A Book Signing To Die For: Beach Reads by Judy Moore – Review by Angela Hayes

A Book Signing To Die ForA Book Signing To Die For by Judy Moore
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Book Signing to Die For: Beach Reads is a fabulous cosy mystery by Judy Moore. I have read many of Ms. Moore’s books now- so I know what I’m in for with one of her stories. I really enjoy a great mystery, and this definitely fits that bill and is one of my favourite reads of hers.
Jumping into the story, there’s interesting and somewhat quirky characters, murder, intriguing mystery, danger, suspense, drama, discovery, and some surprising developments. And as usual with one of Judy Moore’s books I spent much of the time trying to predict the outcome before anything was revealed. But Ms. Moore once again twisted and turned the plot and kept me guessing the whole way through.
‘A Book Signing to Die For’ is an incredibly detailed, descriptive, and really well-woven. Ms. Moore had no problem building the suspense and tension- and had me anticipating what was yet to come.
I loved the bookstore setting, it really added to the atmosphere of the whole story. I’m pretty sure we met some of these characters in one of Ms. Moore’s previous books- ‘Somebody in the Neighborhood’.
I wonder what Judy Moore has planned for us next?

Thank you, Judy Moore!

Night Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 1) by India Kells was an extremely suspenseful dark romance that had me turning page after page. Orla Karlsen is a reporter in Chicago determined to stop a new drug from spreading through her city. Alongside this mission, she wants to figure out who the Vigilante is, who is taking matters into his own hands. The Vigilante is on his own mission to stop the drug and figures Orla may be his ticket to getting to the bottom of it, before it starts killing people. As their relationship starts to blossom that’s when things start to get interesting, and hot. Will Orla be able to trust the mysterious man or will he betray her to keep his secrets safe. I couldn’t put this book down, I HAD to find out what happened next. I’ll be waiting anxiously for the next book.

☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
This is an intense romantic story. Not for those under 18. Due to adult content.

Orla Karlsen is a top notch journalist and he is on a deadly case. She is strong willed and independent. Has learned to fend for herself. Now she is in deep and looking for a way out. In comes the Vigilante. Is he good or bad, only reading this book can answer this question. Don’t forget the Phantom! It must be stopped.

India Kells is the writer of this Suspenseful Romance. This was really intense starting on page 1. Kept me on the edge of my seat. This is one of those stories, you can’t put down. I love Sam! He is so intense and sexy. That is how he was written in this story. I also love strong women, ones that can defend themselves. India Kells has really done her job with this the first book in the series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book had a hold on me from the start to finish and peaked my interest just by the summary alone. Once you delve into it, you won’t be able to put it down. Social worker, Valerie Williamson, is about to come a whole lot closer to understanding her clients. She’s compelled to start a support group and the death of 19-year-old Carmen Davidson. Carmen’s death has pushed her to throw all of her principles out the window and the group members’ stories push her to ignite the fire from her past. Pushing the boundaries in her career and in her life, she has to fight for what’s right.
I thoroughly enjoyed every single thing about this book and was quite surprised at how much I loved Valerie who is like a superhero and a personal inspiration to me as I’m attempting to do the same thing in my life with my career. This is one of my favorite books to date. Great book and it will not disappoint!

When your book store becomes the hub for murder will Becky be able to solve the crime without getting to deep.

Becky and her grandmother, Miss Alice own a quiet book store near the beach front every so often they host a book reading/signings from the most popular author this month, but when they become entangled with a murder they will have to put all there deductive skills to use to find out whodunit.

I enjoyed this story greatly the characters where warm and welcoming and had you engrossed in the story from the first chapter. I especially love Miss Alice, Becky and Lizzy’s grandmother she was a typical sassy, independent woman who knows her mind. With the twists and turns in this book it will have you reading long into the night to work with them to try and solve the crime.

Although I had worked out who the murderer was the story guided you brilliantly to the conclusion with out making it too obvious which is always great in a story, making the read work for the answer.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend to anyone looking for a escape. I will be looking at reading more by this author in the future.

Girl Trap (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery Book 3) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Angela Hayes

Girl TrapGirl Trap by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Girl Trap is the third book in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. WOW- Cynthia Hamilton certainly puts Madeline and Mike through their paces (and the wringer) in this book and has once again produced a clever and engrossing mystery for us to enjoy. Cynthia Hamilton and the Madeline Dawkins series have quickly become my go-to reads as I can always count on her to deliver an exciting story. The Madeline Dawkins books would make a fantastic television series, and in fact, they remind me a lot of the old Moonlighting series with Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis- but with more danger, excitement, and a more modern ‘feel’.
This story takes place three months after the ending of the previous book. Madeline and Mike take on two missing person cases that turn out to be anything but simple. They split the cases and begin their investigation, being drawn out of Santa Barbara in the process. For Madeline, a simple inquiry in an old missing persons case quickly turns deadly. Things are definitely not as they seem. Mike’s missing persons case quickly turns into a very dangerous sex/human trafficking investigation.
With missing women, suspicious circumstances, a spate of murders, two investigations, challenges, riddles, danger, sinister adversaries, and plenty of action- this story really took off. I found it to be a little more intense than the previous two, with more emotion and depth than I had expected. I was on the edge of my seat, with bated breath for parts of the book, while in other parts my heart ached for what the character/s were going through. Ms. Hamilton certainly didn’t hold back, putting her characters (and me) through the wringer. Poor Madeline can’t seem to catch a break, and I was left wondering how much more she can take. But she is one tough, and resilient cookie- who always finds her way through these difficult situations. She’s classy, sexy, intelligent, determined, and skilful- a perfect character for this series.
This is another cleverly crafted story in the Madeline Dawkins series. I have already read book four as I could not wait to find out what Maddie and Mike would get up to next- especially after the way this book ended! So, bring on Book #5!!! I cannot wait!!!
Wonderfully gripping reading!!!!

Thank you, Cynthia Hamilton!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This a fast-paced story that I devoured in one sitting. Valerie is a social worker that has past dram in her life that has prevented her from opening up to those around her. However, when she is asked to start a trauma support group, she finds the stories of those around her inspiring and have her wanting to delve into her own past. As she is also working on a murder case, she finds herself opening up to a detective that she has pushed away previously. The boundaries that she has set for herself are becoming blurred and you will have to read the story to see how it all works out.

I enjoyed this book and read it all the way through. There were a lot of ups and downs, emotionally, and there are definitely some triggers that could affect some readers. I found myself okay with them and able to read through the story. This isn’t a genre I usually gravitate to…but this story kept my interest and I may check out other books from this author.

I enjoyed reading the book Boundaries (Scope of Practice Book 1) by Jessica Aiken-Hall. It is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. It is a book that had me turning pages at times wondering what was going to happen next. I liked the character of Valerie Williamson. She is a woman who has kept herself closed off from others except for her cat, Gabriel. She could not have realized the changes that were coming when she was forced to start a trauma support group. She doesn’t feel comfortable comforting others with what she has had to deal with in the past. How will the support group turn out? Valerie also is looking into the death of a young woman as well as letting a detective who she has always pushed away, get closer to her. With all the changes in her life will her boundaries become blurred? What does the future hold for Valerie? Read this book to find out. This story is a bit dark at times and does include a discussion of subjects that may be sensitive to read about. I couldn’t help but care about what happened to Valerie and want her to be happy. I also enjoyed reading about the romance that begins for her. There are other additional characters that Valerie interacts with and each has their part to play in the story. This is a book that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. Don’t miss out on this intriguing story.

You talk about feelings and thoughts being all knotted up after reading a story…This one definitely had me all confused about how I felt after reading the last page.

Not sure how to review this book, do not want to give anything away but know that I really enjoyed it, there were times I couldn’t read it fast enough. I love how the story weaved around with a few different moving parts. I love how there were times it was a bit dark and then there were times I actually smiled. I loved the character development and wasn’t too sure about Valerie at first, as it didn’t really seem she was too sure about herself, but as her story came out and relationships started forming, I found myself completely connected to her and weirdly understanding all that happened in this book.

I really love this author and how she is able to make me feel what the characters are feeling and getting so wrapt up in my reading that nothing outside the book really registers till I’m done.

Awesome and I can not wait for more from this author!

She is a social worker that has had trauma in her past. She is more comfortable with the dead than the living. What will happen when she is asked to run a trauma support group? Boy On Hold by J.D. Spero a very detailed and compelling five-star read. This was my first by this author and won’t be my last as I flew through this one, I adored getting to know Hen. This is a compelling story filled with family drama with Mum Marcella struggling to get everything done, working hard, then we have Tyler older brother and struggling with his own fate, then there is young Henry or Hen as he is more commonly called, he is an enigma all of his own. This tale has a wonderful way of unfolding before your eyes, you don’t get any detail before you are ready and that shows us the talent of the author. I am becoming a fast fan of this author and was very sad when this story ended as it was such an emotional rollercoaster I didn’t want it to end.

Appearances can be deceiving. And in Southern California, where the sun shines almost every day and make-believe has its own industry, it’s hard to tell what is real and what is merely illusion. Two inquiries come to MDPI on the same day that seem like fairly straight-forward missing person cases. But it doesn’t take long to discover there’s nothing ordinary about the disappearance of two beautiful sisters from Minnesota and an estranged heiress who has never touched her eight-figure fortune.

While Madeline’s partner, Mike Delaney, heads down to Los Angeles to search for his cousin’s vanished girlfriend and her sister, Madeline heads to San Luis Obispo in hopes of picking up a twelve-year-old trail at a Catholic boarding school. Cynthia Hamilton turned to writing while fighting a mystery illness that went misdiagnosed for nine years. Forgetting that she couldn’t write if her life depended on it, she wrote her first book in secret, just in case it didn’t amount to anything. Nineteen years later, she has written twelve books and published ten of them. She writes general fiction and mystery-suspense novels, as well as some non-fiction. “Once Upon A Lyme…A Tale of Two Journey” documents her harrowing odyssey through late-stage Lyme disease and the unexpected upside of becoming a writer. Night Justice is the opening act of India Kells’ new series of Chicago Vigilantes series. I absolutely adore India Kells and the universe that she has created with her Women of Purgatory and Dark Sparrow series and with her crossover series with Maddie Wade, and now she is adding to it, fantastic! I love how the characters from different series cross paths so be prepared, that is also the case with Night Justice and the new series!
When you pick up a story by India Kells, you know that hours filled with enthralling story are waiting for you and be forewarned, plan enough time to get through the story with one sitting as stopping is not an option, trust me … I tried and it didn’t work, my brain could not shut down so I had to get up and just continue …
Night Justice will give us Vigilante justice, in the windy city of Chicago where we are taken along on a ride that a reporter, Orla Karlsen, is on with the Vigilante. A race to take down the suppliers who are bringing a new drug into the market that has no mercy on its users. A simple ‘going undercover’ for a story turns into something more and in the end both need to decide what matters most!
Every time I finish a book in one of India’s series I cannot wait for the next one and I truly hope she is not making us to wait too long and we can go back to the Noctem and Chicago!

Is Tyler guilty of the crime? Will the whole truth be revealed? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. With each chapter that I read, I found myself trying to put together the clues to what happened that night in 1991. You can’t help but feel for the Trout family as they are going through an investigation that brings forth emotions that each member of the family deeply feels. There are also heartbreaking moments as well. There are additional characters that interact with Hen, Marcella, and Tyler who are helpful, and then there are those whose motives I questioned. This is a story that will keep you guessing. I highly recommend reading it.

And The River Runs Deep: The Cold Case Murder Mystery of Leah Marcus by A.J. Ullman is a fictional True Crime story. It has been cleverly crafted, that it reads as a True Crime novel. To say I love True Crime is an understatement, I am addicted to it and AJ’s writing did it justice. It had me spellbound with the mystery and suspense, intrigue and drama, angst and wondering. I was so consumed by and swept away by the story and the emotions that I soon found the book had ended.

The release of one of her captors is not something Madeline was expecting only 3 years after she was abducted.

As the weekend birthday party is in it’s final days of preparation, a simple background check is requested by the matriarch of the family. This simple job turns into a murder investigation. What will Mike and Madeline find out about this family…

I loved the first book in the series and this one didn’t disappoint.

Mystery with a deadly twist.

This story is high speed ahead! Madeline and Mike have started their Private Investigator office. With everything in place, then start the investigating Madeline and Mike. As we learned in book 1. Madeline is also an event planner. So let’s add that to the mix. Oh and a party for a famous movie director’s wife. Just one more thing: The Plot. No Spoilers Here!

Cynthia Hamilton has written this intense crime story. She lays it out for you, then puts you on a non – stop rollercoaster. She peaks your interest and keeps you reading. So set out the snacks, drinks, and chocolates, settle in and enjoy. You will love the characters and their roles in the story. I can’t wait to see where Madeline goes next in book 3. Thank You Cynthia Hamilton for the ride!
