I love love love this author and this series! The Colors of Love was beautiful! I can’t wait to read book 3, I may even restart before I get my hands on book 3. Dealing with the aftermath of book 1, Lance, Melody, and Imani end up on adventures over the next few years of school. The time crunch in this one is definitely quicker than book 1. Race definitely becomes an issue in the book. Imani is a strong presence. Imani even struggles with it herself. Can’t see past it, on how she should only be dating her own race all others are off limits. It’s definitely a learning experience for her, and I am glad Melody had a meltdown and opened Imani’s eyes to reality. Melody is still struggling, with her boyfriend blowing his brains out, she needs to let go. But that’s easier said than done. Jumping into a relationship that she didn’t realize had some serious race implications. Then there’s Lance. Lance is still jumping from woman to woman, till junior year spring break changed his life for multiple reasons. He found out his real dad is alive and well, also not a criminal. Also accepted him with open arms into his family fold. Then there’s Imani, he loves her but doesn’t know how to tell her. He feels the night they spent together was a mistake. Will he ever tell Imani, how he truly feels? Will Melody ever be able to get past what happened to Kevin? So many questions and tons of answers, I just refuse to post the spoilers. I want you to jump feet first into a book trilogy that’s worth every penny!

I loved this second book in the series, the continuation of these characters and their stories. I thought this book was even better than the first, and I was pulled back into the story straight away. I couldn’t wait to see what the author did with the story and what was next for the three friends. This book is just as well written as the first and I found myself even more drawn to the characters than before. I really like how it feels like you truly get to know these characters with each passing page. I have enjoyed everything about this series so far and I cannot wait to read the next book.

I was very excited to read book 2 in this wonderful series, the first book was amazing from start to finish. So I had high hopes when I picked this one up, and needless to say, I was not disappointed! The amazing author created a sensational story once again, and I could not put this one down either.
I loved that this book continued the characters and what happened in the first, and continued. I enjoyed that we got to read about Lance and his story this time around. I really felt for him. And everything he was going through, as well as endured. The book really makes you feel a lot of emotions. Even when they’re painful, you don’t want to turn away, you want more, you want to feel. That’s the power this book and author can have over you. It’s rare and with its power, it’s enlightening as well. The story and writing is captivating. I love how I have the ability to connect with the lead character each book surrounds. I really love that. The book was amazing, and I felt so much! I couldn’t put it down! Loved it!
This author really has captured my interest since the first book in the series, and I know my interest will continue to be held. This book and series gives so much, it is impossible not to enjoy it! Wonderful read, highly recommend this must read book, series and author!

I was completely absorbed throughout this entire book. While I had reservations from the first in the series, the second one has blown me away! Very rarely do I find a series that gets so much better after the first book. This dives deeper into each storyline, and I loved it!
Our favorite trio are back in college after traumatic events, and they are trying to find a way to support each other but still get on with their lives. Lance is doing everything he can to protect his girls and keep his eye on the ball, but something keeps nagging in the back of his mind. Imani continues to be close with her group and finds a new task in challenging her limiting stance on racial issues as well as finding a man that can keep up with her. Melody keeps settling for much less than she deserves but her friends just can’t reach her to snap her out of it. Will any of them make the progress they want or are they bound to stay unhappy with only each other to rely on?
This was a twisting, turning, wonderful story to read and I am reaching for the third in the trilogy right now. You will not be disappointed picking this up because you won’t want to put it down!

I strongly suggest you read these books in order as the end of the first book is the start of this book. The Colors of Love is the second book in this contemporary romance trilogy.
Melody, Imani and Lance are back after surviving the horrors and still trying to cope with what happened in the first book. Their friendship is still strong but they find themselves with more horrors and hardships that test them. This book is Lance’s story but it seemed that Imani had a more starring role. This another journey through good times and bad times and times that will test themselves and their friendship.
There is a lot going on in this book and lots of characters showing up. There are so many emotions in this story. There is also a bit of everything going on with lies and deceit, angst and sadness, suicide and angst, drama and grief, heartache, love, jealousy and turmoil. There is racism, violence and suicide and interracial relationships and more. It is an engaging story that tackles a lot of issues and keep the pages turning.

This is book 2 of this amazing series. The author has done another outstanding job with her writing. Lance, Imani, and Melody are still trying to deal with the aftereffects of the trauma and the choices they make in their life. I found the story to feel truly realistic and original. You can feel your own heart palpitating at some of the action in the book. At some times, you feel the angst or other feelings that they go through. The plot is well-written, with even a few twists thrown in. I found the characters relatable. I was engrossed in the story right from the start. I cannot wait to start book 3. Well, done!

This book tells the story of three college students who are friends embarking on the edge of independence. As a 30 something this book really hit home on how I viewed myself and my friends in our twenties. These three friends are navigating college together and the author does a great job illustrating college life, their love lives, parties, etc. However what I believe the author does best is illustrate how relationships can change over time. It shows how, with startling accuracy, how simple it is for women (and men) to fall into an abusive, controlling relationship. It also does an excellent job showing what the friends of those in these relationships go through. I will admit, the story hit home for me in many ways. The Colors of Friendship is the first in a trilogy and I cannot wait to read the second book. Because as we all know, the decisions we make have lasting impacts on the people around us. I can only hope that the second book continues to explore these friendships and their relationships with the same level of depth that was featured in this book!

Great read—especially for young adults! Ms. Raye did a magnificent job captivating the audience and making them feel that they were also in the circle of friendship! Excited for book 2 in the series—very enjoyable and I love how she portrayed how you never really know what is going on behind closed doors in relationships. A beautifully written story that continually draws the reader in! This story follows the lives of three best friends as they navigate family, relationships, the ups & down of friendship, and falling in love….& the struggles they face because of their differences. The author does a marvelous job outlining abuse and how it not only affects the person being abused, but also affects those who love the victim of abuse. The twist at the end is something you don’t see coming! Fabulous read! Looking forward to the remainder of the books in this trilogy.

The Colors of Friendship is a pretty straightforward read, not TOO in depth, and easy to follow. The story is about 3 best friends that love and protect each other. Melody is a childlike romantic, living with her head in the clouds, and wants nothing more than to find her Prince Charming. Instead, she bumps into Kevin (literally) and while he seems to have the ability to always know what to say, he is far from her Prince. Imani is level headed and focused on her studies and career goals. Unlike Melody, she has no interest in finding a love interest. Then, Trevor comes along, great friends that they are…..And then you have Lance, the football star and womanizer. The irony here is that he uses women for his own pleasures (frequently) but is severely protective if HIS girls (Melody and Imani). There are some triggers in here for romantic scenes and abuse, so that should be known as well….Overall, There are plenty of peaks in this book, and the plot and dialogue flows effortlessly, but it just was not my preference in style. 3.8/5 stars This book was okay. I could see the theme the author was trying to do, I just don’t think it was executed well. Every time I read “mommy” I cringed. It gave Melody a child like persona instead of an adult one. I do appreciate that the black characters didn’t have an exaggerated version of AAVE like other authors try to do. I wish this book was more realistic to the ages of the characters and the college experience.

This is book one of the series. I didn’t know what to expect but boy this book took me for a ride.
This book is about three friends who couldn’t be more different if they tried. Melody is the romantic dreamer. She is absolutely convinced she will find the love of her life and live happily ever after. She wants what her parents have and while there is nothing wrong with that, she places a lot of importance in finding her soulmate in college. Imani is tough and no nonsense. While she doesn’t think love doesn’t exist she doesn’t value it the way Melody does. Lance feels love doesn’t exist but outside of football all he needs to worry about is Melody and Imani. Melody meets Kevin and she’s sure he’s everything she’s looked for. Even when things begin to change she gives him the benefit of the doubt. Imani never had a good feeling about Kevin but Imani and Lance will be there for Melody no matter what.
This book is well written. It touches on some sensitive subject matter as it relates to abusive relationships but it was done well. There was a lot of emotion in this story as Imani and Lance navigated how to help Melody. I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more.

This book is about three college friends. Imani, Melody and Lance have very different personalities but they are there for each other. This story gives you a variety of different college experiences, partying, friendship, studying, meeting new people, and making romantic connections. This may be a trigger for some people because of a relationship that becomes abusive. This book was well written and the characters are well developed. This book brings out different emotions while reading. I was kept captivated throughout the entire story. I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

The Colors of Friendship is about just that, friendship. It explores different worlds that come together to cross paths you wouldn’t think to collide. The author had an uncanny ability to make you think, feel, and react to what the characters have to go through. It did seem to have a slower start that what I personally enjoy, but making it through the beginning and into the meat of the book proved to be completely worth it. I definitely recommend relishing this book and allowing yourself to continue up to the very end, as it is completely worth it!

This was a great read that was centered around college friendships. I enjoyed that friendship was the main theme and thought it was a good choice to place the romantic relationships in the background. Melody, Imani, and Lance have found such a great balance of school and friendship, always supporting each other through everything! There is a switch in point of views with each chapter which can feel a little quick but is refreshing as you don’t get fatigued by too many details. Throughout the story I feel one of the main characters, Melody, seemed to lack a little depth so she didn’t feel quite as real as the others. I finished it in one day as I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. I can’t wait to pickup the second book!

This book brings out all kinds of emotions but was written so well. There are triggers in it but it’s like the author is talking about your friends. You fall in love with the three main characters and you feel like you are right there with them. Lots of twist and turns buts so good.

All I have to say is WOW! The Colors of Friendship is a very powerful novel. With some very dark themes. Be mindful going into it, I was hesitant but I’m so glad I took the leap. Three friends meeting at college orientation for different things. I felt at that age I related the most to Imani. I was that friend, still am. No nonsense, tell it like it is, but will always be there for you. Unfortunately I could also say I related to Imani even more based on what her character went through and fought for. I’ve been in those situations. Outside looking in, in a terrible situation. Letting the one you care for go for someone else in your circle. Then there’s Lance, I’ve known quite a few Lance’s in my life. People like Lance, you want on your side, unfortunately till they grow up they only make good friends. Now there’s Melody, the main focus of this novel. Unfortunately my best friend growing up was a Melody when it came to relationships. Just takes us back to the outside looking in, knowing that no matter what you do or say it doesn’t matter it won’t get through. Which is exactly why Melody believed everything boyfriend Kevin said and challenged Imani. If you’ve ever been in any type of abusive relationship, approach this book with caution. The author does a phenomenal job with each character, and setting the themes throughout. They always say you can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends. My friends are my family. I want friends like Imani and Lance in my life. I hope Melody sees that going into book 2, she’s going to need them. Especially with how book 1 ended, and no I’m not telling. You are just going to have to read it for yourself!

I enjoyed the fact that one of the main focuses in this book is the relationship between friends. Even with other things going on that was always right at the heart of the book. The book was well thought out with some strong themes running through. This is a newer author to me and I enjoyed thr way the story was crafted. Although I thought it was quite an easy read I also found that it had depth and emotion throughout. This is a great start to a new trilogy and I will definitely be reading book 2.

This was a wonderful story. The author does a great job showing how abuse affects the victim and those around them. Melody is a naïve, hopeless romantic. She is hoping to find the love of her life in college just like her parents. Imani is sassy, loud and unapologetic. She is an extremely loyal friend and it shows. Lance is a star football player, he’s hoping to get into the NFL. He also will do anything for his 2 best friends.
A couple of concerns I had: -The 3 of them are incredibly close, you would think that they were childhood friends. When really they just met at orientation. It seemed weird how their friendship was seeing they didn’t know each other that long
-The ending seemed incomplete. I know there are other books to come. The ending just seemed oddly abrupt, it felt like something was missing.
Outside of a few small issues from me, I am very interested in how their friendship evolves as they grow!

This was an excellent book about three friends and their relationships, with each other and with other friends made in their freshman and sophomore years of college. These three friends, Lance, Imani and Melody have a great relationship, but have to figure out how to balance friends, school and romantic relationships. When Melody meets and starts dating Kevin, they quickly become attached at the hip and are inseparable, so when Kevin starts to become abusive and controlling, Melody decides to overlook the issues, and starts to blame herself for what is happening. This book is very good at covering what abuse looks like, both psychological and mental, and the view from the outside looking in (from Imani and Lance, though mostly Imani), and from the inside, with the victim often believing themselves because they are being love bombed into thinking that they are the problem and they are the reason for whatever is wrong in the relationship.
I am truly looking forward to reading the other two books in this series. The characters are relatable, and the story pulls you in from the beginning.

The Colors of Friendship is the first book in the Colors Trilogy by K.R. Raye. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Reye, so I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book. But, who could resist such a pretty cover, and the blurb did intrigue me- so I grabbed a copy and started to explore. What I found was a NA contemporary story with themes of friendship, romance, suspense, college life, challenges, lessons, emotion, and abuse. Some themes could be considered triggers by some readers- so be warned (abuse/ domestic violence). While the story is fairly interesting- I felt it was very slow to get going, and lagged and dragged a lot through the book. This made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story as I kept being ‘pulled out’ of the storyline. And because I wasn’t fully immersed in the story, I became easily distracted, which I think affected my ability to fully connect with the characters and invest in them and the outcome of their story. I really did want to love this book so much more than I did, but I as this is the author’s debut novel (she has written 2 more since then) and the first book in a trilogy, I will wait to read the other two books to see if the issues I had here were just a one-off thing or not, and where the story goes from here. This story was full of diverse characters, friendships, a terrific plot, a beautiful cover and so much more. I have personally never read anything by this author before but after reading this one. I will be on the lookout for more. Their writing style was unique, their character development was terrific, and overall the story was amazing. Full of a hopless romantic, a jerk the size of Texas, and friends that will do anything to protect each other this book was impossible to put down.

This was an enjoyable and engaging novel about true friendship and the obstacles that can get in the way of that friendship. Melody, Imani, and Lance are three college friends, who are either searching for true love, NFL fame or a successful engineering career. Melody is the naive romantic one, who’s aim is to find true love whilst at college, just like her parents did, but is she willing to sacrifice her soul to find it. Imani, is at college to gain a chemical engineering degree and is aiming for good grades, but will she miss out on the friendship that could offer her more. Lance is serious about his football and protecting his girls, and his protection is needed when a threat appears and tests more than their friendship. When Melody meets Kevin, she thinks she’s found true love, but will her quest for love endanger not only her life but that of her friends. I liked all three of the main characters, who are very likeable and relatable, and the dynamic between the friends rings true, with the dialogue between them feeling very natural. I liked how the book is written with all three of them having a voice and telling the story from their own points of view. I thought the prologue gave away a bit too much of the storyline, which took away some of the suspense for me, but it didn’t stop me from happily turning the pages. The storyline deals with some difficult themes, but does so sensitively. I felt immersed in the friends world and I look forward to the next two books in this trilogy.

The Colors of Friendship is the first book in The Colors Trilogy. I honestly wasn’t sure quite what to expect going in but once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down. There are some things that may be a trigger for some as there is some scenes with Domestic violence. This is a fairly new author to me and I definitely plan to check out what other books they have written. This authors style of writing along with amazing characters make for a fun yet emotional ride. This is a story about Melody,Imani and Lance these three meet at college and click. Melody is the romantic type and wants to be like her parents and find her true love while in college. Imani is the non nonsense type and she wants yo obtain a Engineering degree while obtaining good grades. Then there’s Lance and he’s all about protecting his girls f and of course football. These three are all opposite yet there friendship means everything. When Melody gets in a situation will Lance be able to save her before it’s too late? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author and this Trilogy.

I enjoyed this story. The author does an amazing job with the characters making them all unique and relatable. Each character has their own downfalls as well as their strengths. The main focus of this story seems to be the relationship between Melody and Kevin. Their relationship seems perfect and to hopless romantic Melody is everything she wants. But things aren’t what they seem and Kevin isn’t really Prince Charming. Their story struck a nerve with me as I have been in a relationship similar but I got out very fast. The story is hard to read in the way that Kevin manipulates her and tries to distance her from her friends so she has no one. I’m glad that her friends Imani and Lance are strong characters and that they are behind her even when she thinks they are interfering. This book covers all things students do, parties, studying for their futures, relationships both good and bad, and shows that the bonds of friendship can overcome anything even when at times it seems like it can’t.

This book was an interesting yet enjoyable read. It explores friendship in all forms and the bonds that tie people together. Imani, Melody, and Lance were all great characters. The connection between them all and the support for each other and the situations they encounter are all very relatable. Melody was the romantic trying to find love and herself. Imani was career oriented but still trying to find things she wanted in her life. Lance was the football star who liked women, but still understood the importance of friendship. Together their story is somewhat intense, but all around relatable in some way shape or form. Book 1 for this series was a great start

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. I did not think I could feel so much from reading a book. But with this one, I did just that! The book had a wonderful flow of pace I found, as well as the story line really brought you down a road that makes you think as well as wonder. Loved it!
This book very much showed its colors as I read. I felt so much and was very emotionally attached to the characters as I read! I enjoyed reading about the group of friends, and what their lives entail as well as bring to them. I really felt connected to the characters. Like it hit me, really hard. Especially with Melody, I related to her so much with her life choices and the position she was in. Reading her story really hit me deep within my heart, as I felt I once was in the exact position. I cannot say how important it was for me to read the story of Melody and her friends and how much they cared about her. I felt deep emotions, but as much as they were intense, they were beautiful as well! Loved the writing! Loved this book for so many reasons!
This is a book I am going to recommend to anyone and everyone. For sure one that should be read. And the first book in a series, so better yet! I cannot wait to continue reading this series and see where the next installments of books take me! Highly recommend this book! No doubt, it is a must read for sure!

This book was a pretty intense, emotional ride. Three young friends in college end up on a scary adventure noone really wants to be on. Lance is sowing his oats. Imani is just trying to decide what she wants and her plan. She doesn’t even know that Trevor is in love with her. Melody, naive and believing in romantic fairy tales, is preyed upon by a controlling abusive boyfriend. Her friends are just trying to watch out for her. Who will she believe? This stuff breaks up friendships. Can they survive this. You have got to read this book. It’s one of the best fiction books I’ve read this year. This maybe a trigger for some. I could relate to all three, especially Melody, as I’ve had my share of those relationships in my younger years. This is one of those stories where you feel what they feel all the way to your soul. Melody is basing her view of romance off her parents marriage. Not naive, just not a realistic picture. She puts herself in danger and yet doesn’t listen when her friends are pointing out red flags. Imani and Lance are great friends who place themselves right there in dangers way when required. The plot was well-written with twists where needed. I found it to be very realistic but also inspiriting because her friends wouldn’t give up. The characters are very well-developed. It was nice to get a look into the families over the summer. Keeping the mystery of Kevin was a nice touch. The detective in me wants to know more about who he is. Great story, I’m looking forward to finishing the series.
