Boy on Hold by JD Spero – Review by Erica Fish

Boy on HoldBoy on Hold by J.D. Spero
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was amazing!!! I love the mystery/thriller genre. It keeps my adrenaline going. This is my first book by JD Spero and it will not be my last. The plot line was engaging and fast moving. I could not turn the page fast enough to see what was going to happen next. The character development really enhanced the story for me. I found myself yelling at the characters to try to give them a heads up what is coming down the pike for them. This story is about the Trout family. There is something not quite right with the family. There may be secrets that may come out. What will the investigation bring to light? I highly recommend this story as it will keep going until the very last page.

The Labyrinthine Journey (Servant of the Gods Book 2) by Luciana Cavallaro – Review by Erica Fish

The Labyrinthine Journey (Servant of the Gods, #2)The Labyrinthine Journey by Luciana Cavallaro
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My heart is still racing from the adrenal rush from this story. One of my favorite topics is Mythology. I love the gods, demi-gods, and the history around them. Luciana Cavallaro is a mastermind. She has created worlds for her characters to come to life. The absorbent amount of details paint a vivid picture that one can see. There is everything you would expect in a historical fantasy story: adventure, action, gods, mythology, drama, prophecy and relics. Her characters fly off the page which makes the story all around awesome. Evan is in the 21st Century world. He was taken to Ancient Greece. He needs to complete some tasks for his father Zeus. That is how he will return to the 21st Century. Will Evan complete his tasks? Will he survive the journey? I highly recommend reading this heart pumping story to find out the answers to these questions and many more adventures that are within the pages of this book.

Boundaries (Scope of Practice Book 1)Boundaries by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book really made me think about my boundaries. Jessica Aiken-Hall does a masterful job in this suspenseful, mystery, crime genre. There are twists and turns and drama around every corner. The main character is smart, witty, and an introvert. This story kept me at the edge of my seat. Valerie is the “anti-social social worker”. She works with people who are primarily dead. This is one part of her job she likes. She has boundaries and she sticks to them. If you have boundaries how willing are you to cross them. In this book, Valerie has to cross them. I highly recommend this story. It will keep you going to the last word.

Eagle of the Empire (Relic Hunters) by Martin Ferguson – Review by Erica Fish

Eagle of the Empire (Relic Hunters, #1)Eagle of the Empire by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This YA adventure story, for me, was a great mix of adventure with a mix of mystery throughout. The characters are complex. I feel like the characters can cross over into the real world. The plotline held my interest until the last word of the book. There are many elements the characters go through to find the relic they are looking to collect. Adam discovers the stories he was told as a young boy contains truth then he really knew. Adam is trying to save his brother’s life. Will he find the relic he is looking for? I encourage you to read this book, especially if you are a young adult.

This book was enjoyable from the first page to the last page. Young adult books are becoming a genre for everyone. I tend to read the books before I let my daughters read them. In this book, there are tender moments, trouble times, and emotional roller coaster rides. The characters are easy to relate to and believable. This story is about Rocky. Rocky’s father has just passed away. He thought he knew his father, until he overheard his mother talk about his father. Rocky is now in a new neighborhood, new school, and has this hanging over his head. He heads on an adventure with his friend Olive to find out the truth about his father. Sex-O-S; The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time (Italian Teens, novel 2, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B Amman – Review by Erica Fish

Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time (The Italian Saga, #4)Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time by Gaia B. Amman

An author who was not afraid to discuss what topics are on teen’s mind. Gaia Amman is an amazing author who tackled a topic that most people shy away from. The story moves along and I was turning the pages just as fast to see what was coming.. The story takes place in Italy. Leda is a young adult who is thinking about going all the way with Nico. Nico is the bad boy (who doesn’t fall for the bad boy). This is a hot topic among young adults. I love the way the story talks about young adults and their emotions. I highly recommend this book to young adults and to others just to enjoy the emotions of the young adult and the difficult times that come with that age.

Bargaining (Hero High Book 3) by Mina Chara – Review by Erica Fish

Bargaining (Hero High, #3)Bargaining by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am loving the Hero High series by Mina Chara. I highly recommend reading the first two books in this series to get an understanding of Friday Fitzisimmons story. The adventure continues at Hero High in Icon City. It is because of Friday that I love this series. She is so innocent and inquisitive. Mina Chara did an amazing job with her attention to detail and character development. Not only did she create amazing characters but also a high tech world to entertain the reader. Friday is still trying to work on her life. She is a little confused in who she can trust and if the people in her life can help her. She is trying to be a good hero but is her faith in people stirring her in the wrong direction? I highly recommend this book as you will not want to put it down.

Every Last Psycho: A Collection of Two Novellas by Zarina Macha – Review by Erica Fish

Every Last Psycho: A Collection of Two NovellasEvery Last Psycho: A Collection of Two Novellas by Zarina Macha
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am a little in shock about these two novellas. Zarina Macha writing was full of webs that are woven around the main characters of the stories. Her characters fully support the story but I honestly had a hard time making it through the novellas. I could not get the visions of the main characters out of my mind. I think what bothered me the most is that this can happen and how upsetting this can be not only for the person but also the family members. These stories are definitely for young adults over the age of 14. In both stories, the main characters have skeletons (demons) in their closet. The stories are horrid and hard to read, but I am glad I did finish the stories. I recommend this book. It is an eye opener when you start to think that this could happen in the real world.

When I picked up this book I was not sure if I was going to like it. I read a couple of reviews to see what I was going to read about. It is interesting when you rely on reviews to see if this book is the one you are going to like or not. There are so many opinions that I decided that I was going to read it and come up with my own conclusion. This story is based on the original Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. There is a definitely a feel of mechanical and historical feel to the story. There is the element of culture to the story as well. It is an enjoyable book and I highly recommend it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story was amazing. I love when authors are so talented to be able to go back and forth from past to present. It is even better when it can flow in such a way that I do not get confused. This is a mystery novel, but there are so many other elements to the story. We have mystery, secrets, deception, regrets, lies, and truth. This story is a fast read but I encourage you to take your time. You do not want to miss any clues of what and what is going on now. The characters are believable. You can fall for some of the deceptions and then you get angry all over again. When the past catches up to you will you be able to face it with a clear conscience? I highly recommend this story. I cannot wait to see what Shanessa Gluhm has in store in her upcoming novels.

Why (Stalker Series, #2)Why by Megan Mitcham

This is the second book in the Stalker Series but it can be a standalone novel. I highly recommend the first book as well. Megan Mitcham draws the reader right into her stories. With her characters who you can relate to and her story line that keeps you on the edge of your seat it will hook you from the first sentence until the last sentence. Being that this is a psychological novel you would expect some curves in the story, but man there were times I did not see the curve coming. It is a fast read but make sure you do not read too fast and miss the clues to see what will happen next. I highly recommend this book. Megan Mitcham is an author to watch.

If you liked Denial, then you will love Anger. Mina Chara picks up right where Denial ended. I love the characters with her story. There is one small problem, you do not know who are the bad people and who are good people. One way Mina Chara held my attention is that every time I think I know who is who here comes a detail to deter me from finding out the answers I seek. It is a fast pace story. It kept me at the edge of my seat. The mystery and adventure will keep you wanting more and more. I highly recommend reading Denial first so you can get all of the groundwork for the characters as well as Icon City. Then I would read Anger to see what else is going on.

This story is set in the future, in 3034 to be exact. It takes place in Vienna Austria. I have never been there, but I could imagine it quite clearly with Bree Lewandowski’s descriptive text. The story is considered a dystopian romance book. I love the characters in this book. It makes it come alive. I felt like I was right there with Thea going through everything with her. Thea is one strong cookie. She can hold her own. I would not mess with her at all. I recommend this story. I think you will enjoy the journey with Thea as I did.
