Having read some of the books in the author’s Notebook Mystery series, I was very excited to read this. I loved the crime/mystery plot elements with the historical details of life in New York in 1912. Really though, the interesting part of the novel is how Emma lives two separate lives and the fallout that happens when they collide, as this makes up most of the character development in the novel. The novel kept me turning the pages the whole way through. Highly recommend this one!
And Then She Fell by Dreena Collins is an intriguing women’s fiction story with crime and investigation, grief, loss, heartache, mystery, danger, drama, emotion, and interesting developments. This is the first book that I have read from this author, so I was curious by what I might find. The blurb intrigued me enough to want to explore the book- so I grabbed a copy and jumped right in. The premise is intriguing right from the outset, and the author cleverly weaves a story that caught me in her snare and held my attention the whole way through. I read avidly, all the while trying to piece everything together and figure out what had actually happened before the ‘big’ reveal’- but Ms. Collins managed to keep me guessing the whole way through. I really felt for Catherine, as a mother I can only imagine the devastation I would feel at the loss of one of my children- let alone under such a suspicious note. If I felt there was questionable circumstances around the death of my child, like Catherine, I would definitely want to know more and get to the bottom of what actually happened. The ending was definitely unexpected… A cleverly crafted and engrossing read… Happy Reading!

I was pulled into this book from the beginning. I was originally drawn to this book by the front cover, but once I read the synopsis I I knew I had to read it, and once I started I simply couldn’t put it down. The drama, the suspense, and all of the emotions in this amazing thriller will take you on an emotional Roller coaster ride. The story is original, the characters are perfectly developed and the book as a whole is the best thriller that I’ve read this year. So if you’re looking for your next great read, then make sure you pick this one up today.

Woah, I didn’t expect that ending!! Im shocked actually. This is my first book by Dreena and it was such a huge page turner for me. Book is about a mother who’s daughter died from falling off a balcony. But she starts wondering if she fell or if someone pushed her. So she starts talking to her friends, her ex boyfriend and she’s starting to question what really happened! The way Dreena writes and the way she explains things in great detail, is simply amazing. Love love love her writing. If you want a book with suspense, this is the one for you. You think one person is a suspect but then you think someone else is too. You never really know what someone is capable of. I really enjoyed this book and I’ll be reading more of this authors work!

I was pulled into this book right from the start. The narrator, Catherine, is English and talking to her dead daughter as though she can hear her mother. Catherine searches for the truth about her daughter Susie’s death a year prior. This book has a unique structure to let the reader view different scenarios to explain Susie’s tragic death. The reader needs to ask whether each scenario likely would have happened and question what really is the truth about that night. Collins skillfully written prose, will have you on the edge of your seat asking the same questions Catherine does and the ending takes you by surprise!

This is the third book in this mystery series based on ancient Egypt. As a lover of historical fiction, I have become very enthralled with this series. This book reminded me of “Murder on the Nile” in some ways, but with more historical accuracy. I love her diligence of the excavation sites, artifacts and material remains to help not only solve the mystery but provide you with the knowledge of that era. I must also mention that her maps and “Glossary of Gods” she includes helps to know who and what she is describing. I was never familiar with the Egyptian Gods so that was a nice learning tool. If you are a fan of historical mysteries, please check out this book and the rest of her series. I think you will thoroughly enjoy them.

This is one of the oddest books I’ve read. It started like a mom that couldn’t accept her daughter’s death. As the story unfolded, more possibilities came to light (there are 10 in all.) I can’t tell you much about the story, you’ll have to read it for yourself. It is also one of the best stories I’ve ever read. You are led to think about what you are reading. I found the characters to be very interesting. There are several POV and this makes for a well rounded look at what could have happened to her and why she did what she did. The book is pretty powerful too. I found myself feeling some big emotions. I recommend this for those who can handle it. I also give a trigger warning!

Dreena did a really good job with this thriller. I kept trying to figure out what happened to Susie right along with Catherine only to be left puzzled and suspicious throughout the entire book. Dreena did an outstanding job developing her characters and even though Susie is deceased you got a sense of who she was right along with everyone else. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I really enjoyed this book and that it had the same feel as the Notebook Diaries. Following Lottie, Tim and Dora’s daughter, we learn that she has grown into a fiercely independent woman just like her Aunt Emma. I liked that there was a mystery to be solved and Lottie aimed to seek justice for all. Lottie isn’t afraid to have her true self known and grows into string woman. I think it sends a great message to all to not be afraid of who you are. Finally, the ending was another great shock that I did not see coming but brought everything together fantastically.
Wow just WOW!! This is the first book I have read by this wonderful author but I know it definitely will not be my last. I started with the 3rd book of this series and I thoroughly enjoyed it BUT I will be back tracking to read the first 2 books and then reading this again because apart from the enjoyment of reading them all I am sure it will further enhance the series for me. I mean a Great Mystery and Ancient Egypt who could resist that! This book truly has it all happening, tomb raids and a plague just to name a couple things. With loads of twists and turns along the way creating an intriguing storyline, this is a page turner from start to finish that you simply do not want to miss! I loved the characters, the storyline and the way this amazing author had my imagination firing with every word.

Brilliant Historical Mystery This author is one of my favourites. Her writing is immersive and captivating. This book follows Lottie as she balances her Paterson all and professional lives in a society that is far from accepting. It was great to see characters from The Notebook Series, which is a series that I love. There is mystery, conspiracy, suspense and romance interwoven through an engaging storyline. Highly recommend.

When I started this book, I didn’t realize it was book 2 of a series when i started reading it, but that’s okay because I don’t feel like I missed anything. I know I have said it so many times before but I will keep saying it, over and over again….. this talented author knows how to write an amazing Historical Mystery like no one else!! She truly deserves continued praise and recognition for her creative storylines. Again I know I have said it before but the captivating writing talent of this author easily transports the reader back in time so much so that you really feel as though you can see everything around you and all that is happening. Just this alone should make you want to read this fantastic book but here is a very quick snap shot of the storyline. This was a great book. Normally court related books sort of bore me. This one kept my attention and coming back to it. The plot and characters were great. I had a great time reading this book. I think this book displays people in same sex relationships and corrupted people in charge really well.

Reader’s Thoughts: Stumble & Fall is the second installment in the Legacy of Silence series. Although I did not read the first novel in this series, I was able to follow along with the storyline fairly well. I may have missed some minor background information but didn’t feel that it took away from the storyline in any way. I plan to go back and read the first novel. This psychological thriller had me sitting on the edge of my seat, heart racing, while quickly flipping pages for more. The tragic events that Kate and Tilly endured during their lifetime broke my heart. Their strong will and desire to do everything in their power to help these victims made my heart full. As a nurse, I could 100% relate with their instinct to put their own needs aside and care for others. I love that the characters within this novel are flawed, full of fear and self-doubt, but show us readers how to fight for what is right. There were many tough social topics discussed in this novel. Rivers thought these topics out thoroughly and did an amazing job accurately executing these topics into the storyline making every part believable.

I thoroughly enjoyed this page turner of a novel, which had me hooked from page one. As a sequel to the first book in the series I would personally recommend reading book one first. Having lost her father, Kate is now working on renovating her desert home and working in her psychological counselling practice. Working from the inside means she can also find out who she can trust, but by searching for answers it puts her in danger. Her sister Tilly has moved back to New Mexico, and when a family tragedy occurs it causes Tilly to go into a cycle of self-sabotage, which nearly gets her killed. Both Kate and Tilly struggle with fear and self-doubt in this sequel, and the lives of the victims they are helping also hang in the balance. However, Kate’s determination to save them may actually put more young women in danger, and Tilly may not survive her reckless pursuit for justice. A fast paced and gripping novel which I couldn’t put down. The characters were so well defined I felt like I knew them, making me feel engaged with them and immersed in the storyline.

I didn’t realize this was book two in a series until after I started it but it did not hinder the experience within the book. It is a continuation of Kate and Tilly and their life working with abused and sexually assaulted victims. I enjoyed the book but at times felt it was a lot of fluff without anything being resolved. However, I did enjoy the read and will go and read book one. The was good character development amongst Kate and Tilly and I enjkyed watching them grow. At the end, I found myself wanting more and needed mysteries to be resolved but I suppose there could be a book three, at least I hope so.

Divided Lives is an action packed story, with so much going on! The book bounces around in the time line quite a bit, and uses memories/past events to set the scene. It was sometimes hard to follow all that was going on. The book revolves around Lottie, a successful, unconventional young woman living in early 1900s New York. She is quite ahead of her time, in her profession and her personal life. The “divided lives” refers to the balance of her personal and professional life and the thin line separating them. I enjoyed the story directly relating to her, including her relationships with Henrietta and Danny, Rose, Frank, etc. However, the story surrounding the trial was hard for me to follow. It has a lot of people involved, without much knowledge of the going ons and background. Despite that, I’m impressed with the level of detail the author has. She created a whole world and within it, a whole crime and all the details behind it. I love the authors opinion of what might have been with the trials and guilt. While this book isn’t written as a sequel to the Notebook Mysteries series, and under a different pen name, it has many of the same characters. I recommend both, and look forward to more books by the author.

Stumble & Fall (A Legacy of Silence Book 2) by Amy Rivers. I LOVED this book. It’s the second in the series but can be read as a standalone although I highly recommend reading them in order. Its the story of Kate Medina who is a psychologist who has returned home to New Mexico following her father and her rape at a prison where she worked. Her sister Tilly has also decided to head back home with her current boyfriend. Tilly had gotten mixed up in a sex trafficking ring in this same town. Luckily she got out but so many others have not. Kate wants to find out what happened to her dad along with exposing the secrets of this town. She also wants to open up a home for these lost girls. Tilly has overcome all the past and become a trauma nurse so she gets a job in town to try to help these girls that were so much like her. When Tilly and Kate start digging and stirring things up their lives become endangered. Will they be able to solve these horrible secrets in this town or will it be the death of them. Read this fast paced thriller to find out!

I don’t normally read books that have historical themes about them, but this book was amazing. A unique mystery that takes you through the life of Lottie. She has a side of herself she shows to everyone and then one that she saves for a special someone. Working as a clerk, she gets thrown into a twist when her personal life and professional life become entwined. Things begin to go astray when Lottie begins being blackmailed for her life style choices. She must figure out who is behind these cruel intentions. Wonderfully written and magnificently mysterious! I cannot wait to read more from this author!

I don’t know where to start with this book. The suspense, the drama, the characters, the family dynamics all are fantastic. Add in the brutal subject matter, the powerful tension of this book rockets up.
Kate and Tilly are sisters that grew up in a small New Mexican town with an evil overcast. Powerful men in the city have been trafficking the young girls for years. Kate discovered this when a student of hers at the local high school was murdered. The revelation led to many more, including Tilly’s history with the trafficking ring. Now, after the ring was exposed and Kate and her boyfriend were nearly killed to keep what they knew quiet, Kate and Tilly are attempting to rebuild their lives and their relationship.
Kate has opened her own therapy practice. Tilly and her boyfriend have moved closer. Tilly is starting a new job. Steven is off achieving a dream. Things are settled and seem to be moving towards domestic bliss. But it is never that easy. Tragedy strikes for Tilly. Kate makes some startling revelations regarding her parents. The twist, the questions all leading to more.
I jumped in this series here. I was blown away. Take my advice, it doesn’t matter where you start this series, just start it. I don’t know how much more these sisters can take but I hope they get the justice they deserve in the end. Ruth must go down!!! I will be going back and picking up the first one! I am hooked until the end! You will be, too!!!
