I enjoyed this installment of this series. Makayla’s continuing adventure as she navigates the magical world and the issues in that world is very intriguing. The author has created a really interesting world and a story that keeps me interested in how it will evolve. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

GDA is the third book in the series. Is best to read the books In order to be able to follow the story line. The characters are so much fun and different from what I expected. The way that magic is portrait is so different from what I’m use to see. I think this books are really good and definitely worth your time.

This has been a really incredible amazing YA paranormal fantasy series. When Makayla is back at school things are what they use to be, teachers and students a like are missing, and the way things were done are not the way they are now. Makayla decides to figure out what is going on and along the way makes new friends and learns new things. I love how the story just flows together and is easy to follow just like the others. I do believe that if you want to you could read all the books by themselves, but it would be more beneficial to start from the beginning. Makayla has been an amazing character and has really grown in the books, and really takes a leadership like lead. This book like all the others is filled with action, mystery, the supernatural, wonderful quirky characters, dramatic developments, tension, intrigue, danger, and plenty of twists and turns.

Grave Digger Academy 4 is the next part of the series by C.A. King. I am loving this series so far, cannot wait for part 5 already. This book is the continuation of Makayla’s story, she is back at school for her 4th year but she is not sure who she can trust. The school has changed so much, new staff, new students and new dangers. Makayla has to work our who is on her side before she takes her next step, with a little help from her relatives. This is such a fun series, I hate having to wait on the next book. I need to know how it will end.

King – Review by Juls Dick
Makayla returns for a fourth year at the Grave Digger Academy, but as soon as she arrives, something is different, there have been some repairs made to the building, but they are only half finished and unfortunately, that can mean only one thing, the rumours she heard over the summer about the Academy are true, but not only that, the loneliness she felt, even though she was surrounded by family is going to continue this year as well. This is confirmed as soon as she walks into the dining hall where the students and teachers are gathered, she can see that they are all staring daggers at her and nobody wants her to sit with them, not even her friends, or at least the ones who are actually there.
This isn’t the only change, classes and teachers are different as well, Makayla is hoping that they will learn something useful this year, but that loneliness comes back when she realises that she cannot summon her helpers again, another drawback to the new changes. There are, however, some positive things for Makayla to look forward to, possible forging a new friendship, answers to her questions and the ability to follow her dreams so that she is able to achieve her goals and make these possibilities, realities.
As usual, things do not go quite to plan for Makayla and her group, but while she is finding the answers she needs, she knows she is being observed and that means that danger is always on the horizon, but can Makayla achieve the answers to her questions and reconnect with her past, so that she can live through the present? This is yet another fantasy adventure across graveyards, both new and forgotten, as well as twists and turns between magical travels and enchanting places.

“The first new teacher of the year reared his ugly face. Mr. Ogre looked much the same as storybooks described a male of the fantasy species his name implied. Inhumanly sized both in height and weight. Check. A disproportionately large head. Check. An abundant amount of greasy hair, a fat, round nose, thick eyebrows, and protruding lower jaw. Check, check, check, and check. Of course, he could have been a Neanderthal. Somehow she doubted her new teacher was the missing link to anything though. An actual ogre was more likely, especially given the stench which accompanied him. Curdled milk. Yuck! A growl accompanied a loud belch. “Take your seats. Ahem.” He tugged at the loose skin on his neck. “Ahem. You.” He pointed with a fat finger at a girl in the front row of seats. “Fetch me some water.” A second belch blew her hair straight back. “Quickly.” The girl did as requested. Anyone in the class would have. They all knew what came after burps like that. Stinky gas was one thing. Vomit was another. There’d be a crowd in the sick room if their teacher upchucked on all his students.”
Grave Digger Academy IV is the fourth engrossing story in the Grave Digger Academy series by the talented C.A. King. It follows on from the previous three Grave Digger Academy stories and continues the adventures of Makayla and all the intriguing events at the mysterious Grave Digger Academy. As we previously discovered, Makayla didn’t really want to attend Grave Digger Academy, at all, but has since had plenty of intriguing and testing adventures. There’s always more to Grave Digger Academy than expected. And in this instalment, Makayla will face some big changes, and more challenges, while also unearthing a few discoveries – about her world, the Academy, and herself – along the way. Welcome to the fourth year of Grave Digger Academy! As expected, this is a wonderful addition to the series, and with the rest of the series- it is a superbly crafted paranormal fantasy with plenty of adventure, action, mystery, magic, the supernatural, wonderful quirky characters, dramatic developments, tension, intrigue, danger, and clever twists and turns. Although this is a short story, it has the impact of a much longer novel- which I love. I can’t wait for more. Bring on Book #5! Happy Reading…

I’ve read Magic-Scars and the entire Crown of Stones Trilogy before but wanted to enjoy the book again; this time in audiobook format.
The narrator, Jonathan Ricardo, brings the voice of Ian Troy to life. The intensity of the book increases from listening versus reading it ten fold. I loved the pacing and cadence of his voice, he portrays Ian perfectly.
Magic-Scars starts two and a half year after Magic-Price (the first book) ends. Ian Troy gets rescued from the mines and has no memory due to Draken drugging him. He has been tortured and forced to do heinous acts. As he slowly gets his terrible memories back bit by bit, he must forgive himself again for the death and loss of those around him. He doesn’t know who to trust or how he acted before and is going solely by instinct. Join Ian on his journey to rediscover his past and to right the present.
This audiobook is only meant for adults due to the graphic scenes, including sex. I loved this book even more than the first book due to feeling a great connection to Troy from the loss of his memories. He keeps trying to do what he believes is right and protect those around him while trying to break the mold he was shoved in. I was shocked towards the end of the book when I believed all hope was lost, I was crushed and cried only to be saved a little towards the end.
C.L. Schneider is by far one of my favorite authors! Any book she writes I want to read and/or listen to. I can’t wait to enjoy the rest of The Crown of Stones series in audiobook format.

L. Schneider – Review by Callie Luna
Mystery grows as everything changes. This book picks up shortly after the previous book. Near the end of the summer break before the next year begins. But the rules that caused her so many issues over break were just the beginning or what was to come. Makayla has another important dream to a town known as Athenia where people go to be forgotten. Seeing and hearing the name Peacock she feels it’s important but unsure of the reason at first. Mary Meet won’t be taking over Grave Digger Academy (GDA) yet, but the Crones aren’t closing it either, yet. While initially excited and happy when she received her letter to go back to GDA that quickly changes. A bus meant for criminals arrives to take her to the academy, a new Headmistress Ulva Everbleed. The building looked amazing, but half renovated and at a standstill as the Crones took over, putting a stop to everything Mary Meet was doing. More students were present than she had ever seen there before and seeing Leo and Thomas she thinks things will be good. Only they give her the cold shoulder, Cali, and Frankie nowhere to be seen when a bomb is dropped on her emotionally. Only those who received a letter were allowed to return this year, but not everyone received a letter. Most were likely only there as an obligation to protect their families from repercussions if they refused to attend. Everything different, a new set of rules that must be followed and each person assigned to classes and not allowed to change them. Griffin is there and offers a truce, as they seem to only have each other. A warmth fills her with his smile and again as they shake in agreement, he says he will explain things later but then vanishes without a word of explanation. Not one to beat around the bush goes to the new Headmistress, asks about Mary Meet and why helpers aren’t allowed. Told Mary is being interrogated and will return when finished and helpers banned because of control. A parting word of advice to Makayla, stick to classes, slow and steady and watch out for others trying to use her to accelerate their accomplishments. Why is Mary Meet being interrogated? How can she be used to help others accelerate their accomplishments? Why is she always the villain in the Crones stories and rules? Once again, the author takes us deeper into Makayla’s world where nothing is what it seems, and everything is listening with an agenda of their own. She thought this year was finally going to be her year, she had her friends, her magic had come in and she had eight helpers. Day one, helpers gone, friends gone, and her only ally, she hopes, is a guy no one can remember. The mystery and suspense continue to evolve leading to more questions and some answers can’t wait for the next book. Grave Digger Academy V is coming October 1st, 2024. What will Makayla face next?

Year four at the Grave Digger Academy is unlike any other for Makayla. There are more students than last year and there is a new headmistress. There are more new rules compared to last year. Some students were not invited back from previous years and it’s unclear why. The Crones are really honing in on Makayla and her movements. She ends up meeting some unexpected people who help her out along the way. Can she survive this year of school?
Another great read! This one was a bit shorter than the others but still covered a lot of ground. I’m looking forward to year 5!

It’s the start of Makayla’s third year at the Grave Digger Academy. Things are a little different from last year and Makayla feels like she’s a target. First of all, where are all the students? What’s with all the new rules? Makayla knows there’s about to be an adventure and she’s not sure she’s ready to deal with it or the fall out.
I recommend reading this series in order as the background established in previous books is key to understanding what’s happening. Another great read by C.A. King! Now on to book 4!

I am loving this series so far! I definitely recommend reading the books in order so you have the full story. I love that they are quick reads and still give you a full story. Makayla is back at Grave Digger Academy but things are different. Like really different. The year is not going to go as she had planned but when has it ever. She doesn’t know who she can trust and needs friends now more than ever to help her with her plan. When the person she was able to trust last year is nowhere to be found it makes things that much harder. Some new characters are introduced, some likable, some not so much. There was a plot twist I was not expecting and then another that makes me want to read book 5 now! I cannot wait to see where things go!

I love this series! This is book 4, and while I loved the book, I felt there was very limited information on what New has happened.
Usually, C.A. King can write a 100-150 page book, and I feel like I’ve read an intense amount of details, but this book felt as if it was rushed and thrown together. Even with that said, it wasn’t a bad read, just very, very short and not a lot of details.
The Crones are out in full force again. This time, who can she trust? Anyone? This year, she isn’t even allowed to have her helpers! She is being watched at every turn and of course the person she turns to is the one person everyone forgets about meeting immediately. I feel a romance brewing there 👀.
Now that she has chosen to exile herself to a grave yard no one even knows exists, will she have the opportunity to change the magic world for the better? Will she uncover more nasty truths the Crones have made disappear?

It just keeps getting better and better. Mikayla learned about familiars in this book. She meets her grandmother. You’ll have to read the story to find out what happens. A lot of questions and some are answered. The adventure is still absolutely wonderful. Some of her friends part ways. Griffin is still in the picture and I’m waiting for the answer to that mystery. This is a wonderful paranormal series that is a must read. I can’t wait for book 5 to come out.

Wow, so many more questions brought up now. The mystery continues as Faunia and the Crones are out to get Mikayla. I felt like I was on the journey with them. Feeling left out and not being able to use her helpers, she has to get through a lot of this on her own. She still doesn’t really know who to trust. The adventure is there. She’s learning the magic as she goes. Griffin is playing an integral role and I’m waiting to see what it is. Nobody can remember him. I’m loving the twists and the characters. This really is a series you can dig into. You definitely need to read it in order to understand it.

Year 2 and the trouble continues. Makayla is back and finds herself find up for the inter-academy games. Oh man, the pressure keeps adding on and they haven’t even taught them magic yet. No one from the previous year was allowed to transfer so everyone is back. I love this series. You have the home drama with Mom and her lies, and her brothers. You have Professor Woolsey and the Aegis Stones. You have Griffin who noone can seem to remember. So many little subplots, yet they still go so well together. It’s like a paranormal version of Harry Potter, only darker. I love the entertaining characters. Who can you trust? Twists and turns and Crones, oh my. On to book 3.

4.5 stars Grave Digger Academy IV by C.A. King is another fantastic YA paranormal fantasy in the light-hearted Grave Digger Academy series. This book carries on from the other three, so I suggest you read them all in order or you are missing out on so much goodness. This adventurous tale flows well with great world-building, and a set of delightful characters. The series is a complex multi layered tale that is simplistic in its telling. This delightful world is to be peeled back layer by layer and reveal all its secrets. Each book gets better than the last and the world is unique and original. The plot is well thought out and is an exciting and the Academy is full of secrets where things are hidden within the grounds and in the dark and go bump in the night. Makayla is back for another year with a new headmistress, new curriculum, disappearing allies, worrying Crones and lots more. But they may not be the answers she wants to hear. Things are never as they seem in Makayla’s world. Grave Digger Academy is where you will find witches, death, graves, deadly foes, deadly secrets, deadly games, twisted turns and mayhem and madness. Journey along as Makayla is determined to find answers. Even though it is aimed at YA readers I am certainly enjoying this series and I am 61. I can’t wait for more.

She gives her stories a realistic feel. This one is no different. This is the fourth book and a new year of students. There is a new headmistress with new ideas. As students come up missing Makayla finds herself alone and not knowing who to trust. What is happening to those that have disappeared? This is a fast paced story that you don’t want to miss. It is a shorter story but it packs a lot into a short amount of time. The characters are creative, strong and engaging. They had me turning pages fast just to see what would happen next. Bookbub – Grave Digger Academy IV (Grave Digger Academy Series) by C.A. King
Gravediggers actually do the digging. Grave Diggers, however, keep buried bodies where they belong—six feet under.
**********************************************
Helpers have been outlawed.
New faces have been shipped in to keep a watchful eye.
Old allies seem unreliable.
This year’s students find themselves studying under a new headmistress who implements an entirely new curriculum. With allies disappearing left and right, Makayla finds herself more alone than ever. Still, she’s determined to find answers, ones which will lead her to understanding who she is and why the Crones are so worried about her.
I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.
Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.
To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.
People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.
I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you differently.
I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.
Fast forward to today…

Drugged and beaten… Ian is tortured and comes around unbeknownst to him…a prisoner after 2 years….not remembering what happened. Of course King Draken is at his full rule and cruel and dark as ever. Ian Troy is rescued and trying to put the pieces back together especially trying to find the truth still in the Crown of Stones….
If you love a gripping fantasy story I very highly recommend this audiobook. I cannot wait until I listen to book 3 in the series.

Very interesting book. It did take me a bit to get into the story, but alas, I did. The way the mage’s song was described, I can only image how terrifying that would sound. Watching the adventure and life and death situations Oden encounters trying to protect his daughter and the world she lives in was nerve wracking and brave. He wanted to ensure her future even if it meant he was going to be taken from her. Penny is a strong little girl, Oden doesn’t give her enough credit, but I think by the end he realizes just how much Penny understands and can help. It feels like more is coming for the town of Shard Moure, it feels like the mages have just retreated for now.
I enjoyed reading the continuing adventures of Makayla. Being with her as she learns more about magic and the reality of who she is has been very interesting. The world created by this author is very vibrant and intense and the story has some very interesting twist and turns as Makayla works to unravel the mystery that shrouds the past and the history of necromancy and the witches that practiced it. This series just keeps getting better and better as it continues and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Doombringer is a Dark Fantasy that is a fast paced short story. I wasn’t real sure what to expect going in as this is a new author to me but I’m glad did. The characters are unique ,creative and developed. The storyline flowed. Oden recently buried his wife and his village marred he’s lost all hope. He wants to protect his daughter from their looming fate. Oden is determined to do what needs to be done . Will power destroy Oden before he has a chance to end the war? I highly recommend reading this short story to find out what happens next. Im looking forward to reading more from this Author.

This was a short read; and it was good. I was intrigued from the very beginning with the plot and characters! It has a similar cadence to some other “high fantasy” novels I’ve read in the past, which I greatly enjoyed. If you’re a lover of high fantasy, then I recommend this for you!
This series was definitely interesting, and you can tell the author put a lot of thought into writing the book. However, I feel it fell flat in a few areas, and at times was hard to follow the storyline. The book does have a very slow start, but I did enjoy it, as you really were able to connect and get a good feel for the characters. This story is focuses deeply on perseverance even though the characters had a LOT of hardships and challenges. My favorite aspect of this story was that it was set in dark fantasy world – that alone captivated my attention. As the story came to a climax, it definitely made your breathing almost stop. Would Oden end up ending this war…or would he die first? The relationship between Oden and his daughter was absolutely beautiful, and explained as well as showed exactly how far a father will go for their child. Even though, I believe this was written as a stand-alone, the author did leave room if they wanted to write another book that followed the ending or just was another story in this dark fantasy world. I do recommend reading this book, as the messages throughout the book were absolutely beautiful and thought out. I look forward to reading more by this author.

This book is one heck of an adventure. I found that the adventure just grabs you from the beginning. Troy is still my favorite character. He’s trying to adjust from being out of prison and finds himself fighting a war. Non-stop action, great dialogue, intriguing characters all make for a winner. The narrator does a fantastic job of making you feel like you are right there listening to the story, right in the middle of the action. This is one of my favorite authors. She writes in such a way that you feel like you’ve been on an adventure also.
5/5 stars

Oden Treaty is a desperate man, he has lost everything he cared for to war and magic, apart from his home, his daughter and his best friend, but life is hard for those he lives with, the wars left his town ravaged by fire and the only thing keeping them going is ale in the local tavern and working in the mines. Despite all of this, Oden still tries to keep his daughter’s childhood magical, and he is pushing himself to the edge to do it.
One day, dark smoke rolls into the town heralding war again, Oden knows that this is the end of times for them and as he tries to shore up his own courage to face it and bring that confidence to the rest of the residents. However, grief and desperation have eroded that confidence away and Oden knows that it is now up to him to save what is left of his family and their world, so when he hears of a prophecy, he knows he has to follow it and hope it leads to their saviour.
Unfortunately, with using so much magic himself over his lifetime, his body is quickly giving out on him, so a new urgency causes him to go to the only place, which is still holding, the mines, but will he find the answers he needs to save his world, or will his body become too corrupted to go on? This is a magical race against time in a fantasy world fraught with danger and darkness, which sucks you in and pulls you along on a tide of hope.
