Night Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 1) by India Kells – Review by Lisa Helmick

Night JusticeNight Justice by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Holy Smokes! This is another thrilling ride told perfectly by India Kells! There is friendship and camaraderie. Action, Suspense and some hot sexy scenes. I loved it all! I couldn’t put this down always wondering how it would end and would they ever really know each other. Orla is exactly what she portrays herself as. A hot shot journalist. The way she pieces things together…she is a great puzzler. She is strong mentally and isn’t afraid to always take that next step toward her success. Crazy steps at times but she still takes them.

I love this introduction to the Noctem group. It’s a break away from Purgatory, if you have read previous books by this author. This is a wonderful crew. Bad and yet good all at the same time. There is great interaction between them all. I almost like the hacker the best so far but the thief is no slouch. He is so stoic but yet seems to have a charming side.

This is an action filled start to a new series. I can’t wait to learn more about this crew and the men and women who will take them down a notch. I look forward to the next!

A High Price to Pay (The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 2) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Sara Oxton

A High Price to Pay (Madeline Dawkins, #2)A High Price to Pay by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A High Price to Pay by Cynthia Hamilton a feisty four-star read. This is number two in the Madeline Dawkins series and I would say that it is best to read them in order, I did and I enjoyed them that way as I didn’t feel lost at all reading the second story. This is a great whodunnit and it kept me guessing, I did guess right at first but then thought I didn’t and then just got so wrapped up in the story that I didn’t truly care. This has so many strings to the story, but the author does a great job of keeping it all together and plaiting them together to make a story that is easy to follow and really fun to read. If you like a mystery, then this is one for you. I only gave it four as there were a couple of bits that annoyed me but overall, it was very good.

And The River Runs Deep: The Cold Case Murder Mystery of Leah Marcus by A.J. Ullman – Review by Angela Hayes

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

And the River Runs Deep: The Cold Case Murder Mystery of Leah Marcus is a cleverly crafted and intriguing novel by A.J Ullman. This is my first read from Mr. Ullman- and after venturing into his ‘world’, I am happy to say that it won’t be the last.
I was drawn to the book by the title, as I am a true crime junkie. I snatched up a copy and dove right in. I soon discovered that this isn’t a ‘true crime’ story, but in fact a fictional account that’s written so incredibly well, with all the ‘realism’, investigative elements, police procedural, and forensic details- that there were times I forgot this wasn’t ‘real’.
Mr. Ullman’s attention to detail and meticulousness gave this story so much authenticity, intrigue, suspense, mystery, and drama. I was so caught up in the details and events, that I lost all sense of time and place- riveted in the story for an afternoon. And that is really all you could ask for from an author, and story.
So, if you love true crime, intriguing storylines, unputdownable stories, and shocking twists- then this is definitely the book for you!
I am happily looking forward to exploring more of Mr. Ullman’s work!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, A.J Ullman!

How (Stalker Series Book 3) by Megan Mitcham – Review by Lisa Helmick

How (Stalker Series, 3)How by Megan Mitcham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can easily say this one is my FAVORITE of the series! The author nailed it! Strong female and a Silent male. Haha. Just kidding. (Silent male..) Libby is the FBI agent of this group of girls. She is a no nonsense woman who has had to make her way in a male dominated job. She pushes harder and works faster which make her a strong female lead. We have heard about her sexy neighbor whom she won’t make contact with in past books. Well she finally gets her chance! But he doesn’t talk…oh he speaks well enough…with his silence and stares. As more encounters happen I find I really REALLY like him. He has secrets he isn’t ready to share, he is super duper sexy and he loves animals. Need I say more? He is a great book boyfriend.

I love getting to see all the girls from the previous stories as well as their menfolk. Seeing them all hanging out is a treat.

Overall I LOVED this story! It’s fast paced and I could hardly put it down because I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Would she survive her stalker, would her neighbor finally talk to her or would her cat ever like her? The suspense killed me!

I highly recommend this as it’s going on my favorites list!

This is the second book in the Madeline Dawkins series and and its a great book.

After all the trauma cause to Madeline in the first book by her ex husband, she is back as a trained P.I with her close friend Mike.

She also still runs her event co-ordinator job as well. Her next job sees her planning a 3 day party for a famous client. However, things arent as rosy as they seem when the clients mother-in-law seeks Madelines help to find the person responsible for stealing her precious jewellery.
With both businesses taking off Madeline certainly has her hands full.

An added complication occurs when one of the men who was part of the plan that kidnapped her is released only to be found dead days later. Is the man that escaped justice Usherwood back getting his revenge on the people who turned him in and will Madeline be next on his hit list.

Its a great story that keeps you hooked and guessing. It has a strong and independent female main character which is nice.

And The River Runs Deep: The Cold Case Murder Mystery of Leah Marcus by A.J. Ullman. I LOVED this book. Its a crime mystery based on a true story. Its the story of the murder of Leah Marcus and how her boyfriend at the time Damon Allbright was tried for the offense. 10 years after the crime, the crime reporter of the Cincinnati Tribune who covered the case wants to reopen the case. He’s determined to find out what really happened. Leah was a 17 year old wealthy white girl who wanted to be a pediatric neurosurgeon and was amazing on the piano. Damon was the all star point guard at their high school, had an amazing singing voice and was African American. His father was the Pastor at one of the major Baptist Churches in town. Leah was murdered and raped, beat up and strangled and when Damon was taken in for questioning the whole town went nuts. There were race riots and when Damon’s DNA was found in Leah’s body they charged him with the crime. Will the reporter find out what really happened to Leah and will Damon be freed? Will this crime tear up this city? This book is amazing and warning it will keep you reading until you are finished!

How (Stalker Series, 3)How by Megan Mitcham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

How is the 3rd book in the Stalker Series by Megan Mitcham. I have to say that this is my favourite book in the series and that’s high praise indeed as I adored the first two books in the series. Before reading this series I had never read any of Megan Mitcham’s work but this series has definitely gained her a new fan.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning and it kept a very tight grip of me throughout. I was totally engrossed in this story. It was so well written and the story flowed very well, with twists and turns that keep the reader totally gripped.
I have absolutely loved the group of 4 women that this series revolves around and it was great to see what the others are up to and how all their lives intertwine.
This particular book centres around FBI agent Libby Irish and her elusive, very attractive, neighbour who has never uttered a single word to her. As the story progresses we start to see a very different side to the neighbour as Libby’s life becomes more in danger from her stalker.
The author throws a few curveballs at you and really takes you on an amazing journey filled with mystery, danger and intrigue.
I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could. I definitely recommend this book. Infact, I recommend the whole series. It’s one I will read again.

HIT AND RUN by Diane Hester – Review by Michelle Austin

Hit and RunHit and Run by Diane Hester
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hit and Run by Diane Hester was a great 5 star read.
Once I started I was pulled right in.

Raina had a creepy experience while driving home from the movies, she had been thinking about how her life has been the past 10 years when she accidentally hit a man with her car.
The man pulled a gun on her and had her drive him away from the scene. When the man passes out she ends up abandoning her car with him in it. When she finds out the next day the man is dead her life starts to spiral out of control.

We meet a couple of other characters Alec and Erin who added so much more to this story. These three find out they are intertwined in the same scary situation. There is so much more to this read but I don’t want to give anything away. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. We get murder, abduction, twits and turns and so much more. All of the characters were great. This is my first read from this Author and I loved it. If you like a suspenseful book that pulls you right in then this is the book for you. 1-click and get started today.

HIT AND RUN by Diane Hester – Review by Joanne Ellis

Hit and RunHit and Run by Diane Hester
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Raina Wilkins is forced to go on the run with a wanted killer and a homeless teen with a very deadly secret……… and until that point, she had thought she had very little to live for.
Driving from the woods in Maine, Raina hits a man, thinking it is an animal, who darts straight in front of her.
From that moment on that stranger climbs in her car, which forces her to drive on at gunpoint. Terrified with the gun pointed at her face, she did as she was asked.

Shortly after, however, this stranger gets out and disappears back into the forest.. Thinking she will never see him again after that, Alec DeMarco has left something behind when he left.
This something, others would absolutely kill to possess it.

When Alec returns to claim this, Raina is then swept into a world of conspiracy, murder and abduction. A world where even the police want her dead. Not knowing who she could trust, her life was in constant danger.

This book was a real page turner and you could feel the tension on each page. A fantastic thriller, with twists and turns keeping you guessing throughout. Raina has a troubled past which comes back to haunt her, and as a reader, you feel really involved in her character.
A definite must read.

Hit and RunHit and Run by Diane Hester
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Hit and Run by Diane Hester, 5 stars.

I was blown away by just how good this book was. This author is new to me and I didn’t really know what to expect. It is gripping from the very beginning and does not let go until the end. It honors the masters of suspense with a story that twists and turns, not letting you off the ride or letting you know just where you’ll go next. To make it more compelling, the story is so complex. You think it’s about one thing, oh but wait, this is going on too. Oh and is that person good or bad?

The story is amazing, thrilling and gripping written by an artist with imagination and the characters are believable and you really feel for them. I would love to see more of them in the future, especially Erin. If you are a fan of gripping thrillers, this book is definitely for you.

I could not put this book down once I started reading it. This story is full of twists and turns and is full of action. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next and trying to figure out who the good guys were and who’s not. Raina has worked really hard to change who she was when she was younger and keep to herself, even though the past still haunts her. On the way home from a movie one night she hits a man with her car and her world gets turned upside down, and now she doesn’t know who she can trust. I became completely invested in these characters. This is definitely a must read. The author wrote a very suspenseful gripping story and I cannot wait to read more books from this author. I highly recommend this book!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hit and Run was the first book I have read by Diane Hester and she really exceeded my expectations. The only way to find new writers to love is to take a chance but that doesn’t prevent me from being skeptical each time I stray from my typical to be read pile. The storyline captured me from the very first page and kept my attention through each twist and turn. Not only was Hit and Run captivating, it had a cast of characters you really find yourself growing “close” to and really loving. Hit and Run had every element that I look for in a book and remained as intriguing as it’s synopsis eluded. If Diane Hester has more writing like Hit and Run, I truly look forward to reading more of her work. I would definitely recommend this book to family and friends and award it 4 stars.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A High Price to Pay (Madeline Dawkins Mysteries Book 2) by Cynthia Hamilton is the follow up book to Spouse Trap, it does refer back to some of the events in that book so I would recommend that readers make sure that they have read it first to fully appreciate the story. In A High Price to Pay, Madeline has recently received her P.I licence and, along with her friend and colleague Mike, are ready to start taking cases. Unfortunately for Madeline her first case is a bit close to home. The mother in law of her biggest client from her event planning business asks her to investigate some missing items from her home. However, the case is not as clear cut as it first seems. At the same time a threat from Madeline’s past has resurfaced and it making his ominous presence known. Madeline is not only facing the toughest case of her career so far; she is also watching over her shoulder in fear of her safety. I thoroughly enjoyed this book; I love the development of the characters and the twists in the story. Perfect for anyone who likes a good mystery.

The books in this series can be read as standalones but why wouldn’t you read them all because they are all awesome, plus you have well rounded information of all the characters and their relationships. This particular book had me on a roller-coaster of emotions. There is suspense, danger, twists and turns and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. There are some unexpected gut wrenching moments in this story. This author did an exceptional job pulling me in and keeping me enthralled, she writes such gripping and compelling stories that I don’t want it to end. I will definitely be reading more books by this talented author. I highly recommend this book.

A High Price to Pay (Madeline Dawkins, #2)A High Price to Pay by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

These books are kickass! I’m obsessed with Cynthia Hamilton’s writing in the way she captures Madeline’s life. Performing two jobs at the same time, private eye and event coordinator, Madeline is at a weekend-long birthday party for a movie director’s wife when she must track down not only the family’s jewels but also track down a murderer. Madeline works beside the local police department where she finds there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to her clients.
If that’s not enough, Madeline’s old abductor was released after striking a deal with the feds. Lionel Usherwood is on the path for revenge, if she doesn’t have enough on her plate as it is as Lionel already killed Rick Yeoman but now Lionel is out for Madeline’s blood next.
This book is filled with mystery, action, and suspense all in one! Great read: Original story, entertaining, and realistic.

Hit and Run by Diane Hester is definitely my favourite story of hers, so far. It is another complex and well-woven thrilling suspense. This gripping story twists and turns so much- it really kept me guessing, running various scenarios through my mind, and wondering how it would all play out in the end. Every time I thought I had it nailed down, Ms. Hester threw in a twist or two and sent me off kilter again.
Raina Wilkins life has never been the same since tragedy struck ten years earlier. But, now her life is about to take a deadly turn. While driving home one night, Raina hits a man who ran out of the woods directly in front of her car. And if that’s not bad enough- she is then held at gun point and told to drive. What happens from this point on makes for a thrilling tale of abduction, conspiracy, murder, and mystery.
Looking forward to more from Ms. Hester…

Thank you, Diane Hester!

A High Price to Pay (Madeline Dawkins, #2)A High Price to Pay by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story begins with Madeline and Mike going through with their PI firm plans. Since they are just starting out, Madeline is still working as an event coordinator. However, the current job she is working needs both of her jobs in order to be successful. She must not only pull off an amazing birthday party for the wife of an actor…she also needs to find some missing jewels and, eventually, solve a murder. And then an old enemy makes a return….but you have to read it to know how it all pans out!

I feel that Madeline is less whiny and afraid in this book compared to the previous one. It’s like she found her self-confidence and I love it. These books are out of my usual genre of reading…but I have found myself really enjoying this series. I am keeping Cynthia Hamilton on my list of author’s to look for when I am searching for new books.

5 +++++++++ Stars

I am a true, true crime fan. I love watching true crime and I love to read Crime novels, this is my first read by this author and also my first true crime novel.

I will say there was a lot of information in this story, much of it was information I don’t feel I needed to fully appreciate the story. It was mainly the backstories of all the secondary and even third characters in the book. The information and facts that pertain directly to the crime though were written beautifully and I was able to keep everything organized in my mind.

I love true crime because I love the facts, the what if’s, and the is that possible things that need to be taken into account. This author did an amazing job and matched so many of my own reasonings throughout. The last chapter blew me away!! Never saw that coming and actually read the chapter beginning about five times to figure out what I was reading!! Well played!!!!

I am looking forward to reading more from this author and have already recommended this to a couple friends who like me are fascinated with how all this stuff plays out.

Highly Recommended!

Spouse Trap (Madeline Dawkins, #1)Spouse Trap by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Spouse Trap: Madeline Dawkins Mysteries (The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 1) by Cynthia Hamilton. This author isn’t new to me and I find myself draw to anything I can find she’s written. I find it refreshing to see a author who can write different types of stories. This book took me a little bit to sink into but once I did I was completely hooked and couldn’t put it down. The characters are probably where I had a bit of trouble connecting but I’ll be honest I couldn’t think they would be better any other way, sometimes characters are exactly how the story should have them be and it’s by no fault of the author I couldn’t connect with them right away. So while the characters weren’t my favorite they still were exactly what the story called for and the storyline really drew me in and kept me turning the pages. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Four stars and highly recommended.

Spouse Trap (Madeline Dawkins, #1)Spouse Trap by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Spouse Trap is the first book in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. It is the first time that I have read any of this author’s work and I this book is anything to go by then I’ll definitely be reading more as I absolutely loved this book.
Spouse Trap is a fantastic mystery novel that grabs you from the very first page and does not let you go until the very end. I was totally hooked on this story and could not put it down.
Madeline Ridley has it all. She has a perfect life in a perfect house with a perfect husband. Or does she? When she wakens up in a strange hotel room with no recollection of how she got there or what happened in the room, her life takes a dramatic turn she could never have envisaged. To make matters worse her husband produces damning photographs of the night in the hotel and demands a divorce.
This book has a fantastic storyline with amazing characters. I just loved Madeline and the way she took control of the situation and did everything she could to get to the bottom of the situation and turn the tables on Steven with the help of a private investigator.
This story builds up towards Madeline becoming a private investigator herself, aided and abetted by long term friend Mike which I am sure we will read much more of in the future books in this series. I for one, can’t wait to read more of Madeline and Mike’s adventures.

This was Libby’s book, she’s a badass FBI agent who takes down the bad guy… but then things start to turn south after her amazing bust. I can’t give anything away but read this series. The third book is the best and they were all so amazing. I will literally read the phonebook if Megan Mitcham writes it. *fan girl* 🙂

A High Price To Pay is the second book in the Madeline Dawkins series. If you haven’t already I would definitely recommend reading the first book in the series beforehand.
Madeline is back working as an events coordinator, but also trying to get her PI business off the ground with her friend and partner Mike. Madeline is a great main character, she’s strong and feisty, yet real and vulnerable too. She has suffered in the past, which she is still coming to terms with, but it just makes her more relatable.
Like the first book this story is full of action to keep you hooked and wanting to find out what happens next. The story is full of tense moments and mysteries to be solved. The characters all have a lot of substance to them which I love, and you can tell the author has done a lot of research which really pays off in the details of the story which really bring it to life.
Looking forward to reading the next instalment.

How (Stalker Series, 3)How by Megan Mitcham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have really enjoyed all the Stalker Series from Megan Mitcham so far and the latest installment of, How, is not an exception to the rule. I love how Mitcham writes romantic suspense. The flow and the suspense is always so well balanced that I feel as if I am reading a story and viewing the movie right before my eyes. This one has to be one of my favs of the series though as I grew close and invested in the main character even more so and the supporting cast as well. This book will want to demand your full attention from beginning to end so I recommend giving yourself a solid day to devour it the way you will so desire.

In How we get to follow the FBI Special Agent Libby Irish as she struggles to prove her worth as a woman in a field overstocked with men and manly sexiists. She is forced to take time off until an scandalous, well some say so, picture surfaces. During that time things are anything but a vacation and a stalker begins to mess with Libby in some disturbing ways. She suspects her creepy neighbor may be the culprit but ends up not so much and these two will develop more than a strong team to battle the issues at hand. The romance was a nice break up with the suspense. I can’t wait to see what Megan Mitcham has up her sleeves next!
