Delicious Death (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 2) by Byrd Nash – Review by Jenni Bishop

Delicious Death (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #2)Delicious Death by Byrd Nash
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Byrd knows how to write good gaslamp ghostly fantasy tales. Delicious Death is the second book in this historical series Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries. They are fun and easy to read.
In this book Medium Elinor Chalamet finds herself trying to thwart an assassination. Murder, mystery and mayhem seem to find Madam Chalamet where ever she goes. There is no time off for this super sleuth even on holiday.
Unfortunately as always the Duke thinks he is suited to find the suspect and once again getting in her way making things harder than they need. Gotta love the Duke.
Now she must try to find the real suspect before murder once again becomes a reality.

I look forward to more.

This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up by her. This is the second book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous book as well. I enjoyed reading this book as much as the first, if not more. This is a well written story where the author used details to make the story come to life. A fast paced story that was not only hard to put down but had me turning pages fast just to see what would happen next. There is great growth throughout the story with not only the characters but the plot itself. This is a fast paced story that has characters that are connectable. This is a great story that I highly recommend. You don’t want to miss what happens.

Oh, Elinor is at it again. Though this time, she is on vacation and enjoying the culinary treats, she somehow finds herself mixed in trouble again. I love this series because Elinor can take care of herself but the good Duc d’Archambeau is there to assist her. Elinor’s ghost talking skills are called into use when someone is attacked again. I loved the story in this book of the series. The writing flows so well. The characters are well=written and just fit into the story. Elinor is so strong that it’s great to watch a strong female protagonist in a story during a time period where that is not common. I also find that her relationship developing with Duc d’Archambeau is quite entertaining. This is a very good read and another wonderful book in The Ghost Talker Series. You should definitely get out there and read it.

Thwarting an assassination wasn’t on the menu.

In the southern town of Vouvant, Elinor’s goal was to eat rich food and celebrate if her favorite chef won the Winter Revels.

Between saving a young society lady and solving the problem of a widower who grieves too much, Ghost Talker Elinor Chalamet has her hands full.

Meanwhile, an assassin wants to seize the crown by murdering the king. Even more irritating is that Tristan Fontaine, duke de Archambeau, is trying to solve the crime before she can.

The first of a six part gaslamp fantasy ghost mystery series featuring a strong female character in a slow burn romance.

Spinning tales of subtle magic with unexpected twists, she packages satisfying stories that reads like no others. Byrd writes the book you need, not the one you expected.

Described by one reviewer as a “literary glass of bourbon after a long day,” and another: “When I get a Byrd story, I know I’m in good hands.”

Whether it is a Doppelgänger who was once a medieval knight now working in college administration, or an updated Red Riding Hood escaping a post-WWI wolf pack, her characters all feel real.

That Celtic goddess at the pet store? She’s someone you know. A medieval queen fleeing an abusive marriage? You experience her pain and triumph.

With a B.A. in journalism, she worked as a newspaper reporter, covering news, schools, and lifestyle for both weeklies and dailies. She was the first journalist to serve as director of The Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park, Oklahoma.

Her hobbies include reading, nature hikes, and traveling when she has the money. She seldom has the money. Married to a man who reads all her books but with two adult children who never read them. Byrd has cats, which makes her a legit author.

Madame Chalamet is back in her second book! I love the first book and this book is a wonderful follow up. The fact that Chalamet is a woman all her own in this era is what I love most.

Chalamet is ready for something, anything, it’s been too long since a horrible death has happened. She gets invited to the Winter Revels where it has everything to do with food. Naturally, there’s mystery afoot.

Although Chalamet is perfectly being happy with who she is and what she represents, she finds herself steeling glimpses and thinking about duke de Archambeau.

Nite Fire: Exit Strategy Audiobook by C.L. Schneider – Review by Shelly Kittell

5 out of 5 stars

Here we are at book 5, It’s the end! Dahlia is one of my favorite characters. She is part dragon but she is also strong, brave and resilient. The apocalypse has finally come and the poo has hit fan. She is trying to save the world. She has so many things going wrong all at once that would make most people collapse. Old enemies return while she is trying to find her missing team. This author has again written a terrific book. A fantastic finish to the series. There is lots of action from the beginning to pull you in and keep you going all the way to the end of story. The narrator does a fantastic job of pulling you in and getting you into the story. I was listening as I did chores and it made them much more exciting as I kept hearing bits about exploding dragon or monster bits all over. The action was detailed. The drama was plenty. A very powerful ending to one of my favorite fantasy series. I have loved this narrator and the author. A terrific combo that has made this a joy to listen to. I love the fact that the snark is in Dahlia. She gives as good as she gets. Her team does as well. I will miss Dahlia and her snark.

What Actually Happened to Isaac Moore is a fantastic fantasy novel that gives you everything you expect in a fantasy novel. You have pirates, magical creatures, far away lands, and battles. You meet a lot of characters a long the way and I will have to say that Nothe really stole the show for me on this one. It was wrapped up nicely but boy do I wish there were some novellas with additional adventures for each of the characters.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author and her writing style surprised me. I love a good fantasy story but this author exceeded all my expectations. She wrote so much detail into this story it felt like I was the one in the story. I was so addicted to this book it only took me a few hours to devour this epic story. I’m so excited to see what she will write about next.

Isaac loves being a sailor. He loves what he does but he also loves his daily meal. Isaac doesn’t believe in fairytales but when a cute little fairy comes to him he can’t say no. He finds himself in his very own story that he thought he would never have in his life. Isaac doesn’t even know what to expect but he is up for the challenge even for the most feared Snowman. Will Isaac get everything accomplished so he can go home or will he be in the adventure for a long time?

What Actually Happened to Isaac Moore starts out as a classic pirate story of a fairy tale treasure in another world. Then the story is taken in a completely different direction with the appearance of a fairy looking to get back to her world and needing Isaac’s help.

It is truly a refreshing engaging story with many twists and turns that I was not expecting. The amount of detail in this book is perfect to get the point across and brings about distinct images of the creature and or place. I could not put this book down because I needed to find out what happened to Isaac Moore!

What Actually Happened to Isaac Moore by Samantha J. Rose. This is my first read by this author but I loved it. Its a true adventure book like I used to read when I was younger. I was sucked in as soon as I started reading and didn’t want to put it down until I was finished. Its the story of Isaac Moore who has grown up really poor so the only way to have fun is to have a great imagination. In Isaac’s mind he is a sailor and has been his whole life. He sails the seas and devotes his life to his mission. Isaac also finds stories his mom and grandma have read to him becoming part of his “real” life. He ends up being sucked into a world where there are monsters that are called snowman and worms that are huge. This is such a fun adventurous read that will take you on many journey’s. Kids and adults a like will enjoy this tale!

Every once in a while you find a book so unexpected that it takes you on a fantastical journey. That is what I found in this delightful novel, What Actually Happened To Isaac Moore by Samantha J Rose. It reminded me of Alice in Wonderland meets The Old Man And The Sea! This book (for me) felt nostalgic in the best way! It’s the perfect blend of action, adventure, and fantasy that will remind you of your childhood and the fairy tales that existed there! What Actually Happened To Isaac Moore has beautiful character development that doesn’t feel forced and fun relatable characters. This is the first book I have read by Samantha J Rose, but it will not be my last! I look forward to reading The Very Real World Of Emily Adams and other works by this wonderful author! I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it to anyone searching for something that they can’t put their finger on!

Supernatural dive that has a very concrete story building that lateada the reader into so much more that meets the eye. Curses, lore, and a lost romance drives the main character to conquer amazing feats.

Overall a good read that intertwines so many twisting points and different characters. Very good read

This is the first book I’ve picked up by this author. I went in partially blind, only reading a little blurb about the story beforehand. It has been a very long time since I have found a story with the same kind of energy and magic as I found in books when I was a kid. I was hooked from the get-go. I love how real and relatable Isaac is. He literally falls into an epic tale of fantasy, but remains rooted in reality, all the while still learning from the experience and becoming fully immersed in the adventure. Even if this isn’t your typical cup of tea, I guarantee you will enjoy following Isaac on his magical journey! It took me back to my childhood as I hungrily flipped each page, wanting to consume more and more of the colorful world the author has created. It is well-written story and can stand on it’s own next to all the great adventures of my childhood reading.

It’s been awhile since I read a good, old-fashioned adventure novel so I was eager to read this and it definitely lived up to my expectations! The creativity and imagination that so clearly runs through the veins of the author made it a delight to read, also living up to the fantasy found in any C.S. Lewis novel! Isaac Moore is a delightful main character, making the journey he goes on even more enjoyable to experience. The author definitely puts in the work of showing his character development through the story, which always draws me in even more, as well as showing that he remains true to himself from beginning to end. I loved the writing style this author had and can’t wait to read more by her!

Peculiar and unusual
A curious tale that takes the reader on an unusual adventure filled with magic, paranormal, mystery, alternate worlds and a roller coaster of emotion. The story is offbeat but delivered well with Isaac finding himself in a fantastical world. I was engaged from start to finish and enjoyed the quirkiness of the story. An unexpected find, this is a great read. Recommend.

Dahlia has worked so hard to build a safe Sentinel City. That all changed in a blink of an eye. As the blight continues to devour everything in its path. Most of Dahlia’s team have gone missing and she must try to save them. I found Dahlia Nite to be strong and independent, with the desire to save those around her. The author of this story has once again kept me reading. This story had so many feels and the suspense was that of a rollercoaster, you never knew what was going to happen next. Which makes for an interesting and well written novel. It is a fantastic audiobook to listen to while traveling. This is the fifth book in this series. It answered so many questions as the book came to an end. It is important that you read the series in order. As I am so sure you will love it as much as I did.

Irish beauty
Set in beautiful Ireland this is the second book in the Guardians of the PHAE series. The story does not lack in detail, to the point that I found it cumbersome at times with a lot of information to process. The story itself is interesting and once I sorted through the layers I was engaged in the fantastical world. The mystery, action and adventure is woven through and kept me engaged.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was my first read by this author, and I was not disappointed one bit! If you love fantasy, conflict, different point of character views, this book is for you! I have to say I was intrigued from the moment I read the first page! Taming of the Few: An Irish Urban Fantasy Novel is book one in the Guardians of the PHAE series by Rowan Dillon. Rowan did a wonderful job of bringing Anna, a teacher who is trying figure out who she really is, Max a solider, who is trying to overcome his PTSD, and mixing the two different character’s worlds to life. She also did a fantastic job on explaining the difficulties that the people with magic powers face. This book reminded me of a cross between Lord of the Rings and the School of Good and Evil! All I have to say is once you start reading, make sure you have a comfy place to relax and all the snacks you could will need to stay put, because I’m telling you, once you pick this book up you won’t be putting it down till it’s finished, enjoy the ride!

Minotaur’s Lair (Servant of the Gods Book 3) by Luciana Cavallaro – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Minotaur's Lair (Servant of the Gods, #3)Minotaur’s Lair by Luciana Cavallaro
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Minotaur’s Lair is the third book in the Servant of the Gods series. It’s worth reading the series in order – you get enough of the backstory in this book to follow it but it would be more enjoyable to read as the culmination of the series.

As the title suggests, Minotaur’s Lair draws on Greek mythology to create a vivid fantasy world. There are plenty of familiar characters and tropes, but modern elements bring originality as well. The historical setting is detailed, with plenty of information about ancient lives including things like medicine, making it both an immersive and interesting read.

There are some great characters in this story! I particularly like Dexion, a boy whose insight and friendship help Evan in his quest. He’s a fun character with great energy, and I like a story where children notice things that adults miss.

This book gets five stars from me! I’d recommend it to fans of Greek Mythology and historical fantasy. Do start at the beginning, though, with Search for the Golden Serpent to get the full story.

I am here for any books that contain greek mythology. This is the final book (number 3 in the series). I didnt read the first two and didnt feel like i was unable to grasp what was going on! The way the writer tells the tale is honestly just mystical. It grabs your attention, and it had made me want to go back and read the other two. Its the way that the description is so perfectly balanced that you honestly feel as if you’re there that was the biggest winner for me. The story itself is great and well thought out. Author has an incredible mind and this book shows it!

This the second in the series Guardians of Phae books continues on from where the first left off, just following the explosions and further health issues befalling the Unhidden.
The characters continue to evolve, contact is made with the old gods, and I have to admit I had to re-read a few bits to keep up with which character was involved with which, once I got to grips with it all again I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Can the Unhidden survive let alone thrive, how does the rest fo the world evolve to accommodate these new slightly paranormal people.
The tension that starts in book one flows effortlessly through the second book, intrigue, mystery are abound. There is some self-doubt, some pain and the story is very complex, but thoroughly enjoyable.
These authors certainly know how to keep you hooked.
The authors have created a completely immersive and all-encompassing world, where after the poles have shifted slightly certain people develop talents, those people are classified the Unhidden. Mostly made up in people with a natural belief in the older ways and those who’s histories are based in magic.
It does bring to the forefront that which many of us understand, that of prejudice and how as a human race those seen as different are often targeted before understanding has taken place.
This book is the first in the series and I found the characters really well written and their relationships grown and change as the story develops. Some relationships start to bud as we find the areas the Unhidden have settled in around Ireland are attacked by the Pure Earther Movement and others.
There is a traitor in their mist, one who has familiar bonds to another Unhidden still finding her strengths. Their healer needs to fight constantly to do her best for those under the protection of PHAE and those in her family.
I am going straight onto book 2
We pick up the sequel after the massive bombings. Roisin is our main character who is a powerful healer. A strange reapiratory infection is spreading which has doctors stumped and even Roisin cant heal themfrom it.
If it isn’t enough that extremists want her and all the unhidden dead, old gods start to come out of the woodwork which history says they shouldn’t interact with but the power they can provide is hard to ignore and Roisin will find herself battling a God to save the world.
This was a great sequel, I feel this had less lag than the first and I enjoyed it more. The characters are realistic with flaws and mistakes and real personalities. Their responses to hardship and danger is realistic and sometimes endearing making the characters grow on you quickly. Well done!
