I give The Chosen: Book One: The Orb Quest Series by Cari Schaeffer, 4 stars.
Gemma is a senior in high school. She has a small group of friends that are different from everyone else, but they get along great. One day they are counting the days until graduation, the next their world gets turned upside down. They find out they each possess special powers. Not only that, but they are what’s called The Chosen. They are supposed to track down special orbs that look like unusual gems. They also find out that these gems are tied into many events in history that involved battles of power. Will they be up to the task?
This is a great beginning to the series. A young adult/new adult book, this is really for all ages. Some books with teenagers can get annoying to people like me who have quite a few years behind them since high school. But this book is nothing like that at all. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters. They are realistic and felt like they could be in my own neighborhood. There is some action and sets up the series perfectly. Not to mention that it’s not all happy thoughts. There is some sorrow which makes the book even more complex.
It is a nice blend of action, fantasy, and fun and I cannot wait to see what the next book brings us.
