Riley and Xander – what a ride! This latest book from McKinley was a great read and one I quickly ran through. Quick pace, action, suspense, tension – I appreciated the character development and found Riley and Xander to be compelling characters. Really enjoyed this book and in general love reading the books McKinley writes. Definitely recommend!

Matching Miriam by Mya O’Malley – Review by Karyn Taylor

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Matching Miriam is a great psychological thriller by Mya O’Malley. I had first read Mya O’Malley’s books when I read her Maggie series and was even more delighted when I started reading this when I realised that this book includes Naomi who was the main character from the Maggie series.
While this book does not contain the large paranormal content of the Maggie series there is still an inkling of the paranormal in this book.
I loved the main character Detective Miriam Marty. She’s feisty and takes absolutely no nonsense from anyone, so when her ex Jesse comes back into her life she’s totally thrown and struggling to deal with him. Then, when Naomi tells her that she sees great danger coming her world is totally changed.
This is a great psychological thriller that I absolutely loved reading. Mya O’Malley does an amazing job of keeping the reader totally hooked on the story and on the edge of their seats, wondering what’s going to happen to Miriam next. Is she really in as much danger as Naomi thinks she is? Is she willing to let Jesse back into her life and help keep her safe?
I’d definitely recommend this book. The characters are very well written and the story flows extremely well, carrying you along on a journey that you won’t want to get off.

Matching Miriam by Mya O’Malley

This is the first book I’ve read by the author and I loved it! If you love crime with a twist then this is the book for you!

Miriam is a cop who is now looking for a decade killer. Her neighbor and good friend tells her that she had a vision ending in Miriam’s life. When an ex comes back into the picture it changes things. The quote I chose for Miriam is: “We can rest on the plane ride home tomorrow morning. Right now I want to talk to Kevin. I have a killer on my tail, the sooner we solve this case, the sooner I can relax without thinking someone will come up from behind me and stick a knife in my back.”

Jesse is back in town and he wants to see Miriam. He’s still in love with her and doesn’t want to let her go. The quote I chose for Jesse is: “We should probably start heading back. I need to get some cat food and a litter box and then get Josie over to Miriam’s place.”

Highly recommended for crime lovers.

What happens when Detective Miriam Marty shields her heart from the past and comes face to face with a serial killer? The plain and simple answer is trouble; but with Miriam Marty, there’s always more to the story and it’s never simple.
Miriam bleeds integrity with a tough as nails exterior that permits only a few trusted people inside of her world. After spending years building up the walls that have sheltered Miriam from her past, Jesse, the only man she’s ever loved, makes an unexpected return back to Miriam’s home town.
Jesse has acquired all of the necessary skills for keeping relationships at bay. His new job as a fireman finds him returning to a place he once called home. What should be a sentimental homecoming turns into disaster for his heart when he finds old feelings stirred up, stronger than ever, for Miriam.
Miriam questions her own sanity as sleepless nights find her hunting the Decade Hunter, believing it to be the most challenging case of her career. She soon discovers that resisting Jesse at every turn proves even more difficult than the daunting task of chasing down a serial killer at large.
In plain sight lies the façade of a man who has played them all for fools, educating Miriam on a lesson she’s failed miserably at in her past–trust. Trust, not only in the game of love, but in laying one’s trust down in the safe cocoon we all find comfort in –only to have it blown apart in a heartbeat.

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills Book 1) by Sonya Jesus – Review by Colleen Noyes

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills, #1)The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love a good suspense thriller and this book was so on target! The author did an incredible job of weaving the story from beginning to end. There was suspense, murder, mystery, relationships, twists and much more with the turn of every page. The story revolves around a tragedy involving two officers and how they are trying to find their way back to each other, but what the reader doesn’t know is all the little hidden secrets and clues that are woven beautifully. This author is absolutely incredible with her writing style that felt like several of the “big” names out there, like Patterson or Grafton. I was beyond blown away and will automatically make her a one click author moving forward. My only complaint is how fast will the next one be up to grab lol. If you enjoy reading a good suspense novel, with twists, turns, and who done it, that have well developed characters, and a brilliant writing style then you will want to grab this one right away!

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 2) by India Kells

Sloane plays the loner well, she is so used to it and isn’t sure what to do when someone tries to help her out.  She takes on so much instead of allowing her team to step in and help her which in her line of work is stupid .

Luke is the sexy professor and if I were in college I would definitely take his class no matter the subject.   He has knowledge that Sloane and her team needs to continue tracking how Phantom is being brought into Chicago.

There were some incredibly hot moments all through the book, but holy cow that first was smoking.

I have really enjoyed the first two books in this series and I’m looking forward to the next installment.

This book is awesome! India Kells has done it again! Urban Justice is the second book in the Chicago Vigilante series. This book follows vigilante Sloane Friday. Ms. Friday is a pretty badass former police officer who wants nothing more than to shut down the Phantom drug operation. In order to do so she needs the help of Professor Luke Radcliff. Luke is a former Marine with a superior knowledge of Chicago’s underground tunnels. What they don’t expect is the serious attraction they have for each other. This book is a continuation of the first novel and just like the first one it’s so good! It’s such an easy read and it is also so easy to get sucked into the adventure of taking down this drug. All you want to do is continue to read it to find out what happens. There are so many twists and turns that keep you guessing. The sexy scenes are incredibly hot! You honestly can’t put this book down! I truly can’t wait for the next book!

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 2) by India Kells – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel #2)Urban Justice by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In this second installment of the Chicago Vigilantes novels it is the story of Sloane Friday, a fiery ex cop with bright pink hair and a chequered history, which is all being brought back to her as she takes her turn as the Vigilante, and continues the fight against the drug that is Phantom and it’s suppliers. The death toll is rising higher and the hospitals are full of patients who have been affected by Phantom, but have not succumbed to it’s deadly influence.

It begins underground with Luke Radcliffe doing some urban exploration in a familiar set of tunnels with a friend of his, that is until he gets sick of him complaining and offers him a get out clause, after he leaves, Luke continues on until he hears shouts and gunfire in the tunnels. Thinking quickly, he tries the door and when he finds it stuck, he goes to find an alternative entrance to the control room above, when he does, he finds the Vigilante facing off against three armed individuals and remembering his military background in the Marines, he takes a shot at the one who is creeping behind the Vigilante and then quickly makes his exit from the tunnels, just before he gets out, the Vigilante catches up with him and nods an acknowledgement before blending back into the shadows.

We next see Sloane removing the Vigilante suit at their command center and get’s a dressing down from her boss regarding her antics in the tunnels and how she isn’t invincible, but is still a vital member of the team and Sloane explains her thinking behind the risk and the consequences of her actions. This leads the conversation to her mystery saviour in the tunnels and whether they had found out who he is and what he was doing there, but the only shot of the license plate is unreadable and they are back to square one, however, they did discover that there was a professor at the local university, Professor Luke Radcliffe who knows a lot about the underground tunnels and may have an idea of whether they could be the way that the traffickers are moving the Phantom around.

The next day Sloane dons a wig and goes to the university to talk to the professor and attend one of his lectures, but first she decides to go to his office and have a look around, then realising the time, she leaves and heads to the lecture hall, but not before running into someone, they apologise to each other and head their own way thinking nothing more of the encounter, that is until they realise that they are in the same lecture hall. After the lecture has finished, Sloane stays back to talk to the professor and ask for his help, he politely declines, but Sloane leaves her card and asks him to contact her if he changes his mind. This is where Sloane and Friday meet for the first time, but as the situation changes and they realise that Luke is in more danger than he knows and that they will have to work together in order to attain the goals which they set themselves, this is where attraction and feelings come into play to make things just a little bit more complicated.

Will they be able to work together and successfully navigate the darkness surrounding them, or will the darkness separate and destroy them and those around them? This action packed thrill ride with a splash of romance added in, will leave you not wanting to put the book down until you know how it ends, another addictive installment without a doubt.

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel #2)Urban Justice by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found this novel to be an enjoyable and engaging read and the storyline and plot had me hooked from start to finish. The story is full of drama, action, suspense, violence and romance which made this a real fast paced, action packed page turner. Although book two in the ‘A Chicago Vigilantes Novel’ series it can be read as a standalone story, however I enjoyed the exciting first book in the series. In ‘Urban Justice’, Chicago is being dragged even deeper into darkness and the fearless ex cop Sloane Friday works with a few other select men to help guard her new home, as the Vigilante. When the deadly drug Phantom continues to spread claiming innocence life’s each night Sloane asks former Marine Professor Luke Radcliffe for help. Luke thought he had left behind the world of violence but as he is dragged back into the underground world of the criminals he discovers and admires the unique team of Vigilantes who are fighting in the shadows. As Luke and Sloane come together to save the people of Chicago they put their own lives in danger. The more time they spend together the more difficult they find it to deny their attraction to one another. As love blossoms between them in the darkness and violence that surrounds them the couple wonder if they can ever have a future together. The chemistry between Sloane and Luke literally sizzled off the page and the author really made the main characters come alive. Due to the descriptive narrative the setting was also bought to life and I felt fully immersed in the underground world of the Vigilantes. This was an exciting read and I look forward to future books in this series.

This is book 2 in A Chicago Vigilantes Series. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one. The story is faced paced and full of action as well as steamy hot attraction. It keeps you gripped from beginning to end.

Sloane Friday used to be a cop in her pervious life until she left and become part of the Vigilantes protecting Chicago from all the dangers and stopping a lethal drug called Phantom from being released.
After Mr White gets away Sloane  is on a mission to discover how they are transporting the drug around the city. She thinks the tunnels underground maybe the answer. But with little knowledge of them she needs a professional to help.

Lucian is an ex marine turned professor. He knows the tunnels like the back of his hand and is just the guy Sloane  needs to help with her mission.

Will Lucian agree to help her? Will he accept the risks helping her will  bring? Is the attraction between them to dangerous for them to pursue?

This book is full of twists and turns which neither of them expect.

However, it could be read out of order. They are great quick books, and you won’t want to put them down. This book is filled with a good mix of romance, action, suspense, and justified violence. I like that the female lead, Sloane, is an awesome strong bad @$$ woman! She is an ex cop, and holds her own against the men. She is on a mission and rocks it! I love the sense of mystery that builds throughout the story between Sloane and Luke. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. This is the second book in the two-book series. I have enjoyed both books, but I think that I like the second book slightly more. India Kells has been my go-to author when I am looking for a juicy book to read. The action and adventures pulled me in from the beginning. I kept turning the pages and I had to read this in one sitting. The book is about a group of crimefighters that are a Vigilante group. The leader is a woman, Sloane who happens to be a police officer who works with this group. They are out to get the Phantom who is terrorizing Chicago. There may be a love relationship steaming between Sloane and one of the vigilante members. Can Sloane and the Vigilante stop the Phantom? Will they be the group that keeps Chicago safe? I highly recommend reading this book to find out the answers to these questions and much more.

Lies That Bind (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 6)Lies That Bind by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lies that Bind is the first book I have read by Valerie Davisson. It is book 6 in the Logan McKenna series, which I didn’t know until the end. While it can be read as a stand alone, you probably should read the series. I was really overwhelmed the first 1/4 of the book with all the characters. There is a lot going on, and so so many people. Once I pieced together who was who, and was related, it all started to click. Even still, there is a lot going on in this story, but it all comes together in the end. You just need to stick it out until the end to have the ahhh ha moment. I was impressed with the author’s writing style. She had 2 stories going, one from the past, and one current. It seemed 2 very different stories, but then it all came together. The story line is one of jealousy that leads to deadly rage more than once. I recommend this book, and look forward to reading more in the series.

Urban Justice by India Kells is the second book in the Chicago Vigilantes series and was a great read! This book was captivating from the first chapter, and was a great sequel to the first novel. This book is part of a series, but I found it works well as a stand alone novel. You don’t necessarily need to know the events in the first book to follow along with this one, although it does help a bit. The characters were great and the story was amazing. I still can’t decide whether I liked the first book better or this one, they were both so good! This was a great edition to the series and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Lies That Bind (Logan McKenna Series Book 6) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Jennifer Wolbeck

Lies That Bind (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 6)Lies That Bind by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Lies That Bind is a murder mystery that spans multiple generations. Set in a small town off the coast of Oregon, the story opens with the death of an heiress to the oldest and most prestigious hotel in the area. Follow Logan McKenna, a newcomer to Oregon, as she and her friends try to make sense of the heiress’s death, and Frankie Collins, the founder of The Collins Hotel and family fortune. I enjoyed following the dual narratives of Logan in the 21st century and Frankie’s story from the 1930’s, and I felt like the novel’s structure and concept is executed well enough to provide a good read. However, I preferred Frankie’s side of the story, and I found myself reading through Logan’s storyline just to get back to reading about the events of the past. I didn’t develop any particular attachment to Logan’s plot or her character. Overall, Lies That Bind is a good murder mystery that explores the themes of family, death and greed.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read the previous books in the ‘Logan McKenna Series’ and enjoyed them I was looking forward to this novel and was not disappointed. I personally think that the series has just got better and better. We are back with our heroine Logan McKenna, who along with Ben is buying a fixer-upper on the Oregon coast. Logan and her half-sister, Olivia who she has never met before investigate when Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Collins is found drowned in the pool of her family’s Depoe Bay hotel, ‘The Collins’. The police focus their investigation on Wade Ellis, Charlie’s fiancé who had both means and opportunity along with motive and no alibi. However, as Logan starts to dig she uncovers secrets and lies that bind the Collins and Ellis families together. Logan needs to uncover the truth before the murderer kills again. As usual I was hooked from page one by this page turner of a novel. The storyline flows well and the plot has plenty going on in it to keep the reader happily turning the pages. Logan is a great main character who really brings the story together and I liked the new addition of her half sister Olivia and the dynamic between the two of them bought another element to the story. The author has away of bringing both the characters and the setting alive through her detailed narrative which made me feel immersed in the story. Addressing the themes of mental illness gave more depth and realism to the story. I was gripped until the last page and I look forward to the next book in the series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It still baffles me that I can be six books into a series and still just as invested as I was in book one. I really think that Valerie Davisson knocks it out of the park with the Logan McKenna series and book six, Lies That Bind, is no exception. I have enjoyed watching Logan as she navigates work and life and her overall character progression but what I really enjoy is the subject matter, mental illness, lies etc. woven in each storyline. Lies That Bind is a story that keeps you interested from start to finish. As I am sure I have mentioned in the past, the Logan McKenna series and Lies That Bind can be read as standalone books. I personally have read the series in order and prefer to know the tiny details or connections that may pop up along the way. Regardless, this is a great 4 star read I would definitely recommend.

Lies That Bind: A Logan McKenna Mystery #6 (Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson

Davisson has outdone herself once again. Every Logan McKenna novel gets more interesting as you read. Davisson knows what she’s doing when writing these books.

Logan McKenna is buying a vacation house. What she doesn’t expect is to be dragged into yet another investigation. Her half sister finds the dead body and now Logan wants to know more.

Logan knows she should stay out of it, but she can’t. When the owner of the house shows up then things start getting complicated. The quote I chose for Logan is: “That was nice of you, offering to help Wade like that, but don’t you have a job to get back tobin New York?”

Highly recommended for crime lovers!
