire businessman, and brooding alpha-male. His latest business acquisition brings him back to his hometown, with all the painful and disturbing memories associated with it. But it is also home to his best friends, and a certain woman who intrigues him on so many levels. He shouldn’t feel attracted to Audri, after all he has known her since she was a child- she’s his best friend’s sister, and therefore totally off limits. But he also happens to be her new boss, and pretty soon it is hard to ignore the chemistry that has ignited between them. But danger seems to be stalking them, and dark secrets will soon be revealed- so strap yourself in for a bit of an intense ride as all is revealed.
There were some moments where I felt the story lagged just a little, or was slowed down by ‘flashbacks’- I do understand that the author was building backstory, but I felt that some of the momentum of the story was lost at these times- but, in saying that, this issue did improve as we got further into the book- and it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.
Looking forward to ‘The Daredevil’ (Book #2), due to release in Nov 2022.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Nadia Han!

When Holly finds out my secret, I have to do whatever it takes to keep her quiet—even if it means telling the most damaging lie of all—the one I tell myself.
