Caught in the Spin is the second book in the Caught series. It can be read as a standalone.
I can’t put my finger on why exactly, but I liked this book better than the first one. I was hooked into the story from the first chapter and the story moved at a good pace. The characters were engaging and the way the story develops really gets your emotions involved.
This story is a good mix of drama, family, and romance. There were several places in the story where I teared up a bit. Overall, it was really well done! Excellent way to relax after a long day.

Nothing But Trouble (Irresistible Billionaires #1) By Ashley Bostock Rated 4 stars
While this was a nice story idea I didn’t love it like I was expecting. This story had too much inner diatribe for me. Rehashing some things over and over. That’s a bit too much for me. I like conversations between people….not so much page after page describing thoughts, reasons and issues. Granted some are needed to get the feel of things. I enjoy forward movement to be a bit faster.
I really loved the few extra characters we met. Some made me smile, others made me angry and a few I hope for future stories. The pre dinner “entertainment” was excellent! I haven’t smiled while reading for a while! I even popped out a laugh or two!
Overall I enjoyed the idea of the story and sometimes couldn’t wait to get back to it. A couple times I cringed at Michael thinking he was going to do something I didn’t want him to do. I liked both of the MC’s and hope to see more of them in future stories.

Eight Steps to Alpha by Taylor Sullivan had all the promise of a cute little rom-com, but it fell flat as it relied on sexist themes. I really wanted to enjoy this book that is a slow born, friends to lovers. But the premise of making the nice guy into a misogynistic meany to get a girl, seemed rather backwards. I liked Elliot before the transformation and his relationship to Fe. I thought he was a great guy and don’t know why he had such a ‘woe is me’ mentality, because he couldn’t get one girl. A woman that was his superior at work, and wants to work professionally with her colleagues. I think Sullivan had the best intention when writing this novel, to put a spin on the classic Cinderella trope, and focus on changing a guy into the fantasy of women; but it missed the mark for me. An alpha male isn’t my fantasy. Elliot before the change being nerdy, athletic, kind, and squeaky clean is my kind of jam. Guys that are rude to women, get into fights for no reason, aren’t the type of men anyone needs in this day and age. Personally I would have preferred a more 10 things I hate about you approach, where Elliot was changed from an alpha, to a well-rounded gentleman that makes grand gestures of love whilst singing ‘I love you baby’ by Frankie Valli. Granted in saying all this, I still enjoyed the simple cute moments between Elliot and Fe. Just watching their friendship grow was adorable to read, and really had me savoring those moments, before they were swept away. I gave Eight Steps to Alpha 3/5 stars.

Crime Lord’s Captive (Crime Lord #1) by Mia Knight has me torn between loving it and hating it. It is a dark and twisted story that had me on edge the whole way through. It is a story about a crime lord who is dark and dangerous and obsessed with his girlfriend who has been missing for 3 years. This book is action packed and full of suspense and drama, hate and love, murder and abuse, pain and angst. Mia has embraced the dark side of the underworld that is violent and disturbing by nature and has shown us a world that we can only imagine. A world that is violent and uncompromising. A world that is kill or be killed.
Lyla loved him once, until she saw just what he was. What she saw, she could never unsee and it was enough for her to go into hiding. Lyla created a new life but she is constantly living in fear of being found and living a secret. Now her past has come calling and she has to face her worst nightmare, the man that terrifies her. Rainy Day Lovers (The Rocklyns Book 3) by Alicia Street is a wonderfully written contemporary romance. It is a quick and easy read that is both heartwarming and heartfelt. These adorable characters drew me into their wonderful journey, which is both believable and realistic. I enjoyed the story so much that before I knew it I was turning the last page.
Raina has always put the needs of others before herself. So much so that when she sees quiet unassuming and disfigured man being harassed, she puts herself in danger. Will she ever see him again?
Roman had been given a second chance, one that changed his life. He is not that same broken man he once was. He has never forgotten the kind stranger that helped him so many years ago. Can he share his secret with the woman that he loves?
I am excited to read the rest of the series but I need to go back and start at the beginning, as I started with this book first.

Shattered (The Torzial Affair Book 1) by Via Mari is a spinoff from the Prestian series which I enjoyed but this first book in the series is amazing. I suggest you start with the Prestian series before starting this series as the amazing characters and stories are intertwined. Via has excelled herself in this book. It was not what I expected, no, it was so much more. I loved every single minute of it and I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. I was captivated, enthralled and so engrossed that by the time I had finished, I needed more. This story is an emotional rollercoaster ride of feelings that don’t let up. There were tears and tantrums, and laughter and that was just me.
Jenny’s life has been turned upside down. She has been left battered and shattered to her very soul. To the core of her being, her essence. Never in her life would she have thought that someone she loved would put her through the hell that she went through. It has left her wondering just who she is now and if she will ever be the same again.
Brian is a hot, sexy, Alpha male and a one and done man. He never lets anyone close. He never knows who wants him for him or for what he has. But he wants her. Just one night. Salvation: An Ash Park Prequel Novella by Meghan O’Flynn is where it all started; Where we find out just what makes Petrosky who he is in the following books in the series that are both enthralling and compelling. The Ash Park series is dark in nature as it follows the life of cops and detectives as they race against time to bring killers in and justice for the victims. Meghan is very good at these types of stories and they wouldn’t be the stories they are without the twist and turns she throws your way that you certainly don’t see coming until you are right on top of them. It shows humanity at its worst. It shows Petrosky’s journey through love and hate, pain and doubts, but nothing is better than finding the truth and vengeance for the one you loved and lost far too soon. It was great to see why he became who he did.

This is the beginning of all the madness. We find out how Petrosky ticks. You will finally understand him a little better. The romance in this story was interesting. It wasn’t a slow burn or something quick. It was simple and uncomplicated. The author did an amazing job building you up to let you down. The story was easy to follow and a quick read. Heather made me wonder about her the whole time. The details were too few and plain. There were no witnesses and no family to push for justice. Overall this is a great start. The mystery surrounding everyone keeps you hooked into the story. You want to find out what happened and why. That’s the authors secret weapon. Reviewed by @gguerrero89

I was so excited to get into the second book of this series. I enjoyed A Suitable Affair so much and was so intrigued by Clara and Andrew. I absolutely tore through this book. There were a couple twists I picked up on a smidge before it was made clear but Erica Taylor got me again with that twist! One of my favorite parts of this book was the snippets of the gossip rag that all the society people would have been reading and I think it added an extra layer to the story. You could really see how a small insignificant action would be blow out of proportion and how horribly wicked whoever ran that column was. Cut throat doesn’t even come close to the actions of some of these ladies trying to catch Andrew’s eye when he so clearly loved Clara. Since the events of this book take place before the events of the first book, I already knew what was going to happen but I think I enjoyed it more so because of that. Little hints were dropped about Clara’s crazy past and I was excited to figure out the rest. Can’t wait for book three and I really hope there is a book about Norah. I NEED to know about why she is still friends with Lady Laura when she is the epitome of toxic. Norah has been cryptic about why she is still friends with her and I want to know the reason!

Rules of Engagement: A Single Dad Romance (Platonically Complicated Book 3) By Mika Jolie. What’s not to love about a devoted single dad? Nothing in my point of view, I love a story about fate stepping in a bringing two deserving people together in amazing ways. And these two main characters definitely deserve some pushes. This book had me completely drawn in from page one with its well written storyline and characters that I connected with. It’s well paced and the author does a wonderful job of telling a story that kept me hooked until the very end. Sometimes in life rules are meant to be broken, right? I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it. Can’t wait to read more from this author.

This was a first read for me by this author and I really enjoyed her writing style. We follow 2 teens who go through a horrific time and then we go to the future and where they are now. While kind of predictable, I still enjoyed this story for what it was and how the characters were developed and where they went with their lives. I look forward to more in this series!

Rules of Engagement: A Single Dad Romance (Platonically Complicated Book 3) By Mika Jolie Rated 5 stars
I was so excited to see this! I loved the first two in the series and couldn’t wait to see if Cam or Luc got a story! My prayers have been answered and this is Lucas’ (Luc). It is a best friend to lovers and add the component of a single dad in there. Kids always make things different and this is no exception. This one is told from Lucas’ POV. He isn’t as harsh as Dean was in his book. I’m guessing it’s because the Dad in him mellowed everything out a bit. There are many great moments and it was nice seeing Cori, Dean and Cam again. Cam was such a little instigator. He is fun and full of wit. I enjoyed what he called Lucas’ ex-wife!! So funny! What a great friend! A couple of my favorite lines from the story:
“Men might wear the pants but the women control the zipper”
“We are all imperfectly perfect and beauty begins within”
When I started Chapter 38 I couldn’t help the smile that came over my face. Now don’t skip ahead but just know what is waiting for you when you get there.
I enjoy reading Mika Jolie’s stories. She is a one-click author for me. With that being said I didn’t love this as much as Dean/Cori’s, at least until the ending. That ending was wonderful! At times I could see the connection these two have. Looking back…overall it’s a great addition to the series and I eagerly look for the next book. Or really any book by this author :-).

Movie Star by Pamela DuMond is a great addition to her series 21st Century Courtesan. To be honest I was thinking that this series was going to be a new romance series, which is not my most favorite genre, I was really wrong. Ms. DuMond has written a new romance series, but there are so many angles that it has a bracket all of it own in my genre lists. The characters are amazing and the story line is fully develop and keeps bringing me back to the story when I think I have figured out some of the mysteries going on with the story. This book is the continuation of Evie but has added Jake the movie star in for some flair. It appears as if Jake has been taken back and Evie is not sure why he feels that way. She decides to help Jake and that is when everything comes forward. Will Evie help Jake and will Jake help Evie back?

Rainy Day Lovers was a great book from start to finish. The characters were great and the plot was great. It all started in 2001 when Raina was witness to a homeless guy around her age was getting attacked. He wasn’t only homeless but he was in some sort of horrific accident by the look of his face. Raina saved the young man and took him to get something to eat. Then gave him money and some good advise. She told Robbie to go speak with a friend of hers and she knew if given the chance she knew he would make the best of it. All because of Raina, Robbie stepped in to help a man being robbed in a park one night and his life changed.
Fifteen years later Raina and Robbie ( who now goes by Roman ) somehow meet again. Roman has a new face and is a plastic surgeon. All things happen for a reason. Fate stepped in and did the right thing in this book about second chance meetings / romances. Roman keeps his past hidden to Raina and doesn’t tell her that he was the homeless guy she helped all those years ago. What will happen when the truth comes out. This book was such a sweet read. I love Roman. He’s just an all around great guy and I believe he was given that second chance at a happy life because of his run in with Raina.

Vortex by Kimberly Packard is a book unlike any I had read before. The plot was different from most of the books I have read recently and that captures my attention and kept me hooked. Part of what had me so fascinated with this book is that I just couldn’t imagine anything that would prompt me to do what Elaine does. And yet at the same time I felt like I was right there with her making those decisions, chasing all those storms. This book takes you on such an emotional journey. It’s been a while since I had to “sit” for a while once finishing a book but this one I certainly had to. An absolutely brilliant read I couldn’t recommend this more.
Infamy (Feisty Lawyers #2) By Seelie Kay Rated 3 stars
If you like reading stories that are full of alphabets this one is for you. What does she mean? Well FBI, CIA, MISix for a few. That leads to multiple characters working or knowing someone who works in one or more of these. This one is a story that involves all the characters we met in the last book as well as a few new ones. There is a lot of activity and some downtime for the couples. This doesn’t really follow one couple. It follows more of a group. This is a little difficult at times. Too many people and too many secret/not secret titles. It can be confusing to read trying to follow each character, what group they are associated with, what qualifications they have and why/how they are attached to the rest. I liked the beginning but once they got to the house I was overwhelmed with characters and credentials. I made a list to try to keep track. There is some humor and briefly crazy sexy times. The connection between some of the characters was good. Hope seems to be a handful and I’m pretty sure she will get her way on her future. Anyway this is an ok read for me. I had too many struggles to be interested to read more stories.

The characters are complex and relatable each having a story to tell readers. I was completely hooked from page one and couldn’t stop until the end. The author takes readers on a bit of an emotional ride but it’s worth it. I’ve read others by this author and this one is one I love just as much. I can’t wait to read more. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it.

I give The Monster’s Lover (The Fenris Series Book 1) by Samantha MacLeod, 4 stars.
Sol’s family cannot afford to pay the king this season. So they do what they can to survive — the king is willing to take Sol into his harem and their debts will be erased. Sol does not have a choice in the matter, it’s the only way her family can survive. Her mother keeps saying that at least she will be well fed and warm all winter, but Sol knows better. The king is a cruel, evil man. With what little time she has left, she escapes to the woods she loves so dear. There she meets a man who says his name is the same as the infamous monster who haunts these woods. She doesn’t believe him, but it doesn’t matter. He makes her feel wonderful, in every way. She knows this is short lived, soon she will have to give up this wonderful dream. But she wants it to never end.
This was a wonderful paranormal romance book. It is hot and heavy at times, but there is so much more. There is the impending doom Sol is facing. Plus there is her family, struggling to survive after tragedy. Yes, para romance has been done many times, and mythology has been often used for creating characters. But this author uses Norse mythology, which is one of the lesser used ones. I find this very refreshing. Plus it shows so much about Sol. I would love to learn more about Fenris in future books.
If you like your paranormal romance with hot and heavy scenes, but with a creature you are not too familiar with, this book is for you.

Luke by Madison Quinn is the first book in the Dark Water Security series and it’s also my first book by this author, but it certainly won’t be my last. From the very first chapter I was hooked, I was completely captivated by the storyline that I quickly forgot about the real world and ended up reading this book in one sitting. This story is intense, detailed, emotional and action-packed, there was always something going on that kept me on my toes.
I loved how this storyline flowed from the past to the present, it made it easy to connect with these characters and made it for an entertaining read! I can’t wait to dive into my next book by this author and would absolutely recommend it to others!

How do you live with so much pain inside you? To know betrayal and anger at a young age. To want murder and blood on your conscious and hands. Han was made to be hard and unforgiving. Trained to kill and move with silence. Then came the cracks the people who went through her walls. Life may make you hard but it’s the people around you that determine if you stay that way. I really like this story it shows many sides to people and how they affect your life. The author did really well with the story line and characters. Jack is perfect for Han. They’re each other’s weakness but also strength. Jack gave Han faith and trust. He gave her back some innocence. Reviewed by @gguerrero89

Wow I really had to step away for a moment after finishing this book. My emotions were all over the place. In fact while reading I ran through some crazy feelings. This is an amazing book that has many front facing features. I assumed it was about storm chasers (which it is) but there are other sides that come forward that had me whirling around trying to figure them out. I loved the idea of this book. It’s about the ultimate thrill that is crazy and scary as heck. Not everyone can or should do it.
What did I love about this? Besides everything?? Here are some specifics. The way the author referred to clouds and tornadoes as a child in the womb and then being born. Taking its first wobbly step as it gains confidence. Crazy how that is so true! The t-shirts that the MC wears. Such attention to detail…I loved it. The relationships that were built, the MC was smart and knowledgeable with a side of sassy, and her dog!!! For Pete’s sake I almost forgot Nimbus! He is a wonderful side character!
I literally could not put this book down. It opens with a bang and keeps going all the way through. This is not my first Kimberly Packard book and it won’t be the last. She know how to weave a story and write strong yet comfortable characters. If you want a thrill ride with attachment to the characters? Pick this one up!
Shattered by Via Mari is the first book in the Torial Affair series which also a spin off of the Prestian Series. I highly recommend you read that series first though this can be read as a stand alone.
There is some overlap from the end of the first series time wise but it’s a very different story since we are following Jenny and Brian which I really enjoyed. I liked the different prospective and finding out more details on the trauma Jenny endured and how Brian was involved with protecting her and more.
Jenny moved up my list of amazingly strong female characters quite a bit as I was reading all she has done and experienced at a very young age. After feeling like I knew her as Katerina’s best friend I got to know her as an individual and I’m so glad I did.
We start to see Brian’s carefully placed walls start to crumble the more he learns about Jenny. We also find out what makes him tick, his pain and happiness from childhood and how dominant he really is.
I throughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to get to the next one and see what happens.

It has been a while since I read a Mika Jolie novel and I forgot how much I enjoyed them. This was a page turner from the start. It centres around the intriguing story of Lucas (the aforementioned single dad) and his best friend Kate. Both burned by previous relationships, they deny their mutual attraction and stay just friends. When Lucas’ ex-wife tries to gain custody of their daughter, Kate offers her help in an unexpected way. Being a fake fiancé is one thing but what happens when the attraction threatens to take over..? The attraction between the two main characters leapt off the page. Before they were even together, their innermost thoughts were displayed for the reader and we knew they should be a couple, even if they didn’t! This was a thrilling modern romance set in New York which I loved. The characters were well drawn and believable, the love scenes intimate but not over the top. I was racing through it but didn’t want it to be over. 4.5

A Suitable Affair is book one in the Macalisters series by Erica Taylor. Another new author I get to discover. I am always eager to read new and exciting stories. Words are my passion. Reading makes my soul happy. I cherish the feeling of excitement I get when reading a good story. You can tell that a little something special is added by an author that exists just to provide stories to the world. It seems there is no limit to these creative marvels.
Lady Susan wants to be married. Ian cannot escape the darkness. An unlikely coupling, can they beat the odds? This story was hauntingly beautiful and written with precision and perfect detail. The characters were multi faceted, with varying idiosyncrasies and vast differences, all coming together to compliment, contribute and satisfy. There were unexpected twists to this story, so readers really do get more than they could imagine. A tale that never disappointed, and always delivered exceptionally. 5 stars.

This was a very interesting book. I do not think i have ever read anything like it. It was a Suspenseful dark comedy that had all kinds of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I have to admit that it did take a little while to get into the story but as soon as it picked up i couldn’t put it down. The characters were funny and man do i want one of those GIANT Cinderella coffee cups that Ann liked to drink out of. She “dreams” of a new life without her husband and has to decide if she should come clean to him about the “dream” she had of him dying. She has to decide if she wants the life that she is living or if she should pack it up and go live her life somewhere else. This was a fun interesting read and i would recommend it a friend.
