RELEASE (REWIND Series) by Rowan Shaw – Review by Jenni Bishop

Release (Rewind #5)Release by Rowan Shaw
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Release is the fifth anthology in the Rewind series, featuring a collection of short stories and serving as the culmination of the series. The anthology comes with a caution as it addresses biphobia, suicidal ideations, and depression. While it can be read as a stand-alone, it’s highly recommended to read the previous four books in the series before diving into this one. The finale brings together all our favourite characters from the earlier books.
As always, Rowan excels in crafting beautifully written scenes and fully realized, authentic characters. This instalment turns up the spice and heat, making it a great choice for fans of racy storytelling.
It’s important to remember that love is beautiful, and love is love, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or identity, as exemplified in this wonderful collection by Rowan.
I’m eagerly anticipating what Rowan has in store for us next.

Murder in Prospect: An Eve Sawyer MysteryMurder in Prospect: An Eve Sawyer Mystery by Jane Suen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 stars
It seems that no matter where she goes, Eve finds herself caught up in yet another murder mystery. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy this series so much, because you never know what Jane has in store for us.
Once again, Eve puts on her super sleuthing hat to help a friend uncover the truth behind his uncle’s death. However, this case is proving to be difficult, and a second murder has occurred. Eve will need all her skills if she hopes to discover who is behind these murders. She soon finds that every question seems to lead to more questions.
“Murder in Prospect” is another exciting cozy mystery story in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. While all the books can be read as standalone, I highly recommend going back to the first book to find out where this determined and quirky young woman started.
What secrets are being concealed in this small, historic mining town?

Forever to Fall (Buckeye Falls Book 5)Forever to Fall by Libby Kay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Buckeye Falls is a magical place, full of lovely couples who have found their way to each other, as well as those who are yet to get it together. This small town is a charming place where everyone knows you and knows your business. It is filled with sassy, sweet, nosy, quirky, and colourful characters.
“Forever to Fall” is the fifth book in the Buckeye Falls series. It tells a friends-to-lovers story of childhood friends who finally reveal their feelings to each other. However, sharing what they have may not make everyone happy.
Libby Kay writes magical stories of love, hopes, wants, needs, and dreams. The journey the characters take to get there is part of the adventure Libby presents.
“Forever to Fall” is a charming tale that has it all to make your heart sigh with happiness – a little angst, lots of sexual tension, spice, wit, and banter that had me laughing. Oh, and there is a wedding and delicious food to make you drool.
Grab a drink and escape reality for some “me time” with this delightful tale.

Forbiddenly Yours (Titans of Chicago, #2)Forbiddenly Yours by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can’t get enough of the captivating books in the Titans of Chicago series. “Forbiddenly Yours” is my favourite so far. I always say that about each new book, but it’s true. Make sure to start with the first book in this amazing series or you’ll miss out on some delightfully wicked tales that only Anise can write so well.
The Titans draw you into their beautiful yet dark world, full of alpha men exuding sexuality, intense passion, and a new level of heat. But there’s also extravagance, greed, deception, and at times, pain and suffering. Being a Titan means getting what you want.
What was supposed to be a holiday fling, a one-night stand, turned into something more once he realized she was so much more. Now, the one thing he wants may be the one thing he can’t have, even with all the money in the world. All thanks to someone hell-bent on breaking him of everything he holds dear.
The story is beautifully written, and Anise brings the depth of these complex characters to life with a solid hand. I can’t wait for what comes next.

The Crown of Stones Trilogy Box Set (The Crown of Stones Series) by C. L. Schneider – Review by Jenni Bishop

The Crown of Stones Complete TrilogyThe Crown of Stones Complete Trilogy by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Grab this Trilogy today. You won’t be disappointed if you love dark fantasy.
The Crown of Stones #1 Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider is right up my alley and a wonderful start to the series. I enjoyed her other series Nite Fire, I love a good fantasy story (it’s my passion and what got me hooked on reading, but I digress) and CL did a great job of writing this one. It’s dark overtones and unique magic just made it more interesting. It is intricately woven and has many layers but the joy in the read was peeling back those layers to reveal the heart of the story and the characters. The story has everything you need to make it great, there is plenty of danger and action, drama and magic, intrigue and suspense, and the usual light vs darkness. I enjoyed the unique twist used in Ian’s magic. CL gives us a world that you can easily imagine due to her writing and world-building.
Ian has been living in fear of his magic and using it for a long, long time. Having to live with the deaths of so many makes his life a living hell. When he stumbles upon a new threat, with its heart purely on destroying everything and anything to get what it wants, Ian is forced back into using the one thing he hates most. Malaq tells his brother King Draken that Ian Troy is dead. His death came about due to the collapse of a mine.

The Crown of Stones #2 Magic-Scars – Ian Troy was captured and kept prisoner by King Draken’s demand. Prisoners are kept at Darkhorne prison which is a bleak and horrifying place and kept under control with drugs. Troy has lost his memory as a result of the drugs administered to him while he was in prison. He wakes on a ship and doesn’t remember who he is and what happened to him. Troy tries to recover his memories but gets frustrated with how slowly they are returning. As the memories start to return, he wonders if it was better not knowing. Troy’s magic use and the effects it has on his body and mind leads him to wonder if he will turn out like his father, a Reth. Malaq is building a force of people from across the lands willing to fight for their beliefs. Troy’s relationships are strained, and he struggles to rebuild trust as he blames himself for things that he has done whilst in captivity. He discovers he has many friends, old and new, who are willing to help him as they believe that any hope, they have of freedom lies with him. Troy’s quest is to restore power to the Crown of Stones with the help of others but there are consequences for the magic users when they cast. Troy and his best friend are my favourite characters, but I felt anger and sadness at the things that happen to them. This is a fast-paced story, that is full of drama, action and magic. I am sure you will enjoy this journey into this magical world.

The Crown of Stones #3 Magic-Borne – Ian Troy and his friends are looking for a better way of life, a life free of slavery, tyranny, and dictators, many have magic but with its use comes sickness. Ian is the one who carries the biggest burden, a burden that could set them all free. Ian wants to free his daughter from his father, Jem Reth’s clutches, a father who is evil and wants to enslave magic and its people to his empire. Finally uncovering the truth which has been lost and hidden over the centuries Ian learns what he must do. Ian knows he needs to destroy the Crown of Stones to free the Realm for their chance at freedom. On his path of discovery, Ian learns more about the magic within him and his people and how the Crown of Stones came to be. With this knowledge comes understanding and hope, hope that he can save those that he cares about the most. While all this is going on he looks to the past for help with the future. How much does Ian need to sacrifice and what path has fate set him on? Will he be strong enough and be able to do what it takes to free them all or will his father crush the lands? CL Schneider has written a story of magic, tragedy, and sacrifice. It is also full of love, friendships, and hope. If you are looking for a dark fantasy series that has it all then the Crown of Stones series is for you.

Hooked: The Merciless FewHooked: The Merciless Few by S Courtney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed book one Wrecked and jumped straight into this book. Make sure you start at the beginning as the characters are intertwined. With plenty of action these alpha bad boy bikers with big hearts will protect those they love and those who need it no matter the cost.
A lot goes on and the stories follow the Merciless Few MC, its ride or die with second chances, club drama, steamy scenes, some violence, a lot of danger, redemption, overflowing emotions and plenty of heat.
Hooked is a fast-paced raw drama filled story and you are in for a wild ride. It hits you in all the feels so have tissues nearby.
Jett/Fiend is emotionally scarred, a broken man, broken spirit, ejected, and hiding secrets. Can he dig his way out of the blackhole he has imposed upon himself with the love of a good woman and surrounded by his brothers from the club? You will need to read it to find out his story.
I really recommend this for those that like MC romance.

El Diablo: A Jessica Watts Southwest Suspense Novel (Jessica Watts Southwest Suspense Series Book 2)El Diablo: A Jessica Watts Southwest Suspense Novel by Kathryn Dodson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just like the first book, the second book, “El Diablo,” is a gripping and thrilling story in the Jessica Watts Southwest Suspense Novels series. This book begins two years after the first book, “Tequila Midnight.”
This cleverly woven story embodies gritty darkness, palpable tension, high-end danger, and plenty of suspense. Amateur detective Jessica may be reckless and unpredictable, but there is one thing she won’t tolerate, and that is injustice. There are a lot of sick individuals out there, and she is more than willing to kick arse and take names. She will always run into danger to protect those who need it. Now she is stuck in a world where only criminals and the vile exist, and staring down her own monsters is not a place she wants to explore.
“El Diablo” is a book that will have you on the edge of your seat, looking into the darkness to see what lies beyond. You will find it at times violent, disturbing, dangerous, and questionable, but you will be high on the chase as it twists and turns and totally immersed in it. I loved it.
I need more.

Triggers are contained in this book. An Ember of Hope is the sixth book in this amazing series. I highly suggest you start with the first book and work your way to this one, as the story continues from book to book, you’d be missing out on great reads.
An Ember of Hope is an epic paranormal fantasy story involving a dark world and vampires. The plot is gripping, engaging, and fast-paced. The world created by Theresa is expertly crafted and multilayered, as are the characters, who are well-developed and complex, especially the good characters.
Like the other books in the series, An Ember of Hope is built on a solid, skilfully woven foundation that Theresa has cleverly pulled together. Her Sapphire Blade (Guardians of Camelot)Her Sapphire Blade by Sarah Biglow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first delightful book in the Guardians of Camelot series by Sarah Biglow. It is a well-developed and imaginative paranormal romance tale with witches, warriors, fae, dragons, royalty, portals, and more.
“Her Sapphire Blade” is the story of Morgan, an urban fantasy mixed with Arthurian myth—a legendary figure Arthur and Camelot to be exact. Morgan is anything but a typical woman. Amongst all the madness, Morgan has strength, smarts, and hope but little magic. Anything and everything she does can and will go wrong. She must learn who she is and how to wield her magic. She is a very entertaining character, and I enjoyed seeing her come into her own.

An exciting and intriguing journey is what you will find between these pages as Morgan returns to a place that she has known as only legend, to a realm she once belonged. There are many perils along the way in this action-packed adventure—betrayal, deception, threats, danger, secrets, lies, drama, but there is also love, mischief, and a little mayhem.
Sarah has done a fantastic job weaving this wonderful tale and drawing readers into this magical world.
This was a great start to the series. I look forward to seeing what this talented author does next. Beware: there is a cliffhanger.

4.5 stars
I haven’t read any books by this author, but because I love MC stories, I decided to give it a try. It was only halfway through that I realized there were many more books before in the series. This is Malice’s story in the Demented Souls MC series, where alpha males are tough and take no-nonsense, but underneath it all, they are like brothers and big teddy bears. I love their bonds and banter with each other.
Bonnie was in an abusive relationship but try telling that to her aggressive ex who won’t leave her alone. Fortunately, when he attempts to kidnap her, it is thwarted by one scary-looking man. Unfortunately, his attempts at getting to her escalate, and she now needs the help of the man who came to her rescue.

Luckily, he was in the right place at the right time to stop a woman from being kidnapped, and their chemistry is amazing. Unfortunately, they both soon find themselves in a fight for their lives.
I am definitely going back to read them all. I think I have fallen in love. Melissa is a girl after my own heart with this series.

Wrecked (The Merciless Few MC)Wrecked by S. Courtney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 – 4 stars
I recently came across this book about a motorcycle club (MC) and was intrigued by the story. The book delves into the lives of a brotherhood of alpha males who always support each other, even though they are not related by blood. The Merciless Few MC is a tight-knit family.
The main character, Reaper, has been through a lot, hence the fitting title “Wrecked”. He has faced betrayal, been in a devastating accident, and lost his beloved bike. Now, he needs all the help he can get to get his life back on track.
Avi, another important character, was promised something that never materialized. Desperate for freedom, she runs away in search of a better life. However, the person she once knew is not the same anymore. She finds herself in need of safety from someone else. Their first encounter doesn’t go well, but as they say, there’s a fine line between love and hate.
The book, “Wrecked”, is full of suspense with plenty of unexpected twists and turns. The complex characters, and the sweet Tater Tot and the unpleasant Frankie, are well-written, showcasing the author’s talent. I found myself feeling uneasy after reading about Frankie, but it goes to show how skillfully S. Courtney crafts her characters.
Has Avi escaped one terrifying situation only to find herself in another? The only way to find out is to read the book.

Falling Down is a captivating young adult/new adult contemporary rockstar romance, filled with lively language, humour, wit, and banter among the characters, especially the band members. Wildfire Knockout (The Predator #3)Wildfire Knockout by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s important to read the previous books in the Predator series to understand the characters in Wildfire Knockout. This book focuses on the story of Beth and Scott, who we’ve met in the previous Predator books. Beth, who initially seemed tough, has a compelling and touching story that I was eager to explore. I enjoyed the lively interactions and strong connection between Beth and Scott, but given Beth’s past, her cautiousness is understandable. Despite her wariness, she has a kind heart and slowly learns to take a chance on love. Scott is fiercely protective of Beth, as she has completely captivated him and driven him to the edge. He desires a deeper connection with her, but it’s challenging when trust doesn’t come easily to Beth. As Beth grapples with her struggles, Scott is determined to uncover her secrets and support her, especially when her difficult past resurfaces. It’s impossible not to root for these two characters. The author, Brooke, excels in crafting relatable characters that tug at your heartstrings. Wildfire Knockout is a fast-paced and engaging read that evokes strong emotions. It skilfully combines compelling storytelling with a touch of humour. I highly recommend it!

Finding Hope: A Small Town Beach Romance (Half Moon Bay Series) by Erin Brockus – Review by Jenni Bishop

Finding Hope: A Small Town Beach Romance (Half Moon Bay #1)Finding Hope: A Small Town Beach Romance by Erin Brockus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 – 4 stars
Welcome to Half Moon Bay, a small-town island with sun, sand, surf, and scuba diving. The story follows two fractured souls: a woman who is out of her depth and a dive instructor who comes to the rescue. Both are looking for change and a sense of belonging. Winning a resort in a raffle sounds like a dream, especially if it’s on a Caribbean island, but that’s the beauty of fiction – you can create whatever you like.
Erin’s narrative vividly brings the island, the resort, and the sea to life. The beautiful picture she paints is marred by the characters’ feelings of inadequacy, hurt, and scarred hearts. This heartwarming romance tale makes it hard not to feel for the characters. The slow-burn relationship between them isn’t fully developed until closer to the end of the book, but I hope we get to explore it further in the next book.
I’m eagerly anticipating reading more in the Half Moon Bay series.

Be My Little Baby (London Detective Agency Series) by Stephanie R. Caffrey – Review by Jenni Bishop

Be My Little Baby (London Detective Agency Book 2)Be My Little Baby by Stephanie R. Caffrey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 stars
I was really impressed by Stephanie’s debut novel, Mistaken Identity, so I was eager to read more of her work. I didn’t have to wait long before the second book in the London Detective Agency series was released. In this sequel, PI James Moore is brought in to help when a woman’s peaceful life is disrupted by a stalker. The police were unable to assist, so she turns to James for help. The only problem is that there’s chemistry between them, but he has a rule against dating his clients.
This thrilling story is packed with mystery, danger, and excitement that unfolds at a brisk pace. It’s a suspenseful romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Will James be able to uncover the stalker’s identity before things spiral out of control? You’ll have to read the book to find out. I’m looking forward to the author’s next work!
