Our Unexpected Hope By Michelle Sullivan – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Our Unexpected HopeOur Unexpected Hope by Michelle Sullivan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

WOW!! What a whirlwind! I picked up “Our Unexpected Hope” today and couldn’t put it down until I was done! Quinn is in her early twenties and helps her dad run their photography company. She has never had a real relationship, but knows exactly what she wants in life after seeing her how in love her parents are. Noah is the head chef of a restaurant that Quinn frequents and has gazed from afar until she comes in for a photo shoot and he changes their lives forever. Their whirlwind romance is a beautiful read. The time together might be short, but the time spent is quality time. I can’t give away any details, but these two really get put through it! I nearly cried about four times, and I NEVER cry when I read! If you want a sweet but serious romance, this is the book for you! Just have the tissues ready! I really loved the journey these two went on to get to the end, again no details, but it’s very fitting. I give Michelle Sullivan’s “Our Unexpected Hope” five teary eyed stars!

Eternal Bloom By A.E. Gamrat – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Eternal BloomEternal Bloom by A.E. Gamrat
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Eternal Bloom” is the sequel book to “New Bloom” by A. E. Gamrat, so make sure you read “New Bloom” first! Gwen’s mother was rushed to the hospital at the end of “New Bloom” and “Eternal Bloom” picks up right where “New Bloom” left off, with Gwen and her father nervously waiting for information. I don’t want to give anything away but I felt like I was holding my breath the whole book, waiting to see how things would go for Gwen and her family. I’d been wanting her to stand up for herself and tell her parents what she was really feeling! Her new relationship with Kame being rocky and her relationship with her parents being about the same, I was worried how things would turn out. This book was a lovely ending to the story, but I feel like there is more to tell with Gwen’s best friend Lena and their oldest friend, Tyler. Hopefully, A.E Gamrat has more in store for us! This really was a lovely book that showed me that what you don’t know about a person can be just as important as what you do know. So, I give “Eternal Bloom” four stars!

New Bloom By A.E. Gamrat – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

New BloomNew Bloom by A.E. Gamrat
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gwen is a recent college graduate who always knew that after she was done with school, she wanted to move home and help her parents run their flower shop. Ever since she was young, she has loved flowers and her parent’s shop gave her the perfect outlet for that passion and even drove her to study business in college to help with managing the shop. The practical application of that dream just isn’t turning out how she hoped. Her tenuous relationship with her mother makes everything difficult, especially when she meets the mysterious Kame. It is a rare thing when a book makes me cry, and “New Bloom” quite nearly had me there! Graduating college and following your dreams should be a happy and exciting time and Gwen isn’t getting any of that happiness or excitement. My heart went out to her as she is dealing with all these experiences, none of which I’ll be giving away, but let’s just say it made me inhale this story. A.E. Gamrat tells the story almost as if it is Gwen’s diary, giving us her deepest thoughts, fears and anxieties. It is beautifully sad yet hopeful, kind of like Gwen herself. I’m eager to read the next book in the series “Eternal Bloom” so I can find out what happens next, as “New Bloom” ends with a cliffhanger! With that, I give “New Bloom” four stars!

The Jack (The Immortal Series Book Two) By M.K. Harkins – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

The Jack (The Immortal Series Book Two)The Jack by M.K. Harkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“The Jack” is the second book in the riveting The Immortal series by MK Harkins. Please read “The Reader” first so you know what is going on! First of all, I just need to say “HOLY MOLEY!!” “The Jack” was SO good! I knew it would be, because I LOVED “The Reader” and this series is blowing my mind how good it is! “The Jack” gives us a different perspective than “The Reader” but with the same main characters, plus the lovely addition of Sadie. This story is about Archer and Sadie, a mysterious woman that Archer meets while keeping an eye on Devon and Ann. I won’t give away details but I was so surprised by the direction MK Harkins has taken with this book and makes me so excited to read more about these amazing characters! The story is so different that any story I have ever read and I’m eating it up! The originality, surprise twists and amazing imagery make this book a must read page-turner! So much love for MK Harkins and the mind blowing The Immortal series! I give “’The Jack” five whole hearted stars! I wish I could give more to truly convey how much I loved this book!! MK Harkins, PLEASE keep them coming!!

Self Love: A British Tale of Woe and Wit By TL Clark – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Self LoveSelf Love by T.L. Clark
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Self Love” by TL Clark is a lovely story about an overweight, unhappy woman named Molly and her challenges in life. Molly owns her own floral business and is always around very happy brides to be which tends to bring her down as she can’t find love herself. Add in an overbearing mother who can’t say anything nice and general low self-esteem and Molly is a bit of a wreck. Molly is a very relatable character who says so many things I’ve heard many woman, including myself, say before. Her struggles are very real and honest and that makes her quite lovable to me. I found the story to be a less raunchy “Bridget Jones” type story filled with fun British terms and written almost as a diary. TL Clark’s story is one I believe many women could benefit from reading as the moral is the title and that self love is necessary and important to us all. If you like a sweet romance, or if you struggle at all with loving yourself then please read this book! I give “Self Love” by TL Clark four stars!

The Reader (The Immortal Series Book One) by M.K Harkins – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

The ReaderThe Reader by M.K. Harkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“The Reader” by M.K. Harkins is the first gripping book in The Immortal Series by M.K. Harkins. This book blew me away with the originality of the story, amazing characters and nearly non- stop action. To say I was pulled to it is an understatement. I couldn’t stop thinking about it! It starts with a young woman waking up on a beach, not knowing who she is or where she is. From there, the story gets crazy good but I don’t want to give away any details because they are SO GOOD! If you like books that are a bit off the norm, you will love this book! M.K Harkins has built such an interesting world with “The Reader” and I’m hoping for many books to follow! M.K. Harkins really keeps you guessing until the very end how everything will shake out and even in the end, I’m still not sure what lies ahead but I know I can’t wait to read it! This book isn’t very long, so give yourself a few hours to devour this book and get ready for “The Jack!” I clearly give “The Reader” five stars and would give more if I could!

The Last Keeper of the Light: a dystopian fantasy by Nikki Broadwell – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

The Last Keeper of the Light: a dystopian fantasyThe Last Keeper of the Light: a dystopian fantasy by Nikki Broadwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I find myself a little speechless as I have just finished “The Last Keeper of the Light” by Nikki Broadwell. This intense dystopian novel is about Sandal, only a child when the end of days begins, and her life long struggle for survival. Sandal and her people know the grid has gone down but the why is always on her mind. Many times in this book, I see direct correlations to current events in 2018. Nikki Broadwell has woven a beautifully dark tale that rings all too true in parts of the story. Her ability to blend facts with fantasy is wonderful and almost prophetic of a future we may actually be facing. This isn’t a high fantasy filled with creatures that don’t exist, so it’s even scarier for me since the world she laid out is eerily possible. It is a fantasy after all, so some bits you need to keep an open mind about. I’m normally not one to read apocalyptic novels, but the description of this one really hooked me and kept me fascinated until the very end. I wasn’t sure how this book would end but I can tell you I was very surprised. Her vision for this story was truly compelling and even if the ending left me a little out of sorts, I can appreciate how Nikki Broadwell came to it. So, I give “The Last Keeper of the Light” five stars!

Just Exes By Charity Ferrell – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Just ExesJust Exes by Charity Ferrell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Just Exes” is the third book in the Blue Beech series by Charity Ferrell but can be read as a standalone as I did. This wonderful story of love, loss and forgiveness is about Gage and Lauren, High school sweethearts who didn’t last. Gage has tried to move on with his life and pursued his dream of becoming a cop while Lauren followed her dream of being an ER nurse. Ten years of space stands between them when they see each other again after Lauren’s apartment complex catches fire and Gage in on the scene, to arrest Lauren. This story is so much more than your normal boy meets girl or boy and girl hate each other(but do they really?) type books I have read in the past. This story is deeper and more emotional than one would think from its description. I couldn’t stop reading this book. I got completely pulled into the story and loved it! The depth of the story and characters was so beautifully written. I can’t say a whole lot more about that because I don’t want to ruin any of it with details here, but do yourself a favor and lose a few hours to this book. As I mentioned, I didn’t read the previous stories in the series about Lauren’s brothers, but after reading this book I think I have to! I love the family that Charity Ferrell has written about and can’t wait to find out more! Five obvious stars to “Just Exes” by Charity Ferrell!

Wish I Had a Nickle (The Sand Dollar Series Book 2) by JD Boudreaux – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Wish I Had a Nickel (The Sand Dollar Series Book 2)Wish I Had a Nickel by J.D. Boudreaux
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

You know that moment when you are reading a book and you realize that there isn’t enough time left in the story for everything YOU want to happen in it? Yeah, that happened to me with “Wish I Had a Nickle” by JD Boudreaux. This story is about Alex and Leigh, born two days apart and best friends since birth. Their mothers met in the hospital and became friends, and the children became very close. I don’t want to give anything away but time passes and Alex and Leigh reconnect, and that’s mostly where the story takes place. I love how JD Boudreaux laid out the story. It isn’t your common boy meets girl story told from each person’s side either. There are flashbacks and details that get sprinkled in that surprised me as a reader since most authors I’ve read don’t write like that, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! “Wish I Had a Nickle” was one of those books I didn’t want to end, as I loved being wrapped up in the story of Alex and Leigh. This is the second book in the Sand Dollar series. I did not read the first book and I do not think that hindered me at all while reading this one, but it is good to know and read in order if you feel you need to. I give “Wish I Had a Nickle” five stars, even if I wish it was longer! Fortunately for me, the next installment “The Broken Sand Dollar” comes out in February! I know I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for it!!

The Flip (Romance in Rehoboth #2) By K.L Montgomery- Review by Emily Brockschmidt

The Flip (Romance in Rehoboth #2)The Flip by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sonnet is a career driven perfectionist. Andrew is a late twenties bartender who lives with his parents. Sonnet and Andrew grew up together and have hated each other for years after competing for every academic achievement in their school careers. The only thing that kept them close during school was Andrew’s Aunt Penny who was Sonnet’s next door neighbor. Aunt Penny has big plans in store for them and the trouble ensues! This book was such a fun, quick read! I love the whole enemies finding a common ground and becoming friends trope, especially when it involves such interesting characters as Sonnet and Andrew. This is the second book in the Romance in Rehoboth series, but doesn’t necessarily need to be read in order. I recommend reading “Fat Girl” first so you get a better feel for some characters that are in both books. Sonnet is such an amazingly bright and complex character to read about. I loved hers and Andrews’ passions in life and how driven they are by them. This book truly was just enjoyable to read! I give “The Flip” five stars!!

Plot Twist (Romance in Rehoboth #3) By K.L. Montgomery – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Plot Twist (Romance in Rehoboth #3)Plot Twist by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! What a fun book! As a lover of musical theatre, this book was right up my alley. I used to do plays and musicals in high school and this book really took me back to all the fun, all the drama and all the friends I made during theatre. This book is about Lindy, an overweight teacher who is too scared to try out for a major role but certainly has the chops for it! Meric is a slightly OCD accountant recovering from heartbreak, and is captivated by Lindy when he hears her sing. This book has all the common pitfalls of community theatre and oh so much more! I really loved reading about these characters and what the show means to them. As a warning, this book is the third in the Romance in Rehoboth series and I highly recommend reading the first two books to get a feel for the area and the people who crop up. This is such a fun series and I love every minute of it! So, of course, I give K.L Montgomery’s “Plot Twist” five stars!!

Fat Girl (Romance in Rehoboth, #1) By KL Montgomery – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Fat Girl (Romance in Rehoboth #1)Fat Girl by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Fat Girl” is an inspiring tale of growth and inner strength by K.L. Montgomery. Our “Fat Girl” is Claire, who has battled body image issues from a young age and finds herself at 38 and desperately needing to reinvent her life. She is a wise, witty and wacky character who I ended up really relating to by the end of the book. The story reads like a diary, a nearly weekly account of Claire’s attempts to change her life. While the story tends to get long winded in parts, I found the details to really help explain how Claire thinks and how she acts. This is a story I feel like many women can relate to on some level. Whether their love life is in trouble or the battle with weight and body image issues, I feel many women could benefit from reading this. As a person who struggles with weight, I knew this book would speak to me. I had no idea just how much I would get from this story though. Claire seems like she could be any one of us and that makes her so relatable! So, I give “Fat Girl” five stars!!

The House that Adelia Built By Mya O’Malley – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

The House that Adelia BuiltThe House that Adelia Built by Mya O’Malley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! Where to start?! I just love Mya O’Malley’s books! This is the fifth book by her that I’ve read and they all have been so wonderful! In “The House That Adelia Built” we meet Adelia in 1876 and Hope in 2017, two women who love the same lighthouse and live to care for it. Hope is a shy, soft spoken woman who always had trouble making friends besides her roommate, Tracy. Adelia is a lonely woman with only her gin swilling husband to talk to, who is desperate for a real friend. Mya O’Malley beautifully blends the stories of the two women with alternating chapters, giving us a glimpse forward and back to weave the story together. I absolutely devoured this book in a few short hours as it is packed with a great story and even some romance. Mya O’Malley is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine and I’m always excited when a new book comes out and this book did not disappoint! This story has some ties to “Lillie”, another Mya O’Malley gem and I love that she does those little story touches for the people who have read a lot of her other books! If you like romance and a bit of the paranormal then Mya O’Malley’s books will be right up your alley! I give “The House That Adelia Built” five stars!!
