My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a story that doesn’t cater to fluff! The story moves along at a wonderful pace. The author picks the characters and progresses them along with a few stops here and there. I have no time to get bored because of the action that these stories are known for is also in this book.

We meet some new characters as well as reconnect with some older ones from previous series. So it is a nice blend. I don’t spend too much time trying to figure out who goes where and what they do. But yet I do get to meet new faces. I was glad to see Roz and Kanan in here….they have been my favorite couple in the Fortis series. All the secondary characters held their place and didn’t overshadow the two main.

I really loved the story of Alex and Evelyn! It’s a mix of second chance and long lost love. They are so cute as youngsters but even sweeter as they meet again. Besides they are both deadly now….what can go wrong? This is a great beginning to this spin off and I eagerly look forward to reading more.

First off I want to say I LOVE the cover of this book. That drew me in right there! Then I start reading and I am captivated by the beginning. Them I’m thinking…it can’t get better?? Yes…yes it does! The names of War’s crew and we won’t even talk about their attitudes but DANG! I love this!

My only and I mean ONLy issue is all the rehashing in their heads! I’m not saying this situation doesn’t warrant it. Pirates..Kidnapping and Mafia..OH My! Each of these characters comes off very strong (not physically) and to hear them be so unsure in their heads turned me off after a while. That’s not to say I didn’t devour this book. Because I did! I read it in one day! This is a great idea for a series. A new avenue of Something that has been missing. Modern day pirates! I can t wait for Cutter’s adventure into romance.

I am a huge fan of vampire stories. So picking this up was a no-brainer for me. I loved the quick romance of the two main characters. The story has its ups and downs. Parts I struggled with…others I didn’t want to put it down. I did read it fairly quickly. The characters were annoying, secretive and silly. I even chuckled and snickered a few times (Thanks Shane and Tatum!)

I liked where this is going but the inner dialogue of Lila got old after a while. She almost sounded like a teenager with some of the things rambling through her brain. Not counting what came out of her mouth. Now with that being said on the second half of the book…it’s like she grew and became not so annoying. While Adam is her guy I enjoyed her interactions with Tatum the best.

Easily the second half of the book was much more enjoyable. Once the other vampires started showing up and there were more interactions. It became fabulous! I loved all of them with their quirks and eagerly look forward to more stories with all the secondary characters. Even Nick!

Enemies of the Desert (Silent Secrets Series Book 3) by Lisette Kristensen – Review By Lisa Helmick

Enemies of the DesertEnemies of the Desert by Lisette Kristensen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This picks up about a month after the last book. In this story we get to hang out with old friends and meet some new ones. With that being said I would recommend reading the previous books in the series to see how Blackbird became a Mossad and how she is moving forward. This one isn’t as full of action as the last book. It seems to be showing a softer side of Blackbird and Even Halo. Which is nice but when business time arrives everyone switches gears. There is a baddie that shows up again in this book. We have met her previously and I really don’t like her. She is Evil incarnate.

This is another good book for this series. I could see Blackbird struggle a bit in this one with a few different things. Trust is a hard commodity to come by in her new world as it was in her old world. I am always impressed at her ingenuity when different situations arise.

I was very excited to see this book! This is the third in the series. I would recommend reading the other two books before this one. It’s not necessary but there is a lot of reference to stuff that happened in them. In this one Dahlia and Creed are searching for whoever is leaving body parts all over the city. Yes I said body parts! Her sidekick Evans is back helping her all he can. Plus doing all those sidekick activities while looking for his sister.

This is a fast moving story full of action. It’s easy to read and follow along. The characters are full of zest and that Dahlia can wield a weapon. I have to say I was happy to see Coen in here. He is always so mysterious and sexy. The story answered many questions that arose in the last two stories.
On a side note I love that cover and the title. Both fit the story perfectly!

This is a quick read where we get to see all our friends from the past books. This one is focused on Robin. Remember her? She is a minion to a low level demon. She always has done what she has been told. Except this time she doesn’t want to….what will happen to her?

This isn’t my first book by this author or in this series. The writing is spot on with her other stories. The characters are good continuations along with a bit of fun. The story flows nicely and it’s fun to find out about secondary characters. Im glad Robin got her story. I always wondered why she became a minion. You can easily read this as a stand alone or start at the beginning of the series for some Paranormal fun.

This is a good story that drew me in easily from the beginning. It is smart and snappy. While it lost some of that edge as the story moves forward it still kept me interested. This is full of small town gossip and problems. Everyone is whispering and talking about everyone else and there is no business like everyone else’s business. This became a little too much for me as the story rolled along. It wasn’t over the top but just not something I am a fan of.
I did like the Main characters. Rich, the kids and Sarah were fun and added zest to the story. I wish there was more romance instead of the doubt that was always there for the two MC’s. I would have liked the story to touch back on the whole dandelion thing. I thought that was so sweet but it never resurfaced. I highlighted those words because they were so true and a great idea

This is a first time author for me. It was a good story and I read it fairly quickly. My main issue was realism. It was a bit like a soap opera and involved a lot of small town chatter.

Bowled: Facing the Yorker of Love (To Love a Sportsman Book 1) by Pamela Q. Fernandes – Review by Lisa Helmick

Bowled (To Love a Sportsman Book 1)Bowled by Pamela Q. Fernandes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This isn’t my first book by this author. I enjoy her writing style and characters. Although I don’t know a thing about cricket I did struggle with this story at the beginning. Once I got going with the lingo and speaking manner I couldn’t put this down. This story is full of ups and downs as we follow the lives of Mathew and Rose. I enjoyed learning about them and what they went through to be together. My only issues is a couple times (after arguments/misunderstandings) it seemed the story just moved forward with no explanation or discussion to remedy the situation. I don’t know many women who would just let something go time after time after time. Then a couple times I wasn’t sure where we were (NY, London, the pitch) which confused me.

I really was saddened about a couple of events and shocked at others. I think their NY time together is my favorite part of the story. I didn’t have a favorite character. The two main characters really take up most of the story with a few minor one here and there. A nicely enjoyable story

Salty Sebastian (Smirk Series book 3) by Jen Luerssen – Review by Lisa Helmick

Salty SebastianSalty Sebastian by Jen Luerssen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sebastian has always come off as a more mature person than his friends. So i was curious to see inside and what makes him tick. We get to see another side and see why he enjoys his friends and their ridiculous teasing and banter. I really love Sebass (to quote Mikey) he is such a great character. Romantic, Straight laced, calm (unless drinking) and honest (which i loved about him) plus he is more mature so he doesn’t do all his thinking with his emotions. I was worried early on with all the hot and cold he and Kit were showering each other with but I understood it all later. Kit fits in seamlessly with this group of crazy characters. She is outspoken, brash and has a good head on her shoulders. The more I got to know her the more I liked her.

As for secondary characters. I really can’t say enough and think enough about Sig and Peyton! They are the BEST! Sure it was nice to see Lia (with her made up names), Frank (grumpy), Mikey (outrageousness), Joe and the Crew. I love seeing them together but in this one Sig and Peyton take home the trophy.

The author continues the wonderful strategy of having the characters tell the story as well as talk to me…the reader. It’s a perfect combination. While this is the third in the series you can easily read it as a stand alone. The story was surprising, which I love, and fun filled. How can it not be with this crew!

Vermilion Lies (The Order of the Senary, #3)Vermilion Lies by L.D. Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! This is as much of a thrill ride as the last story. It starts off a bit slow as you get to the the two main character individually. But once they come together….hold onto your hat! It’s explosive! I literally couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen to this amazing couple next. Each is strong on their own and I loved seeing their characters grow. Cindel probably did the most as she saw what she had the potential to be.

It is lovely seeing all the boys and a few of their mates/wives again. As I have stated before I love hanging with these guys and listening to their camaraderie. We got to see Jon in action and I enjoyed Dax’s thoughts on it. (Very JJ…they don’t call him the Black Bullet for nothing) not to mention Blaze, Rome and new comer Kayne. Kayne is quite the guy! He has fun with everyone calling Dax “Frosty” and Cindel a special name as well. He always banters obnoxiously with all of the Senary boys. He seems to always put a smile on my face.

Another action packed story from this series.

SPEECHLESS…this story left me speechless with my HEART pounding! It’s so so GOOD!

This is not just a romantic story! It is so much more! I really feel as though I am going through this with Layla. (Love her name Btw) Her courage, awkwardness, insecurities and at times her loneliness all got to me. I can see why so many people are giving this all the stars! This is simply outstanding! I usually don’t go for book with too much realism. Because it’s a book and I want to escape. But this one just touched my heartstrings.

Kellan was simply wonderful! I want every man to be like him! Kind, thoughtful and sexy all rolled into one package. He does and says the most wonderful thing to and for Layla in this story. I love his never give up attitude!

The secondary characters deserve a mention. Her parents…well her mother drove me crazy..she almost seemed like a “real” mom. But Even crazy has its reasons. Let’s talk Russell! I almost love Russell as much as I do Kellan!! Best brother ever! Check! Best friend ever! Check! Full of humor and love for his family! Check! check! There is Nothing not to like about this man!

This isn’t my first book by this author but I think it’s her best that I have read by her. This is a little different from what she usually writes but like I said….better! This hits a lot of nails right on the head. Nothing is shy-ed away from. It’s perfect and I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend to women and men.
Very lovely and touching!

This is not a first time author for me but this is the first book I have read in this series. I got hooked by the cover. Who doesn’t love a hot fireman story! That is what interested me so I snagged it.

Tony was great! A typical ladies man. Who can never see himself with the same woman night after night. His distaste for his friend Derron is almost comical at times and I knew it would bit me him in the rear eventually. I love how he calls Georgia “peaches”. His idea of a fake relationship with Georgia worked against him. It was sad to see him fall but i was very happy for him while reading his thoughts. Georgia really had personal growth in this story. I felt sorry for her at times when she went to visit her family. I loved that Tony stood up for her. (I think she loved it as well).

This is an easy read that flows very well. I was able to read it in a day because once it got moving I could hardly put it down. Georgia and Tony have ups and downs in their relationship. I really *felt* for them a couple times. I enjoyed getting to read their story.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is not my first book by this author. I was excited to read it because…you know..dragons. What I got was a life story/history story on angels, dragons, and humans. I have not read any other books in this series but I am wondering if all the tidbits I am reading have to do with their stories. It’s full of matings and soul mates. It starts many…many years ago and goes to the present. I can’t even count the number of characters but let’s just say it’s large…very large. It was a bit hard to follow with all the different names popping in and out. Trying to place them with who and what they are caused me to create a list. A couple times stuff happened and we just come in for the aftercare. So this might be better if you have read the rest of the series or some of the other stories.
The story mainly follows Zander from archangel days to now him living on earth. He was mated, created children and adopted others. His house now is full of children, mates, friends and new acquaintances. His life has changed as he is now single. Once the human neighbor moves into the house everyone’s lives take a turn.
This story is full of all the paranormals. From Were-animals to phoenixes to angels. While this mainly follows Zander and Chloe. There are a multitude of other stories that all intermix.

Just after reading the first chapter. I know this is going to be outstanding! I loved the whole issue with the locking of the car door! So funny and something so small but adds so much to the story! I really can’t say which character I liked the best. I loved Tracker because of the alpha in him. His attitude and his thoughts were amazing. Kerri…first off her true name is so crazy…but I liked it! Then she is this princess of the Mc but she hates that life. She is so strong, smart, sassy and has attitude as well. She might have grew up in the MC but she worked hard to get out and doesn’t want any strings connecting her anymore. She changed her life for the better…..until Tracker arrives.

This is a story with twists, sexy alpha guys, strong sassy ladies and hot nights. I was drawn to these characters. They had me chuckling and just wanting to know more. The secondary characters added some fun and interesting moments to the story. Whether it was Butch and his yellow camero or Ms Violet with her special interest in her neighbors hot guys it all easily kept my brain engaged.
I look forward to Hawks story and how life is going to shape up for these Lost Boys.

This is a wonderful story with a huge cast! I did not read the first book in the series and struggled a bit with all the characters. But after a bit it all calmed down and I was comfortable with the story. This has vampires, witches,a werewolf among others. I enjoy reading about vampires and werewolves so this was right up my alley. The story moves along at a good pace and easily kept me interested. The title is perfect because that is where the magic happens. Life is changed with just a dinner. I loved how growly Jules was. It fits in perfectly with his character. Each of the characters had some growth to do and I enjoyed reading that.
This is a lovely Paranormal story. While we didn’t get to spend much time with the secondary characters I would say Margot is my favorite. I can’t wait for her story it’s going to be a blast. I recommend this to fans of vampires and werewolves.

This is a good interesting story. It starts with Maia who considers herself normal. She has this crazy job as a competitive eater. (I loved that). She randomly meets a few different guys who she is “hot” for but not much happens.

This is a slow moving story. I loved learning about Maia and her job. I got stuck on her being 19. She seemed much more than that age throughout the story. She seems very mild in attitude except for a couple times we Saw some fire come out of her. The three men she meet are lovely. I wish there was more commentary between them and maybe some snark to liven up their scenes. I did enjoy how they each had a specific role to play and how they stuck to it. I hope in future stories we will see more development of their characters as well as Maia’s.

What did I love about this? The story idea is original and creative. The characters are interesting and I think have a great future ahead. I would like to say the cat….but I think I like the djinn better. I was sad at the end but it probably makes book 2 more adventuresome….I see a rescue in her future.

I just want to say this is a slow clean story. If that’s not your thing…please read on. If it is…please read on! This is full of sweet romance. Not only that but this also tell the story of amazing friendships. I will say that I had tears in my eyes a couple times. Yes there are obstacles in this but mostly it’s about the lovely relationships that the MC has. The girlfriends…the brothers and the new guy. It’s about life and living it on your terms.

I usually don’t care all that much for a slow romance. I actually tend to skip over paragraphs while reading. This one I did not do that. I actually LOVE this guy! Well this slow romance. He is so thoughtful and kind and nice! I love how he always wants to be touching her, kissing her on the head or neck and those SLAPS on the behind!! That makes him sooo SEXY! I loved reading Chapter 13…..(Kirk’s chapter). Getting his thoughts on some things and his feelings was nice. I wanted to highlight most of that chapter!

Her friends…I LOVED as well! That Grant! Not to mention Grace and the Wine Girls! They were all adorable and really helped move this story along. The writing was smooth as I had questions about a few things but they were answered as the story moved along. Obviously I loved all the characters. Such a great story!

This is a great story! If you like a little murder mystery this is for you! The characters were well developed and interesting. The story has many ups and downs. Who did it? And Why? Are the thousand dollar question. While I enjoyed the story there seems to be something off. It I am thinking it’s the too much detail of the conversations. I never thought I would write that in a review. Conversation is my favorite part of a book. It just seemed some of this way day to day stuff not really moving the story forward or cementing a relationship. It was just filler. Now don’t get me wrong the actual murder mystery was well done. But alas I also am not a great fan of the ending. I just can’t see it. But who knows? Are people ever who they seem? Especially in books.

This is a tale that takes you in ups and downs. There is some romance in it but it’s not the theme for the book. Mystery and intrigue are what fuel this story. Talmon is hired by a couple to spy on their investment. While doing that he meets a load of new people. They are mafia, con men and lovely ladies. The story drew me in and didn’t let go. I was wanting to know what was going to happen. It seemed like there are two different stories to follow along with. I enjoyed the characters and the trouble they got into.

This is an great story! I enjoyed reading it. There are a ton of ups and downs and a couple times I wasn’t sure everything was going to turn out alright. The story held my interest and I love the easy going writing style of this author. The characters were fun and lovely. If I could only get that Scottish or Australian accent right in my head it would be perfect! Livie is the star of the book. Her secret love/best friend has just decided to marry her worst enemy. I think Livie does the right thing by moving to another place. That would be the fastest way to accomplish recovery. Sadly everything she is running from….follow her to Scotland. So now she really has to figure out how to deal with her problems. Jenny was a great secondary character. (Well Cal too) I loved how she is always there and avail to help Livie whether it’s business or personal. Yet she never overstepped those boundaries.
Another amazing story by Natalina Reis.

This is the third in the Lucky Devil Series but can be read as a stand alone. The flows very nicely and before I knew it I was caught up in the story. The characters are good. Margaret is a drug addict. She knows there is nothing else in life for her but that. Elias finds her and removes her. He gets her cleaned up to start or finish her life. They each get something they don’t expect out of this.

This is a good story. I kinda figured out the “what” was happening but not really the “why”. It was weird at first but then became intriguing. I needed to know how their story would end. The author did a good job of pulling me into the story until I couldn’t wait to find out what happened

Wow! Just WOW! This is a wonderful story. Danny Boy has been portrayed as a bad boy in the past. Problems? He has them. You name it. Once he conquered a few of them his brain/attitude became the problem. He met the lovely Ms Amelia Patterson. He became Daniel to her. He was always trying to be better (Daniel) but sometimes the Bad boy (Danny Boy) takes over. Not sure if he can reconcile both.

Danny Boy has been one of those characters you love to hate. He really added some trials and tribulations to the previous books. This one shows him in the raw. Trying to come to terms with who he is and where he is at in his life. Many times I *felt* for him watching his struggle. It was interesting being Inside his head.

Amelia has the patience of a saint! Actually that should be added to her title :-). She believes in Danny Boy. Bottom Line. No matter what happens she knows in her heart he will overcome. But she wants something out of life and doesn’t believe Danny Boy is capable of giving it to her. She really is as strong as Sophie! Again I am impressed with her and her choices.

It makes me smile seeing(reading) about these guys again. I realized how much i missed their crazy brotherhood. The relationship between Conor and Gavin, Shay and Danny Boy. They have been through some stuff but still came out the other side and remained friends or brothers.
These guys have all grown up and it was quite the ride but a joy as well.

This is a wonderful read! If you enjoyed the Rogue Series pick this up! If you haven’t..give it a go!

Excellent as usual Lara Ward Cosio!

I loved this! I really enjoyed this easy to read story. The whole romance is amazingly sweet and very romantic. Sean was an quandary to me. He seemed so normal (and amazing) but there is that pesky “I see dead people” issue. That would be a huge pill to swallow and keep down. Although I was intrigued by that side of him. His past issues and how easy he accepted it. I loved his temperament through the story.

I have never been a fan of ghost books. Oh i loves to tell ghost stories but never in with a romance. This is one that i could easily read again and again. It didn’t insert the whole ghost theme as a romantic partner but as a secondary level. I liked that. I will think a little differently about getting a “chill” in the room now though. The whole ghost part was interesting to me. I would be curious how much is true and I wonder if a trip to the French Quarter should be in my future.

This is a smooth story that sparks your tummy flutters as well as firing your suspicion. It has heart and me smile! Another wonderful story by Carrie Pulkinen

First of all…..Did you see that gorgeous cover!? If not take a sec. I’ll wait. Go back up and have a look! Dazzlingly Beautiful right? I Love…love…Loved this story! I have been waiting for Stephens story since we met him in the first book! I was NOT disappointed! His and Tandi’s story was perfect! I love her for him! Her sass and determination along with the way she irritates Stephen. He is always Mr Cool but there is that fire in his eyes that she seems to bring out. Usually I favor the male in the story. But Tandi is pretty high up there as well.

Tandi’s thoughts on Stephen are hilarious! I love what goes on in her brain. I can easily hear her talking in all her sarcasm in my head. I sometimes wish I could listen in on Stephens thoughts through this process. I can only imagine what would go on in his brain!

This is as full of wonderful characters as the other two in the series. I enjoy the evil ones because I never know what they are going to do next! I’m talking to you Akeldama! But there are many others that put a smile on my face and happiness in my heart.

These books just keep getting better and better! I don’t even want to put this one down!! This is one of my favorite series of the year! Next please!!

This is the third in the series of the Paranormal Talent Agency. In here we meet Mia. She is a water spirit…and a producer. When a client is murdered she hooks up with a reporter to find the reason. This leads her on a merry chase but she does get to meet the charming Det Jacob Dawson. Sparks fly between them but could he ever accept her as she really is? Or will the murderer come between them?

This is probably my second fav book in the series. There was a lot of movement and sleuthing. We also got to see Evie and Catherine along with a few others from previous books. Not really to catch up but to move the story along. It is not necessary to read the previous stories to enjoy this one. This is a nice short story with a *spark* of romance.

Wild Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells – Review by Lisa Helmick

Sad to say this isn’t my favorite of the Dark Sparrow stories. I almost felt Kai was a bit too soft hearted. I don’t feel that strong/alpha man vibe from him at all nor did he seem too wild. There are some intense situations here and if it wasn’t for his brothers I am not sure how it would have turned out. Isabel is a strong female character. She did a good job overcoming her past and coming out better for it.

I DO feel for Kai in this one! Although I don’t know whether to be mad at him or Isabel for this situation they repeatedly find themselves in. Yes her past could be an issue but it could be overcome… if it happens going forward it would be pretty hard to swallow. So I can’t believe there wouldn’t be another way. Cryptic, I know, but I’m trying to not give spoilers.

I loved seeing and getting to hang out with Zoe and Archer! They along with others from previous books make great appearances! We get to know more and more of their characters. This is a wonderful and helps me connect with characters through the books. Plus gives me insight to the remaining brothers.

I loved the idea of this book but I just couldn’t love it like I wanted. Maybe it was the first love mixed with the seedier side just didn’t mesh for me. Too opposite.. not to worry I will check out future books to see what happens to some of these characters.

Another great book in the series! This seemed to move along so fast! Before I knew it I was half way through. Action, action and more action is in here. I am glad I’m not a character. I would need a breather. Phew! What did I love about this? Everything! Charlie and Tandi have an amazing friendship. I loved their discussions and Tandi added some great comments. Jameson is so different from his brother and I love how he doesn’t shy away from his destiny.

As in the previous book there is a slew of characters that we meet or have previously met. Some are helpful some are not. There are good ones and evil ones. They are all great for moving the story in a forward motion.

This is the second book in the series. While it can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend reading book 1 (The Werewolf Queen) to enhance your enjoyment of this One. Personally I think this is a great series and all Paranormal lovers SHOULD read it. I eagerly look forward to more in this series!

P.S. I love the cover! Look at that crown! Perfect!

This is a slow story that took a bit to get moving. Once I got to about half way it picked up. I’m not sure the problem but it just couldn’t keep my interest until the story started getting better.

I was so crushed when Dean took off as soon as he heard his ex fiancée showed up looking for him. I mean they have history sure but was he hoping to still marry her? Dang! Typical guy move. Dean was kinda disappointing to me throughout the story. I didn’t really care for his thoughts or actions. He seemed more into his past and not looking for a different future.
Flora (great name) has relationship baggage. She also has a wonderful flower shop. I loved that about her. Her wonderful friend MK works conveniently close and has a coffee shop. They have been besties forever so they had some nice conversations.

While this is a nice story it just didn’t do anything for me. It has perks but overall I just couldn’t get over the short period of time from the Incident to the final. Maybe a six or nine months later chapter would have been better. We could have missed the whining and moping and I would have felt better about the relationship as a whole. Sorry.

This is a lovely story that i enjoyed more and more with every page i turned. This did make me sad at the beginning. But more than made up for it later. The story was good and I loved the characters.

Miranda was goofy at times and I wondered what she is thinking. Other times she just had me shaking my head. But overall she gave me hope. Hope that even though someone Is older…she can still have that life she fantasized about living. Sometimes Act Two can be better than the first.

Thank goodness for her girlfriends. While they add nicely to the story they didn’t take anything away from Miranda. I did LOVE the name they gave her ex. It cracked me up! This is a shorter story but It really doesn’t seem that way. I felt like this was a full book with all the love, silliness and irritation that would accompany it. The ending rounded the book out perfectly! I loved it!
