SUCH A GOOD STORY! Let me just start with that.
This is the second book in the Legacy of Silence. But I have not read the first book (yet, going to order it right now!) and it read perfectly fine. You may be missing just a little bit of background information regarding Tilly and Kate, but nothing that can’t be figured out through context clues.
This story is heavy, dealing with rape and sex trafficking. It may be triggering to some so a warning might be appreciated.
Tilly and Kate are sisters. They have lived very traumatic and tumultuous lives. However they have not taken this as a hardship they cannot overcome. Rather, it is something that they apply to help others. Kate is a psychologist whose whole practice is helping young people in need. She discovers a potential human trafficking ring that involves the people in power in her town. Tilly is a nurse who has helped one too many women after an attack. Together they work to solve this case.
As hard as the topic is. I love the way that this story handled it. Tilly and Kate are great examples of overcoming adversity. I love the bond they have as sisters and how they are willing to help others in need.
I think Tilly and Kate are greatly developed characters who I was rooting for. I definitely cannot wait to read more about the two of them as the series continues!

A bit of a slow start for me, and I wish I had known more of the back stories of Kate and Tilly. Kate is a psychologist who opens her own practice to try and help teens in her home town, she suspects a human trafficking ring involving city officials and businessmen. Tilly is a nurse who works with victims of sexual assault to collect evidence against their attackers. Kate and Tilly are sisters and each have a past that personally links them to their work and drives them to help those in similar situations. Each are uncovering evidence that can put someone behind bars for life, and each are putting themselves directly in harms way to protect those like them. A very touching story that shows that your past should not prevent you from becoming who you want to be and helping others.

This book is a spin off of the Notebook Mysteries, but reads well as a stand alone book as well. If you’re familiar with the Notebook Mysteries then this book is a fast-forward about 20 years and the protagonist of this book a close relative of Emma. I really enjoyed the book and was surprised with a plot twist. If you enjoy mysteries or stories set in historical times you are missing out if you haven’t read this book.

The reason for my 4 stars is that I wish there was a movie LOL. But other than that I love this book it keeps you on your toes.
Divided Lives is one of those types of books that should make into a movie. While Lottie has to struggle to live in New York in those times the suburban area was divided into different beliefs and rules. She had to live with it and manage her life while her career took a twist in a criminal case toward one against Police Officer Becker.
But things become really sticky for her when someone is after Becker and blackmails Lottie.

I borrowed A Quiet Place to Kill by N.R. Daws through Kindle Unlimited and it’s my first book by this author. I choose the book based off of the cover and dove right in. I will say that I almost gave up on this book because the first 40% of it seemed slow but I am so glad that I kept pushing through. By the time I got to 45% in, the book picked up tremendously and it seemed to really come together. I ended up enjoying this book significantly which says some thing because I generally am not a person who likes historical books. This Historical Thriller Crime book taught me so much and opened up my eyes to a whole new genre. I really enjoyed the characters of Kember and Hayes.

Lizzie is a woman before her time, I she was written wonderfully, I love how feisty she was especially for the time period and seeing the potential of what’s to come.

Hayes is also a wonderful character who doesn’t seem to have many hang-ups about the woman’s movement. I felt as if each character was written very realistic, very engaging, and with great purpose.

While the main premise of this book is about crime and murder I appreciated what a front burner it took in regards to the women’s movement and women not having to only be kept barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen. I felt the author did a tremendous job of making it part of the forefront, but doing it with class and style.

This was an easy four-star read for me and I can’t wait to move on to book 2.

Just wow. This series continues to draw me in. The author does a wonderful job crafting together this crime thriller and creating a believable world. She deals with extremely difficult subject matter in a very real way (TW sexual assault).

While this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first book as it sets the stage and helps with the continued character development in the second book. We get the opportunity to know Tilly better through this story with the book alternating between her and Kate’s points of view. We also get to see Kate continue to both grow and struggle with her new world as a result of everything she learned and experienced in the first book.

The author has an extremely engaging writing style. I finished each book in just a couple of days. I also appreciate the realness and believability of the story. The author doesn’t force happy endings or tie things up neatly, but rather let’s the reader and the characters sit in the emotionality and traumas experienced by these characters. The author also does a wonderful job using multiple character’ experiences and giving the reader a true picture of how sexual assault can affect survivors. The author is clearly well researched on the subject matter.

I’m looking forward to the 3rd book to see how this story continues to develop and conclude.

This book was just insane! I was ensnared, and there is just no better way to even describe it. It was a rollercoaster ride for me that I was more than happy to be on! Kate and Tilly were well thought out characters and they seriously just made the book! READ THE FIRST BOOK. I don’t think I necessarily missed anything but I guess I will find out because I will definitely be going back to read the first one! It was so thrilling of a read that there were moments my palms were sweaty, and my heart was pounding in my chest! This is a series I will have to see through to the end!!

Divided Lives is a historical drama unlike any other I have had the pleasure of reading. When I started reading, I had no idea it was a lesbian/bisexual romance, or that it would be a steamy romance. Those steamy scenes just aren’t for me, and I don’t think they add anything to the story line. That is the reason I am giving the three stars, and I’d give it three and a half but it won’t let me. I’d give it that half a star extra because I just had to know what happened to Lottie, Rose, Frank, Hen, and all the other fabulous characters.

I recently read the Notebook Mysteries by the same author, different pen name, and was so pleased to be back with those people. I love K.R. Mullins writing style, the details of the time period, and the way she develops her characters. It did take a little bit for me to get used to the flashbacks, the flip-flopping between past and present, but I did get comfortable with it by the end.

It is 1912 and Lottie Flannigan is a young woman with a divided life in New York, in one half, she is a conservative lawyer who works in Midtown as a clerk for Justice Goff, who is also very conservative in his manner and expects that of his clerks too, however, her other side is a bohemian lifestyle in Greenwich Village, a mixing pot of cultures, lifestyles and it is somewhere where tradition is flouted and individualism is expected.

Lottie is happily living both sides of her life and keeps them well separated, that is until one day her office takes on the very publicised and controversial trial of Police Officer Charles Becker. The trial is one of conspiracy and also one where it could either make, or break a career and that is not just for the officer on trial, it also applies to this involved professionally as well.

This is also where her private and public lives begin to meld when some aspects of her private life are used by an unknown individual to blackmail her into making a choice between keeping her private life just that, private, or not by making demands of her, but they have picked on the wrong person and Lottie goes digging to find out who is behind it and why, all while working long hours on the trial. This is a story of scandal, mystery, crime and love and what the consequences of living a divided life can be in this story which will captivate you from the start and keep you that way all the way to the end.

Who would think the Author would come up with the brilliant idea of this story? We have Lottie, who is the niece of Emma from the Notebook Mysteries, in her own mystery. To think of her grown up when she was just a baby in the last book I read is mind blowing how that can happen with stories so quickly, but I love it. Lottie ends up on a case that clashes two sides of her life. She must now figure out how to work that out while solving the mystery. It was such a good read just like the Notebook Mystery series is! If you haven’t checked that one out, please do!

If you are looking for a gritty, suspenseful, psychological thriller that pulls you in then pick this one up.

Stumble and Fall by Amy Rivers is the follow up novel to Complicit. I did not read the first novel in the Legacy of Silence series but I was easily able to pick up the story due to the great characterization by the author. Kate and Tilly are well written, flawed and fully realized characters that will keep you interested.

I am very interested to see where else this series will take me and look forward to experiencing more about these characters and the hardships they face.

Go into this book knowing that the topics may be hard to read but are handled well by the author.

Lottie Flannigan is a young lady living and working in New York City in the year 1912. During the day she maintains a professional appearance while working as a legal clerk for a local law firm in Midtown. Her personal life while living in Greenwich Village is very different from that of her professional life. During her time away from her Conservative job in Midtown, Lottie maintains a Bohemian lifestyle in Greenwich Village where the traditional values of Midtown are rejected.

Lottie can keep her two lives separate until they suddenly collide when she starts working on a high-profile criminal case that involves a local police officer, Charles Becker. Lottie finds herself being blackmailed and risks her personal life being exposed if she does not do what the blackmailers say. Lottie is uncertain as to who she can trust and must risk everything to expose the truth behind who is blackmailing her.

I loved how the author so seamlessly blended fact and fiction together by intertwining the character of young Lottie into a real-life high profile criminal case that occurred in New York City in the year 1912. Lottie is independent, strong, persistent, and determined to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding who is blackmailing her. Lottie as the niece of Emma from the Notebook Mystery Series, is a lot like her aunt, who makes appearances throughout the book. The author did a wonderful job of blending in topics that were taboo in that time such as exploring one’s sexuality, and the women’s suffrage movement. This book contained mystery, suspense, blackmail, romance, and some steamy sex scenes. A must read for anyone interested in historical crime.

This historical fiction gem takes place in Greenwich Village in 1912 when times were much more conservative. The book follows Lottie a young legal clerk for Justice Goff of the Manhattan Municipal Court but her radical extended family and her sexual explorations have led to blackmail to purposefully influence her actions. Legal clerk by day and bohemian lifestyle by night. When a very high-profile case lands on Justice Goff’s docket Lottie doesn’t know if she can stand by and watch injustice being played out in the courtroom. The trial involves a local police officer named Charles Becker. Becker was the first police detective indite for murder and corruption at the turn of the century in lower Manhattan, an area notorious for graft and exploitation. At the same time, Lottie’s lover goes missing and she begins to receive blackmail threats that involve the trial and Rose.
I really enjoyed reading this historical fiction book. It’s not too often this genre of books can keep my interest but the authors use flashbacks to complete the backstory details of the main character.

This is an interesting historical crime read! Lottie is a strong character that I really enjoyed. She is definitely way before her time. This story has your crime, politics and secrets. This isn’t normally a genre I read but I really enjoyed this page turner. I will definitely be reading more from this author. The author is really good at building the suspense in the story. I also love the flow chart and character reference in the back!

Stumble & Fall (A Legacy of Silence Book #2) by Amy Rivers

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Stumble and Fall is the second book in A Legacy of Silence Series. This story follows Kate and her sister Tilly. It’s a hard book to put down once you get into it.

Tilly is a nurse and is good at her job. She is back in New Mexico and the feelings are back as well. She isn’t sure what is going on with her, but she knows that she has to do this. The quote I chose for Tilly is: “Fair enough. It’s a small world after all. We’d better get back to the clinic.”

Kate is still living in the town she was born in. She bought a house and will be starting her own business. In her want to help girls she may be putting them and herself in danger. The quote I chose for Kate is: “I feel like I’m running on adrenaline. More likely caffeine. I haven’t been sleeping well, so I may have overcompensated this morning.”

Highly recommended for Crime lovers.

Stumble and Fall by Amy Rivers is a fast-past thriller. Kate and Tilly are sisters who find themselves in danger after a family tragedy strikes. This is a very well-written book. I really loved both Kate and Tilly. These two young ladies have been through a lot and risk everything to prevent others from doing the same. The story is a very satisfying thriller that leads you on a fun, suspenseful ride. While it is a quick read, this book is very intense. If you love thrillers with solid characters, you will enjoy this book.

Divided Lives is a Historical Fiction story by K. R. Mullins. I am a big fan of the author’s Notebook Mysteries series and was very happy to see that the protagonist of this story is Emma’s niece, Lottie. Lottie seems to be influenced by her Aunt Emma. She takes risks at a time when women are not allowed and she is definitely her own person. Lottie is a lawyer who finds herself being blackmailed while being involved in a very high-profile case. I really loved the character of Lottie. She navigates her way through her troubles and comes out on the other side living her life the way she chooses to. This is a wonderfully written book full of suspense. The story is a must-read for anyone that enjoys historical fiction and mysteries.

I was drawn into Stumble and Fall from the cover art. This book warrents a strong trigger warning. The entire book focuses around sexual assault and rape. It was very intense and had me hooked from start to finish. I have not read the first book, so I may be missing some background information, but I still enjoyed the book independently. The beginning had me a little thrown off, trying to determine how all the characters were connected, but it came together mid book. The chapters alternate focus on two sisters- Tilly and Kate. They have similar jobs, both focused on helping those in need and taking down rapists. They have suffered massive tragedy in life but are strong and powerful women. I am not happy with the ending- Tilly’s ending was too abrupt in the epilogue. Kate’s story is left hanging, with a lot left to resolve. There better be a sequel to wrap up her case!
Highly recommend this book to those who love crime thrillers and mystery drama, but be cautioned of the content.

This book was a great cozy mystery! I enjoyed how they had called the paranormal creatures Mysticals. I, also, liked how the whole town looked like your normal everyday small town. This story had great start and a crazy cliff hanger of an ending. This book is a great cozy mystery with paranormal creatures with a wonderful, unexpected ending to a case.

I really enjoyed this historic mystery read! These books aren’t my typical books I would pick up, but I’m glad I did! It held my attention till the very last page. And there’s romance? I’m a sucker for a good love story! Lotties sexual preference isn’t what was really heard of back in the day. So when someone finds out she’s bisexual, they want to use it to their own advantage! It’s a spin off from the notebook mystery series so I LOVED reading about Emma and Jeremy again. I’ve read one book from that series and I really enjoyed that one too! Highly recommend this!

When I started reading this book I didn’t realise it was the second in the series. However, although I can see where the benefit would be in reading this series in order this book definitely stands up on its own. This is a much more emotional and in depth story than I was expecting. It covers some very intense and heart breaking topics but the author handles these effortlessly.
I was pulled into this book and the characters. They had such gripping storylines and I could see the development throughout the book. The first thing I will be doing is to go back and read the first book in this series.

Web of intrigue
This book has it all. The second in the series has Hunter and his crew smack-bang in the middle of a web of murder and mayhem. Again the author brings a strong plot line with amazing imagery that had me feeling every single moment. Once I finished the book I felt like I had just stepped out of the world and taken a breath. Highly recommend this book (and book 1) and I am so looking forward to reading more.
