This is a great hot and steamy short story. For a short story it has a lot of detail and felt like a complete story. The characters were well written and the story enjoyable.

The attraction is intense between them to deny. When she leaves in the morning she thinks it will be the last time she ever sees him. How wrong she was.

Becoming Human by Amy Michelle Carpenter – Review by Kerry Carr

Becoming HumanBecoming Human by Amy Michelle Carpenter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this story. The author does a great job of making the characters engaging and believable. I thought at first it would be hard to follow 3 different characters and their stories but the author makes it very easy to keep up with each character. I love the sci-fi aspect of this story and also the magic around 2 of the characters.

The 3 characters in the book are a teenage boy who doesn’t believe in aliens, an alien who is sent to earth to help save her race, and a robot who’s job is to protect earth. Despite their differences they need to learn to respect each other and work together.

It’s a great story about people and their differences and how by respecting each other we can achieve great things

Wow where to start with this book. It was a gripping read from the first page. I couldn’t put it down. Especially in the current world reading this story gets you thinking about the situation we find ourselves in today. The book is aimed at young adults but it is a very enjoyable read for anyone. The author does an amazing job of building the characters and creating the scenes  that you feel right in the middle of the story with them.

Eye of Death (Vampire State Book 3)by Alexander Charalambides – Review by Kerry Carr

Eye of Death (Vampire State, #3)Eye of Death by Alexander Charalambides
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the Vampire State series and it is just as enjoyable as the the first two books. The story keeps you gripped as you want to find out what happens. Rowena is a great character and the story about her indecision and confusion is really well written. I would definately recommend reading the first 2 books in this series as it will help you completely grasp the story.

The war is raging over freedom for humans in a vampire state. Rowena is not a reporter on the street right in the eye of the storm. In the middle of the war raging all around her. Her jobs is made all the more harder when she doesn’t know which side she wants to be on.
Add to this her blossoming romance with a human Prince and everything is uncertain in her world.

This story is full of action and adventure with danger and romance thrown into the mix as well.

Bake Believe by Cori Cooper – Review by Kerry Carr

Bake BelieveBake Believe by Cori Cooper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great young adult story but I think any age would enjoy it. The character of Cat is very entertaining and funny and strong willed. I enjoyed reading about her and how discovering something new changed her whole outlook on life.

It’s the last day of summer vacation and Cat had an awesome day planned involving the pool, topping up her tan and of course meeting cute boys. What she didn’t expect was to have her life turned upside down by a home cooked pretzel.

Cats diet at home is very bland and revolves around food that is frozen or microwaved. Her mother never bakes or cooks so Cat was amazed when she tried the pretzel and decided she couldn’t go back to eating bland food. But her mum won’t cook or bake. What is the reason behind that? Cats on a mission to find out.

Add to this a mix up with her school schedule that means Cat is taking Culinary class and her world opens up. Something amazing happens to Cat as she bakes which surprises everyone.

The Nearness of You: A British celebrity, standalone love-at-first-sight romance by K.G. Fletcher – Review by Kerry Carr

The Nearness of YouThe Nearness of You by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a very sweet romance. It was an enjoyable read with characters that were well written and you can’t help but fall in love with them. This book gives you all the feelings from excitement and love, to tears and sadness. There are also twist and turns which keep you guessing which I liked as its not a straight forward boy meets girl and falls in love.

Lauren is an aspiring singer on the local bars. She wonders if she will ever get her big break. What she doesn’t expect is to bump into a famous model during one of her shows.

David is in town for his sisters wedding when he hears Lauren sing and instantly falls for her. After spending time together he realises he needs to be with her so asked her to come with him for his big launch.

Cemetery Tour: A Walk Through the Old Yard by Stuart Ledwith – Review by Kerry Carr

Cemetery Tour: A Walk Through the Old YardCemetery Tour: A Walk Through the Old Yard by Stuart Ledwith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was really interesting. It follows the authors through his walks through the cemetery. I have read several books by this author and I love the way he retells people’s stories. In this book he tells the stories of the some of the people who are buried there. The good and bad. The loves and losses. And what made them special even if they didn’t realise it in life.

Each person he talks to and retells their story is an interesting person. All with different paths in life and different stories to tell.

The author tells the stories with compassion, never adding facts to make it more dramatic. The stories are genuine written by genuine people who just want to get their lives remembered and known. With the help of the compassionate author they were able to do that.

Revel (The Howl Series Book 1) by Alden Elway – Review by Kerry Carr

Revel (The Howl Series, #1)Revel by Alden Elway
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a really good book. It is faced paced and contains a little bit of everything from paranormal to mystery and romance. The characters are really well written and I was gripped by Revel’s story.

Revel is a werewolf and part of a pack. Being a member of the pack means she has to abide by certain rules. One of the main ones being no falling for humans. So imagine her trouble when she finds herself doing just that. She can’t explain her attraction to Jamie but it’s definately strong. Can she keep their budding relationship a secret? Will she get punished for even thinking it? Revel’s life is full of secrets can a relationship with a human work when she has to hide so much?

Also added to these problems is the fact that hikers are disappearing in their wood. Are Revel and her family in danger? Why are the hikers disappearing and by who’s hands?

This is a very different and unique book. I loved the way the author uses music and references to music as he goes through and describes his life.

It is a really interesting book of essays written by the author about aspects of his life. They are written with humour and sadness, heartbreak and love.  Everything you read is full of emotion that you can’t help but feel like you know the author by the end of the book.

It’s different to any memoir I have read before which makes it very special and an enjoyable read.

Cuckoo Clock - New York: Esther's Story (Unbroken Bonds Book 3)Cuckoo Clock – New York: Esther’s Story by Elisabeth Marrion
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the Unbroken Bonds Series. This is actually the first book I have read. What is good about the books is I didn’t need to read the first two books to be able to follow this story. Its a beautiful and sad story about world war 2 and how it affected so many lives. It is written in a way that beautifully describes what life was like in those times, the fear that people felt and also how peoples perspectives changed, some for good and some for worst.

When Esther and her father are forced to leave their home they run to Amsterdam to seek safety with their friends.

This isn’t the end of their story as their end is getting to England. After boarding the Kindertransport they come across lots of orphaned children on their way to England. Posing as their doctors Esther and her father join them.
When the Kindertransport gets stopped what will happen to the children who already abandoned and alone? And where will Esther and her father end up? And what is the link between a cuckoo clock found in a antique shop and the lady that buys it?

I really enjoyed this  book. It is full of fun and laughed and of course romance.

Aiko is a cupid but she’s an unlucky one. Everything she touches goes wrong. When she is banned for dealing with humans she goes to people watch as a way to spend her days. That is until she gets her next assignment.

As a cupid Aiko’s job is to help people meet and fall in love. Should be easy right? However her assignment is Alejandro.
On the surface Alejandro is perfect. Hes good looking, works as a vet and is very romantic however he can’t seem to keep a woman.

Aiko’s job is to find him his Mrs right and help him settle down. But things aren’t that simple and when he fights her at every turn her task seems impossible.

Through the 3 books the characters are build up so even though the main characters in the stories are different the leads from previous books appear and you are given more of an insight into them.

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink – Review by Kerry Carr

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an emotion filled rollercoaster of a book which has you gripped from page one and doesn’t let go. There are trigger warnings for this book which are needed because of the issues covered in the story. Domestic abuse is a hard topic to cover and do justice to but this author has done a fantastic job. Its the first book I’ve read in a long time where I have actually felt the fear of the female character. Its like a horror movie where your screaming at them to leave but its easier said than done when you are actually in that situation.

Gianna thought her life would be perfect. She met the man of her dreams, he brought her dream house, treated her like a princess. However her prince wasn’t all that he seemed and their chance meeting wasn’t by chance at all.

Ethan planned everything. What Ethan wants Ethan gets. Whether that’s the cute barmaid who’s caught his eye, an obedient wife or a family he will stop at nothing to get his way. This leads him to resort to physical and mental abuse.

Add to the mix Derek a stranger she met on her wedding day. The connection between them was strong and felt right but they parted ways. He never forgot her and when they meet again he is still drawn to her.  He can tell she has had a bad life but he doesn’t realise how bad. Trying to separate truth from lies he learns its worse than he ever could have imagined.

Can Derek fix Gianna and help her recover from her past. Or are the scars left by Ethan and his abuse to deeply bedded inside her?

Love Heels!: The TV news business can be be murder (PJ Santini Series Book Three) by Lynne Russell – Review by Kerry Carr

Love Heels! The TV news business can be murderLove Heels! The TV news business can be murder by Lynne Russell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the PJ Santini series. I haven’t read any of the others but I would recommend to do that as this story was a bit hard to get into without it. However once I got into the story I found it enjoyable. I liked the characters and the humour the lead character has. I love how the writer has brought not only PJ but her whole family to life. With the comedy between her family and the intrigue in the case she’s working there is something to keep everyone gripped.

PJ is a private investigator and a TV reporter. When a divorce case she is working on turns into murder she needs to find out who is responsible. But with pressures from her job and her family this is going to be anything but a simple investigation.

However this year, instead of just causing trouble the Yule Lads start leaving little gifts for the children and they realise how amazing it is to see someone happy through their actions.

Starvation by Molly Fennig – Review by Kerry Carr

StarvationStarvation by Molly Fennig
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a hard book to read but for the right reason. It covers subjects such as loss and eating disorders. What I really like about it is that the story is from a male perspective which I think is really important in opening up talk about eating disorders in men. Helping to realise it isn’t just an illness women suffer.
The loss also hits our character at the same time he is dealing with this as he loses his brother. The pain and grief is hard to read and when the truth of what happens come out it makes things even harder to comprehend.

This book has been written with a great lot of care and respect for both people dealing with eating disorders and people dealing with grief. It will be a great read for someone going through these things to show them that no matter who they are there is always someone there for them.
