My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love to use my imagination when reading books like these as I travel to other places, new and exciting. This book takes us into a magical place and teaches us some valuable lessons along the way. Prepare to be taken away as sister Scheherazade could have scarce couldn’t have dreamed of. A tale of glorious, afflicting, tenacity and of course a great tale of devotion.
As they sleep through the night to tale sweet little lies, their truth comes out in daybreak. In ancient times, there was such a thing as corruption spanned through the desert.
Ali bin-Massoud is on assignment in England far from his home as a pupil to Charles Babbage. A clockwork falcon drops off a peculiar box but it changes Ali’s life in unexpected ways. Distress, endangerment, and poachers are on his trek as Ali is summoned home for the death of his father.
It will take conviction, comprehension, devotion and serendipity and more than a little mastery with steam-driven automation. Can he unravel the mystery of the puzzle box and the clockwork djinn before time runs out? An ancient patrimony and Ali’s very life depend on his victory.

Phoenix Team One: Selected (Mythical Alliance: Phoenix Team Book 1) by Claire Luana – Review by Faith Jackson

Phoenix Team One: Selected (Mythical Alliance: Phoenix Team Book 1)Phoenix Team One: Selected by Claire Luana
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Be prepared to have your socks knocked off your feet as you get eclipsed in this magical tale following these heroines on their adventures in this book for the ages. This book gives you “Agent of Shield” vibes and I can dig it being a comic book geek. The main characters are heroines, on incredible journeys, and indescribable romances!
In this book we follow Zariya Chanji who believes her father was murdered. She’s determined to uncover what happened even if it means breaking into the headquarters of one of the most dominant operations: the Mythical Alliance of Supernatural Creatures also known as MASC. MASC control the way superheroes live she believes they had a hand in her father’s murder but she’s not certain of why.
When her exploration leads her to the arms of a handsome vampire who is hot on her trail, she feels closer to the truth. She doesn’t know who to turn to or where to turn as the plot thickens. The struggle is to stay alive to unravel the mystery of her father’s death.
This a great read to get wrapped up in at the time of this quarantine and pandemic engulfing us all in fear. It allows us to escape into a different mode. I was surprised and found this book rather entertaining for so many reasons. Check out this page-turner and you won’t be able to put it down as you read cover to cover!

Lucifer’s Emblem: A Paranormal Academy Novel (Celestial Academy Book 1) by Sarah Biglow & Molly Zenk – Review by Faith Jackson

Lucifer's Emblem (Celestial Academy, #1)Lucifer’s Emblem by Sarah Biglow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Lucifer’s token seal — his only protection against the fallen angels who ejected him from, is stolen, his very own daughter, Zuri locates it at the Celestial Academy. As a degenerate, she’d never been allowed to enter the school for the heirs of angels and saints. Under a false persona, it leads her straight to Miryam bat-Michael.
Daughter of fallen angel, Michael, Miryam is a far cry from the angel her dad is. Seeking approval and devotion from her father who’s barely around, she’s looking for love in all the wrong places even if that means befriending Zuri who no one else seems to favor.
A speculative bond unfolds as the two unravel the mystery of the thief’s true intentions. As doomsday is about to unfold the world, only Zuri’s blood can break the seal. Zuri’s only hope is to put all her trust in Miryam but is their bond enough to prevent the worst from ending the world as they know it?
This has most definitely been an entertaining, page-turner of a read and was unpredictable from start to finish. Action-packed and worth the read. Check out this beautiful story!

Hawk's Cry (Satan's Devils MC Second Generation #2)Hawk’s Cry by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is practically a coming of age story. Just the kind I love and Manda Mellett makes it that much better. When I read books like this, I can’t help but to love the journey the characters take along the depths of their time. The tests and experiences in life as in this builds character and endures our love. This is a beautifully written book that is a must-read!
You would think Eli has it all being the vice president of the biker club, “Satan’s Devils.” Eli AKA Hawk is married to the love of his life, his ride or die, and she’s expecting his child in six months.

Every Last Psycho: A Collection of Two Novellas by Zarina Macha – Review by Faith Jackson

Every Last Psycho: A Collection of Two NovellasEvery Last Psycho: A Collection of Two Novellas by Zarina Macha
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book contains two novellas about two different teen girls. Both hit you upside the head and you don’t know which way to turn as you feel empathy and compassion for both characters as they go through life’s motions all on their own. I loved each novella for two different reasons but I’ll explain later in this review.
In “Every Last Psycho,” you find yourself feeling nothing but compassion for 16-yr-old Tess as she’s lost her brother which is a tough pill to swallow as she struggles through life without him. That is until she meets Ed who helps her cope with the loss and live life joyously but she didn’t plan to fall for him since the favor isn’t always returned. Agitated and upset by Ed’s girlfriend, she’s now turned to drugs to cope. As the reader, you’re praying and hoping poor little Tess finds her way back to sobriety and in better mental health because she could most definitely use a break. This book triggered me a lot and stirred a lot of pent-up emotions. I most definitely enjoyed reading it, though.
In the second novella, “Psycho Girl,” we meet 18-yr-old Evelyn as she hides behind her exterior persona: typical type A personality. That is until she applied to the University of Cambridge and didn’t get in. Evelyn turns into someone unrecognizable as her perfect image fades away. Homicide, deception, and exploitation follow as not only does Evelyn become a narcissist but a complete psycho! Is it too late for those she loves to see or is she doomed at her own fate?
This collection of novellas has its share of twists and turns for both main characters and it keeps you addicted to each page! The fact you don’t know what to do or how to feel about them and their life is unpredictable. I couldn’t help but feel Tess’ pain and despair while Evelyn was harder to love but you know why she did what she had to do. All of this and more make you very entertained by which way it will all end. These are original books with original plots from an author I recommend reading again and again. The twists of Evelyn’s life are very realistic as I’ve dealt with my share of narcissists and their control of fearing what’s uncontrollable.

Enemies of Doves by Shanessa Gluhm – Review by Faith Jackson

Enemies of DovesEnemies of Doves by Shanessa Gluhm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The story sets off in 1932 on a summer night for two brothers, Joel and Clancy Fitchett. Clancy is unconscious and Joel is the older brother carrying him to rescue. They both “don’t remember” what happened but Joel has a permanent reminder in the form of a face scar.
Thirteen years down the line, they’re still experiencing tremors of that ill-fated night as they’ve made a forever pact amongst the two of them. In the middle of a murder investigation, the brothers decide a course of action that changes their lives forever.
In 1991, college pupil Gary Stark, embarks on a journey to Texas where he believes he’s found his long-lost biological grandfather in Clancy. Clancy’s been missing since 1946 but Gary wants a family in finding his grandfather. Unbeknownst to him, he’s about to discover more than he’s bargained for in sixty years of secrets Joel, Clancy and the love of their life, Lorraine have hidden from the world.
This book has you traveling from WWII to 1992 where we discover concealment, solitude, resentment, and deceitfulness from the fans of these authors.
This is the best thriller and crime book I’ve read in awhile. I love the layers of the story as the mystery of it unfolds through different time periods. It’s fun and addictive to read on a multitude of levels. Fantastic writing from the authors as well. In this almost-realistic feel, I found it inspirational at how much the characters were able to overcome and live through. This was definitely a page-turner. Haunting and unpredictable, it took me to places I never knew I could go. I’ve cried through some pages as well. Action-packed with the way it took us through different times with the characters. Tragic in what these characters had to endure in so many ways. The story is so original and twisted, it leaves you craving more of each page.

The Seal of Solomon – Lilandra’s Reeves Adventure (Supernatural Intelligence Agency Book 2) by Nadine Travers – Review by Faith Jackson

The Seal of Solomon: A Lilandra Reeves Adventure (Supernatural Intelligence Agency: World Book 2)The Seal of Solomon: A Lilandra Reeves Adventure by Nadine Travers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve read Nadine Travers’ books in the past and they’ve had an effect on me in an amazing way. She writes in a powerful way because not only is she an amazing writer but her books take you to a different place. Her works keep you entertained in some of the best ways. Her work is unpredictable in the ways that keep you tuned in to reading more and her characters are easy to love with each book. Just like previous books I’ve read from this author, it’s action-packed and original with great world building which takes it to another level but makes it easy to read.
In this book, someone wants authority over the incubus. Using the Seal of Solomon, he magically summons combatant master, Lilandra Reeves.
Lilandra has to proceed to Vancouver to secure the release. Lilandra lives with guilt from her past as her partner’s death but since she’s become committed to the coven.
When the werewolf, Donovan, begins to bargain with her: He guarantees that for the head of the organization, he could bring her partner back to life. If she brings the seal to his lady, as opposed to her coven.
Lilandra is between a rock and a hard place as she doesn’t know which side to choose. What do these two breeds want with these magical entities? Will she fall for the deal with the devil at a promise to bring her mate back?

Throwback by Zeia Jameson – Review by Faith Jackson

ThrowbackThrowback by Zeia Jameson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Livy and Jeremy come from both sides of the spectrum as far as love goes. It’s like they speak two different languages and from two different planets. Livy being from Mars and Jeremy from Venus or vice versa. Livy is not one to believe in love at least the way the world has told her to believe. Jeremy is ready to prove to her that he can make all her love dreams come true.
That is, though, until everything turns their world upside down. They let the world as they know it crumble their structure and they go with the motions of the ocean. As time goes on, they realize only they can change their fate. Will memories be enough to rekindle their fire or is it too little too late?
Right now, with all that’s going on in the world, I could use this book at the right time to keep my mind during this quarantine. If you’re a relationship or marriage chick like me who believes in hopeless romantic stuff like this, it’s the book for you. I love books about romance and anything about reuniting in love. This is just that type of book for rediscovering your love for someone and doing what it takes to stay in love or find your way back to one another. This story is beautiful as you believe all that it is for the couple and their love story. Great book!

Bargaining (Hero High Book 3) by Mina Chara – Review by Faith Jackson

Bargaining (Hero High, #3)Bargaining by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 3 of the series and I’ve enjoyed reading each book. In this one, we find that the main character’s life is in shambles. As her friendship is crumbling, she discovers Mr Dangerous is perpetrating. She feels helpless as people are being compromised. Hidden figures are controlling the hidden truth she seeks to unveil. As she’s thrown into more of the spotlight, she’s losing herself through it all. Mr Fantastic believes in her probably because he knows who she is no matter what. Her main purpose hasn’t been lost in hindsight.
Though this book wasn’t what I expected, especially after the previous ones. I personally feel like the main character lost her way somewhat in this series but Mr Fantastic quickly got her back as she was going off course which saved this last book for me. I’d fallen in love with the other two and didn’t wanna see her wind up like all the other characters but I don’t wanna give away too much of the premise. Overall, great book and beautiful series done by Mina Chara.

Sweet Salvation (The Protectors, #3)Sweet Salvation by Toya Richardson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is by far one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. It’s a shifter romance series with an edge and plenty of action. I wasn’t the least disappointed when I read this. I loved it from start to finish because it didn’t disappoint. This book is filled with unpredictable action and romance like no other book I’ve read before. I don’t wanna ruin the premise so here goes nothing:
Manuala just wants to live an ordinary life as a human but when she leaves a life of protection her dream life is turned into a nightmare. Her companion comes to her rescue just as she’s being devoured by the life that has befallen her. Manuala’s body has been through the ringer and she doesn’t expect her companion to want her after the wear and tear.
Inside the Elias Crane Protectors community, Josh lives. After he’s been through his deal of emotional pain, he hopes for peace until he is reunited with his companion in Spain at a Protectors community: Shattered and abused.
Through a psychic bond, they share their past memories with one another. When Manuala seeks vengeance, she sends tremors through the Supernat communities. We ride with Josh on his ride to stop her before this voyage kills her. Pick up this series and the others like it. You won’t be disappointed!

I knew it would be hot when the hatred for her husband was as great as her temptation for the young fellow. Sexy and steamy read from start to finish!

Holding Out for You by Anna Paige – Review by Faith Jackson

Holding Out for YouHolding Out for You by Anna Paige
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book follows Ash Hunter and Blair Martell, enemies with a common denominator between the two: Blair’s brother, her everything and his best friend. Her brother was her favorite person on Earth, her best friend, protector and everyone else loved him just as much as she did. Ash Hunter was her brother’s best friend and he was always there knocking Blair down a notch. He wanted to knock her down at every turn that is until he decides to give her what she never knew she wanted.
This book seems like a movie as it takes us on a magic ride with these lovable characters. I’m here for all of it! I’m a hopeless romantic who loves to follow where these books can lead me. I love to follow the direction of which the characters bring us into their lives. I was hooked from page to page as we see these relationships develop into something so sweet.

Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham – Review by Faith Jackson

Why (Stalker Series, #2)Why by Megan Mitcham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ll start this review by saying I’m a huge true crime fan of anything and everything in real life outside of books, TV shows, movies. Anything goes when it comes to this particular genre. My curiosity always gets the best of me and not just for the victims but for the people who commit such atrocities against humanity. But anyway, here goes nothing with this review:
In this novel, we follow a successful attorney with an A-one record and a client guilty of the crime before him but how far would she go to maintain her supreme record to free her client?
In this book, we follow prosecutor Genevive Holt who finds excitement in getting bad guys off the streets. She’s not been beaten in court thanks to her mentor/boss, Perry. But Perry’s been charged with the heinous crime against his own family (killing his wife and kids), she’s called to defend his innocence. She soon comes to question his innocence after letting him go free when she discovers him throwing a few too many festivities at the scene of the crime and sneaking around with a gorgeous woman.
Soon after she’s up to find out what he’s up to while trolling him but she finds the same detective who suggested she not take the case to begin with threatens to arrest her for stalking if she doesn’t stop. Holt must decide if she should save her career by letting a killer go free or bring justice to the victims by placing him where he belongs: Behind bars. . .
This is the second standalone novel of a series that had me on the edge. I’m hooked! I’d like to say I love this author and how she builds up suspense in her books. That alone will have you on the edge of your seat eager to read page for page. I couldn’t put this one down till I was finished.

Romance in Rehoboth Boxed Set (Books 4-6): A Small Town Romantic Comedy Series by K.L. Montgomery – Review by Faith Jackson

This is a first boxed set of 3 extra books from author K.L. Montgomery. In this first novel, “Badge Bunny,” we meet an ER doc, Brynne Miller AKA Badge Bunny, who has a thing for cops. That is until she meets and swears off cop Chris Everson. Chris is living up his dream life as he’s got everything anybody could ever ask for: Friends, his dream job, and a home on the beach. Except he’s got a secret as well that none of his friends or the other ladies (past or present) know about. Since her first impression of Chris, she’s vowed to never date him. And aren’t first impressions everything? We’ll find out in this page-turner which is guaranteed to keep you entertained for hours.
In the second novel, “Wedding War,” temptation and old feelings die hard as rival families merge together to save their family’s businesses. Jason Friday’s family has been catering to the grooms of Delmarva for forty years while Hannah Robinson’s family has been doing the same for thirty years. Over the past twenty years both families have become enemies as their businesses grew. That all changed once they were met with a common enemy in a new superchain of shops, Uber Brides. This is a great collection of books that will keep you entertained. Loved this series. Beautiful characters and beautiful writing as usual from Ms. K.L. Montgomery.

Anger (Hero High Book 2) by Mina Chara – Review by Faith Jackson

Anger (Hero High, #2)Anger by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

She knows she has to be careful because they’re looking.
She was a fixation on the show and a daily part of the Hero Channel’s show, “Hero High.” She met two important heroes in the Figure in the Flames and the copycat Mr Dangerous. Life in the superstructure is hazardous and meddling, especially when trying to expose the truth behind where the bad guys come from. She’s trying to avoid the cameras but she knows they know something.
She is distrustful of the Hero’s Channel. There’s no telling who the bad guys are or vice versa. Her personal hero, Captain Fantastic wants to take her under his wing but there’s one problem: His personal mentee; Ashley.
She doesn’t know who to trust or where to go for the truth.
The mysteries of these books are compelling and the fact that the author puts you in the front seat as “She/Her” is even better for the reader. We get to use our imagination in this futuristic novel. I’ve loved both books so far. I’m keeping this on my waitlist for the rest of this collection.

Romance in Rehoboth Boxed Set (Books 1-3): A Small Town Romantic Comedy Series by K.L. Montgomery – Review by Faith Jackson

Romance in Rehoboth Boxed Set (Books 1-3)Romance in Rehoboth Boxed Set by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From “Music Man,” I was addicted but I will read anything by K.L. Montgomery. She’s quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors although I’ve read plenty of her books. This series is simply the best of the romance genre I’ve ever read so far.
With each novel in this collection, you learn why I fell in love with K.L. Montgomery’s writing. Everything she writes is gold for the heart as it touches your soul with lessons on just about everything from learning to love yourself to following your dreams or searching for the love of your life. The women in these books are heroines who find men who fall in love with more than just their beautiful bodies but every part of their mind, body, spirit and soul.
Each novel is set in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware where it’s a paradise in the U.S.
The first novel is about acceptance and self-love. She’s fresh off of a divorce, her future looks bright with a brand-new job as well and she’s turning fabulous 40! Claire Sterling is looking to revamp her life with her gay best friend, the help of a therapist and fitness program. This “Fat Girl” is taking her life back and the man of her dreams with her! This one was a funny read: Very entertaining.
In the second novel, I love the author’s sense of humor. This keeps me cracking up! These rival nerds have been at one another’s throats all their academic school ages. Ten years later, they came together after becoming heirs to a home in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Both are willing to put their petty ways to the side for the sake of the cottage as both their futures depend on it. Aunt Penny is playing matchmaker from the grave in this romantic novel. So steamy!
In the third novel, we find Claire who has just written a musical as she tries to make a simple accountant her leading man. Fresh off of a divorce, he’s not interested in anything but his job especially since that’s how he met his ex-wife. Linda Larson is behind the scenes making what happens onstage a reality but her girlfriends want her to get on stage to let her talents show. Follow us through this novel as you’re in over your head with how steamy these books go.
I loved every novel from start to finish, especially the characters. K.L. has a way to make them all come alive through each word. Great series!

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare (Jake the Growling Dog Book 2) by Samantha Shannon – Review by Faith Jackson

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy DaycareJake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare by Samantha Shannon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Let me just start this review off by saying I enjoy reading to my boys. I have 2 sons: A 5-year old and a 4-mo.-old (close to 5) months and they love learning and enjoying time together just as much as I enjoy reading for them and to them. This book did not disappoint and I wanted to read it because lately my son has been having a problem with being obedient as he’s growing into his own. Anyway, here goes what I got from the book:
Jake, the dog, is off to a new environment (daycare) but he doesn’t know what to expect. He’s on alert because he’s in a new place and he has to try new things. He’s trying to prepare but he needs help. Maybe something familiar can help ease his mind in this setting.
He’s pretty comfortable where he’s been: At home with his comfy bed, his great friends, and his daily walk on his favorite trail. He’s worried about how the other pups will see him and get to know him. Scared, Jake runs away, as he doesn’t want to leave his home for someplace new and scary. Little does he know his best friend, Neet and his family are there to comfort him. Jake is gonna try to embrace the new place and try out new things. Turns out he’s not the only one feeling uneasy in this new situation of his. Everybody needs friendship and empathy and that’s just how Jake’s family comforts him.

The intrigue and mystery of this one will catch you by your bootstraps and keep you hooked from the beginning. Miri’s grandma has passed but she died with a secret. After such a heartbreaking blow, she’s left alone and isolated in a boarding school in a new state. Miri discovers she’s special in a very magical way when bullied at school that her grandma’s secret didn’t die with her after all. Miri is caught between the balance of her powers: Does she save herself and can she save her family as well?
The more she learns about these strange, magical powers by a few select others, the family’s history comes alive. This opens up the world to a completely different type of danger.
In the first of this series, we meet and go into the adventures of the Partnership for Animagi, Werewolves and Shapeshifters, better known as P.A.W.S. of St. Louis. Twisted, this book is, but in the best way: Almost like a guilty pleasure. Page-turner cause you’ll be craving for a new chapter after chapter. Wonderful characters who you can’t help but love from the way they’re special powers are connected to their stories is exciting to bring you more into the book. The world-building is incredible in this one! Easy read because you’ll be craving for more of the adventures these guys take us on.
