Kingdom of War (Kingdom Journals Volume 4) AUDIO BOOK by Tricia Copeland – Review by Kerry Baker

Kingdom Of War Audio Book by Tricia Copeland if the fourth book in the Kingdom Journals. I would definitely recommend listening to these books in order as it is a continuation of the story.

This was such a fast paced book with a lot going on. I found that I really had to make sure I was listening as it would have been easy to miss something important. I really liked the narrator chosen for this book. He did a great job of portraying the different characters and making the book feel exciting. He definitely added to the story.

This is a really great story that I thoroughly enjoyed and it is a strong addition to the series.

Mr. Nice Guy (Pierce Brothers Book 1) by Belinda Williams – Review by Kerry Baker

Mr. Nice Guy (Pierce Brothers, #1)Mr. Nice Guy by Belinda Williams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Mr Nice Guy by Belinda Williams is the first book in the Pierce Brothers series. This is a great example of a friends to lovers romance and one I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved how the chara try’s has such a great connection anyway, as friends, and the author really knew how to develop that. It was so easy to get behind them and hope that they would figure out their feelings for each other.
The story itself was entertaining. I thought I was lighthearted and fun, touching on the sweeter side or romance. It has a nice easy pace about, meaning it was too heavy to read. Overall this was a great book and I am looking forward to the second.

Mr. Nice Guy (Pierce Brothers Book 1) by Belinda Williams. This book is so good I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! This is the story of Chelsea and Tom who are housemates. Tom is the epitome of a nice guy and Chelsea only ever picks bad boys. Tom is a fixer and wants to always help people or get them out of bad situations so when he proposes a deal with Chelsea he thinks he’s just helping her see how a nice guy can treat you. He takes her on a week’s worth of dates and treats her just like a gentleman would and at the end of the week they both have forgotten it was a test. After the test is thru they both realize they have feelings for one another and now they don’t know what to do. Both Tom and Chelsea have their own problems to deal with but as a couple they really seem good! I can’t wait to read about more of the Pierce brothers!

Avenging Devil Part 1 (Satan’s Devils MC San Diego #3) by Manda Mellett – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Avenging Devil Part 1: Satan's Devils MC San DiegoAvenging Devil Part 1: Satan’s Devils MC San Diego by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Avenging Devil: Part 1 Satan’s Devils MC by Manda Mellet was a hard to put down book as I delved into the lives of Niran and Saffie. Niran, a biker, is nothing like what one would expect from a biker. He is kind, caring, nurturing and wants to help. When Niran finds Saffie she is an emotional train wreck and a shell of her former self. Despite this, Niran finds himself attracted to her quiet beauty and he finds himself wanting to help her. Saffie has been savagely assaulted by members of another biker’s club, so she is justifiably terrified of all bikers. Saffie trusts no one and prefers to be alone because she is terrified of getting close to anyone for fear of getting hurt again. Or worse, her ex, Duke, finding her and killing her because she left him.

Saffie refuses Niran’s help and continuously pushes him away, thwarting any efforts Niran makes to help her or try to keep her safe from her abusive ex, Duke. Regardless of how many times Saffie pushes Niran away he feels compelled to help her and does everything he can to show her that he only wants to see her safe and happy. You can feel Niran’s despair and helplessness as he reaches out to help Saffie and keeps getting pushed away. Saffie wants to accept help but is overcome with a paralyzing fear of being abused again. My heart ached for Saffie, and I found myself wanting to help her because after all that she had been through she should not be alone. Despite all the horrendous abuse and tragedy that has befallen poor Saffie she continued to persevere.

Avenging Devil: Part 1 Satan’s Devils MC San Diego was an intense emotional rollercoaster ride of emotions as you are drawn into the lives of both Saffie and Niran. You find yourself overcome with intense grief and anguish for Saffie while holding your breath waiting anxiously to see what, if anything, will become of her and Niran. This book will leave you wanting more! It is a must read!

By L.A. Detwiler
☆☆☆☆☆
Let me just say “WOW”! This was not what I was expecting. It was far better. Full length novel into the mind of an arsonist. This story is not intended for those under 18, due to adult content.

Jameson is a 16 year old looking to find his father. During his search, he finds a journal written by his father. Wondering if he is at all like him, Jameson set out with a plan. Could he find his father by the clues he has? Pete Andrews has lost his infant son to a house fire and is out to seek revenge. Will Pete put his son to rest. Family secrets and fire may not mix in this Crime story.

Well L.A. Detwiler has written this thriller and had me reaching for the next page. A true page turner, with family fires to boot. I really felt the pain her characters displayed. So many broken hearts all under the Arsonist’s hand. I love a well written thriller. This one is above any I have read. You can be sure I am out to find more from L.A. Detwiler! Well Done L.A. Detwiler! Well Done!!

Hell In A Handbasket (Life is Hell #3)Hell In A Handbasket by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Every single book so far in this series is nothing short of amazing. Every book has been a 24hr read and this one was no different.

This is my first MM romance novel and it was so sweet. I love following Oren and Tievel’s story.

Tievel is the hardened heart demon who is angry at everyone and every witch for a past lover’s death.

Oren is a newly found Demon Hunter that is still trying to figure out his past and now his future.

And there is a baby Dragon 🐉

This is the most adorable enemies-to-lovers romance story that I will suggest to anyone who wants a cute quick read.

This was the first book by the author that I have read. It certainly won’t be the last after finishing this one. This was a very quick read for me as I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading it. I laughed so hard in some places that I was crying. So, if you like romantic comedies you will like this book. She didn’t immediately throw the characters into a relationship which I loved because it kept me guessing when it would happen. I was shocked she waited so long, but also appreciated that because you could feel the tension mounting which made the ending that much more bittersweet. If you are looking for a short rom com then this is a book for you.

The Murders of Lillian Ross by Sirena Van Schaik – Review by Angela Hayes

The Murders of Lillian RossThe Murders of Lillian Ross by Sirena Van Schaik
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars

“Why do you have to write this?” He had emphasized the last word.
Allison had given no answer. How could she when she didn`t know herself? She’d been writing since she was a child, but after college, she’d focused on true crime. She wasn’t sure why the stories that actually destroyed lives were the ones she longed to put on paper. In the end, she supposed, it was unanswerable. That was her muse and she never felt settled unless she was pursuing a case.
Allison arched her back to remove the knot slowly building in her shoulders, before finding a more comfortable position in the metal chair. She knew who she was going to meet, who she was getting ready to interview, but she still didn’t understand why she’d agreed.
That was the source of her stress. Not the fact that she was going face to face with a criminal. Since launching her true crime career a decade earlier, she had waited in similar rooms for sociopaths and murderers many times. It wasn’t the criminal who made her nervous; it was the fact that this one had sought her out… had begged her to write the story behind her.
A loud click pulled Allison from her thoughts and the door swung open to reveal the guard and her prisoner.
Lillian Ross.
The name seemed ordinary enough; refined even. Yet this was a killer who had coldly murdered two men. Two men who had loved her. Allison wasn’t naive. She was positive the two men had committed sins of their own, but there was nothing that could condone the way Lillian had butchered them.”

The Murders of Lillian Ross by Sirena Van Schaik is a riveting crime story that had me flipping the pages to find out what was going to happen. It is an unexpected little gem of a story- one I am still thinking about long after finishing the final page. This is really well woven- with intensity, complexity, layers, intrigue, a psychological aspect, and so much more.
I am so glad I took a chance on this story, as it really did surprise me in the best possible way! I have also found another author to add to my ‘must read’ list. Having not read an of her work before taking a chance on this book, I am looking forward to stalking her, oops, I mean exploring her catalogue of work, as well as going on a one-click spree.
Allison McKinnon is a well-known true crime writer who has been contacted by a prisoner, Lillian Ross, who was placed on death row for the shocking murders she committed. Normally Allison writes from the victims’ perspective- so this will be the first time she writes from the criminals’ perspective. Lillian has never told her story before, with much speculation and rumours surrounding her case, getting Lillian’s account could make for quite a sensational story. As the interviews unfold, a bigger picture begins to develop, and Allison realises that she shares a lot in common with Lillian. We get a front row seat to it all as the story unravels- and let me tell you, it makes for a fantastic read!
Sirena Van Schaik doesn’t shy away from exploring the darker side of life- and some of the subject matter might trigger some readers (trauma, violence, abuse, murder).
Highly recommended reading!

Thank you, Sirena Van Schaik!

I was delightfully surprised by this book! I don’t typically read historical fiction but decided to take a gamble on this story and I am so glad I did. I loved the constant banter between the heroine, Isabel, and her handsome yet pushy new husband. I was constantly looking forward to seeing what would happen next and read the book fairly quickly! If you are in search of a book that will pass the time quickly as you are transported into another era this is the perfect fit. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Holy cow! This book – I couldn’t put it down. Detwiler does an amazing job crawling into the mind of the arsonist and drawing you in with her. I always enjoy when a thriller is written in first person; that is to say, when it is done well it is very effective. It forces the reader to experience the journey first hand. Beginnings and Endings: A Selection of Short Stories by Jane Suen was a quick read and entwined the different short stories very nicely. Each story was short but very lovely and encompassed the emotions the author desired to give, whether it was a happy or sad story. This is one to sit on your living room table for others to peruse while visiting. You are not enclined to get too engrossed because of the shortness of the book as it is easy to read in one sitting. Nice stories strung together beautifully for this collection.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a fantastic read! I had a very hard time putting it down and finished it in a few hours. Chelsea and Tom were very sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed the development of their situation. It was refreshing to see a man who overthinks and not just the woman as that brings a different perspective to a relatable issue. The roles their work played, life experiences and idiosyncrasies of their personalities were well incorporated into the plot. I felt like the story was pieced nicely together. The concept of the nice guy taming the unconventional girl with a penchant for under-appreciating men really hit the mark for me! A quote that really stood out to me was, “You think it’s hard to live with regrets? It’s harder to die with them.” This is definitely a good read if you are looking for a romantic comedy with some insight.

I aboslutely love these stories! They are long, full of detail, and every single time I don’t want to out them down! I cannot wait for Part 2!

Mr. Nice Guy by Belinda Williams is the perfect beach read this summer! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a short read that can be finished in a short time. It was the first book that I have read by her and I plan to read the following books in the series.

Belinda has written a very relatable character in Chelsea, reminding me of how it felt to fall for a nice guy after dealing with so many bad guys in the past. Belinda also wrote an amazing character in Tom, making him easy for the reader to also grow attraction towards him as Chelsea develops her own feelings for the sweet and sensitive paramedic. The plot is captivating, with twists and turns in this not-so run-of-the-mill romance novel, that keeps the reader wondering if it will have a happy ending up until the very end of the novel.

Helping my parent run Camp Riley was my number one priority. I didn’t have time for Fitz Quinn—no matter how potent his smile was. He was the spoiled son of a wealthy politician; a gorgeous troublemaker with a cocky attitude.
But the second he spoke to me, I knew I was in over my head.
My heart warned her, but of course I didn’t listen. There was something protective and good beneath the bad boy exterior that made my insides flutter. Before I knew it, I was falling hard and fast.
Fitz
I wasn’t prepared to meet a girl like Cadence.
She was shy and innocent—and nothing like the girls who usually flocked my doorstep.
How could I resist her mile-long blond hair and emerald eyes?
I knew he shouldn’t want her. My father already had other plans for me and a relationship with her could never go beyond the summer.
I thought our stolen kisses by the lake were only supposed to be a summer fling.
Falling for her shouldn’t have happened.
But it did.
Now the clock is counting down until I have to return to the hell that awaits me in Washington D.C.
As September drew closer, I wasn’t sure if I could survive the end of everything I’ve come to love.

The Arsonist’s Handbook: A Gripping Psychological Thriller by L.A. Detwiler certainly grabbed my attention from the very first page. Thrillers are definitely one of my go-to reading genres, and with such an intriguing blurb when this showed up on one of my recommended book lists, I certainly couldn’t pass it by.
Even though it is written in a slightly different style to what I am used to- the journal like writing really added to the overall atmosphere the story created. Throw in plenty of intensity, gripping details, unexpected twists and turns ensured that I was completely engrossed, not wanting to put it down until I had read every last word.
This has been a great introduction to L.A. Detwiler’s work, I can’t believe I hadn’t read any of her work before now- I have been missing out and that is something I plan to rectify right away. I can’t wait to explore her other books.
If you like a gripping read that makes you think, throws in unexpected twists and turns, and keeps you guessing- then this is definitely the book for you!
Happy reading!

Thank you, L.A. Detwiler!

The Arsonist’s Handbook by L.A. Detwiler – Review by Charlene Yates

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Arsonist’s Handbook: A Gripping Psychological Thriller by L.A. Detwiler was awesome and consuming. It was in depth, and took you on twists and turns throughout the book. This book triggered some things in my past for me but still kept me reading. When I mean consuming, I mean it isn’t a light read and it takes and pulls you into it. It has emotional ups and downs and is extremely well written. This book didn’t rush into anything, or dump a load of information or on a whimsical thought jump here and there, Detwiler knew what she was doing and was very methodical when she put her plot twist in the story and built up for each climax. I would suggest reading this and reading other books of hers without a doubt.

The Don (Her Three Immortals #1) by Hazel Storm-Review by Amanda Kimble

The Don (Her Three Immortals Book 1) by Hazel Storm

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Hazel Storm has a new fan and reader. She knows how to write and I will be coming back for more.

Vanessa is not the normal person people think her to be. She seems to have caught the attention of three immortals. Grey, Aroz, and Raef. The quote I chose for Vanessa is: “Hm. Speaking of doing without, would you mind if I take a day off next week? I need to visit some specialists in the city about Piper.”

Grey is the top dog of the Underworld. Vanessa is something he wants. The only question is though is can he share. He’s not the only one wanting her. The quote I chose for Grey is: “How many boys did you say work for him?”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers

Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, book 3) by Amy McKinley – Review by Tina Vega

Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #3)Forged by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have read books 1 and 2 in this series as well, but this one was my favorite. I am a big fan of Ty. I knew I would be when I read first two books. His intuition – loved that characteristic. I also didn’t see a few things coming. I really liked Malina’s backstory which felt fresh and different from any book I’ve ever read- just a different take on civil unrest. I also liked that the conflict she experienced in her country influenced decisions even years later – felt like a realistic reaction. I was into the plotline that began in book one and continued in this book. I was definitely invested in the outcome. The takeaway from this story for me was how grief is different for everyone. Grief can be messy. Grief can be silent. It depends on the individual. I think the author does a great job of portraying that emotion in this story.
