I really enjoyed getting to know Miriam! I haven’t read all of Mya’s books so I know this probably isn’t her first appearance, but I liked her all the same! Mya does a great job building her characters and setting her ‘stage’.
This was a decently easy read and it had mystery and conflict in all the right places and I really enjoyed that I got almost to the end and still didn’t really know for sure where the fingers were pointing. I am not typically a paranormal reader, Mya knows this, I love her balance and structure and they way she seems to weave the characters into the world where her books take place. This was a great book, I know should go read the books in between that I haven’t had the pleasure of doing as of yet.

Matching Miriam is the first book I have read by Mya O’Malley, the cover art drew me in. I really enjoyed it, and didn’t want to put it down! It has a good balance of action, suspense thriller and a taste of romance. I love that the lead female is strong and independent, but has a soft side as well. The supporting characters are well written and the friendships/chemistry they have is very relatable. Miriam and Jesse have a past, but he moved away, putting a end to it all. When he comes back “home” they soon run into each other. It wasn’t instant reconnection, and I liked that they worked together to build the trust and relationship again. Miriam’s friend is very interesting, and I hope there is another story for her, because I think it would be a great spin off. The book has a good level of suspense, and keeps you guessing until the end. I was shocked to find out who the killer was, and did not see that coming.

This is not a new author for me. I love Mya O’Malley and her series the Maggie Trilogy was amazing. I could not wait for this book to come out. I already knew who our main character was, because I read the Maggie series. This book can be read as a standalone, but don’t do that to yourself. The main female is Miriam and she’s a detective. Our main male character is Jesse, and they are long-lost loves. This book tells their story and was worth the wait. I’m excited to see what else she’s got up her sleeve!

Matching Miriam by Mya O’Malley

I have read several books by Ms. O’Malley and throughly enjoyed each one of them and how several are connected and this one was no different. I’m not a big fan of ghosts or the paranormal but I find myself making sure I read Ms. O’Malley’s books when I see she has a new one.  Each of these can be read as a standalone but they are connected to other books and they are referenced.

Miriam is as tough as nails as they come, but when you are a female in a male dominated profession like being a Police Detective she has no choice, but we learn there is so much more to her.  She’s hunting a killer and I was floored by the ending.  Last person I expected it to be which made me like this book that much more.  I hate predictable storyline and this was anything but.

I of course loved seeing Zelda (the cat) and meeting the two kittens. Animals tend to be my favorite characters regardless,  but when their personalities are as apparent as they are in this it makes me love them more.

I want to know what happens with a few people and I’m hoping to see their story eventually, hopefully sooner than later.

This is not my first book by Mya O’Malley and it will not be my last book by her. Matching Miriam is a suspenseful crime book with a romance mixed into the plotline. The characters are relatable and I could feel myself within their circle of friends. This book kept me on my toes. There were twists and turns in the book, some I saw and some I did not see. I will say once you start reading this book you are not going to want to stop. In other words, make sure you are all set to read this book in one sitting. We have met Miriam in the Maggie series. I love when authors carry characters from other books because it is a great feeling to know that you have a little inside knowledge of the character. Miriam is a strong, tough, and a bad mama jammer. She does not back down from anything. She has landed a one of a kind case that she is focusing on, the serial killer case Decade Killer. Not only is she having this tough case but a heartthrob of her past comes back and she is trying to juggle her life. Will Miriam be able to keep her focus with all the distractions? Will she solve the Decade Killer case? Will her heartthrob throw a wrench into her investigation? I highly recommend this book.

Murder At Lolly Beach: An Eve Sawyer Mystery by Jane Suen is the second book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. This book can be read as a stand-alone.
I always look forward to starting a new boom by this author as she has such a wide variety of books that you never quite know what you are about to get.
I really enjoyed the character of Eve in this book – she was not only interesting to read about but also had depth to her which a lot of characters tend to lack.
The book was well written and had enough twists thrown in to make the book intriguing. This author has such a brilliant way of writing – anything I have ready by her I have thoroughly enjoyed and this book is no exception. I am looking forward to whatever is to come next from this author already.

I love this series, I love Eve and how she cant help but get involved when she feels needed, whether anyone likes it or not LOL

This one twisted around enough to have me all confused and even truly scared a few times at what the outcome was going to be and the who that they were looking for. The who had me questioning everything throughout the book.

I loved the friendship between Eve, Cassie, and Bob and although I was suspicious of him through much of my reading I also really liked Jake and truly hope there is more coming in the future with that friendship…

I love ANYTHING Jane Suen writes, she is one of my top one clicks, her books always make you sit and think when you finish, there is always much to sort out. She has a way of twisting things so quick you don’t even realize what’s happening.

A very quick read because when you get started you have to finish in one sitting!

I Love it, as usual and can not wait for more!!

Miriam is a badass police officer who lives in New York and has built walls around her heart, she doesn’t want it broken again, but she is wondering whether it might be worth starting to let her guard down and look at finding love again, but she doesn’t open up easily apart from with her best friend, although even she doesn’t know everything. As Miriam leaves for a run, her best friend drives past and invites her for coffee with another friend, but Miriam declines it as she knows that she isn’t needed and she wants to run, but as she is running, she is bombarded by memories of her childhood and things she has kept locked away for a long time, including her first love Jesse, normally she can banish them, but today is different and she cannot escape them. When her boyfriend asks her if she is now bringing her work home, she is not happy about it and when he tries to talk about where their relationship is going, she pulls down the shutters, she has dating demons and is scared of them rearing their heads again with him and when he goes to kiss her, she freezes and takes a step back.

Jesse is a man who needs a change of scenery, he is trying to get away from his most recent relationship after it ended and when the job opportunity in New York for a fireman he jumps at the chance, but the main reason is Miriam, he first love and someone who cannot forget no matter how he tries, he thinks about what her life is like now and whether he may be able to be a part of it again and he is damn well going to try his hardest to make that either a reality or finally get the closure he would need to move on. The next day Miriam is thinking about the kiss the night before as well as how her best friend is acting strangely, when she comes round to talk to her and what she has to say unnerves Miriam to the extreme.

Miriam is called into work when a homicide is reported and she and her partner are assigned the case, but the details of the murder are really unusual and they end up chasing their tales when they can’t put things together as they would like to be able to. As the day progresses and her boyfriend keeps calling and texting, it is starting to irritate Miriam and this makes her think about Jesse even more. Meanwhile, Jesse is struggling to get Miriam out of his head, so when he decides to go for a run, he is shocked to run into Miriam who is also out for one, but when she trips and falls, Jesse insists on seeing her home to make sure that she is ok, the emotions which swirl around them are more than they can handle, so she makes Jesse leave.

As the case develops and things do start falling into place, things are strained for Miriam, between Jesse reappearing, the things her best friend has been telling her and the situation with her boyfriend and the fact that there is a murderer on the loose, she doesn’t know if she is coming or going and things just keep getting stranger, but will they solve the case, or will the things that have been foretold come to pass? Can Miriam solve all the problems in her life, or will they all coalesce to bring her down?

If you like trying to solve a crime with a dash of romance and a bit of the supernatural sprinkled in for good measure, this is the book for you and it will suck you in.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is not my first book by Amy McKinley because the books McKinley writes keeps me guessing, keeps me entertained and keeps me coming back for more. This new series is not any different. The characters are engaging and fun to read about. Poor Riley, if she didn’t have all the bad luck possible, she wouldn’t have any luck at all. Enter Xander. He has his share of crap as well. But as fate would have it, these two meet and try to change their luck.
This story is the first in a new series which does reference another of McKinley’s series, The Gray Ghost Novels. But can be read without reading the other series (but you really should). Warning: this story isn’t overly sexy, but the adventure part is a little…extra. Also, this story has unanswered questions so book 2 is a must.

When you are on the biggest case of your life, in walks a complication to life. Will Miriam be able to concentrate on her job as well as trying to understand were her lover fits into her life.

Miriam is a sassy, independent woman who is a tough New York cop, but when she is given the biggest case of her life she puts 110% into finding the decades old serial killer. As she investigates a lot of herself is drawn into the case and will she have anything left to try and sort her heart out from years ago.

Jesse has had his fair share of broken hearts but the one that has really hurt him the most, is the person he hopes he may be able to avoid with his new job in New York but when they do finally meet all the feels come flooding back even stronger but will be able to break the wall around his heart and give love a second chance.

I have to say that all the books by this author hit the mark and are well written and the characters are excellently developed and this book does not disappoint. I loved the glance’s of Miriam in the Maggie Series but never thought she would be brought to her full glory in her own book.

The chemistry between Jesse and Miriam from their first interaction has you salivating that this will be a full emotional encounter and they really compliment each other perfectly, then add in the suspense and thrilling storyline of the serial killer within the story and this leaves you wanting more, with questions that are still circling around in my head.

I would love to read more stories evolving Miriam and fingers crossed more will be released in the future. This is a great thriller with twists and turns and a great book you can’t put it down.

This was one of those books that you can sit and read, while drinking a cup of coffee, and get lost in the story.
Miriam is a detective in New York. She has been given a recent murder case that seems as though it could be the work of a serial killer. Miriam is dedicated to her job, and running, because it allows her mind to be clear and keep her past out. However, her past will be more than in her mind when her first love reappears in her life once again. She must focus on her case, though, because her best friend believes she is in danger.
Jesse is starting his new job as a firefighter in New York and is hoping to see Miriam once again so he can get the closure he never got. However, once reunited, instead of closure there is a spark of hope. He wants to be the man to keep Miriam safe…but from what? Or who?
There is so much going on in this story…the chasing of a killer, a man who can’t seem to get over a relationship that was just at the beginning stages, a best friend who talks to ghosts and sees the future, and an encounter with a ghost that has Jesse opening his eyes to believing in spirits.
This book was enjoyable and I finished it all in one sitting. I needed to know what was going to happen. I was pulled in by the spiritual elements. Over, a good story.

I loved this story. I have read several books by this author but this is by fair my favourite. It contains elements I love in a book, romance, murder mystery and paranormal. I especially loved how the author leads you to think the murderer is one person to then switch it around and keep you guessing.

Miriam is a police officer. She is a strong confident women in her job but in her relationships she is closed off. All due to having the love of her life break her heart years ago. She closed herself off and couldn’t trust again.

Jesse is the love of her Miriam’s life and he returns to their home town looking for closer. What he doesn’t expect is for their connection to be as strong as it was all those years ago.

Miriam has a lot going on in her life though. With a murderer on the loose and having her as a target she can’t be distracted by these emotions and feelings.

Will they realise they are meant to be? Will Miriam be able to solve the case before she becomes a victim? And who along the way will make an appearance to help guide them?

I was so stinking excited to get my hands on Matching Miriam by Mya O’Malley. I loved her books featuring paranormal and grit with Naomi and was even more stoked to see her pop up in this novel. I knew this was going to be a story that consumed my energy and time as I read it so I curled up with a good drink and blanket and dove right in. It was wonderful, more than I had hoped following Miriam as she found her way through this stage of her life. This book included more of the mystery with Miriam being a detective. I liked the undertones of romance between her and the ex that comes back into her life at the worst possible time, or best, depending on how you look at it. I loved how I literally could not put this down until I knew how things would unfold and finally end up for Miriam. I hope and pray we get more of her because this book was amazing and I really fell in love with the characters. This is the story of Riley Evans and Xander Hale, she is a grad student and works in a coffee shop, he is a SEAL who is on leave after a medical procedure to remove shrapnel from his shoulder after his latest mission took a turn for the worse and a last minute change of plan meant that one of his brothers in arms was killed. He is not happy and when he finds out that he guy who was leading the team has also stolen his girlfriend, he is in no shape to go on missions, so he is made to go on a further few weeks of leave and he decides to make the most of it and do some renovations on his families homes on a nearby island.

Next Riley is at the coffee shop and about to start her shift, she greets a customer, a customer who has become a friend over the time she has been frequenting her coffee shop while she writes her books and complains that the other servers get her order wrong, unlike Riley. She chats with a coworker as she finishes her shift about the pizza get together she missed because of her homework and about a customer, she also hints that she has had some books published herself under a pen name. As she delivers the customer’s order, Riley is intrigued by the book she is reading and asks about it, it turns out that her coworker recommended it and that it is a really good one, Riley considers getting a copy for herself, just as a customer is putting it away, the book, a pair of designer sunglasses fall out of her bag, Riley picks them up for her, compliments her on them and then gets back to serving coffee until a new customer peaks her interest.

As Xander is heading to the local hardware store to buy what he needs for the renovations, while he thinks about how it would be nice if he could find someone to have a relationship with like the one his parents have, but he doesn’t think that it is something which will happen, he also thinks about his friend who was killed, that is until he hears a voice which calls to him from inside the coffee shop he is passing, this is where he sees a woman who looks like his type and he feels a connection to her which he cannot explain, so he goes inside and when he locks eyes with her, he knows she is something special. Riley has no idea how to react when she is face to face with this gorgeous man who has just walked in, so she serves him and when he starts to flirt with her, she has to put some distance between them or she would lose her mind, so when she serves him his black coffee and when her boss shouts that it is on the house, she asks him who it was, little does she know that this isn’t going to be the last time that they bump into each other.

A few days later, Riley is exhausted after working a double shift and exercising to chase away her demons in her nightmares, she is heading to the hardware store and when she steps through the doorway, she slams straight into the guy from the coffee shop, she apologises and then has the most awkward conversation with him, until he asks her to lunch, she tells him she has a boyfriend, but he counters with he would just like her company, so she agrees to go. This time the conversion isn’t as awkward and they have a good time and as they say goodbye, her mind wanders to her boyfriend and how they were arguing more and he seemed distant and when he cancels on her by text, she is even less impressed. When he calls her up demanding to know where she is her hackles raise and she tells him that she didn’t agree to go see him, he makes his excuses for not spending time with her and blames it on her as usual, but when she gets home and sees that her front door is open, she has something else to worry about, but she is late for a shopping trip with her friend and so she tries not to think about it while they have a girls afternoon together.

As the days pass, Riley begins to wonder why she is even with her boyfriend, how everything is on his terms and how he seems to act like she is just a warm body and nothing else, she is also thinking about Xander and how it is so easy and different while she is spending time with him and eventually makes the decision to break up with him, but when he refuses to give up on her and someone breaks into her apartment again, she has to get the police involved and things start to take a more sinister turn, including her night terrors and the past memories they bring with them. Can her and Xander’s budding relationship develop while her past is threatening to tear them apart and who is breaking into her apartment, is it her ex, or someone else? The only way to find out the answers is to read along with this thrilling adventure which twists and turns so much, you won’t know until the very end what will happen.

Riley and Xander are interesting characters. They have a depth to them that a lot of characters lack and it all adds to their story. They are the kind of characters that you can’t help but get behind from the get go.
The story itself was quite a quick read but thoroughly enjoyable. I connected with the story easily and found that I read it in no time at all. Twisted SecretsTwisted Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Twisted Secrets is the first book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops series by Amy McKinley. This book sets the series off to superb start with wonderful characters, an exciting storyline full of action, danger, violence, drama, sizzle, intrigue, tension, mystery, suspense, adventure, family dynamics, banter, humour, finding love unexpectedly, and romance. It is a bit of a spin-off from the Gray Ghosts series- so I am excited to see where it will all lead.
After a mission goes awry, Xander is forced to take some down-time to recover. He has had a string of bad luck lately- including the failed mission, and his girlfriend dumping him. He also can’t seem to shake the suspicious feeling that there was more to the failed mission than what they were led to believe.
Riley is a grad student working as a barista in a local coffee shop, to make ends meet. When her relationship ends badly, and strange things begin to happen- Xander is there to yank her to safety. Will he be able to keep her safe? And will he figure everything out? This is well worth the read to find out.
Riley and Xander were such great characters, and I really enjoyed following along on their adventure. I loved how Ms. McKinley wove a spicy romance through a wonderfully suspenseful tale- including all the mystery surrounding Xander’s failed mission and his SEAL team. The underlying storyline looks set to continue into the next book/rest of the series- so I am really looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us in the next instalment.
Another completely engrossing and intriguing read- with all the intensity, sparks, chemistry, tension, and dramatic developments I have come to expect from Ms. McKinley!

Thank you, Amy McKinley!

Matching Miriam by Mya O’Malley – Review by Angela Hayes

Matching MiriamMatching Miriam by Mya O’Malley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“She had always thought the worst thing that could happen was to get attached to someone and then have your heart broken when they left or otherwise betrayed you. She slowly began to wonder if there was something far worse than that. Was being afraid to take a risk, to take a chance at love and friendship, far worse? The old adage, it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, rang through her head.”

Matching Miriam by Mya O’Malley definitely makes for some engrossing reading. I have explored many of Ms. O’Malley’s books now and can always count on her to deliver a great story. This is a suspenseful crime story, woven with mystery, tension, drama, intrigue, romance, and more.
We have met Miriam previously in the Maggie Trilogy/series. She is Naomi’s neighbour and good friend- but most importantly she is a dedicated, tough, kick-@$$ cop who is now working on the toughest case of her career- tracking down the Decade Killer. This is one wily serial killer, and Miriam will find herself tested in more ways than one. Especially when her former love returns to town. Juggling matters of the heart with tracking down a serial killer won’t be easy- leaving us guessing what will happen next, the whole way through.
Looking forward to whatever Ms. O’Malley does next- she never disappoints!

Thank you, Mya O’Malley!
