Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood – Review by Angela Shirley

ShatteredShattered by Lisa Wood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When you can have everything in the world due to privilege, but there is one thing you can’t buy Love.

Gabe Rhodes has lived his life in the high world, being a partner at the family firm. Not looking for relationships or marriage his has the reputation as a playboy, but all that will change with one interview.

Olivia is running away from her past. When she then gets to New York and interviews for a job with Gabe will she be able to resist the handsome man and will he discover her past which she is trying so hard to forget.

This story is full of lust, romance and excitement. I was frantically reading through this book to see what happens after ever turn of the page, the main characters are well developed and are a perfect combination to each and bounce off each other brilliantly. Gabe being the playboy and oldest in the family you expect him to be an idiot but his devotion to Livvie in the end is heartwarming. I can’t wait to read the next book in this installment and with five siblings you can imagine their is going to more in this wonderful series.

This is the first book I have read by this author and this book is a great introduction to this wonderful author and series. Bring on the next book / books.

This experience gives her more time in her hometown while being able to learn the ropes for her own career. She never expected to meet Dylan though. After some of Karina Cardinal’s recent adventures—her lover Mike Finnegan would call them scrapes, jams, or pickles—she’s more than ready to blow this D.C. pop stand for a short girls’ trip to Mexico. Until Jillian’s roller skate wreck blows their plan out of the water.

With Jilly injured and Mike working, her fellow lobbyist Rodrigo volunteers to share some sun, sand, and margaritas in Cancun. It’s tough to relax, though, knowing what’s in her suitcase. A package she promised to hand off to Mrs. Thundermuffin in Mexico.

Mrs. T’s evasive maneuvers around Karina’s questions wave more red flags than a bullfighter, leaving Karina no choice but to take a peek. Okay, so it’s not a kilo of something illegal. It’s an Egyptian death mask that turns out to be a magnet for crooks, conmen, kidnappers, and outright killers.

When the situation explodes into chaos, Karina and Rodrigo are lucky to have friends in the right place—at their backs. But they’re in one hell of a jam. And they could be going home in something tackier than a souvenir t-shirt—more like a body bag.

As someone who has always had a secret desire to self-publish, I found this book to be extremely interesting and insightful. Ackley-McPhail does a nice job explaining things in an informative way without being overly droll and boring. If you are looking to self-publish one day, I believe you’ll find the information provided to be useful and helpful. Devil's Claw: Logan Book 3 (The Logan McKenna Series)Devil’s Claw: Logan Book 3 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I would have to say that this is one of my favorites from Valerie Davisson. Her writing style is what holds my attention from the first page until the last. You need to pay attention to your surroundings because you may be missing so clues to assist you in the mystery. The story is about the property that is in high demand. Logan has a new murder to investigate. The characters are what keeps this thriller alive. It was quite dark when I finish and the little hairs on the back of my neck were standing on edge. I wanted Logan to help me get through the aftermath of the murder. Logan is a great character who has grown with every murder. I highly recommend this book for you to grow with Logan as well.

This the second book in the Chase Security Series and I have to say that it is better than the first. I recommend reading the first book to enjoy this installment. The story’s plotline has amazing details to describe what was going on. I felt as if I was right there with Chase Security. The characters are complex and complicated. The agency has former Navy Seal Martin, as the CEO of Chase Security and he is transiting into the role nicely. Martin’s brother, Austin was shot and his high school sweetheart Elizabeth was the surgeon for his brother. Will Martin and Elizabeth restart their high school fling? Will figure out what is going on in their town? I highly recommend this story to find out the answers to these and many more questions.

I am a complete sucker for these opposite attract love stories which are enemies-to-lovers stories. The love story in the middle of the small success story as she navigates through the music industry. I love where the story leads between the two, Cami and Dylan, and what makes their story enduring. I love how the author finds a balance of a dance in a beautiful love song for these two.

Devil’s Claw: A Logan McKenna Mystery #3 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson

Davisson has really done it again. This book is phenomenal and I really hope there’s more to the series. This is the third book in the Logan McKenna Mystery Series.

Logan is happy to have her daughter home although not how she wanted. When she gets the call from her daughter that she found otters Logan rushes to help her. Ben is still in her life and she couldn’t be happier.

Amy goes to the Otter Sanctuary only to find that something had happened. Logan gets worried when she doesn’t hear from Amy so she rushes to be by her daughter’s side. The quote I chose for Logan is: “You and Mike are great parents. You’ve given Haley a solid foundation. You’re doing all the right things. You’re giving her the chance to grow up. It’s going to be up to Haley. If it’s any consolation, I think she’s a great kid.”

Highly recommended for lovers of crime and drama.

This was my first book by AJ Eversley. It was the type of book I get so excited about that I can’t put it down. Sienna has spent her entire life inside the DEZ, a glorified orphanage for unwanted Marked kids. Fighting in the Underground isn’t about the thrill or the glory, though Sienna has achieved both, it’s about the money and a way out. Jayla is a Watcher. She’s been tasked with keeping her city safe from an enemy the citizens don’t even know exists. I can’t wait to see what she writes next, I love her writing style and how deep she writes these characters.

Secure Again (Chase Security Series Book 2)Secure Again by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Secure Again was definitely a 5 star read for me. This book had everything one could possibly want in a book. Dr Elizabeth Reed and Martin Bailey are both such strong characters and I love them both. They both have amazing jobs and are both so good at what they do.
Elizabeth Reed works in a hospital and is the best at what she does. I love some of her antics such as hip checking the bed to make the heart jump to show there is a heartbeat.
When Elizabeth decided what she wanted to do in life she went all in. She will not save a cop over a prisoner. Everyone gets equal treatment in her care. When she starts noticing things that are not how they should be she asks questions. Such questions could be dangerous for her. Martin and Elizabeth have a history and when they come face to face some feelings come barreling back!
There is so much going on in this book and I’m glad Martin went to Iowa when he did. Someone is out to get Elizabeth, will he be able to save her and her career? There were lots of characters….so many were evil some were good, it was hard to keep them straight but I did. This was a great read and I strongly recommend it to everyone.

Rose by Any Other Name (The Sisters, Texas Series, Book 10) by Becki Willis – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Rose by Any Other Name (The Sisters, Texas #10)Rose by Any Other Name by Becki Willis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was gripped from page one by this novel which has drama, crime, suspense, romance and mystery as well as great characters. Based in a small town, ‘The Sisters’, during a long hot Texas summer a mysterious new comer arrives in the community and instantly the gossip starts. No one knows who Rose Belvedere is or why she has chosen The Sisters as a place to live but the locals are sure that a body was put into her moving van. Chief Brash deCordova’s police department is over run with calls all saying the same thing but without probable cause all he can do is make inquiries. However when Madison, from ‘In a Pinch Professional Services’ who is known as being a “dead-body magnet”, does find a body her husband, the Chief must investigate the murder. Meanwhile sixteen year old Blake has a summer job and finds himself in the middle of his own mystery to solve. Along with his sisters they decide to form a junior section of “In a Pinch Professional Services” would be sleuths.
This is a wonderfully written cozy mystery which kept me hooked from beginning to end and with all the twists and turns it also kept me guessing. The storyline flows nicely making it an easy read and the plot has plenty going on which kept me fully immersed in the story. I loved all the main characters, who are part of Madison’s, ‘In a Pinch Professional Services’ and thought that the husband and wife duo of Madison and the Chief were a perfect crime solving couple who worked well together to discover the killer before they could strike again.
Although it is book ten of a series it can be read as a standalone story, however, as I was new to this author and this series I did feel that I would have understood Madison’s backstory better and learnt how ‘In a Pinch’ came into being if I had read the previous books first. I think if the books are read in order than the reader may enjoy this novel even more and would get to know all the fascinating characters. Having enjoyed this book I am now keen to read the previous novels in this series and am pleased to have discovered a new author.

Drifting, Falling -- Diary of a Call Girl SuicideDrifting, Falling — Diary of a Call Girl Suicide by A.J. Ullman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a new to me author but I read the blurb and saw a few teasers and I was drawn in instantly. I needed to know what the story was even it if was going to be a difficult one to get through. I will say yes this talks and deals with depression and suicide in depth from the very first page until the last, but the author does this with a great passion and with class that I have rarely found in difficult reads. This is one that will make you think and realize there are many people who suffer and walk the line between life and death daily, some of us just hide it so very well. I hope this can bring some comfort to those either grieving or suffering from suicidal thoughts. I really was enthralled in Ripley’s story. The way we saw glimpses of her diary and then got input from her psychiatrist was a unique way to tell this kind of story and I enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing what else is out there by AJ Ullman in the very near future!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh yes! This is another hot hot and an absolute must read from India Kells! I have fallen in love with her intense writing style long ago but each new novel of hers just pulls me deeper into her dark worlds and I cannot get enough. True Bastard is the fourth book in the Dark Sparrow Novels and I would think you can read them as stand alones but why not divulge in all of them for the full effect. These novels are fast paced and make your heart race for many different reasons as you read and follow these men and their leading ladies. In True Bastard we get Liam’s story and holy heck is it a doozy. All I have to say is his leading lady is a nun! Yup you heard that right! I can’t bare to give more because this book unfolds so perfectly as you read it I just won’t’ spoil that fun. It is one you don’t wanna miss out on though! I cannot wait to find out what we have coming next from India Kells!

I’ll See You Again: A Scottish rock star, standalone opposites-attract romance (Reigning Hearts Book 4) by K.G. Fletcher – Review by Liz Vrchota

I'll See You Again (Reigning Hearts, #4)I’ll See You Again by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

KG Fletcher has stolen my heart when it comes to her romance novels long ago, but this one sealed fate as my favorite go to feel good romance. Fletcher writes with music as a heavy backdrop in a lot of her novels, a lot of my fav ones, but this always seems to suck me into the story that is much deeper and feels so incredibly connected to the characters and their emotions. Like, holy cow do I feel as if these are real life people that I want to visit and give a hug and share a drink or two with. I fall so hard for these characters and, I’ll See You Again, is no exception to the rule. I must admit I was already sold on Nicky though from the previous books in this series, which I would recommend that you get those as well even though this can be read on its own. I loved Nicky and Mac sweetened the deal. These two will take you on a roller coaster of emotions as you sometimes laugh, cry, or feel mad frustration. I couldn’t put this one down and read it in one sitting. I think this is one series of books that needs to have a special spot on my bookshelf at home so I can devour them over and over again. I can’t wait to see what we will get next from KG Fletcher!

Welcome to another great romantic suspense novel. Not for those under 18 years of age.

We start with Liam Harker, he is a cop set on a mission. This is more of a family hunt. Subject is his father! Unbelievable yes! But true! Liam wants his father to pay for all he has done. While it is hard to take this journey, Liam needs to right some wrongs. Sister Catriona Walsh, yes you saw that! Well she is not quite a nun, she has not taken her final vows. But you put numbers in front of her and she is a wizard. These two people are working together and as dangerous as it is. There are so many questions and yet I give you No Spoilers.

India Kells has written this quick paced, edge of your seat romance. While it was a page turner India Kells does not disappoint. I love her choice of characters, strong women, trusting men and the creeps and forces them together. This is a must read. Thank You India Kells for another hot, steamy and suspenseful romance!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Remember My Name by Laurencia Hoffman is the first book in the Remember My Name series. This is a dark and emotional story that really draws you in. What I got when I started reading this book is not what I expected when I first picked it up. I expected the story to be a little dark and to really take me on a journey however I didn’t expect it to be so full of emotions. I was very pleasantly surprised by this.
The story has been built up well from the beginning. It has a great pace to it that keeps you, as the reader, engaged in what is happening. It was easy to imagine the story as the author does a great job of making you feel like you are right in the story with the characters.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and it has definitely caught my attention. I am looking forward to reading more in the future.

Road Tripped (Satan's Devils MC Utah #1)Road Tripped by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Road Tripped by Manda Mellett is the first book in the Satan’s Devils MC Utah series. This is a spinoff from her original series so although it can be read as a standalone you might want to consider reading some in the other series.
Manda Mellett is one of those authors that I never question any more – every book of hers I pick up I know to expect the best because she delivers each and every time. This book is yet another brilliant read. It is an exciting start to this new chapter of her amazing MC series and it didn’t take any time at all before I was flying through the pages.
Everytime I read one of these books I can’t see how the author could do any better and yet with each new book I read she somehow manages to. This is clear from how strong this whole series is, and continues to be. If you haven’t done so already I would highly recommend you giving them a try as they are definitely worth your time.

By Alexa Kang
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the story Rose of Anzio – Moonlight (Volume 1): a WWII Epic Love Story by Alexa Kang. It is a historical fiction story that had me hooked from the very beginning. The author does an amazing job of making the storyline and the characters come alive. I felt like I was right there with the characters. I loved the characters of Tessa Graham and Anthony Ardley. Tessa is 14 years old and in an unfamiliar country. Sent to the US to keep her safe. Anthony is a young man who while going to college also finds that the world is changing as the draft and joining the war are at his doorstep. I grew to care about Tessa and Anthony with each chapter that I read. Tessa has such an independent spirit and a kind heart. Anthony is a young man who is realizing that he has to choose his path forward. This story had moments that are saddening and others that touched my heart. This is a story that I thought about even after I had finished the last page. Don’t miss out on an amazing story that will have you turning pages to find out what happens next. I highly recommend reading it.

The author has a wonderful way of making both the storyline and the characters come alive. It is a book that takes you on a journey into space in which you never know what is going to happen next. It had me on the edge of my seat. The story is about Alexander “Big Al” Smith and Loyda Miles. Al is a body collector who has gotten caught by Loyda. Forgetting that she couldn’t write if her life depended on it, she wrote her first book in secret, just in case it didn’t amount to anything. Nineteen years later, she has written twelve books and published ten of them. She writes general fiction and mystery-suspense novels, as well as some non-fiction. “Once Upon A Lyme…A Tale of Two Journey” documents her harrowing odyssey through late-stage Lyme disease and the unexpected upside of becoming a writer. The Patience of Karma—her latest novel—is the fifth book in her Madeline Dawkins Mystery Series.

Ashley Pagano has always dreamed of being an artist both figuratively and literally. Her love of art was instilled by her mother who always inspired her to be creative either with a paintbrush or with a pen and paper. As far back as she can remember her life was always centered around introspection, storytelling and imagination. Because she is so artistic, she took to the idea of creative writing very passionately. Her ability to describe a scene, person or place, she compares to painting a picture, where she can describe every detail vividly in order to make the reader feel like they’re truly living in the story. Her works usually center around a powerhouse female protagonist (which reflect her own personality), who progresses through many wild and extreme obstacles, including falling in love. Ashley loves to write stories that end with a cliffhanger, that have the reader begging for more and questioning what happens next. Her most recent novel sets the stage for the fairy love saga of the century and includes vampires, witches, shapeshifters and werewolves who just love to get in the way of true love. Ashley has won awards for her design, art and writing.

Ashley doesn’t believe in down time whatsoever and actually loves having a full “To-Do” list. Ashley is a wife to her wonderful husband, Eric and a mother to a beautiful little girl, Dakota. She is also a Graphic Designer and a health and fitness coach. Her husband and daughter inspire her to be the best person she can be and encourage her to pursue any of her dreams (no matter how extravagant they may be).

Shattered: Rhodes Family Book 1 by Lisa Wood – Review by Karyn Taylor

ShatteredShattered by Lisa Wood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shattered is the first book that I have ever read by Lisa Wood but it certainly won’t be the last. Shattered is the first book in the Rhodes Family series. There are 6 Rhodes siblings, 4 male and 2 female and I’d love to think that this is just the start of a 6 book series.
This is quite a short book and I devoured it all in one sitting. The book was fast paced and the story continued to flow along so I just didn’t want to put the book down – so I didn’t!
In this book we get the story of Gabriel (Gabe) who is the eldest of the Rhodes siblings. Gabe is one of the senior partners at the family’s law firm and he is totally blown away when Olivia Cameron comes for an interview with him.
To say that there are sparks immediately is an understatement. The chemistry between Olivia and Gabe is smoking. Let’s just say that scenes between them are pretty hot and steamy. Lisa Wood surely knows how to get the blood pumping.
The only issue I have with this book is that it contains what I would regard as spoilers for the next book in the series but it certainly won’t stop me from reading the next book as I can’t wait to read Ava’s story as I get the impression that it’s going to be even more hot and steamy that Gabe and Olivia’s story which I loved.
