Aiko (Heartstrings Book 1) by Brooke May – Review by Tia Martel

AikoAiko by Brooke May
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Cupid doesn’t work alone. He has six assistants and Aiko is just one of them. Buuut Aiko is a little rough to say the least. Her helping couples find love has lead to some very questionable situations and once or twice she’s been banned from helping humans. Now, for her first return to helping in nearly 50 years, she’s gotta help a man who may be more disastrous in love than she is.

Alejandro Gomez has it all when it comes to looks, but when it comes to love? He’s a mess. Can Aiko help Alejandro find himself and find love?

I loved the idea of this book. A Cupid helping humans find love: great. A Clumsy, tried-too-hard Cupid aiming for redemption: awesome. Unfortunately, the book didn’t hit all of the points I was hoping for.

I found the start of the book to be hard to follow when Aiko was narrating and commenting on Alejandro’s disaster. This cleared up some as the book went on and the author found a rhythm in the story she’s telling.

In other areas, I felt that there were several mistakes in editing that lead to me needing to re-read or spend a little more time on the section to determine what was being said.

Throughout the book there were some really good parts and Aiko was a great character and you could really feel for her when something went wrong. I feel that the errors and beginning of the book really made it hard for me to follow at first, but I’m willing to try again with hook 2 of the cupids.

Malayeka (Heartstrings Book 3) by Brooke May – Review by Tia Martel

Malayeka (Heartstrings Book 3)Malayeka by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cupid can’t do it all. So while he’s busy, his six assistants are helping humans find true love. Malayeka is one of those assistants.

Two centuries ago Malayeka helped a family and today the repercussions are still stinging the small village clans. Malayeka is certain she can still complete this assignment and is determined to help her charge find love. But when the Reids and Thomsons feud is in front of her, she’s even more determined to help straighten things out.

A divided town, fighting families, and a love that is reminiscent of Shakespeare? What else could go wrong?

Book 3 was charming and quaint and very relatable when it comes to the love of sugar and sweets. In this book, Malayeka is given an assignment similar to one she’s had before, and even in the same town.

Our star crossed lovers are Billie and Leo. Two sides of a feuding town, and secret friends since childhood. It’s obvious there’s more to the story almost immediately and Malayeka is determined to not let history repeat and to help clean up a mess this towns been fighting for centuries.

This was a fun, entertaining read with a few mistakes throughout but enjoyable nonetheless. There were hints mentioned throughout that make me hope for more books. I mean with six assistants we have to have at least six books, right? But please tell me we will hear more about the hints throughout!

A unique idea with well known storylines has worked well so far, and I will be watching for more.

If you haven’t completely fallen in love with this series yet, you will be the end of this one! Book 3 features Malayela (Mala) and her quest to restore peace and harmony in a small town that she’s familiar with. The Reids and Thompsons fight like cats and dogs…or the Hatfields and McCoys.

This book is about redemption and righting wrongs..even if they are hundreds of years apart. Be sure to check out this fun rom-com! You won’t be disappointed!

Faida (Heartstrings Book 2) by Brooke May – Review by Julie Johnson

FaidaFaida by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Faida is book two in the Heartstrings series but this can be read as a standalone.

Faida is another one of cupid’s six helpers. Faida’s heart is as cold as ice because of a previous lover doing her wrong. She finds herself assigned to Robert who’s heart is even colder than hers, if that’s even possible. Can they melt the ice and find love?

This is another fun-loving comedic romance that reads pretty quickly. I’m finding this series to be going well and I look forward to reading more!

Aiko (Heartstrings Book 1) by Brooke May – Review by Julie Johnson

AikoAiko by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Aiko is quite possibly the worst choice Cupid could have made in an assistant. He needs some help though and Aiko is looking to make up for some past wrongs. When she runs into Alejandro, she has a newfound determination to do right for once. After all, she’s been eyeing him lately anyway.

This is a lighthearted, clean romantic comedy that is a bit of a welcome relief after some heavy reading and things that have been going on in my life. This is also a new-to-me author but not for long as I’m looking forward to reading more of her work in this series.

Beast (Popov Bratva #5) by Leslie Georgeson – Review by Angela Hayes

Beast (Popov Bratva #5)Beast by Leslie Georgeson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beast is the fifth book in the Popov Bratva series by Leslie Georgeson. I love this series so much, and it just seems to get better with each new instalment. Book #5 has proven to be another feather in Ms. Georgeson’s cap- another fantastic Bratva romance- a bit of an intense and emotional romantic suspense with lots of action, dramatic developments, tension, danger, intrigue, secret crushes, forbidden romance, scarred MC, sweet fMC, heart-wrenching details, chemistry, sizzle, endearing & interesting characters, mafia politics, and violence.
I loved Adrik (Beast) when I first met him in the previous instalment, even though he was just a supporting character. I knew there was so much more to him than what we were shown/told, and I wanted to know ALL the details—- so I was thrilled to find he was getting his own book.
What an emotional and heart-wrenching story he has to tell, my heart ached for what he had gone through. He and Anika are so sweet together, but these two have harboured secret crushes for quite some time, and being his boss’s daughter, and a Bratva princess, theirs is a forbidden romance. So that definitely throws some angst and drama into the mix. Add in the stalker element, danger, and drama- and things take an intense turn. Ms. Georgeson doesn’t make things too easy for them, making them work for any happiness and their chance for a HEA.
I highly recommend this addictive series. Each book could be read as a standalone, but, like me, you will probably find that one book isn’t enough and will end up binge reading the entire series….

The series consists of:
-Freak (Book One) ….. Zeke and Mia’s story
-Snitch (Book Two) ….. Sacha and Willow’s story
-Thug (Book Three) ….. Lev and Siena’s story
-Thief (Book Four) ….. Dom and Leah’s story (Dom is Lev’s twin brother)
-Beast (Book Five) ….. Adrik and Annika’s story (due for release in Oct 2022)
-Punk (Book Six) ….. due to release in March 2023

Happy reading!

Thank you, Leslie Georgeson!

The Daredevil (WaterFyre Rising, #2)The Daredevil by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I love this series and book 2 definitely did not disappoint!! I recommend reading this series in order as some of the storyline from book 1 is addressed in many ways in book 2.

I love meeting Michelle and Royce…..Michelle is a no holds barred travel blogger that is now taking her life in her hands with no one to dictate how she should live her life…..Royce is owner of his own companies and totally super smart…definitely science smarts…but when it comes to love and relationships he hold them from a distance. When Michelle runs into Royce in Iceland they realize they have mutual friends between them. Michelle and Royce knew each other from long ago….but now their attraction toward each other is totally scotching off the charts!!

When strange things start happening at Royce’s businesses….murder and accidents that are not explained…someone from his past is out to get revenge. When the revenge goes to far and also impacts Michelle…Royce will do everything in his power to keep Michelle safe…

This book had it all!! Hot sizzling moments, murder, intrigue, action and some mind blowing twists I did not see coming. I am totally enjoying this series and I am looking forward to seeing more to come for our WaterFyre Rising family!

The Daredevil is the second book in the WaterFyre Rising series by Nadia Han. It is a intriguing friends-to-lovers/billionaire romance. It’s a great addition to the series- a romantic suspense with plenty of intrigue, danger, mystery, tension, secrets, sensitive/trigger issues, chemistry, drama, and sizzle.
I do love this series, but it did take me a beat or two to connect with the characters and become invested in their story. I felt like the story was a little slow to get going, even though there were some ‘tense’ moments- and some of the dialogue at the beginning felt a little stiff. Then as the story progressed and the pace picked up, there seemed to be moments where the story slowed and dragged, before picking up again. But the sizzle, drama, and suspense made up for it in the end, so it didn’t detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story.
Looking forward to seeing what ‘The Innovator’ (Book #3) has in store for us (due to release in March 2023).
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Nadia Han!

This was my first read in this series and I wasn’t lost. This book was a quick read, and could pose as a stand alone. At times I felt like I was reading a romance about high schoolers and not adults. The way situations were handled and reacted to, didn’t match the character’s ages in my opinion. It’s a cute romance, but I wish the main characters were more mature.

The Daredevil is the second book in the WaterFyre Rising Series. This is a Friends to Lover’s Contemporary Romance that I absolutely loved reading. This is a fairly new author to me and I’m definitely going to check out what other books they have written. I found myself lost in the pages and couldn’t put it down till I finished. Can he be what she needs to fight the monster in her closet ? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author

Beast (a secret crush Mafia romantic suspense) (Popov Bratva Book 5)

I was so excited the Adrik got his own story. I have only read Dominik’s story so far but there was something very endearing about Adrik. As soon as I saw this was coming I knew I had to read it ASAP and I have no regrets.

Adrick has quiet the interesting back story which only made me like him more. His determination to make something of himself was admirable.

Annika is not the typical Princess, so someone coming for her made no sense. She simply wants to live as simple of a life as possible.

I was on the edge of my seat as I turned pages and may have lost track of time reading when I should have been doing other things like working.

I need to slow like down a bit so I can go back and read the others before the next book is released.

Painter of the Damned (Painted Souls Book 2) by Rob Samborn – Review by Jamie Burns

Painter of the Damned is not the typical genre that I read. I was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed the book. This is the second book in Rob Samborn’s series Painted Souls. I could not put this book down for fear of missing some amazing action. Samborn takes the reader on an action-packed adventure set in 1589 AD. Painter of the Damned includes historical aspects that draw the reader further into the story. If you are looking for a great action-packed adventure, look no further! I promise you will not regret reading the Painted Souls series.

I really couldn’t put this book down! It was a refreshing twist that was unexpectedly amazing. Give it a read!

Malayeka (Heartstrings Book 3)

As soon as I started reading this book I thought Hatfield & McCoy. I wasn’t far off, but this has an international flair to it.

Mala has played with this family in the past and wasn’t surprised things hadn’t changed much . She’s on a mission and is determined to be successful.

I was hesitant to read this book since I hadn’t read the others in the series but I’m so glad I did.

Billie and Leo dealt with the bad blood well, most of the time. I thought they were adorable and deserved happiness. Mala was most definitely my spirit cupid with the sweet tooth, if I were only as lucky as she was.

This was a very quick read and worth the time.

This was a really good book! There’s one circumstance that ties the characters together but for the most part this reads like a standalone so I don’t think you have to read the first book to enjoy this one. This book takes place in Iceland, and the imagery the author uses is just magnificent. I thought I was right there with them. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. The Daredevil is the second book in the Waterfyre Rising series, and it is incredible! I was captivated and breezed through the entire thing before I knew it! You can read this as a standalone if you so choose, but you don’t want to miss out on the magical writing of Nadia Han. I was at the edge of my seat and loved every minute of it.

Royce is our daredevil who loves adrenaline spikes and seeks the thrills that others shy away from. But underneath everything is a man who just wants to be loved and accepted. Michelle is traveling for a new job, but she has walls around her heart and emotions, unwilling to take risks again. Will they be enough to save each other from what they’ve accepted as life, or will they create another excuse to hide away?

You can feel the chemistry leaping off the pages and it comes so naturally, which was incredibly refreshing. This author will be a constant recommendation to anyone in my life for sure, I highly recommend it!

I had a hard time believing that this book would be better than the first since it was so amazing, but Painter of the Damned was absolutely stunning! I was engrossed in this book from the very first page to the very end.

Nick and Julia leave Venice with hopes of returning to a somewhat normal life after their terrifying ordeal called their honeymoon. With peace of mind setting in as they start heading home, they are apprehended before they can truly start their journey. They find out the person behind their capture is Salvatore, their worst nightmare. Salvatore intends to use Nick to obtain an all-knowing powerful book. Julia tries to help keep her husband sane in midst of this horrendous experience, but is her love enough to keep him tied to this world?

I can’t recommend this series enough! The author has woven an intricate blend of history and other worldly things that command your attention to the last word. You won’t be disappointed picking this up!

What a great beginning to a new urban fantasy series. This has all the elements I enjoy in a story. Romantic suspense, magic, ringing in the morse god and Ragnorak theme is a wonderful idea. Its fresh and the action in here kept me turning pages. The two characters are on a journey of self discovery as well as searching for the illusive bad guy. The evolution of these two main characters is as fun to read as watch and wonder what will happen next.

This is a first time author for me. The writing is smooth and the transitions help the story move along a rapid pace. I enjoyed reading this and look forward to more in this series.

This turned out to be a wonderful story! At first I was concerned about that is moving along at a slow pace with all the inter-speculation. That did bother me throughout the whole story but eventually I was able to get past it and get immersed into the story. The actual action and suspense throughout the story is attention grabbing. I loved that part of the story as well as the romance between Michelle and Royce. The connection between these two is cosmic and it is shown numerous times throughout the story. One of my favorite things is Royce’s job because of all the neat things I learned and I don’t think I have run across another one in my years of reading.

This story is filled with lovely sayings and thoughts. I loved that Royce is a volcanologist because that leads to a lot of cool and sweet sayings. One of my favorite…okay there is the T-shirt sayings (so cute!) but also:

“Love flows through all of us like magma flowing through the earth. Sometimes it takes an eruption for you to understand its beauty, its power, its essence—the love that is seeped within nature.”

Just makes me go Awe! See what I mean? Just filled with wonderful sentiment.

I really enjoy all the work this author puts into these stories. So many connections, fun filled times perfectly woven through the story. I get pulled into their lives and come to care about the characters and what is going to happen. I look forward to more from this series and this author.

Painter of the Damned is the second book in the Painted Souls series. Let me recommend reading the first book in this series before delving into this one. Nick and Julia are back and trying to get out of Italy but get waylaid. This is a fantastic book that kept me up late into the night. There is a dual timeline between the current day and the 16th century. I enjoyed the story and how it continued developing from the first book. I won’t say more about the plot because I do not want to take anything away from anyone else reading the book. If you enjoy historical fiction, art, thrills, and chills this is a great read to grab. Painter of the Damned (Painted Souls #2) by Rob Samborn

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. The author kept me entertained from the beginning. Painter of the Damned is the second book in the Painted Souls Series.

Julia is Nick’s wife and she is trying to figure out how to get them both home. Coming to Venice was a bad idea. Now she’s wishing she didn’t go. Can she get them out of there? The quote I chose for Julia is: “I hope that hurt. ‘What was that for?’ Are you serious? This better not be déjà vu, you a-hole. Gonna tell me what the hell you did to get Interpol involved, or what?”

Nick is getting images from a past life. Something that has happened since they got to Venice. Now he’s landed them both in some trouble. Will he be able to get what is needed done? The quote I chose for Nick is: “That’s who this is about. It’s gotta be, Jules. I met her for like five minutes. She’s Tintoretto’s descendant. She wanted to free the souls, too, and Della Porta friggin’ killed her. And now he’s trying to pin her murder on me.”

Highly recommended for Historical Thriller lovers.
