The Crown of Stones: Magic-Price by C. L. Schneider – Review by Daree Blake

Magic-Price (The Crown of Stones, #1)Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ian Troy is haunted by the past, tempted constantly to repeat it and is bombarded by those who want to use him for their own confusing reasons. I liked Ian from the start, he has a good heart, a conscience and a need to do the right thing. Sometimes the right thing is not very clear. Ian doesn’t trust easily and finds himself alongside a couple of unlikely allies. He has a hard time believing in himself, but these two see there is something more to him.

The past, present and future are keys to this Crown of Stones story. Ian has endured really difficult things in this series and he is tested again in this one. There are many odds stacked against them and fate hasn’t been kind. I really didn’t want this series to end. I loved the characters and wanted them to have all that they had worked so hard to gain. I love these characters and will miss going on this difficult journey with them.

Magic-Borne (The Crown of Stones, #3)Magic-Borne by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an exciting conclusion to The Crown of Stones Series! Magic Borne is just as mesmerizing as the first two books in the series. C. L. Schneider pulls the reader in with amazing world-building, realistically flawed characters, and endless emotions and twists and turns. From the beginning of his journey, Ian Troy has intrigued me, infuriated me, and ensnared me in his web of magic. All of the books in this series are not for the faint of heart or for those looking for a short fantasy story. They are lengthy, but grab your attention and hold on tight until the very end! C. L. Schneider creates a world of emotion that is difficult to escape. The characters are unique in that I often found myself upset at something or “hero” did and found myself sympathizing with the “enemy.” That is a truly new perspective for me and any of the books I have read in my life. Often, books are more black and white, while real life rarely is. However, Schneider has created such realism in her writing that it mimics real life’s shades of darkness and light.

C. L. Schneider delivers again with Magic Scars, the second book in The Crown of Stones Series! The same memorable, imaginative, wonderfully flawed characters are present in this book. If possible, this book had me more emotionally invested, but also more exhausted. The intensity of the feelings in this book are stronger, the need to triumph more urgent. The vividly detailed world-building is built upon in this second book, and expanded upon. I found myself picturing the countryside, the mountains, the battles. This is such a great book and I cannot wait for the next one!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

C. L. Schneider delivers with this dark fantasy! What an amazing beginning to a series. Magic Price, the first installment in The Crown of Stones Series, is full of vivid detail, gloriously flawed characters, and such an imaginative, contradictory (to popular lore) take on magical beings. This complex, well-written story introduces the reader to Ian Troy, a Shinree witch, and his traveling companions. Twists and turns abound, but the story isn’t difficult to follow. There is so much information about each of the warring nations, Magic Price almost reads like a history book rather than a fantasy novel. Of the previous books I’ve read by C. L. Schneider, Magic Price tops the list! I cannot wait to read the next book.

OMG!! I thought the first two books had me hooked but damn this one REALLY kept me turning page after page and ignoring everything else around me! Sorry family LOL. I had to see how it would all turn out. I really went on a far more emotional rollercoaster then I would have initially expected from a Fantasy series. This author truly is AMAZING, creating characters, storylines and worlds that weave into your heart in totally unexpected ways. This should not be read as a standalone. You MUST start from the beginning of the series to fully enjoy this captivating, action packed world. You wont be disappointed in any way! Ian you will always hold a small piece of my heart.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Crown of Stones: Magic-borne by C.L Schneider is a book about The thrilling conclusion reveals Ian Troy’s destiny as well as the universe of Mirra’kelan.

The resistance was crushed all at once. There were deaths. Hope had vanished. Peace seeped through his fingers like sand grains. The Crown of Stones did likewise. Now that he has been driven into hiding, Ian Troy searches for a method to save the realm and its inhabitants from the cruel rule of Mirra’kelan’s new self-proclaimed ruler. He struggles to change things and protect the people he loves about because he is plagued by the knowledge of a horrible future. But fate has other ideas, and his power has betrayed him.

Each cast moves Ian one step closer to turning more into a beast than a man because he is marked by the crown and constrained by the transformation spell it contains. Every action draws the unfathomably close to death and destruction predicted in his vision. With Langor on the verge of war and King Malaq’s peace proposal in jeopardy, Ian travels back in time in search of a cure for the eldring spell and a way to stop the emperor’s expanding dominance. What he discovers there starts a series of revelations that take Ian in directions he never would have imagined.

Ian, who is given responsibility for his race’s destiny, emerges as the key to long-lasting reform. Just how much weight can a single man bear? And how much of himself is he prepared to give up for peace?

Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a unique dark fantasy trilogy. The story really brings passion into your life. I couldn’t put the book down. I have binge read the series at this point and I absolutely love it.

Magic-Price (The Crown of Stones, #1)Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Price by C.L Schneider is a book about A war-torn continent, a fallen race, and an epic narrative of a flawed hero.

Ian Troy has only ever experienced the ugliness of battle. What he ever desired was peace. When fate gave his battle-weary hands the ancient item with untold power known as the Crown of Stones, it had other ideas. He put an end to a battle that had been tearing the realms apart since before he was even born with one rash wish. and paid an extremely high cost.

Ian is still troubled by that horrible day ten years later. He tries to forget what he has done and whom he is while running from the blood on his hands and in his veins. Denial, however, is no longer an option when his past crashes into the present due to a fateful encounter with an attractive assassin.

Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a unique dark fantasy trilogy. The story really brings passion into your life. I couldn’t put the book down. As the story progressed, it made me glad I got the second one to get started on it right away.

I said it with the first Book and I will say it again I was completely hooked from start to finish! In fact I think this book had me even more hooked because i literally could not put it down. Again I don’t want to go into too much detail about storyline as I don’t want to give too much away but I will say we see Ian again after 2 years of being drugged, tortured and imprisoned. How quickly and completely this author gets me so fully immersed in this world is truly amazing. I could so easily imagine everything that was happening and envision it so clearly thanks to the fantastic writing of this author. I am not wasting a single minute before moving on to book 3.

This was a wonderful conclusion to a fantastic series. The author continues to do a great job of writing characters that feel so relatable, even in a world of magic. The author continues with a roller coaster of action and adventure. I loved how detailed and descriptive the story was, you really feel like you are there with the characters. I loved Ian and how he persevered through all of his trials and the strength he showed. This story will absolutely tug at your heart and keep you enthralled until the last page. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book has so much action and suspense and kept me turning the pages late into the night. There is so much history written in such vivid detail that it makes you think it is real and not fantasy. After three books I love the characters, Ian, Jarryd, and Malaq are the main trio and they fight and love and tease each other. Ian has to fight to stop his father, has to fight to figure out the Crown of Stones, has to fight to keep all the people around him safe. He often makes the wrong choice and bad decisions, but he overall wants to do good so you find yourself cheering for him. I love the magic in the series too, using stones to have powers. Ian is an erudite so he can do all, most people only have one magical ability. The description and thought that goes into the magical part of these books are amazing. This book is suspense, danger, steamy romance, and so much more. It was an epic ending to an epic series. As the third and final book in the series, I didn’t want it to end, so I was excited to see there are more books set in the same world!

I don’t want to go into too much detail about storyline as I don’t want to give too much away so I will just say that it is such an intricately woven and creative storyline, so packed full of action that you will not be able to resist turning page after page! I felt so fully immersed in this world. I truly could imagine everything that was happening and envision it so clearly thanks to the fantastic writing of this author. I can’t explain how or why it happened so quickly but Ian weaved his way into my heart right from the start and I know he will stay there for a very long time which is definitely not something I expected when starting a Fantasy series! The world building in the second book was just as good as the first! The places the characters go are so well thought out and described, I feel like I was right there with the characters. The castles, the prison, the ancient cities are all vividly written. I like that this book is told in the first person so you really get to know the main character, Ian Troy, even better in this one. Ian is coming off of the drug used to keep his magic suppressed and is having a lot of flashbacks to his time before being in prison and since then, it fills in holes in the story well. I really liked Captain Krillos in this book and the banter that he has with Ian. There were many of the same characters from the first book with even more added in this one. The story line is soooo good and kept me up late into the night reading so I could see what happened next. There is action, magic, death, romance, and so much more. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Magic-Borne (The Crown of Stones, #3)Magic-Borne by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you are a lover of fantasy, magic, and swords, then this series is for you.

Magic-Borne by C.L. Schneider is the 3rd and final book in the Crown of Stones series that is thrilling, fast-paced, and action-packed.

My toxic trait is having an unhealthy love and obsession for flawed characters, so my love for main character Ian Troy was next level. His transformation from anit-hero to hero was well written and great to experience. The supporting characters were just as loveable in different ways and such a joy to read.

The series, but especially this book, was well written with a developed plot full of twists and turns that end in a satisfying conclusion.

Happy Reading!

This is the final book of ‘The Crown of Stones’ trilogy and boy was it a wild ride. Ian Troy did a lot of growing up during this time. He went from being a hated anti hero to a liked hero. Being a Shinree is an automatic ticket to being hated by most but does this stop Ian? No.

Ian is still in hiding while trying to find his daughter and confront his father. He is also still trying to save himself from the inevitable doing of the crown. With the help of a weirdly diverse group, Ian travels in more ways than one.

I loved the previous two books of the series and I did enjoy this one but I must admit, it was my least favorite of the three. The first two books gave me Witcher vibes while this one is too different. I found it hard to follow along during some scenes of time travel. That’s the only downside in my opinion.

The book is set almost directly after the previous and jumps right in. If you did not read the first two books, you will be lost. The trilogy is amazing. The author wrote Ian with such depth and intensity that I have no idea how he managed to endure everything he went through. I am sad to see it end. I was introduced to this author’s books a couple years ago and I am so happy to go through this journey from start to finish. You can tell the author puts their heart and soul into the writing making the characters become more real. I can’t wait to see what the next thing the author has up their sleeve is!

She writes such an expertly detailed and genuine world that you’d think it was completely real! This book made me feel things! Troy’s suffering and anguish is vivid and emotional; it can be felt right down to the soul. His journey of rediscovering what happened is powerful! This series just keeps getting better and better!
