No Rest for the Wicked (Life is Hell Series) by Naomi Valkyrie – Review by Jamie Truex

No Rest for the Wicked (Life is Hell #1)No Rest for the Wicked by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another great book by Naomi Valkyrie. Even demons need a vacation! Delilah sold her soul to get revenge on an ex and now she’s a demon who kills cheaters. Normally she enjoys her job but lately she’s just not feeling it. Even demons need a vacation! Right? So she takes off with no destination in mind to find some peace and quiet. Just when she thinks she has found it, fate has other plans.
This book has demons, shifters, witches, a little romance and more. I really enjoyed Delilah’s character. Her whole I kill people but I still like to curl up with a good book is so my kind of attitude. And her need for some peace! I recommend you pick up this quick read.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a unique story! A vegan vampire?! I really wasn’t sure how this story would work, but I really enjoyed it. Basil is such a loveable character and her mates! Yummy! The idea of her moving to a whole supe town and opening up her own shop is perfect. The residents we meet are different and interesting. I was completely wrapped up in this book from page one! Definitely grab this one, curled up and enjoy!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The cover is absolutely gorgeous! That was probably what got my attention. But the story had a hold on me from the first page. The author did an amazing job with world building and the characters, you just get so attached! There’s so much going on in this story but it doesn’t feel rushed. There’s magic, shifters, steamy romance and so much more. I highly recommend reading this book!

The Rise of House ValdisThe Rise of House Valdis by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another wonderful book by a new favorite author of mine, Naomi Valkyrie. I absolutely love her style of writing. Each one of her books draw me in and I have a hard time pulling away to do real life! This one was no different. She does a great job world building and the characters are just amazing. The story was a little slow at first but just wait. It picks up and is very worth your time. I do recommend reading the short prequel but it’s not necessary.

Wow! This ended the way I hoped it would. It’s definitely a roller-coaster of a book, and series. I finally had some questions answered about Riley’s dad. Over all I think this book was well written. It keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat and the chemistry between Cole and Riley is steamy!

The characters are all well written and the illustrations are very creative and fit perfectly with the stories. Each short story teaches very good lessons to young girls. They teach self confidence, kindness, acceptance just to name a few. I think this book is great for girls about 8 years old.

Enemies to lovers for sure! You can feel the tension between the two main characters. This is the first book in the series, but I recommend reading the prequel first. I found it very hard to put this book down to do anything! It kept me hooked until the end. Now I must read book 2!

Another cute story about Cray the crab and his adventures. This time him and his friends help clean up the beach and the ocean. This is a good way to teach children to clean up after themselves to protect our environment. The illustrations are beautiful.

Shifter ShortsShifter Shorts by T.K. Lawyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first book from this author. Honestly in my opinion, the cover photo gives off a different vibe than what the book is actually like. It’s a good book, just not quite what I thought I was getting. There’s 6 different shifter stories, but not your typical shifters. They are all different, like a gargoyle, a hellhound etc. I think it’s worth the read.

I’m definitely hooked now! This is a very short story that comes before the first House Valdis book by Naomi Valkyrie. She gives you just enough of a hint of what Xenobia has had to endure and what she’s trying to escape. I need to know more so I will absolutely be picking up the next book.

Wow! Who knew posting for a roommate would turn into a steamy romance?! Besides the love story, there is more to this book as well. I fell in love with the characters almost from the beginning. Weston needs a roommate to help cover the costs on his newly inherited house. What he doesn’t expect is two roommates or being attracted to them both! Petra and Callum are both very lovable characters. There so much more I want to know about all three of them. I really enjoyed how this wasn’t just a mmf romance book. There’s much more of a plot then I first imagined and I will be looking for more books by this author. Highly recommend this book!

Savage Start: A High School Bully Romance Prequel (Hidden Valley Elite Series) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Jamie Truex

Savage Start (Hidden Valley Elite #0.5)Savage Start by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a perfect way to get me hooked on a new series!! Riley and her mom are constantly moving towns and doing cons. There’s definitely a past there I hope to learn more about. Cole comes from money, but definitely doesn’t have an easy life. He’s had to be the adult of his family. The book ends in a cliffhanger that has me ready to buy the next book already! I’m getting vibes like Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill. If you liked shows like that, I think you’ll really enjoy this book and series too I’m sure.

I am so glad I gave this book a chance. It was exactly what I needed! Werewolves, fae, dragons, arranged marriage etc. This book has it all. And it kept me hooked from the start. I just couldn’t put it down. It is written in first person point of view and I think that was perfect for this book. I really enjoyed how we got to know each character better as the book went on, just like in real life. If you want a book that’s going to suck you in then this is it!

This is the 4th book in the Grave Digger Academy series. Wow! They just keep getting better! I do recommend you read them in order to fully understand why people react the way they do.

This year at the academy is rough for Makayla. She’s never felt this alone. And you don’t know who you can really trust. She is getting more confident in her abilities. I have loved seeing her growth throughout the series. I absolutely can not wait to get the next book!

This is the third book in the Grave Digger Academy series. I have read all three so far and recommend reading them in order. It doesn’t give enough back story for you to fully understand what is going on if you don’t.

Makayla and her brothers expect the academy to be full to the brim with new students this year! Only when they get there, it’s anything but full. Something major has changed over the summer. Her brothers are forced to leave, but she must stay. She learns a lot about herself this year and a new insight into what’s really going on. Will it be too much for her?

This is the second book in the series. I did not read the first book, but I will definitely go back and read them in order. I didn’t feel lost reading this one alone. The author gave enough back story to keep me in the loop. The world building was so good I was right there with Joey throughout the book. I was really hooked from the first page! There is supposed to be a third book in this series and I can not wait to find out what happens in that one! If you enjoy young adult paranormal, absolutely pick this series up.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It was a pretty good mystery. Mimi works with her father, who owns a jewelry store. An old friend of hers brings in a large diamond that she’s trying very hard to get rid of. She says it’s cursed but Mimi and her father don’t believe in curses. Right? If you like reading mysteries then I would recommend this book. It will keep you guessing.

What a perfect holiday book to get into the paranormal spirit with! There are 11 different stories from a variety of authors that give you exactly what you need. Each story is so well written, I felt they gave me plenty to connect with the main characters in each story. Witches, aliens, shifters and more, with lots of action, romance and adventure. I’m definitely glad I picked up this book. It’s not your typical Hallmark Christmas movie. I recommend this collection of short stories.

Rise of the Y (The Y Chronicles Book 1) by Angela D. Shelton – Review by Jamie Truex

Rise of the YRise of the Y by Angela D. Shelton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love dystopian books and this one did not disappoint. The author did an excellent job of world building. I could picture everything like I was there. Lexi’s character is so close to what I would be like. She is 17 and about to take a test that will determine her future. Her job, her home and her husband will all be decided for her, based on her test results. She knows what she is qualified for, but she doesn’t want a boring life and she sure doesn’t want them to pick a husband for her! If she blows the test, there will be consequences. This was a quick read for me. I read it in two afternoons and I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens! If you enjoy any of the other dystopian books, please give this one a chance as well. You won’t be disappointed!

This was not my normal go-to kind of story, but I really did enjoy it. Ebun and Noah are very likeable characters. I wish I would have understood her family issues more from the beginning. I felt a little lost as to why she was in danger. But over all this was a very good book about chance meetings and fate. I would recommend it if you’re looking for a good weekend love story.

Dark Moon Secrets (The Witch Moon Series Book 1) by Lilliana Rose – Review by Jamie Truex

Dark Moon Secrets (Witch Moon #1)Dark Moon Secrets by Lilliana Rose
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this different take on a paranormal story. Tanjie didn’t known she was a witch until her neighbor passes away and leaves her what she thinks is a bookstore. Her character is independent and a bit stubborn. She wants to make her own life decisions but it seems more like fate already knows what it wants. Alaric is the Alpha’s son and should be next in line if he can stop chasing skirts and start acting like part of the pack. But it’s next to impossible once he met Tanjie. There’s definitely a pull between them. What will it mean for the witches and the wolves?

The author did a very good job with world building and made me like the main characters as well as a few others, from the start. My only complaint is I still have so many questions! I can’t wait until book 2 comes out!

I could not put it down! I read it in one afternoon. It is considered a young adult book but I’m in my 40s and really enjoyed it. I loved how it was from CeCe’s perspective, the typical 16 year old girl with teenager issues and some magic thrown into the mix. You can tell the author did her research not only on New Orleans, but on necromancy and magic as well. I highly recommend this book, for any age, if you’re into supernatural, magic, or just wanting a good laugh.
