Murder Creek (Eve Sawyer Mystery, #1)Murder Creek by Jane Suen

This is a nice, clean, cozy mystery and a great book for younger readers getting into the genre. Our main character could be in school for investigative journalism but I feel she would have been better as only a detective. She was good at talking to people and linking things together. I think instead of random details about food the author could have included more on the main character, like her love for writing or other details in her life showing her connection to nature. I enjoyed the ending, I like that she solved the case and more with what happened to Lacy.

Quick cozy mystery
This was a short mystery that was fast paced and entertaining. Eve, an aspiring journalist, stumbles upon a twenty year old missing persons case and uncovers more than she bargained for. It’s an easy clean read, with enough depth to sink your teeth into. This was a good first book of the series and I look forward to book

Eve is a character that you will love. I fell into the story right from the start. She got hooked on the story of Murder Creek just as much as I was hooked into her story. I couldn’t put this story down. I loved how much her passion kept her going as people tried to divert her attention away from the mystery. This is one of those stories that keeps you engaged because of many things. The characters are quite entertaining. The mystery is one that you have to keep going because you have to figure out who did it. People turning her away just had the opposite effect, she just kept going. This is a quick read and I can’t wait for the next story to come out.

Jessica is playing with fire and she needs to be wary that she doesn’t get burnt . She’s gone from real estate to delivering “paperwork “ in dark dangerous places and she’s attracted the attention of some questionable characters ….also she has a taste for Patron , girl that stuff will put hair on your chest 🫣🤪

Jessica gets approached by Velasco to find his daughter , Doraliz and much like him I can’t help but wonder if she was taken or Jeff on her own accord , I mean hello she’s more of a commodity that anything else and if I were her I’d run and when Jessica starts asking questions people don’t like it and she gets friendly warnings to leave things well alone, but she’s like a dog with a bone ….

There’s more going on in Jessica’s life other than trying to find Doraliz , there’s the drama with her folks , Angus and his feelings , her sassy friends and her four legged non judgmental housemate 🐾😍As for Doraliz she’s safe and sound but I get where her heart is at .

I enjoyed this read and Jessica may have baggage but she’s bold and brave 😉

I thoroughly loved this book. It was a short read and I was so wanting more. I love these types of stories and this one did not disappoint me. Now this book would be suitable for young readers wanting to dip into crime books. It was well written.

Eve is drawn to Murder Creek and the disappearance of Lacey. So much so that she asked for an incomplete on her paper for school so she could write on this particular case.

What she uncovered at Murder Creek was not only answers but peace about a murder many years before Lacey disappeared. I loved how the author gave credible information and sources. This book shows that all it takes is one piece of information and a whole more will unravel.

I was in between a three and a four star rating after reading Murder Creek. This is the authors debut novel which could attribute to some of the issues that I had throughout the book. While I was really enjoying the mystery aspect of the story and getting into a good flow the author would randomly stop, at the end of a chapter, seemingly mid thought, only to drop us back into yet another different place, or different thought. The abrupt changing of chapters, thoughts, and actions really pulled me out of the story. It wasn’t hard for me to fall back into it because as I mentioned it was a really good idea, the story could have been amazing. Maybe with more practice the author might be able to smooth the story out a bit. I will definitely read another book by this author and find out.

Dreams about people from long ago, current reality in a town place called Murder Creek, and delicious food- what isn’t there to like? My favorite part of this “whodunnit” is the clever way the past is connected with the future and Eve attempts to solve a cold case. Even the minor characters are well-rounded and I enjoyed the snippets of Southern hospitality throughout.

Ultimately, this book explores whether friends or family have thicker ties, and how to relive a character’s remorse from a choice he made years ago. Well-written, quick read.

Murder Creek was different. It kind of reminded me of the show Cold Case. The author presented the story in a different light. Instead of local police looking into a cold case, it was a student. Not only a student but one who is studying journalism.
Eve came across a story of this missing girl who was never solved. She felt it was her need to dig and do this girl justice. So much so that she asked her professor to give her an incomplete, so she could use this story as her semester project. Not realizing what she would find by digging. People were reluctant, people really didn’t want her digging, and others told her what they knew.
What was the question she was trying to answer, what happened to Lacey Walken?
The author put together a wonderful investigative mystery that keeps the reader wondering. I’m typically really good at figuring things out early, but it even took me some time navigating before I got there. Which kept me interested, kept me intrigued, and made me want more. Which to me is exactly what the author is trying to do with their work.
So if you like cold case mysteries, give this shorter story a try. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

If you are nosey like me you’ll keep reading this book regardless of how much you aren’t sure about how it is told. The story line was real quick. It does feel like there is a lack of detail but it is a good story. A lot of twists and turns that are unexpected but they hit you all at once. It was worth reading to the end and learning what happened at Murder Creek.

A quick, easy cozy mystery. The author puts together nice little story that is week developed, even in its short fashion. It is an easy read with very straight-forward writing and is engaging enough to finish in one sitting.

While I enjoyed this story, it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I would have enjoyed a bit more depth to the story and characters, but understand if the author was trying to write a simple cozy mystery. It was at least enjoyable and I’d pick up another by the author in the future.

This was a quick mystery read that focused on main character Eve and her investigation for her journalism class. She is drawn to a twenty year old cold case. The small town has dark secrets that she is uncovering and as a result someone doesn’t want her to keep digging. Will she solve the case? Or will she be the next victim? It is well written and keeps you turning the pages. For being a shorter book it was a good read. I would recommend it and cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

This book was a quick read. It was inviting and sucked me into the story quickly. Eve Sawyer is in college and becomes fascinated with a road sign about Murder Creek. She decides to write a paper about the disappearance and assumed murder is Lacey Walken. I struggled a little bit with the large amount of characters and keeping them all straight. But it didn’t keep me from wanting to know what happened with Lacey! There was a twist towards the end of the book, and I absolutely couldn’t put the book down then. Great story!

Mr Lucky was a good British crime mystery. It has a lot of stories going on, and I had a hard time keeping them straight for the first half of the book. Then they all came together and it made sense. I am already looking forward to reading the next book in the series. The story was complex and well established. The characters were intense and well rounded. I knew the direction the book was heading for quite some time, but not all the intertwining pieces. I look forward to more from the author and this series.

How it’s all connected. I have always loved thriller movies but recently started getting into thriller books and venturing into different types. This is the first book I have read by the incredible Lee Wood and while I initially was confused in the very beginning, I found myself highly invested in both stories and what they have to do with the other. Primarily told from James and Dave’s perspectives, the book has chapters from several other key players in the story giving a wide spectrum and understanding of the overall story.
James had it all, recently promoted to detective in the police force and had a loving wife and two children. In an instant his life shatters, hit and run steals his family from him, and the bottle he coped with claims his job and home leaving him alone with nothing but the threads on his back on the streets figuring out how to get his next drink. Dave was selling fake designer clothes before the “Trading Standards” showed up and took his market stall on his fortieth birthday. In the moment it was terrible, and he found himself in court but because of a clean record had sentence suspended and he quickly started on his big plan to turn things around for himself. A decade later, he has turned his life around significantly and is venturing into safer paths for his wealth to continue without the constant fear of prison. While James is the primary story it begins in 2015, Dave on the other hand begins in 2006 and develops throughout the book thus catching up to James’ timeline. With the help of a new friend James finds his way out of the bottle with a new positive outlook on life and is excited about what the future holds. Dave, with help of insiders has set plan after plan to grow his empire. The twist in how James and Dave intertwine shocked me at first and broke my heart. Taking the advice of a kind stranger James buys a lotto ticket.
Was the man right, could luck truly be on James’ side? Will Dave succeed in his property plans? What will happen when Peter’s plan comes to light? The world while reality based truly shows the dark underbelly. Things that happen every day around the world and sometimes in your own town without realizing. The authors ability to have so many complex stories not only individually but have them intertwine without initially understanding the significance is truly an incredible talent that makes it more interesting and on the edge of your seat trying to guess what will happen next but never knowing until it happens. Cannot wait to start book two ASAP, Lucky Break here I come.

I am such a fan of psychological thrillers already, and then you add in the crime portion creating a perfect mixture of genius! I love being kept in the dark and led down false paths in these stories. Trying to figure out what is happening but always being one or two steps behind is something I look for in my books. This is fast-paced, intriguing, and exciting with the way the author has woven us into the story. I highly recommend picking this book up and going on the adventure of second-guessing yourself all the way through!

I was hooked from page one by this fast paced crime thriller and the storyline kept me gripped throughout. Detective James Sheldon’s perfect life was shattered in an instant, leading to him being homeless and begging for loose change whilst contemplating suicide just eighteen months later. Then in a strange twist of fate James then wins big on the lottery, a record breaking 168 million, which is literally life changing for him. However, what should have been a dream come true becomes a nightmare when he finds himself mixed up with drug dealers and crime bosses who are out to destroy him. James also has to tackle his own personal demons which particularly plague him at night. As the blurb says, this is not your usual crime novel plot, and the storyline is totally unpredictable with plenty of twists and turns. The descriptive narrative made both the characters and the setting come vividly to life, and I found James an engaging main character. This was an action packed story and one which I recommend.

This was such an interesting story about two lives intersecting. The main character is James Sheldon. James is married with two kids when his wife and kids are tragically killed in a hit and run car accident. This spirals James downward into not caring about his life and drowning everything in alcohol. From there, he loses everything – his job, his home, his dignity. James is homeless and living from donation to donation. One day, he decides to spend the little money he had on the lottery, and much to his surprise, he wins millions! He does what many cannot; he helps others with his windfall. But along the way, his life crosses paths with Dave Rex. Dave is not the good guy that James is. Dave kills people that he doesn’t like or that he thinks cross him. He decides that James needs to die. I really enjoyed reading how it played out with Dave and James. It was hard to put down and completely worth the time!

There are a lot of elements that go into making this a well rounded story. Sadly they did not all mesh for me and i easily got bored. The part of James life and thoughts while being homeless was interesting and made me really feel his plight. The whole Rex side of things I struggled with and not that the story could have done without but I really did not care for him one way or the other. Most of the book I was wondering how he fits into James story. It was ended with all the P’s and Q’s taken care of and that area was the second best part of the story. Sorry I just wasn’t a fan.

This was a really good read. It is the first book in the Trentbridge Tales series. It was full of twists and turns and very fast paced. In the beginning I wasn’t sure how all the characters were related. It tells a story from different people’s points of view and its hard to see how they all join together and that’s part of what I loved. The not knowing. The author does a really good job with the main character James. And it’s such a unique twist of a riches to rags back to riches story. My heart broken for James when his wife and kids were killed. From that moment his life spiralled. He went from a amazing home and job with promotion to becoming a homeless alcoholic. While living on the streets a stranger suggests he should by a lottery ticket and that one decision changed his life all over again. But they say money can’t buy you happiness and in this case its true. With James winning this money it has put him on the radar of some very dangerous people who he know has to outwit to survive all the while still dealing with his own demons from his past.

Thus is a gripping crime Thriller which kept me gripped from beginning to end.
I can’t wait to see what else this author has is store.

Mr. Lucky is a great book to read. I started reading it thinking that crime would take place and our main character, James, would have to solve it since he is an ex-detective. James’s story slowly is revealed in the beginning with him begging on the streets and how he got there. It is incredibly heartbreaking what he has been through and details his life trying to survive on the streets. There are many different points of view in the book that move the story along including Dave Rex who is the main opposing force in James’s life. Once James gets incredibly lucky is where the story starts to pick up and I didn’t want to stop reading it to figure out how the story would end. Mr. Lucky is a different book with a great emotional impact on the reader. I feel like Lee Wood is giving us hope and showing us positive changes that can make a difference in the lives of others.

Life has a way of changing very quickly. One moment, everything is on the up and up. Family life is great, job is showing the prospect of a promotion, life if grand. That is, until it isn’t.

Detective James Sheldon was living the life as one might say. His wife and best friend Miriam took their two children to go visit with her parents. Expecting them to show up at any time, James was taken aback when there was a knock on the door and bad news to follow. That bad news put James in a place where he eventually found himself at the bottom of the barrel and living on the streets pandering for spare change.

But again, life has a way of quickly changing. A kind soul persuades James to go buy a lottery ticket. He seriously could have eaten a decent meal with the money but decided to take the advice and bought the ticket instead. Life changed again in just a short amount of time when he checked his numbers and they all matched. He was the lucky recipient of the largest lottery ever, $168 million!!

Now his life is in danger because of a devious man trying to ruin his life. How will James handle his newfound wealth and this lunatic?

This book started out a little rough for me but by the middle of it, it was gaining speed and I ended up really enjoying the story. The beginning had a lot of details that I felt were unnecessary at first but eventually came around to being important. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series!

On a side note, I guess I could say I’m lucky as I was reading this. My kindle shut off just as I read the last word!!

Detective Scala is up to his neck in trouble. After finding an abandoned car with blood in it, he takes it upon himself to solve the crime. Unfortunately for him he discovers that another victim and the two crimes seem to be related. Not only is he trying to solve two crimes at once, he is also trying to keep an important witness alive as well. The crime scenes point to Mafia involvement, but as always anything is possible. Follow Detective Scala on another adventure. I have read one other book in this series and this one was just as good as that one. As far as I can tell they do not to be read in any particular order but I like to read a series in order. This book was engaging and kept my attention trying to solve the mystery. If you are in the mood to read a good mystery and forget the real world for a few hours this book will do that for you.

Everyone knows when a married person goes missing, you first look at their spouse and other close relationships. But when someone has woven a tangled web, everyone begins to look suspicious.

This book had me second guessing myself at every turn. Just when I felt confident that I had it figured out, someone else would start to look guilty.
Jumping into the 5th of a series is never easy, but I will definitely be reading the others from this series. Very well written and attention grabbing.
