Before the Second Show by Thia Finn – Review by Karyn Taylor

Before the Second ShowBefore the Second Show by Thia Finn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Before The Second Chance is a fantastic rock star/second chance romance novel by Thia Finn. I had never read any of this author’s work but I do love rock star romances and also second chance romances, so I just had to give this book a try. I’m so glad that I did as I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
16 year old Emmy falls in love with guitarist Alex Trace when she sneaks out to go see a show and meets him afterwards. When they share a kiss she’s totally besotted. Fast forward 5 years and when she meets him again after a show she’s totally gutted when he doesn’t remember her.
By chance she meets him again a year later when her current boyfriend Marcus, who works with the band, gets Alex and his brother Adam to use Emmy as their realtor. Although Alex doesn’t remember their first meeting he’s intrigued by the beautiful Emmy and she can’t get him out of her head. When Alex becomes ill, they are become much closer.
I really loved this story. It is very emotional and it’s fantastic storyline and characters will keep you gripped throughout. Alex is a very troubled young man who thinks he doesn’t deserve true happiness due to his actions in the past. Can Emmy be the one to change him and be his HEA? I suggest you read this book and find out. It’s a fantastic read!

Covert Threat ( Gray Ghost #5) By Amy McKinley
4 Stars!!!!

I was once again drawn into the adventurous world of Amy McKinley and I again was not disappointed. I liked the drama and intrigue that flows throughout the book. The characters just jump to life off of the pages and draw the reader in and keep you hooked till the last page. It was an exciting read that kept the flow of the series alive and me on the edge of my seat.

Trev and Jules are so explosive in their chemistry and the drama and intrigue that surrounds them. I was so impressed of the flow of this series. The characters enhance one another and the story line is invigorating and addictive. I felt as though I was in the midst of the action and was eager to see how things would turn out. This is a great read and I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future and hope for more of this series.

Mountains Wanted (Mountains Series #1) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Erica Fish

Mountains Wanted (Mountains Series Book 1)Mountains Wanted by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Mountains Series by Phoebe Alexander is another series not to pass up. In the synopsis it states to read the first three books in order because it is all about Sarah and James’s story. There are a total of eight books. Phoebe Alexander does not disappoint as her stories are always a great read. She has characters that pop off the page and the situations they find themselves in can be interesting. Like in this story, Sarah and James are not looking for a relationship only to be friends with benefits. Does that ever work out that way? Can there be a friendship with benefits and not get to wanting more? Is there any hope for Sarah and James to remain friends with benefits? Is one of them want more? I cannot wait to read book 2 for the continuation of their story.

Mountains Wanted (Mountains Series Book 1)Mountains Wanted by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mountains Wanted by Phoebe Alexander a five-star read that you will want to read. This is the first story in the Mountains series, and the first part of James and Sarah’s story. This is a great story and I cant wait to sink my teeth into the next part of James and Sarah’s story as they are both such good characters that you can understand where they are coming from and why they feel the ways they do. Sarah is a great character and one that this author has a way of writing in such a manner that you can’t help but feel compassion and passion for her, understand what makes her tick. If you are looking for something fun and passionate then you need this story.

Covert Threat (A Gray Ghost Novel, book 5) by Amy McKinley – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Covert Threat (Gray Ghost #5)Covert Threat by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Covert Threat is the fifth book in Amy McKinley’s exciting Gray Ghost series. Like the others, it can be read as a standalone but features characters and references events from the previous books.
The Gray Ghost team specialise in difficult missions. They can keep people safe or get them out of tricky situations. The core of the team is former military, and they put their training to good use in dangerous situations. The books are packed with action and tension.
Jules, the protagonist of Covert Threat, realises that she is in trouble when she starts noticing small things out of place. A drawer she doesn’t remember opening. A change to the screensaver on her computer. As things build up, and Jules realises she’s not just imagining it, Trev steps in to protect her and help get to the bottom of things.
I particularly like Jules as a character. Her interest in food and cooking means that McKinley applied her generous attention to detail to descriptions of delicious, nostalgic food (I’m hungry just reading it!). Also, her work as an epidemiologist is really cool and I learnt a lot from reading about it.
For me, this is a five star book. I’d recommend the series to fans of action who like a book with a complex story and characters that you get to know over time. Although you can jump in here, reading the stories in order gives you a chance to meet the characters properly and see their stories unfold (and you’re going to want to read them all eventually!).

I loved this book. This is a short story that is packed full of romance and steam. This author has fast become one of my go to authors. This is a well written story that I read in one sitting. It is a fast moving story that has characters that bring the story to life. Cade is saved by an angel who he never thought he would see again until he did. Nadia has a past colides with the present and threatens their relationship. Find out if Nadia will take a chance on love and if fate will allow them a HEA. I highly recommend this must read story.

THE RUNAROUND: A Single Dad Romantic Comedy (CAROLINA CONNECTIONS BOOK 6) By SYLVIE STEWART 4 stars,
So ok I’ve read plenty of other books by Sylvie, but this was by far my favourite read.
The story of Jax being a single dad but always causing the heartbreak in the world of women is great, his character is so head strong he doesn’t realise he has such a good thing until its gone. His battle to get back what he lost is hard and his daughter doesn’t make it easy on him and somehow he becomes open to what could be.
Told from the POV of Jax and Ari, this is a tale of love and hurt and understanding one another and the perspective of why things aren’t plain black and white.
Definitely worth the read

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Covert Threat (A Gray Ghost Novel Book 5) by Amy McKinley
4 of 5 Stars
Covert Threat is book 5 in Amy McKinley’s ‘Gray Ghost’ novels featuring members of the Gray Ghost Team. Workaholic Infectious Disease specialist Jules Moretti works at an elite research facility and following a security breach which puts Jules at risk, former Navy SEAL Trev Shaw is assigned to keep her safe. As Jules continues to work on top secret research projects she starts to have strange ‘mishaps’ and as her safety is put more and more at risk Trev must keep her safe. After a boating incident the two discover that there is more to one another than they initially thought and sparks begin to fly. What began as a simple assignment for Trev turns more dangerous as he falls in love with Jules and wants to discover who the culprit is and whether the danger is personal, or merely a smokescreen for biowarfare.
This is an action packed thriller, mystery and romance. The storyline is fast paced which kept me hooked from page one. I loved the main characters and how Jules and Trev’s relationship developed. The novel can be read as a standalone book, however characters from the previous books are mentioned, and having read and enjoyed this book I am now keen to read the rest of the series.

So after reading Covert Threat and the little snippet at the end about finding out what Hannah was up to I had to grab this book. This is kind of a part of The Gray Ghost series with a few of the characters crossing over, this was a super quick read that was full of all kinds of content, leaving out all the extra info that is normally a part of longer stories, yet still contained everything you expect when reading anything by this author. It jumped right in (lol you’ll understand why that was kinda funny when you read it) and had me on the edge of my seat right from the get go. Completely curious where this newer series will go, not sure if it will still be part of The Gray Ghost or what this author has in mind but I’m completely ready to find out because I love this all taking place in The Cook Islands, I could almost visualize everything that was mentioned in this story.

Loved it!

REWIND Boxed set (Rewind Series Books 1-4) By Rowan Shaw – Review by Lisa Helmick

Rewind Boxed SetRewind Boxed Set by Rowan Shaw
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a wonderful collection. All of these books have the same group of friends involved. So you are really get to know them. All four books are good but I do have a couple that just slayed me and have become favorites. The love and betrayal that this group encounters just shocked me. Some of these things I can’t even imagine but I’m sure they can easily happen in the real world. The friendship that encompasses this group is second to none.

As stated briefly above these stories bring out all kinds of emotions. I enjoyed reading these and getting to know the boys. All of the stories move along at a good pace and make you really *feel* for the characters.

One encounter with her surveillance target was all it took to change the course of Nadia Bennett’s life. It was a once in a lifetime kind of connection and worth the risk—even if the price of saving him was to leave him behind and start anew.

When an underwater angel saves Cade Malone from a car accident, he fears he won’t find her again. Years pass, but he’s still unable to erase her from his thoughts, so he vows that the next time they meet, he won’t let her slip away.

Under the moonlit sky, their paths cross, and the lines of demarcation blur as Nadia takes a chance at love even though a dark secret from her past could destroy their relationship.

Moonlit Mirage is a novella that can be read as a standalone, complete with an HEA.

Four Stars

I’m not really into these books but the author definitely knows how to put a twist on it. I felt compelled to understand Sarah’s life. I felt a need to know her pain. To know her story. The author wrote a book about a woman who knew who she was and wasn’t afraid to show it. But she also wrote about how vulnerable that life can truly be. There wasn’t a moment that I did want to be apart of. Usually I don’t make it through the multiple partner scenes but there was a learning experience with this story. James is young and not sure of his life. Sarah is a mother, a professional and sexually free. The whole story was well written. I definitely think you should read this if step6on the wild side doesn’t scary you. Or finally wanting to live your truth.

Taming Zane (Almost Perfect Series Book 2) by Lisa Lanay – Review by Robin Rankin

Taming Zane (Almost Perfect Series Book 2)Taming Zane by Lisa Lanay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Taming Zane by Lisa Lanay is the second book in the Almost Perfect Series.

The moment I saw that Shannon was a Chicgo native I wondered if she was a Cubs fan (Go Cubs Go!) or a Sox fan. That question was answered when I least expected it.

We see Zane in different aspects of his life. A fun loving incle who loves his nieces and nephews, a single man enjoying life and as a romantic which I wasn’t expecting at all, but I totally swooned when I read that chapter.

This second book in the series had none of the let down you might see from a newer author. Looking forward to keeping up with her and see how her writing evolves as she gains experience.

Scoring Chance: A Mile High Miners Novella by Lane Martin – Review by Kayla Interdonato

Scoring Chance : A Mile High Miners NovellaScoring Chance : A Mile High Miners Novella by Lane Martin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Scoring Chance: A Mile High Miners Novella by Lane Martin is an adorable short love story. Rhett Crawford, or Ford as his teammates call him, is a third string goalie on the Miners. Eden Snow becomes “employed” by the Miners team captain. A run in at the captain’s house leaves Rhett in awe of Eden, but the captain has warned Rhett that she is forbidden fruit. Eden has a damaged past that keeps her guarded and not capable of love, or so she thought.

This novella was a quick afternoon read. I loved the way that the author was able to portray the strong bond between the team mates and their significant others. It seemed like a tight knit family that only wanted the best for each other. The way that Rhett protected and wanted Eden was adorable, and I couldn’t help but root for them through the whole story. I really enjoyed Lane Martin’s work and look forward to future work.

Call of the Alpha (The Powder River Pack #2)Call of the Alpha by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have a read a few books by this author, and this is the second of this series. Can be read as a standalone, but you’ll want to read the first one anyways!
Mason and Rylie, you could actually feel the chemistry coming out of the words in this story. These two had an immediate attraction and unlike other “Insta-love/like” stories, this was so real and believable.
And of course my favorite was Archer. I cant say enough about this book, but i feel if I even started I’d never stop and where would the fun be in ruining the book for you.
I have to say how much more this story was compared to the first, in no way does that mean the first has anything wrong with it but you can just tell this story spoke to the author in a different way and she pulls you into it so seamlessly.
Cannot wait for the next book, and who we get to read about next.

The Flame and The Blade (Flame and Blade #1)The Flame and The Blade by Meredith Hart

The Flame and The Blade by Meredith Hart is the first book in what appears to be a fantastic new series. It is exciting and unique, well written and designed to pull you in from the start.
This book definitely has more to tell but I loved getting to know these characters. They were entertaining in more ways than one. I liked the fact the author didn’t just rely on the action and the fantasy for the book, it had so much more about it.
The story was well developed too. The pace was perfect, just building up and building up. You don’t realise just how much you are involved in the book until suddenly it is over and you are wanting to read the next book. I can’t wait to see what else is to come from this series!

I really enjoyed reading In Other Words by Pamela Q. Fernandes! I especially loved the love of piano playing in the novel, it seems like there are so few novels with instruments like that written as a main aspect anymore. Loved the writing, Fernandes did an incredible making the words flow freely with tons of emotions throughout the pages. I was immediately captured by them. I loved the romance, and how well described Trish’s heartache was written. Not many authors can accomplish that it seems like. I loved the storyline, and I can’t wait to read the other books in the Boothbay Harbor series!

Covert Threat (Gray Ghost #5)Covert Threat by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This author is new to me but this story was amazing. This is the 5th in the series but the first one I read. It wasnt confusing though; very easy to read.
Jules is a genius scientist looking for a cure tobacco rare disease that has killed others. When odd things start happening to Jules, her boss brings in Trev to be her bodyguard, just to be on the safe side. Only things escalate…dangerously.
A strange left on a mirror, mysteriously moved items, and a note from Jules mother that ties the whole book together. This book is fantastically written and brilliantly executed! I’d give it 10 stars if I could!

Rebound (Rewind #4)Rebound by Rowan Shaw
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great read about breakups. Nosh thought he had it all. But when he finds his boyfriend Hugo cheating on him with an actor, his whole world is turned upside down. He turns to his friend Adrien and stays at his house for a while. Can he get over Hugo and move on?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Noah standing up for himself but emotive underneath or Hugo as cold and manipulative. Great cast of supporting characters like the fun friend Nour or the supportive Adrien or the quieter Raphael.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with Paris with its streets full of life and people and colour despite Noahs mood contrasting perfectly. Or the scenes at dinner with the candles and food as intimate and homely. Or Rapheals house with its sense of culture with bright paintings and lots of books with smells and sounds so vivid its as if you’re actually there.
The switch of perspectives worked well to display all the sides of the story and was easy to follow with names in the chapter titles. I also liked the use of French culture throughout the novel with its foods and language giving the book a sense of character. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

Jake Wolfe Series Bundle Box Set (Jake Wolfe #1-3)Jake Wolfe Series Bundle Box Set by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Jake Wolfe Series Bundle Box Set: (Books 1-2-3) Vigilante Justice Thriller Series by Mark Nolan, 5 stars.

I previously read a later book in the series a while ago, and I did not remember just how good these books are. I was yet again blown away! Each and every book in this set is excellent and I literally could not put the books down. I had to stop myself between each book, just so I remember to do things like eat and sleep. Jake and Cody are such wonderful characters. Yes, Cody makes this series as excellent as it is. But Jake is also great. He is a real person, scarred and damaged from war, but he must help people in need. I love how Cody has a point of view, as well as the people in these books.

There is so much in each of these besides the unique story each book holds, you will go on a rollercoaster of emotions and you better keep some tissues handy. The progression as each book goes on is done well too. Each repeating character grows from book to book. Overall I find this a fantastic collection and recommend it to those who like a strong male character and his dog in wonderful thriller books.

Covert Threat (A Grey Ghost Novel Book 5) by Amy McKinley – Review by Sarah Oakes

Covert Threat (Gray Ghost #5)Covert Threat by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great read about science and danger. Jules is a research scientist working on some military type drug with her company. But when strange things start to happen and a boat race goes wrong, she realises science is more dangerous than she expected. To protect her, she enlits the help of bodyguard Trev Shaw. Together, they try to work out what is going on as events unravel. Can they find out who is behind it all before it’s too late?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Jules standing up for herself but with her fears underneath or Trev as assertive but kind underneath
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the storm at the beginning with its sights and sounds so vivid its as if you’re actually there.
I also liked the use of suspense with small details revealed slowly to make you keep reading to find out what happened and whos begin it all. The first person narrative worked well to display Jules thoughts and feelings throughout the novel. The only issue I would raise is that sometimes the scientific terms used were hard to understand what they meant and may cause confusion for some readers. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.

The Runaround by Sylvie Stewart was an amazing read. It was sweet, romantic, and funny. I loved Ari and Jax both as well as many of the other characters. They were definitely. Y favorite though. I loved the opening scene of the novel where Ari is sassy. I felt like it really pulled me in and had me wanting to know more about her character. Oh, and Jax pulled me in with his southern charm and the interesting tid bit about his daughter at the start.
This was seriously an addictive read. The storyline had an excellent easy flow. There was great plot development and climax in this book. It was organized and well thought out. I also felt that the cover art was attractive and eye catching. I highly recommend this book!
