This is a great prequel story and it was really good to be able to add it to the series. I loved the new perspective it gave and the extra detail it provided. The book was well written and really easy to engage with. I was pleased that I read this first as it gave me a bit more of an expectation for the next book and it caught my attention enough to want to read that straight way. The author has created a book that, for me, is a brilliant example of a prequel done well.

EmVee moves to the middle of nowhere town of NewPort. Her parents won’t tell her the reason for the sudden move. She meets various other students including football players Silas and Kayson, Megan who talks a lot and Rachel, a girl who works at her parent’s gym.
Secrets start to be revealed, when athletes are murdered and cheerleaders goes missing. In the midst, is a mystery of who is trying to attack EmVee’s family. She takes it upon herself to find out.
I was pleasantly surprised. Within the first couple of chapters, I was hooked. I know why it is part of the Vigilante series after reading this. The groundwork for this seems solid and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

This was the first book I ever read by LM Preston, and it honestly sucked me in within the first couple of chapters. She does such an amazing job building the background of the story and getting the reader invested in the characters. EmVee and her family have recently moved from New York to a “middle of nowhere country town” of NewPort. Her parents are very secretive on why they suddenly moved. While EmVee is confused and slightly curious about the sudden move and the hush her parents have around it she becomes focused on school and “who” she wants to be.
In a new town EmVee finds herself wanting to reinvent herself in her new little town at her new school. She wants to be a “girly-girl” to the extent that she’s not in fights and being seen as another one of the guys. On the first day of school a whirlwind of things happens for EmVee. She meets two of the local football players, Kayson and Silas, both of whom seem to like her already. Though she is instantly drawn to Silas. In history class she meets Megan, a chatter mouth that loves to spread all the news she can. Meets Rachel, a fellow student that works at her parents’ gym, who becomes her first female best friend. Goes to the local club that Megan invited her too, dragging Rachel along so she’s not alone with the hard to be around Megan. While inside EmVee meets another football player, Grady, only to later discover his murder scene in the woods outside the club. After the current events and stories Megan has told her EmVee becomes more and more concerned about why her family suddenly moved when she finds contracts that tie her parents’ gym, the local club, Club Fixation, and a secret underground lab all seem to be related. Ten murdered athletes, ten missing cheerleaders, the secrets come out and shock you. After being attacked EmVee and her family are given a chance to escape NewPort. Until her family’s vehicle goes off the side of a bridge. She is saved and told her family is being helped but she has one goal. To find who is responsible and kill them.
The story, the ending, the details. Everything. If you love a mystery with twists and turns that you can’t put down, this introduction to the Vigilant series is highly recommended. I can’t wait to read Book One, Caged Fire, and see what happens next.

This was a well written first book and a new author to me. The synopsis is what initially got my attention and I was intrigued enough to want to read this story. It started off with action and I wondered what kind of demon hunter I was reading about. Of course being a fan of the long running TV show Supernatrual I had a few ideas in mind about how she would vanquish these beings, but it was nothing like that. The simple yet effective method the author put forth made me do a double take, haha. Normally Rovens’s duty is to kill a demon, but when she is sent to find out why a Marked was killed and who did it she accidentally brings the body back to life with a new soul. She doesn’t know exactly how it happened as she doesn’t quite know the full extent of her powers or why they only work sometimes. Instead of hunting demons and offing them she is now tasked with keeping one alive. Will she be able to gain the trust of her sworn enemy? Or will the enemy turn out to be her downfall?

This book has an interesting premise of hunters and demons. Some hunters have special abilities and Rovena is one of those hunters. She has the ability to touch someone and see their memories. This comes in handy and is used by the members of the monastery to gain information on the death of humans or demons. Rovena is on a case to determine why an innocent human was targeted by demons. Lakyn has his own issues. He ends up on the surface in possession of the body Rovena is cased with. Here upon starts the tale Rovena and Lakyn. Enemies with no trust in each other.

This book is not something I would typically read, but I am so glad I did. The wording is impeccable and the way the story unfolds is intriguing. It really draws you in and you just want to find out what happens next. Rovena is a strong, mighty, and solid hunter. She is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

I found this to have a really similar vibe to shows like Lucifer and Warrior Nun on Netflix. There aren’t a lot of written stories to include this genre, to the level of detail that Kristy gives us, which is just #LOVE. “Tale of a Body Thief” includes demon hunters, demons (obviously), monks, nuns, a monastery, a heap of investigation intrigue, and so much more you will just have to read to find out.
Rovena is the badass, gothic demon slayer we all wish we could be. She’s already a pretty competent individual in her trade, equipped with some unique abilities to assist her mission. Not only is she capable, witty, and a total force to be reckoned with, the author brings her to life as a real down to earth person.
Along side her trying to save humanity, are her fellow hunters. But can she trust them totally? In the midst of some pretty epic (and graphic) battle scenes, Rovena is forced to use quick and critical thinking. There is so much diversity across the board for all characters. We want good vs. evil to be drawn with a clear black and white line, but that’s not how life works for us, or for Rovena.
We as the readers are guaranteed a journey with this heroine to some pretty unexpected outcomes, a lesson in self discovery, and you might just find yourself questioning your own reality. I just love that Kristy leaves room in the world development to lure you into the next book. You really have to think for yourself, and ask yourself “is anyone safe?”. Easy to read and understand the picture that Kristy paints for the reader.

I enjoyed this paranormal story. I enjoyed how the author was able to use her writing skills to bring the story to life. The author’s attention to details made the story realistic which added to the story. This is a well written story about Rovena. She is used to hunting and killing demons but now she needs to keep one alive which totally changes the game for her. She is such a strong, supportive character that she made the story easy to read. I enjoyed how the author pulled me into the story from the beginning. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down. An engaging story that you don’t want to miss. I really enjoyed reading this story and I highly recommend it.

What a start to a new series! This book grabs your attention right from the word go and really doesn’t let up at all. I loved everything about this book – the characters, the story, the writing style. The author has created a book that really stays with you even after you have finished reading. The book is entertaining as well, in a way I don’t often find books like this to be. Honestly, it ticked all the boxes for me and if this is just the start I can’t wait to see what is to come next.

This book was a great start to this series! While I have never read anything by this author, I was interested in picking up this book based on its description– “a darker, grittier Alice in Wonderland” and I was not disappointed. This fantasy story includes everything you might be looking for — a mirror world, magic, family, loss, danger, adventure, and more! The main character, Evaline, has hopes of becoming a detective but due to a recent tragedy, her father has hopes of her marrying their (older) neighbor. When a stranger asks the family for help, Evaline finds her chance to follow her dreams. Her adventure begins as she is sucked into a different dimension to battle a doctor of death with a goal to stop him from reaching London. The beginning was a bit slow but once the action began, I could not put this down. I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

Tale of a Body Thief is the fantastic first instalment in the Rovena Silvex Chronicles by Kristy Centeno. I have loved everything I have read by this author, so I was definitely excited to get my hands this, her latest offering. I had really high expectations going into this story, as her previous books have been amazing- and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was possible for her to hit another home run with this new story/series. I needn’t have worried though, and never should have doubted her- as this book is every bit as good as her previous works- if not better. This is a wonderfully original and exciting fantasy with intriguing paranormal elements, plenty of action, danger, the occult, hunters, demons, witches, thrills, excitement, edge of your seat suspense, mystery, dramatic developments, violence, the supernatural, good vs evil, agendas, and adventure. There is so much packed in-between the covers of this book- making for such an exciting read. I was completely hooked right from the word go- and didn’t come up for air till I had read every last word. Ms. Centeno has written such an engrossing, detailed, and wonderfully dynamic story- that I was completely caught up in all the developments. She had me avidly reading the whole way through, sometimes on the edge of my seat waiting to see how things would play out. The story is very original, imaginative, and well-woven. And was everything I could have hoped for (and more) from this talented author. The characters were superbly crafted into fully developed individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks and flaws. They really brought the whole story to life and added so much more depth and ‘flavour’ to the whole adventure. I love Rovena- she is such a feisty, strong, kick-a( ) character. But this demon hunter also has a few surprises up her sleeve, too. The story is set to continue in future instalments- so I can’t wait for the next book to see where we go from here! If you love fantasy, the paranormal/supernatural, demons, witches, good vs evil, sinister agendas, intriguing characters, and spell-binding storylines- then you will definitely want to snap up a copy of this book, asap. This was another great installment that just knocks this series out of the park! This was adventurous, and the fun just never stops. I loved the dragon! It added so much more danger and excitement. This series has quickly become a favorite of mine. It gets a little tedious at times but the adventures never stop. There is so much action and adventure. I have loved reading this series and I can’t wait to read the 4th book soon!

This was a fantastic sequel! I liked this one a lot more than the first. Not only did it have more action, but it was emotional (at least to me) as well! The first book I already loved because it was so well written, and while this one doesn’t disappoint in that regard either, this one just had a lot more depth. I highly recommend this series! These books should be read in order, however, this second book had a very in depth summary of the first book so reading the first isn’t strictly required since the author gives you all the background you need for this one.

Each book in this series gets better and better!! The family is all over the place, completely spread out. Kara and her family are staying in her mother’s hometown with family but they aren’t as welcoming as one would suspect. Kara also finds out that she will be married soon. Doesn’t she get a say in this? Sorven is going to Jorvik to see what, if anything, can be recovered from recent adventures. Oh the things that he runs into along the way. Cub is working like a dog in the camp that he’s been committed to. Will he ever find his way out and back to a life of freedom? Finn and Karl are still on the seas battling all sorts of strange creatures. It takes Karl awhile to warm up to Finn’s new way of life but once he does, things start improving somewhat. My favorite part of this book was Finn’s pet! Again, very well written and chocked full of adventure! I’m looking forward to book 4 and more of Kara’s story!

This book picks up about two weeks after the first one ends. As with the other book, there are multiple stories being told at once. Sometimes, it’s hard for me to keep it all straight but these books are SOOO GOOD!!! So, Willa is now married but not without some drama on her wedding night. Men come to exact their revenge on Karl but they are not successful. However, it will find the Kara and her family being on the run to save their lives while Karl takes Finn out on the ship with him. Cub goes with this dad to fight against Alfred the Great. Let’s just say that things don’t go as planned for any of these characters! Between the bears, trolls, mermen, wolves, elves….it’s all up in the air as to how things will develop. I suspect things may not be as they immediately seem though either. I have a feeling the author has something up his sleeve for book three!! While the first book was difficult for me to get into, I’m so thankful I didn’t give up! I’m really enjoying this series to far and look forward to learning more about Finn and his family!

I hate to admit but it took me quite awhile to get into this one. Around 100 pages or so as a matter of fact. I kept getting lost in the multitude of characters. However, had I noticed the family tree at the back of the book before I started reading, it would have helped me to keep things a little straighter.
I enjoyed learning about Thorfinn (Finn for short) and his family. They are in the midst of planning a wedding for Finn’s sister when a dark being comes to their family homestead and attacks one of Finn’s brothers. Finn starts to research and try to find this being and in the end, runs into a witch. We all know they generally aren’t good for anything. When he gets tangles up with her, he finds himself in a whole new world of mystical beings.
Once I got the hang of the story, I found this to be a very enjoyable book! There is a lot of Norse and Viking history covered, of which I’m not super familiar with but I am learning! I’ll be covering this series through book 3 here shortly!

S.F Benson did a fantastic job putting fantasy, mystery, and magic into one book. Evaline has no clue at first what her Mother left behind, she wanted to find out more. Between the two worlds one in the mirror and the other where Evaline is, there was something trying to come into her world as well. Evaline tries to find out what it is but without her Mother helping to understand her powers it becomes harder for her.
This book is so much page turning it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. If you love mystery, spinning, page-turner, and fantasy this is the book for you.

I’ve read several books that include demon hunters and this book didn’t disappoint. I would categorize myself as a sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal genre lover at times although I enjoy reading pretty much anything fiction. I especially like reading books with strong female characters like Rovena. I easily got interested in Rovena and what makes her special. As I continued to read I became more and more invested in Rovena, the world she lives and works in. The author did a wonderful job with character descriptions, the world they strive to survive in, and building up the story to make the reader want to continue reading more. I think many reader will enjoy reading this book.

This book follows EmVee and her family after they move to a new town. It is a great story about a girl doing what she can for her family. EmVee is a fighter with the hopes of taking that dream farther. You get to follow her on her journey to discover more about the mysterious new town her family has ended up in.
The book has a great storyline that is pretty easy to follow. It’s a great starter book for someone who has not read too much in the fantasy genre. I have not read much fantasy in the last few years so this was a great option. The fantasy aspect is not just thrown into your face which was a nice change from some other books in the genre.
It was very well written and I enjoyed that it was a quick read. I enjoyed that once I got sucked into the novel, I could finish the whole thing versus having to put the book down to sleep or go to work.

This book first transported me back in time to London in the late 1800’s, and then it transported me into a mirror world! I am a big fan of fantasy and mystery, which made delving into this book and discovering new worlds so much fun. I highly enjoyed Evaline’s strong-willed personality, her independence, and her tenacity! I cannot imagine being a woman in her time with all of the societal pressures and what a “woman’s rightfully place” is. She handled it with spunk and never stopped being true to herself. This book brought in so many elements of classic stories (Jack the Ripper, Sherlock Holmes, etc) and spun them into one with magic and mystery and mayhem. Definitely a worthwhile fantasy read and I am excited to see where the story goes from here!

Evaline Wainwright is the daughter of a well to do gentleman, who is also a practitioner of magic and Evaline has inherited this talent as well, although in London in 1888, this is frowned upon and can lead to a whole host of problems if it is discovered that you practice magic without a license and as a woman, Evaline is not likely to be able to procure one any time soon. As well as practitioners of magic, her parents are occult archeologists and have spent most of their lives researching into and finding artefacts of great power, that is until Evaline’s mother passed away and her father retired from the field because of it, but Evaline wishes to follow a similar path and become a great detective, but this is frowned upon as well.
As Evaline starts her day in the usual manner, she is about to start helping her father with some work when a strange woman clothed all in black with a severe countenance requests a meeting with him. Her father ushers Evaline out of the room so that the discussion can be held with privacy, however, Evaline cannot help herself and listens in. This is where she overhears the woman asking her father for help to retrieve an artefact which can not only save her world, but the one the mystery woman inhabits as well. This news of alternate worlds is news to Evaline, however, she just cannot resist a mystery and a chance to prove her skills, so when she overhears where the woman will be staying, she makes up her mind to go and speak to her herself, even though it is against the wishes of all those around her.
While all this is happening, Evaline is also trying to avoid an arranged marriage and spend time with her beau without the watchful eyes of her father and the staff whom he employs, however, when the two of them end up being transported to the mysterious world of Londinium by the mystery woman, the decision as to whether to investigate is taken out of their hands. As they learn more about their surroundings, Evaline and her beau realise that the sun never shines there, the weather and the purple are perpetually miserable and Doctor Death is the one pulling all the strings, but how does this all connect to the strange woman’s request of Evaline’s father?
This is a historical mystery which will keep you on the edge of your seat as you explore Londinium and solve the clues in this fast paced fantasy, with elements of Sherlock Holmes and the paranormal throughout.

Evaline is a necromancer who sees herself as a future detective. She looks up to Sherlock Holmes and wants to follow in his footsteps. Life has other plans for her. Being a woman in the late 1800s, she doesn’t have many rights. Her father has arranged a marriage to a man she does not like at all. Everything she wants to do is frowned upon, even her magical abilities.
A woman, named Nerezza, shows up seeking help from Evaline’s father. A creature called Dr. Death is wreaking havoc upon her world and there is an artifact she thinks can stop the creature. Unfortunately after the death of his wife, he stepped back in his normal job for unearthing valuable artifacts. Evaline’s interest is piqued and she decides to follow the woman and offer her help.
Nerezza decides to take advantage of Evaline’s offer and flings her into her own world which is a mirror version of London. Evaline has to use her wits and magic to help find this artifact and Dr. Death.
Someone else said that this is like Alice in Wonderland meets Sherlock Holmes and I completely agree with that statement. It was exciting and mysterious and kept me on the edge of my seat. Ending on a cliffhanger, I cannot wait for the second book of the series!

This book was such a fun read. I read a lot of reviews comparing it to Alice in Wonderland, I was iffy about it, but it’s not a retelling, and it only has some similarities. It is the perfect combination of paranormal, adventure, mystery, magic and so much more. it was so exciting to read about Evaline’s adventure and story. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. would definitely recommend it!

Evaline is a necromancer and the daughter of an important man, who I felt was controlling to keep both him and her safe. But Evaline has different plans, she was set on helping others and making a difference in life, that she was finding herself in some interesting situations. This rabbit hole of a book I fell in love while reading just kept me wanting more and more of what was going to happen. I found the character development was done extremely well, and the back stories that go with it was just as entraining. Along with the world building in this book it really made me feel like I could imagine with detail what it was like. This amazing mystery, paranormal and magical, with artifacts and ancient things is amazing and something I thoroughly enjoy reading about. This book kept me in my toes and wanting to read more and not put it down. It was really well written and thought out, it’s a must read.

A Tale of a Body Thief was my first book from by Kristy Centeno and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! This was a great introduction to the Rovena Silvex Chronicles. The world building in this story is -phenomenal-. The characters are extremely well fleshed out. I adored the strength and perseverance of Rovena. She is no ordinary demon hunter and she is very good at what she does. For me, this book was a slow-burn, and enjoyably so. Many things are transpiring and building and it is absolutely worth the wait. This book concludes perfectly to lead into the next and I can say that I am very excited to dive in when the following book for this series comes out. I definitely recommend, even if paranormal fantasy is not your typical go-to!

4.5 out of 5 stars Princess of Prias, by Courtney Davis: First, let me start by saying I really enjoyed Princess of Prias, and was unable to put it down once I started it. Princess of Prias is a beautiful story of girl named Elle (L) who goes on an unexpected adventure to find the truth about who she is, and where she came from.
The story begins with a tragic scene which leaves our heroine orphaned as a newborn on a planet not her home, Earth. Thankfully, she was taken in by a kind woman who taught her love and acceptance as she grew into the bright young woman she was meant to be. Although she grew up with her Aunt Sarah, who had taken her in and loved her, she still always felt like she didn’t quite belong. That something was different about her, more than just her physical appearance of purple eyes, and a blue star shaped birthmark.
Throughout Elle’s adventure, she lives out every young girl’s dream, finding out she is a long-lost princess. But she’s so much more than that, she is her people’s savior, and during her adventure she learns more about herself, her people, and what she can do to save them. She finds she is more powerful than she could have ever imagined and learns to use that power to save her world.
This wonderful book tells the life of our heroine Elle who goes on an unexpected adventure to find the truth about her origins. Along the way, she finds out truths about herself she would have never expected. Her adventure is met with friends, betrayal, love, and so so much more.

Wow! Where to start, where to start. Honestly, this novel was much different than any other that I have read, and I think that that is a very good thing. Just the back and forth between Rovena and Lakyn would be entertaining enough, in my opinion, never mind the demons and responsibilities that came from Rovena’s line of work. It takes a little while to really get into it, but once connections are established, boy oh boy was it an addictive read.
There is so much tension, sexual and otherwise, fantastic character development, and world building and I felt as though it was just the right length. I love the lessons within these pages as well, such as not judging a book by it’s cover, and by following your gut instinct, and all those delicious life lessons. I very much look forward to reading more by this author, and I think you would do well to give this a read. Well done!
