This book is three stories in one and they weave together wonderfully. This isn’t a genre I would nearly read but the originality and captivating stories kept me turning the pages. There are quite the array of characters in these stories that make this more interesting and bring you further into the depths of the storylines. The author writes in such a way that I felt I was taken on a majestic journey. The details make it so you feel as though you’re right there in the story. I enjoyed reading these short stories.

The end of the world is here. We are living in a time of witches, warlocks, gorgons, vampires and more. We follow Zoe in this new path of life and her new found friends. A good sci-fi type book to read, easy to follow and visualize.

Creatures of the Night by C.A. King

This is an urban fantasy novel with a bit of an apocalyptic vibe. A black mist descended on earth which brought to life monsters. Most of the human race was eradicated. The few that remained formed clans in an effort to protect themselves. Females possessed magic and the men became warriors. Zoe always had a different view on life. She was able to see the bigger picture. She always wanted to be a warrior. What good was magic if you didn’t know how to fight and protect yourself? Biding by society’s rules, she is placed at the academy to weird her magic. But what happens when she falls in love with a creature of the night?

This author has a very creative imagination. I have read many of her books. Although this was not one of my favourites, the story is interesting and enjoyable.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is not my first book by this author nor will it be my last. C.A. King is definitely becoming a favorite.

Things I loved most:
-Strong female lead
-supernatural
-relatable elements ( dating the wrong guy, being different, betrayal)
-easy to read and follow along
-Simone
-the tree
-how much Zoe is coming into her powers

Things I disliked:
-the book ending

Things I would change:
-at times it felt like the story jumped a bit kind of read like how a tv show would take place. It didn’t take away from the story but it had me question if I skipped a page

Anyways I need a sequel. I have to know what happens next. Will they fight the humans or vampires first? Can they reproduce and will the offspring be even more powerful? Will we get a glimpse into what really happened with the black mist?

I really enjoy this author’s books so much and I was already captivated by the cover and decided to dive right in. This paranormal fantasy story had betrayal, choices, creatures, magic, drama and a little bit of romance.

Zoe wants to be a heroine, born to be a fighter, along with her brother with high expectations from her family. When this mysterious black mist is upon, being aware of the creatures it may stir at night, Zoe wants to be ready to fight. Nothing is what it seems when Zoe is learning hard truths as she fights for her life. When Zoe falls for one of the notorious creatures, will things change or will the world turn their backs like that have been for so long leaving Zoe to fend for herself?

I would love to see more come from this story, from Zoe and Simone to possibly other creatures.. this story is engaging and intriguing.

This set of 3 novellas was a wonder to read. It follows 3 characters in each book and each with their own story to tell. It bases on post-climate change. Everything we know of has been changed, and not all of it is good. You have Coyote Jim, Rachel the Raven and Pete. Each has their own trials and hardships and all were interconnected. The writing was fantastic and really drew you in from the get-go and really made you think how climate change has really affected everything around us. Each story was compelling in their own way and had their own unique quirks about them.

A beautiful collection of three stories that take readers on a whimsical journey. Coyote Jim and Raven are shapeshifters whose characters are laced with so much depth. Their stories take you on a spiritual journey as they come to life on the pages. Though this collection has three separate stories, they flow together wonderfully, creating a great read. Even if this isn’t your usual preference for stories, I promise you will connect with the book and find something to take away from the thought-provoking pages.

Sessrúmnir (Antipodes Series Book 5) by T.S. Simons – Review by Rebeca Elliott Figueiras

Sessrumnir (Antipodes, #5)Sessrumnir by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in the Antipodes series, and it’s been a joy witnessing the character development and world building expand throughout the series.
Cam and Freja must once again come together, but this time it’s a little different. Their children are in danger, and they must work together to protect them despite their issues with each other. Given the previous books, I didn’t see this storyline coming, but it was so good!
As usual, this is an emotional journey for the characters as well as the reader as we are drawn into their lives, but well worth the emotional torment to see how it ends. I was again able to step into the story and picture myself there alongside the characters with the descriptive language used and the easy-to-follow writing style the author has makes the experience even more enjoyable.
The character’s emotions in this book felt that much more vivid and the turmoil they feel is heart-breaking. The progression in Cam and Freja’s relationship though left me hopeful and loving the two of them all the more!

The author is very talented in both their style of writing and their ability to create an ongoing narrative which constantly leaves you guessing. I will certainly be looking out for more books by this author moving forward.

Caim (Antipodes Series Book 4) by T.S. Simons – Review by Rebeca Elliott Figueiras

Caim (Antipodes, #4)Caim by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great book in the series, I’m not sure I’ll ever get bored of this author’s ability to surprise me and it keeps me hooked start to finish every time!
We once again join Cam and Freja in an impressively descriptive world which you can step into as you join the pair on their adventures. Things appear to be going well when a shocking development leads to yet another adventure in search of answers. There’s little I can say that I haven’t said after reading the previous books but wow. The world building as always is amazing and the characters are lovable and relatable, despite the hardships they face. I’ve been emotionally invested in Cam’s story since the first page of book one, and this has only increased as the books progress.
Their new journey leads to shocking answers and plot twists which leave you wanting to reach out and comfort the characters and yet you find yourself needing more which is why I am so happy there’s another book for me to dive into!
I need to know what is next for Cam and Freja and their relationship!

Ouroboros (Antipodes Book 3) by T.S. Simons – Review by Rebeca Elliott Figueiras

Ouroboros (Antipodes, #3)Ouroboros by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great read – the third book in this series is just as good as the first two. We once again encounter Cam on his journey to seek answers. We also find ourselves with Freja again and how the two navigate this dynamic was interesting to see given their past. This was made more difficult for them by the addition of new challenges and threats to their way of life.
The way the author is able to portray the complex emotions contained within is amazing. Everything is balanced so well – the intriguing plot and the character developments work so well together to create an emotional and gripping story.
Once again Cam takes the prize as my favourite. His misfortunes have obviously affected him as they would anyone, but his journey is not over as he continues his search for answers. With the author’s descriptive writing you feel as though you’re right there with Cam as he feels his pain and understanding that things are not easy for him, even as things start to become a little clearer.
I love the way that the books follow on from each other so well. I was a little concerned that the story may begin to go stale, but the author keeps managing to surprise me in the best ways!

The Liminal Space (Antipodes Book 2) by T.S. Simons – Review by Rebeca Elliott Figueiras

The Liminal Space (Antipodes, #2)The Liminal Space by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cam’s story continues in this second book of the Antipodes series. Again, I’m so glad I gave this genre a chance, I would have missed out on this amazing series if I hadn’t.
This book we once again follow Cam’s life post-outbreak. He’s now married and working hard within his new community but once again goes on an emotional journey to find someone he loves. In this book Cam remains relatable, his reactions and emotions are believable as his adventure continues, and his reality becomes uncertain once again. He remains my favourite character, his development only goes to improve him and adds to the story tenfold.
Despite the storyline appearing to be quite similar to the first, it’s entirely different in its own way so it isn’t repetitive or boring.
Just as with the first book, I was engrossed from beginning to end and a contributing factor to this is the fact that the author writes so well. The descriptive world building and the easy to follow writing style make the emotional journey we take with Cam as he begins to question what he knows, that much more enjoyable.
I’m sure the next book in the series will be just as good.

Antipodes (Antipodes Book 1) by T.S. Simons – Review by Rebeca Elliott Figueiras

Antipodes (Antipodes, #1)Antipodes by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There’s something about the way the author writes that even when nothing has happened yet, they still have you gripped and wanting more. I loved their writing style, it was descriptive whilst also feeling smooth and easy to follow.
I admit I was initially apprehensive as this isn’t my usual go to genre, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance!
I really liked the character of Cam; he was relatable from the offset. He was believable in how he overcame the struggles in the transition from his old life to his new one in a post-outbreak community. As is so often the case, just when things start to improve, something awful happens – his partner Freja goes missing. Cam sets off to look for Freja and going on his journey with him as he made connections to new people was heart-warming as he ventured out to find her but the choices he had to make, and the strength shown in his character development was emotional at times.
Much to my surprise (and delight), I found myself engrossed from start to finish, not just because of the great characters but also because of the world building produced by the author. I was able to picture myself in the world right beside the characters, travelling along with Cam as he searches for Freja.
I am so glad I gave this book a chance and have the rest of the series to look forward to!

Two decades have come and gone since the beginning of the storyline’s pandemic. Our fledgling societies have begun to struggle with fear, discrimination, and paranoia. This story does not disappoint! I relish the scientific details and information to be gleaned from reading these books. I feel they are well-researched. The science behind the details is explained in such ways that non-science lovers can understand. Another great read, and the introduction of another character’s point of view adds dimension to the story.

From the bliss of becoming a first-time parent, to the hope of a reunion with a close family member left behind. From betrayal to forgiveness to acceptance- things we all deal with in our own lives. Readers may laugh, and they may cry. One thing is for certain though: if you pick up this book, you will learn some geography, some science, and grapple with situational ethics like never before.

If a global pandemic hit Earth, and some people were chosen to survive it, would I make the cut? Absolutely not! I’d like to think that I am intelligent enough, but as for the other criteria- ages roughly 20-30, single, no children? Well, I’m single all right, my three kids are all in college, but I have family members that I help with. Commitments. This book is so fantastic with the details of how a community would get started, as well as the difficulties that would be faced. I am so glad it is a series, and I can hardly wait to delve into the second installment!

Just when you think Cam and Freyja, along with the other characters in T. S. Simons’s Antipodes Series, have had all they can take with their many, often perilous adventures, a new danger threatens all of the children. Sessrumnir definitely kicked my momma bear instincts into high gear. How far would you go to protect your own children? Connections must be strengthened and friendships must be tested in order for them to save their offspring. As with the other books in the series, T. S. Simons creates highly detailed settings so the reader feels like they are there with the characters. The characters continue to be lovable, realistic, and relatable. Especially the seemingly strong, tough, take-no-shit Freyja, who we find out is suffering from mental illness. This fifth book in the series definitely pulls at your heartstrings and keeps you on your toes from beginning to end.

Caim is the fourth installment in the Antipodes Series and this book seems even darker than some of the other books. Cam and Freyja must embark on yet another journey outside the safety of their dome on Lewis. Simons explores the nature of family, love, heartache, loss, and connection. Caim has the same realistic, lovable characters that I have come to feel connected with from the first three books. Having followed their journey from young adults thrust into a tough situation to the dynamic adults they have become, I am now invested in their survival and happiness. T. S. Simons is great at using descriptive language so the reader feels what the characters feel, the suspense, guilt, sadness, anger, happiness, etc. I can’t wait to read the fifth book!

Continuing the story from the second book, this third installment, Ouroboros, finds Cam on a journey to find closure following a harrowing series of events. Freyja joins him on the second part of his journey, and this is where things take a surprising turn. Freyja and Cam find themselves reconnected and happy, only to be thrust into more terrifying situations than anyone should ever have to endure. They arrive safely to their destination but begin to learn the real truth behind the selection of the survivors. This Antipodes Series continues to shock and amaze me. Not only does it explore friendships, love, survival, and community, but also touches on death, disease, science and the sometimes misguided truth behind why things are the way they are. I find myself conflicted on what I would do if thrust into a situation such as this. There are still such realistic, believable characters in Ouroboros as there are in the first two books. T. S. Simons also continues with amazing world building and scene development. On par with the first two books for sure, added with some heavy twists and turns!

The Liminal Space (Antipodes, #2)The Liminal Space by T.S. Simons

I enjoyed this book just as much as the first in the Antipodes Series, if not slightly more! Having already “connected” with many of the characters while reading the first book, I felt more invested in the outcome of the struggles. Cam, and the rest of the community on Lewis, learn that there were several more communities created than originally thought to ensure the survival of as many humans as possible. A list of those taken to these communities is circulated and Cam embarks on a new journey to find family. I found the idea of liminal space discussed in this book rather interesting. This is the idea that all of the big moments in our lives are connected by a transitional period, or liminal space, and neither can exist without the other. T. S. Simons delivers the same wonderful characters and world building as the first book and I am quickly moving on to the next book!

The events of the past few years made me a little reluctant to start reading Antipodes. However, I’m extremely glad that I did. T. S. Simons delivers a vast array of characters across many settings and communities as well as great world building in the first book of the Antipodes Series. Lots of character introductions take place in this first book, including Cam, Freya, Lae, and more. This dystopian romance really made me think about everything. If the world were to be threatened, how would humans react? How would we ensure the survival of the human race? Would we create some kind of completely new system or are we doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past? There was a lot of information in this book, but I didn’t feel like it was too overwhelming or difficult to follow and understand. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!

Sessrumnir begins completely different from where Caim left off as it has been 7 years since then. It has been 20 years since they started living in the domes. Needless to say, a lot has changed. Freyja, Cam, and their friends and family must again set off on an adventure to save the human population. This book has the heart of the others with now much older characters. I still enjoyed this book, but I feel like it was slower paced than the rest of the series.
