This book is a very strong start for this author! It is written so well, as if she has been writing for years. I love fantasy books and have read many. The author was able to create a fantasy world that draws you in. Sloane is a great character and as you are taken through her journey, you are kept on the edge of your seat. I hope this author continues to write because although I can’t imagine her getting better, I cannot wait to see what else she has to bring to our imaginations.

Absolutely stunning and imaginative! This book felt like a work of art! Children Of The Wild by Krysta Tawlks gave me goosebumps the whole way through. Ethereal and vivid with a whole lot of heart! This bold work of historical fiction will bring you into its world and not let you go until the end! Elbert Dowden is a wonderful protagonist who drives the intense and sometimes painful emotions of the story and is truly unlike anything I’ve read before. I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Tawlks since this amazing read is her debut novel!

The Befallen (The Unsung and The Wolf Duology) by Cambria Williams. This is a great fantasy read. Its the story of Sloane who has a crippled leg and her hometown has been put under a curse. Everyone is fighting each other and everyone has turned into thieves. She is left with no choice but to leave her home and set off in the world. The young knight, Tolvar, meets Sloane and decides to help her try to find a cure for the curse on her town. Sloane wants nothing more than to do something so that she is known for and not just a cripple. Tolvar wants to become a better man too and with Sloane’s help maybe he can do that. This story has adventure, magic, fantasy and mystery. Such a fun adventure!

The Befallen has killed everyone in her village. She is determined to be the one that defeats him. She teams up with a grump knight, Tolvar. He is reluctant at first to let her join. Together they discover things about the Befallen. Can they defeat him together?

Historical fantasy books aren’t typically my go to but I gave this one a shot anyways, because I simply loved the cover. The magic and the creatures is something rather newish to me but the more I read books like this the more I’m enjoying them. It’s a nice way to take a step back from reality and that’s definitely what I needed right now. Super good book with amazing characters.

I loved it and the synopsis made me want to read it more. Even though I’m not a huge fan of historical fiction I found this truly good, especially since it had magic thrown in.🥰 It’s a really good read for a teenager and older 😬🤣me being the older. I think I’m gonna use this book in my book club with my nieces lol I think they’ll enjoy it also! I look forward to reading more work from this author 😀

This was a good story. I picked it because it was advertised as something similar to Tuck Everlasting which to this day is one of my favorite stories of all time. This book had similar themes it just was a little slow moving for me. I liked the journal entries because I always feel like these give a little more personal insight and voice. This would be a book I would recommend to students who are interested in this genre.

This book features a society that is beleaguered by an evil plague. One that is not spread by germs, yet kills groups of the living nonetheless. Legend says a hero will save them all. But what makes a hero? Who gets to decide what type of people have it in them to actually be a hero? Ultimately, this is a book about faith. The faith to believe, and the faith to become.

This is a fantastic debut novel by an author who clearly has author a penchant for writing. The story is imaginative and captivating and really takes you, ad the reader, on an exciting journey.
I really enjoyed reading about Sloane. Her character fit absolutely perfectly with the story and, for me, that just added to the whole experience. Her strength was obvious, even in the face of such challenges. This is a brilliant and engaging story and I cannot wait to see what else this author will produce.

Hope For A New World (Gaia’s Voice Series) by Renee W Peek – Review by Mary Espinoza

Hope For a New World (The Hope Series Book 1)Hope For a New World by Renee W. Peek
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hope For a New World is the first book in The Hope Series (Gaia Series) by Renee W. Peek. This is the first book that I have read by Renee Peek, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from one of her stories, but the cover pulled me in, and I figured that I would see what it was about.
What I discovered is an original story with quite a bit going on, there are multiple characters, and multiple point of views going on also, which makes the story seem interesting. This is a Sci-fi fantasy, with a bit of a ‘message’ about the environment, and the part we play in it all. So, the setting of the story is over a hundred years into the future, and it depicts the changes that we have brought about to the environment.
I appreciated the story and messages it contained, but I did find it difficult to fully connect with some of the characters, because I felt like there was quite a bit going on with each of the characters. I hope that Renee continues to make books in the series which explain each point of view.
The only way to find out if your thoughts of this book, is to pick up a copy for yourself and read the book…I don’t think you will be disappointed!

This was the first book I have read by this author but I found it a very enchanting read. This is a YA fantasy adventure. It is fast paced and really interesting. It is a story of family, magical beings, adventure and a young boy discovering who he is and what his destiny is.
The main character Elbert is a sweet young boy who always thought he was a normal kid. That is until he starts sprouting feathers and feels a burning sensation that takes over his body.
What is happening to him? As he starts to learn more about his magical abilities he needs to learn how to control his magic all the while his mind is being opened up to other magical creatures and beings and are only heard of in stories.

There are some emotional points in the story as we are with him as he tries to work through feelings of grief while still protecting his remaining siblings.
This is a moving magical tale of a young man choosing his path while working through emotions and pain that could cloud his judgement.
Which path will he choose? And will his choices put the rest of his siblings in danger from creatures he has only just found out existed.

This was a magical read. I was presently surprised by this author’s work and I can’t wait to read more.

Young Elbert has been having unusual occurrences happening to him. Elbert finds out that that the strange things happening to him are escalating and that he will need to make a choice, because he has a gift of magic and he can follow that path or reject it altogether. Which path will Elbert take?

I thought this was written in such a way that you could easily visualize what was happening. I enjoyed the story and was eager to figure out what was happening with Elbert. I think young adults will be thrilled with Children of the Wild.

Again another astounding read, the continuation of the YA series about Makayla and her time at theGrave Digger Academy.
ANother year another set of changes, with a\ new head teacher, troublesome crones and more students: although not all of them are those we have met in previous years. There are places where people go to go away or be forgotten about and this involves Makayla.
The author continues to weave a web around these characters that makes you feel like you are part of the group. The development of these characters is continuous and interesting as they mature and grow. The world building is very involved.
A great continuation to series.
This book is the debut novel for this author. This is a fantasy novel. It started off kind of slow for me but to be fair, I don’t typically read fantasy so I’m just not used to this style of writing. These characters were so well written. You feel Sloane’s persistence and strength. Sloane doesn’t quit and it really inspires especially given everything she’s had to overcome. The book was so well written you’d never know it was a debut novel. It made it worth reading!

While fantasy is not normally my jam, I’m glad I gave this book a chance. If you enjoy fantasy, this one is definitely for you!

I am not usually one to read and enjoy fantasy novels, but wow, this one was fantastic. Cambria Williams developed an incredible cast of characters, especially Sloane and Tolvar. The story was a little slow to start, but it didn’t take long before I was completely enveloped in the story. The search for the Unsung and the trials faced by Sloane and Tolvar make this story a great one. This novel has knights, ancient lore, legends, goddesses of the various moons, and so much more. I felt like I rode an emotional roller coaster through the reading of this book, and would ride it over and over again without a question. Excellent book.

Often times with series past 3 books, I often loose interest, that is NOT the case with Grave Digger Academy. C.A.King know what they are doing when writing a series!
Although if you just picked this up without reading the previous 3, you could read it as a standalone, I would suggest you read all 3 previous books in order, you will not be disappointed.
I think the reason I am not getting bored is C.A.King has perfected the art of giving us a taste and filling us, but not over filling us, leaving room for more. I am looking forward to book 5, no desire to take a break from the series!

The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince Series) by Ayla Marie – Review by Darla Yocom

The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince, #2)The Uncrowned King by Ayla Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Anytime a mercenary reveals he is a prince, the story is going to get interesting. I’m a new reader to this author but I was hooked immediately with this book. The cover art is great and the synopsis is intriguing. So I dove into the story of Leo who we learn never knew his parents. He travels to the lands of his royal bloodline to find a safe place for him and his siblings to live without the constant fear of being killed or exploited due to his true identity.

Leo is an interesting character and admittedly it took me a bit to warm up to him. By the end of the book, I think he may be one of the best characters yet.

When he’s initially faced with the idea of taking his rightful place on the throne, he immediately rejects the idea. Then he and his family try to learn everything they can about royal family, their ways. Most importantly, they need to learn who they can trust, who they should watch and how they can keep themselves safe.

I enjoyed the pace of the storyline and the complexity of the characters. I think YS fantasy fiction fans will be entertained.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the fourth installment of the Grave Digger series and while you can read it as a standalone, I’d definitely recommend reading the books in order, as a lot happens that you don’t want to miss out on. C.A. King has written this amazing, enjoyable YA paranormal series that encompasses not only magic, secrets, and dangerous adventures, but fun to get to know somewhat quirky characters.

Can Makayla trust anyone, especially since Grave Digger Academy has a new sheriff in town, aka Headmistress Ulva Everbleed? Getting a new headmistress from whom they expected is not only strange but leads to several mysteries that no one will seem to give Makayla answers for, so it’s up to her to find out what’s going on at the academy. Being stuck at Grave Digger Academy was never where Makayla wanted to be, but over her last several years there she has become excited about the academy and her ragtag group of friends. It isn’t until she gets her letter and returns that she finds some of her friends missing while others ignore her. What’s going on? Why did her friends not get letters back to the academy, and why are there so many more people there than usual? What are the crones letting happen, and why do they seem worried about Makayla?

This is such a fast, fantastic read where we are drawn even more into Makayla’s world! If you like magic, adventure, and mysteries, then you definitely need to check out this series!

This is the fourth book in the Grave Digger Academy Series, and it seems that with each installment, I am pulled in even more! Makayla is back in the Academy for the fourth year, and a whole lot has changed. It’s quite an unpredictable ride as the author threw in twists and turns to keep us on our toes. Makayla doesn’t know who she can trust, and she’s finding that trying to get through on her own may not be enough. Each of these books build off of each other, so I recommend reading the entire series in order to get the full experience (and not be lost!) This author has become one of my favorites, so much so that I am on my way to pick up more of their work now. I can’t wait for the fifth installment to come out!

This is the third book in the Grave Digger Academy Series, and it is definitely my favorite so far! The author has somehow found a way to fit in much detail and action in quite a short read. Typically, if books are shorter, it feels like we’re missing something and that the story could have been fleshed out a little more. While this is a quicker read, the author did a marvelous job ensuring the story is fully complete with no stones left unturned. Makayla is in her third year at the Academy, and it seems to get more interesting each year. Will her brothers keep her safe, or will the danger at school be too great for all of them? I highly recommend reading these books in order as they do build off each other quite a bit. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us next!

Another quick and exciting installment in this series. Makayla finds herself thrown back into a world that is becoming stricter each and everyday. She can’t be helped by her helpers, she doesn’t know who she can trust; she must find the path that leads her to the answers. We are introduced to many new characters in this book and the reader quickly learns who can be trusted and who cannot, unfortunately, Makayla is not privy to that information. This is a book you will read in one sitting and find yourself ready for more. My one complaint about all the books in this series is I wish they were longer, although the bonus chapter was a nice touch and helped to tide over until the next installment.

This is the second book in the Grave Digger Academy Series and I loved this one even more than the last! Makayla is now in her second year at the Grave Digger Academy, but somehow the beginning of the school year throws a lot of curveballs at her. With plenty of mischief, friends, drama, and surprises, there’s no way this year will be boring. I flew through this book so quickly because I was not going to be interrupted! There is definitely something weird about the school this year, but will they be able to figure it out and stay safe? I have read other books by this author before, so I knew I was going to enjoy this one. I didn’t have any idea how much I would love it though! I really enjoy the supernatural fantasy genre, so this was right up my alley. Makayla ends up at Grave Digger Academy after being denied at all of the other schools she applied to. The curriculum they learn at Grave Digger Academy is quite interesting and not the same as the definition of gravedigger we know. The flow of the story was great, as were the characters. C. A. King delivers a great, quick read in Grave Digger Academy IV. Makayla returns to an even more changed Academy than before; one run by someone other than Mary Meet. There are lots of new faces as well as old ones, but none Makayla can truly trust. Yet, she pushes on to find answers. Information comes to light about Makayla’s family as well as the history behind the banishing of necromancy. This information links well with information from previous books and it is fascinating to see how those connections tie everything together. The detail in this book is amazing, even with being such a fast read. I felt like I was right there with Makayla on her journey. I feel like I’ve become connected to the characters in this series, especially Makayla, and I’m anxiously awaiting the continuation of this story in the next book!

Just like all the previous books in the series, this book picks up right after the previous. This is not to be read as a stand alone. The whole series is amazing so far though so read them all!

Makayla is running out of people to trust. Some of her friends are missing and the ones who are around seem to hate her. She has been told multiple times to watch who she trusts so she decided to trust no one. It’s easier this way. The crones are trying their hardest to control Makayla. Everything she worked hard at last year is banned, from a long list of library books to even helpers. Even new professors and a head mistress. Makayla wants answers and she will stop at nothing to finally get them. It seems every time she thinks she’s taking a step towards her goal, more questions are formed than answers.

This book was a lot more fast paced than the previous books and had an unexpected twist of who Makayla could and could not trust. This book seemed to be building up to something big for the next installment of the series and I cannot wait to see where Makayla goes next. I honestly love this author, their writing is unique and keeps you hooked from the start to finish with anything I have read from them. I highly recommend this author to anyone who likes to read things that are outside the box.

A new year begins with Helpers banned from campus and a whole new look to Grave Digger Academy. A new headmistress, new curriculum and a whole lot of new staff and students means you can’t trust anyone…

Makayla now has only herself to fully rely on for any answers about what’s happening in the magical world and trying to find help is proving to be hard. Can she survive year 4 without too much trouble?

This book starts out a little before term starts with a lot of rules that Makayla is having a bit of trouble following, but that’s nothing compared to what’s waiting for her when she makes it back to the academy…

This one, like the previous three just loves so fast! I want to keep going and then suddenly I’m at the end. It’s both refreshing to be pulled in so much that quickly and sad because I keep running out of pages!

It feels like I keep getting more questions to ask and far from enough answers. How will book 5 be enough to give me an ending?! Happy reading!
