I normally cannot stand mysteries! I can normally call the ending and everything after a certain point gets slow and turns time into syrup while reading, but not Mann in the Crossfire by R. Weir. This book is the eighth book in the series, but it makes a good stand-alone novel too. Reading it as a stand-alone made the beginning harder to get into for me, but the ending is satisfying no matter what!
The focus of this story follows Rocky (Garrett) and his family story. Jarvis Mann is running around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to put this puzzle together. Why is Brandon in trouble? And how does Mann’s trouble in Colorado have to do with what is happening in California? The dark twists are not what you’d expect from a P.I. novel. R. Weir holds nothing back with this beautifully written novel, where not a word is out of place!

Mann in the Crossfire (Jarvis Mann Detective Series Book 8) by R W Weir. I love this series and I couldn’t wait for this installment. It did not disappoint. Its the continuing story of the Jarvis Mann Detective Series. These are best read in order but can be read as a standalone. Jarvis Mann is a Private Detective and when he discovers a former co worker is murdered he of course has to investigate. Traveling from San Diego to Colorado to search for clues as to why Rocky died. While investigating this murder he realizes that Rocky was into some very dangerous investigations of his own. A particular gang is involved and they are not nice. This case leaves Jarvis literally beaten and hospitalized. Will Jarvis be able to find out what happened to his friend before Jarvis ends up dead as well. Hang on to your seat when you read this fast paced read full of mystery, murder and mayhem. I loved this book!

If you are looking for a thought provoking thrill ride that will keep you guessing, immediately add this book to your summer reading list. Weir is proving to be a one-click author for me, masterfully crafting stories of intrigue that brilliantly unfold and engage the reader. This book was fantastic and I am scrambling now to get caught up on the rest of the series. What an amazing find!

Once again R. Weir has written a brilliant suspense story with Mann in the Crossfire. His plot is fast paced and includes perfectly placed clues, complex characters, and so much suspense that you’ll be reading it in one sitting. While Mann in the Crossfire is part of a series Mr. Weir has done a wonderful job writing them to where they can be read as a stand alone. While I have read quite a few of Mr. Weir’s novels I have to say this series is one of my favorites and I have to wonder if this eighth installment is the end for Mann. Personally I hope Mr. Weir continues this series.

Jarvis Mann is quite the character. Quirky, unique and a personality of his own, he keeps you going right from the beginning. This book was action packed from the start. It jumped right into Jarvis starting with investigation Rocky’s death and going from there. He just takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I couldn’t put the book down. I felt like I was sucked into the universe Jarvis Mann was in. R. Weir has does a really terrific job of bringing everything together.

This is the 8th book in the Jarvis Mann Detective series. Even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. However I think if it is read in order then the characters would all make sense in their connection to each other. This didn’t detract from this book for me in any way though. The author does an amazing job at keeping you hooked on the edge of your seat. With danger and suspense you are on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. I love a crime story and this one has an unsolved mysterious murder and an extremely dangerous element with the gang vibe. The author does an amazing job describing the gang element that you get an understanding about how dangerous that environment is. Even the people who help our detective are dangerous and questionable which makes you wonder how it will work out and if our Dectetive Mann can solve this case without losing his life.

Mann in the Crossfire: A Jarvis Mann Hardboiled Detective Mystery Novel by R. Weir is the eighth book in the Jarvis Mann Mystery series. It is probably best to read this series in order so that you get full enjoyment however the book can be read as a stand-alone. I loved that this book really was a fast past, action packed story that felt like w true crime mystery. The author knew just how to keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through and constantly guessing as to what might happen. It takes a lot for a series to reach this number of books and based on what I just read I can see this series being fantastic for many more books to come. I hope that we get to see more from this detective as the whole series is just fantastic.

As a first-time reader of R. Weir’s Jarvis Mann Detective Series, I was very please with this book. I enjoyed that I did not have to read the previous books to understand what was going on, but I will for sure be reading the other books in the series. R. Weir did not fail to deliver an outstanding tale and this book, an action-packed thriller, suspense filled, intrigued crime story is what he did best. The twists and turns that are found in the plot, kept me on the edge of my seat, that I just couldn’t put it down to find out what was going to happen next, am amazing and definite page turner until the very end. I will continue to read and follow this series. I was totally invested in this book. Totally awesome and amazing read!
The ending has you wondering if Jarvis is going to be hanging up his detective gloves…

As a first-time reader of the Jarvis Mann Detective Series, I was very pleased to discover that R. Weir is a true-crime author. I love the twists and turns that are found in the plot. The characters are great, especially Jarvis.

Jarvis Mann Private Detective is back with another case to solve, but first he has to serve papers to a cheating husband, who does not take kindly to the event, he is a minor celebrity and thinks that the world owes him, but Jarvis takes him down a couple of pegs and makes him see sense, especially when he can call multiple witnesses who can back up his side of the event. While he is staking the place out, he receives a visit from a past associate and is given some news he finds sad and distressing about a guy he worked with from time to time in the past who had been through some tragedy of his own, it turns out that he has been murdered while working on something and in a most similar fashion to another event in his life, so Jarvis takes the case on to find out what happened to him and more importantly why, so he goes to tie up some loose ends with the soon to be ex wife, packs a bag and takes a late morning flight out to San Diego so he can make a start.
He leaves the airport, rents a car and checks into his hotel, all his expenses are going to be paid, so he doesn’t have to worry about running low on money, so when he is all settled in, he heads to an appointment he has made with one of the local cops to take stock on what he knows and shares information he has, he wants to be able to work with the local law enforcement and not step on toes too much, but this cop is friendly and more than happy to work together with him on the case. The next meeting he has is with his associate’s former boss, it is purely to ask a couple of questions and double down on the information he already has, as well as to read his body language while the questions are asked and answered. The meeting goes as expected and afterwards he goes to the scene of a past crime to talk to the neighbours and see if he can glean any more information before checking in with the cop to share what he has found. This all leads to one person, but unfortunately, Jarvis and his cop friend end up encroaching on gang territory and they are not happy to see them or having them dig around in their business, however, they come out of the encounter clean and tidy, but not without a warning to stay away. Jarvis wants to talk to the leader of the gang about the reactions he saw as they were driving away, so he tries to set up a meeting to see what he can glean.
In the meantime, he has discovered that he has a tail and when he confronts the individual, it turns out that it is another Private Detective who is looking into him, but the details are sketchy and Jarvis isn’t sure he believes what he is hearing, but he doesn’t have much time to think on it when he tries to follow more leads and lands in hot water, this time, however, he doesn’t come out unscathed and is sent back to Denver in a world of hurt, but with more information than when he started. As he recovers and returns to San Diego, Jarvis is determined to discover who is behind everything, but he also realises that he may be in over his head and has to call grudgingly for reinforcements, but the ones he has to call could make things easier and harder all at the same time, but which way the pendulum will swing is anyone’s guess, but will he be able to find the answers he is seeking, or will he get caught in a crossfire which is not of his own making? This is a thrilling mystery with twists, turns, secrets and revelations throughout which will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout as you try to solve the mystery at the same time.

This is an author that I have loved reading from the first book I picked up by him. This is the eighth book in the series and it is just as awesome as the previous books. I highly suggest reading the previous books in this series to help your enhancement of Javis Mann. This is a well written story that pulled me in from the beginning. This is a fast paced story that is full of action that kept me turning pages to the end. The characters are connectable and brought the story to life. My favorite is Jarvis. The is a strong, determined character that makes the story fun and entertaining to read. He is back on another case that could just be his last. I won’t say much more as I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens to him. This is a must read book and an author you will love.

“I had rarely encountered gangs in my private detective dealings, but they didn’t sound much different than any other criminal organization. Conflicts between parties within would arise, with challenges to authority bringing changes in the structure, often violently. I needed to find answers, but treading cautiously was warranted around men like these, or I might end up a casualty.”
Mann in the Crossfire is the seventh book in the Jarvis Mann Detective series by R. Weir. I absolutely love this series and have followed it right from the beginning. I thought the last book was the best of the bunch, but Mr. Weir upped the ante with this story, making it my favourite, so far. The series really does get better and better with each new instalment. The ending of this book gave me a few heart palpitations though- please don’t let this be the last we hear from Jarvis Mann!!! Mr. Weir, Jarvis (and I) neeeeed more instalments (hint, hint 😊)!!! As with the rest of the series, this is a gripping hardboiled detective mystery- Jarvis being a PI means there’s never a dull moment. With murder, crime and investigation, danger, hidden agendas, gangs, drama, adventure, action, violence, quips, multi-layers, and complex characters- all wrapped up with a bit of a noir detective story feel. Bring on Book #8 (pretttty pleasssse)!

R. Weir never fails to deliver an outstanding tale and this book, Mann in the Crossfire: A Jarvis Mann Hardboiled Detective Mystery Novel (Jarvis Mann Detective Book 8) is no exception. An action-packed thriller, crime story is what he does best. In this installment Jarvis finds himself in the crossfire and in more trouble that he has ever been in before. Just who can he trust? Is it old friends and acquaintances? Or is it the women who throw themselves at him and stab him in the back in his next breath? Certainly, couldn’t be those ensconced in the underworld, could it?

I live in the Mile-High City with my wife and dog, where the Rocky Mountain High isn’t always achieved with an herbal substance. When not glued to the computer for work and writing, I relax by enjoying the outdoors; doing yard work and traveling with my wife in our motorhome wherever the wind takes us. My writing delves into genres with gritty investigators exploring mystery, crime, suspense, and thrills, with involved plots and unexpected twists. Featuring former US Marshal Hunter Divine, a dire, determined man searching for salvation in his broken life. While private eye Jarvis Mann is tough and resourceful, with as many faults as virtues. My characters exhibiting traces of my sense of humor, though I’m not nearly as tough and fearless as they are. Though no evil stands a chance against my written word!
