Makayla is back for her third year at Grave Digger Academy, but it may be her last. Not just students but teachers are also going missing. Will she be able to uncover who is behind the disappearances or will she become one of the missing? This has been a fun series to read so far. I have enjoyed the world building and character development the author has produced. I don’t necessarily feel as though you would get lost if you were to read any of the books as a standalone, however it would give you a bit more of the back story if you were to do so. I started this at the beginning and 5/5 I would highly recommend.

Grave Digger Academy III is the third engrossing story in the Grave Digger Academy series by the talented C.A. King. It follows on from the previous two Grave Digger Academy stories and continues the adventures of Makayla and all the intriguing happenings at the academy.
It is a fantastic addition to the series, and I was really excited to rejoin Makayla for some more fun adventures. As with the rest of the series this is a superb YA paranormal fantasy with action, mystery, the supernatural, wonderful quirky characters, dramatic developments, tension, intrigue, danger, and plenty of twists and turns.
As we discovered previously Makayla didn’t want to attend Grave Digger Academy, at all- but has had plenty of interesting adventures since she started- that’s for sure. There’s always more to Grave Digger Academy expected and, in this instalment, where Makayla is about to start her third year, things certainly get off to a very interesting start. With mysterious happenings, disappearances, stricter rules, a little mayhem, tension, magic, and more- Makayla’s third year proves to be quite memorable, in all kinds of ways.
A wonderful addition to the series!
Looking forward to Book #4!

Thank you, C.A King!

The shadows are darker this year and everything leads to more questions. This is the third book in the Grave Digger Academy (GDA) and yes, to get a full understanding of the story, plot, characters it is best to read them in order as each book is a continuation of the events in the previous book.
Makayla’s actions in the previous book led to extremes on both sides. Her family name is now well known and Grave Digger Academy is no longer seen as the end of the road but where heroes go. So much hype leads to her older brothers escorting her to school this year and discovering the terrifying journey just to reach the grounds. Only not hearing from her friends or her helpers all break is just the beginning. The gargoyles that are ever present watching the entrance of the school are missing, something Makayla notices immediately. Moreover, there are even fewer students this year than before, teachers and students disappearing, including Frankie. While Griffin has reappeared his words from previous books about them forgetting him Makayla is able to hold on to a feeling of him not quite a memory but its something. Some see her as a hero, but others think she is working for the other side, regardless of the fact she has handed over the stones each time. The Crones have plans for her and Headmistress Mary Meet, they seem determined to make both go down with GDA good or bad to the very end, not allowing them the same deal as others to transfer out. Visions attack her from the moment she steps on the school grounds, her brothers shocked and confused but with no choice forced to return to their own school.
Will Makayla succeed in finding everyone that disappeared? Where are her helpers? If she wins what will be the price? Once again, the incredible C.A. King pulls you back into the shadows to learn the secrets hidden in their depths. The characters, while the same, have evolved so much since year one and only continue to grow as they learn and fight for good. Unable to put it down from start to finish it always leaves me needing more answers when I finish feeling like it wasn’t long enough. Heart racing as I hurry to book four, Grave Digger Academy IV. The suspense continues.

Grave Digger Academy III by C. A. King is part of the series of the same name. All books should be read in order as they follow Makayla during her years at the academy. Mckayla is in for another crazy year. When she gets back to school and realizes that almost no one is back, no one is allowed to transfer in or out. She is confined to the school, not allowed to leave, stricter rules, and still basically no magic. That is until she’s forced into the woods to find a new helper. As she’s told to find normal. However, we are finding out that Makayla is anything but normal. I’m enjoying this series. I missed Makayla and her ways. I like that she was finally able to learn some magic. I have a feeling shes going to be much more powerful than she ever thought. I’m looking forward to seeing as her power shifts and what sort of things she is able to do.

Makayla is back at Grave Digger Academy for another school year. She is looking forward to seeing her friends and helpers but the Crones have other plans. It looks like the year is going to be different than she planned. When she arrives at school nothing is how she thought it would be including her friends. Even the headmistress does not know how to fix things. And as time passes it looks like Makayla is pretty much on her own except for the help of some new friends that are introduced in this book. There are some great plot twists that I didn’t see coming in this one. I read this one way faster than I meant to and am definitely looking forward to book 4!

Doombringer by Marcel Liemant – Review By Crystal Walker (11/2023)

All though I am new to this series or even the writer!!! I will say that this was an interesting read for sure. With the thought process that went into the writing, the imagination and the passion that Marcel Leimant used I am thoroughly impressed. This alone made for an enjoyable book even with the slow start. This was not generally one I normally would have chosen but Oden and his daughter definitely had an adventure ahead of them. The other characters made me think of Greek mythology and I will say that is what kept me drawn to it. I would like to eventually see what becomes of this writer and his characters.

This amazing continuation hooked me from the first page and had me stuck until the last sentence! The Grave Digger Academy series is full of intriguing settings, wonderful dialogue, and characters with quirks you would never expect! It is truly fun to read and is packed with both intensity and lightheartedness! I absolutely love Makayla and all of her helpers! I really liked the ones included for this book, especially Apotropia! It also always makes me smile with Thomas and his squirrels! This third installment had a wonderfully paced story that didn’t feel rushed even though the book was short. It also contains a wonderful air of mystery that grips you throughout. This book could definitely be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting with the first book to take in everything about this fantastical world that C.A. King created!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Marcel Liemant brings us an intriguing YA dark fantasy that has it all for.
It is full of magic, monsters/ beasts, prophecies, secrets and lies in the adventure tale Doombringer. It is a very short read but packs a punch.
It’s easy to get drawn into this fantasy world that Marcel has cleverly woven together where there is darkness around every corner. Where there is things that go bump in the night. Where one man has the fate of the world on his shoulders. Where he would do anything to save his daughter even if it means he loses himself along the way.
This adventure tale is full of action, threatening war, epic battles, danger, life and death decisions.
Only a miracle can save them all.
If you love a good gipping dark fantasy tale, then Marcel has got your covered.
I look forward to seeing what else Marcel brings out.

Grave Digger Academy 3 is the continuation of Makayla’s story as she returns to school for her third year. After the drama of the previous year, she is expecting to be overwhelmed with new students however the reality is very different with some familiar faces not returning. Makayla has also got to face the new rules imposed on her that don’t allow her helpers to aid in her quest for answers. I think this is a really fun series, I just wish the books were longer! Looking forward to reading book 4 to see what happens next.

This is a really enjoyable fantasy adventure. This story was really powerful for me. As a parent myself I can understand Oden’s need to do anything he can to protect his daughter from the reality of how dangerous and dead their world is and also to hide her from the things that happen that would scare an adult never mind a child. Like most parents Oden provides this protection no matter the cost to himself.
But all magic comes at a cost and Oden knows the cost of protecting his daughter in this way will mean losing his life. As the next war is due to start its not just his daughter that Oden has to protect but with his time almost up will he be able to provide the miracle they need to save the remaining people?
This is a story filled with magic, adventure, prophecies, danger, the constant threat of war and one man’s determination to protect his daughter no matter the cost. It is a gripping and moving story which I really enjoyed.

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. This is the third book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous books in this series as well. Makayla is back in another school year with a new suspenseful fantasy. A story where there are more than just dead bodies being dug up but also where no secrets are safe. These students are about to find out why skeletons are better off in a closet. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their story. Makayla is a great character that has been my favorite of this series. She is strong, engaging and adds so much to the story. The things she finds herself in keep me turning pages fast. I enjoyed the growth of this story which made it easy and entertaining to read. A fast paced, hard to put down story. A shorter story that packs non-stop fantasy. This is one you don’t want to miss or this series for sure. I enjoyed this book and I think you will as well. I highly recommend this book.

Doombringer by Marcel Liemant is a bit of an epic fantasy adventure with magic, prophecy, secrets, discovery, monsters, action, war/battles, challenges, dramatic developments, and high stakes.
This story tells the tale of the lengths a father is willing to go to in order to save his daughter from doom. But in his quest to save her, he finds himself thrust into an adventure with the fate of the realm resting in his hands. He must find a way to end the war, but at what cost? Add some darkness, corrupting magic, terrifying beasts, danger, challenges, and great risk- and this story takes an engrossing turn.
This proved to be an intriguing read, and I am looking forward to exploring more of this author’s work in the future.
Happy Reading…

Grave Digger Academy III is a wonderful YA paranormal fantasy. Each book is delightful and gets better than the last. Make sure to read them in order so you get the back story and understanding of the characters.
I love that the series is unique and original and full of fun. This intriguing story flows well and is well written. It is an exciting tale and is full of delightful and quirky characters that feel real.
Grave Digger Academy is the place everyone wants to be at now, but it is a place where nothing is as it seems, and people are disappearing. With Witches, death, graves, deadly foes, deadly secrets, deadly games the twisted turns the intensity is turned up and mayhem and madness ensues. Expect the unexpected.
Makayla is back at the Grave Digger Academy and finds there is something amiss and at the Academy. Who is this new foe? There is something darker at the Academy this time. It already has lots of secrets and things hidden within the grounds and in the darkness. Things that definitely go bump in the night.

I have said it before but will say it again there are still so many layers to be explored and revealed due to the unique nature of this world C.A has created.
Follow along as Makayla and friends delve into the current mystery. You won’t be disappointed.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars Audiobook (The Crown of Stones Book 2) by C. L. Schneider – Review by Cindy Mayberry

First I highly recommend you start this series at the beginning with Book 1. This story has so much more than I expected. I enjoy reading the series from this author. This is a fantasy that will take you places in your mind. Ian Troy was trapped in a prison set by the King. Everything he knows has been taken from him. He endured beating, drugs and even his memories were taken. They also took his magic. So sad and yet so worth reading, and listening to. After getting rescued he now has to find himself. What will he remember? Can he take his life back? This story is well written and a page turner for sure. Hop onto this rollercoaster of emotions and enjoy the ride. I refuse to give you spoilers. This is one story you will have read to believe. I am excited to dive into book 3.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Makayla is a witch and for the last two years has attended the Grave Digger Academy and no, it isn’t somewhere you learn how to bury a dead body, that’s the job of a gravedigger, a Grave Digger, stops them from coming back out. Makayla hasn’t had it easy these last two years and seems to always be the centre of trouble, however, when she goes back to the Academy for her third year, it isn’t as she remembers it, its empty!

That along with an ominous feeling brewing in her gut and nobody to talk to means that Makayla is destined to have a lonely year, but when she starts the actual term, the loneliness doesn’t last for long, but she realises just how much she relied on others for help, especially when none is forthcoming.

Will Makayla find out any explanations for why the Academy is so empty and why nobody wants to even associate themselves with her, or will the trouble she is always trying to avoid find her again? This is yet another fantastic glimpse into a world where skeletons aren’t just in the closet, where secrets abound, danger lies around every corner and mythical entities are revealing themselves.

About C.A. King

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you differently.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars Audiobook (The Crown of Stones Book 2) by C. L. Schneider – Review by Deb Robinson

Magic, despair, tragedy and war are just some of the intricacies of this story.

The narrator brings you head first into the story and grabs your attention with both hands. I didn’t read the first book but will be doing so now to see how the story progresses from the beginning.

My heart went out to Ian at the beginning of this story as he was freed from a prison where he was drugged and robbed of the magic and his memories. He couldn’t trust anyone. He was ready for battle at each step.

As he slowly began to gain his memories back and his magic not all decisions were correct. He needs to find The Crown of Stones and the Oracle spell. Will he be able to find it without destroying everything in his path? Will he survive or be captured again?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Raven Academy by Brandi Elledge and boy did it have me on the edge of my seat; such an excellent beginning to a series.

The characters and storyline are very well thought out and excellent for teens or even adults like myself. Brandi’s writing style is super easy to follow and relate to. The beginning is a little info heavy, but I promise it is worth it to keep on going and it is important for the rest of the book. Brandi does excellent with her world building with all of the different characters – vampires, witches, etc.

There is everything you need for an excellent book, drama, who is going to die questions, who is going to be saved, suspense, different species not just one, which i love particularly.

You won’t want to put this book down and you will eagerly be waiting for book two!

Riley lives a boring life in a world filled with danger. She is taught to stay within the walls and follow the rules if she wants to survive in today’s world filled with monsters. She is taught to fear the dark and the shadows that lurk in it. Now that Riley is nearing her 18th birthday, she is bored living in the constraints of her religious upbringing and wants to leave the community. Just one more year of school and Riley and her best friend Sam, will make a run for it.

When Riley starts the new school year she is met with a group of new kids from outside the city walls. Instantly she is intrigued, especially by one of the new kids in particular. She knows that they are trouble but the call of the outside world is too strong for Riley to ignore. At what price will Riley pay to get what she truly wants?

I absolutely loved this book. One of my favourites this year. The author did an amazing job building the world and all that’s in it. The author combined a bunch of creatures from Vampires and werewolves to Witches and those that are known as the Shadow Bringers. I was hooked from page one. Riley was always the perfect child, never broke any rules and it was nice to watch her come into her own and stop caring about what others want her to do, doing her own thing instead. She is strong and will do anything for those she loves. I cannot see what the group will do next in this next book in the series!

Riley was raised in a very safe community which seems what you’d hope for yourself and your family. But she is completely and utterly bored and that can make for a dangerous position. Will Riley be able to stay safe, or will she finally find her way out of this boredom? This suspenseful fantasy is one you won’t want to miss! What happens when a religious upbringing and a rebellious nature collide?

The answer is a very bored teenager and that is exactly what one teenager is feeling while living in her community which feels more like a prison, or a cage than anything else, especially when her life just seems to be ruled by fear and anxiety. Fear of the outside and the impure who live there, those vampires, werewolves and witches, not to mention the mysteruois Shadow Bringers, and just when reports of these entities start to appear more frequently, there is an influx of new kids at the start of her last school year.

Unfortunately, these new kids seem to be a lot different to the ones she is used to being around and not in a good way, they are rude, obnoxious and of course totally hot, which doesn’t help matters. As classes begin and pairings are made, an unlikely one begins, but this leaves more questions than answers until one night, all the answers are there for the taking.

Unfortunately, the answers have led into extreme danger, confusion, lies, revelations and a possibly deadly outcome, so what happens when a bored teenager gets all the answers? For this answer, you will have to read the book and discover all the ins and outs of this safe haven and the dangerous world around it, as you are pulled deep into the story with no wish to escape until you know what happens.

Shadow Bringer (Raven Academy Book 1) by Brandi Elledge – Review by Crystal Jimmo

Shadow Bringer: Raven AcademyShadow Bringer: Raven Academy by Brandi Elledge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a fantastic read! I felt like it had the perfect supernatural balance between the community. Not one get more “screen” time, each one gets about an equal amount. Riley lives in a very “cult-like” village. Nobody is allowed beyond the fence. It’s a dangerous world outside the fence. So when some new students from outside of the fence are welcomed into their little village, Riley is instantly enamored. Especially one particular character. But his knowledge and help come with a price. A steep price. Does she risk everything to go beyond the fence? Or does she stay in her town where it is “safe?” I seriously can’t wait to read the 2nd book to see what happens!
