Return of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 1) by Heidi Vanlandingham – Review by Karen Pearman

Return of the Elf LordReturn of the Elf Lord by Heidi Vanlandingham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a wonderfully written fantasy story by a new author to me. I was intrigued by the book cover and the title which was reminiscent to me of “Lord of the Rings”. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but I’m glad that I decided to read this story. I couldn’t put it down! I am especially fond of Norse mythology, and this delivered just that. She did a fabulous job with her mythology knowledge built into a World War II era. There is a lot of romance mixed into the action and history, but her weaving of the information throughout the book was perfect. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a penchant for fantasy, action, and romance. You won’t be disappointed.

This is the first book I have read from this author and she now has a new fan. I’m starting to get addicted to historical romance due to books like this. I was hooked on this story right from the beginning. You can’t help but fall in love with these characters. It only took me a few hours to devour this book. I can’t wait to see what this amazing author will write next.

Penny is a slave to a family that treats her as their own. One day a man comes to the house and she is attracted to him. She feels like she has a connection to this stranger but she doesn’t know why. Penny is then sold to Falcon to pay off a family debt. She is shocked that the man she keeps thinking about is her master. They get to know one another and they find it’s more than just ownership between them. Will Penny find her true love or will she just be the help?

I have to be honest and say I wasn’t sure about Sophie when I very first started the book but the author soon showed me the error of my ways! that is what a great author does right?
While working on her latest movie Sophie becomes friends with her leading man Guillaume or G as she calls him. Both Sophie and G want more but fight that attraction until the movie finishes. Are they or aren’t they together now?? Sophie is in need of a break from all the negative sides of her famous life so G talks her into taking a break by going with him to his family farm in France. That’s where the fun really starts! G’s family is querky ok, ok they are crazy but totally loveable!! lol Battling Life, Love and all the craziness around them Sophie and G will take you on a rollercoaster ride that’s for sure!

Once I got going this one is hard to put down. There is a lot of push pull and ups and downs. I kept reading wondering “will they or won’t they?” The characters are delightful. While I enjoy the growth of each of the main characters the secondary characters added so much life to this story. It was interesting to see inside Sophie’s head and her thoughts on the business and fans. Gil…I really went through many emotions with him. At times I did not like him and other times he was super!

Overall this is a quick addicting read. Good character development and it has a nice flow.

This new adult romance is a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. The chemistry between the characters is strong. The story is about finding just who you are, being opened to falling in love and letting someone in enough to love you for you. Mixed Emotions is definitely an apt name for the series.
Gil is very afraid of commitment, but Sophie now finds herself in the country in France facing down a llama but not just any llama no this is the grumpiest llama ever and let’s not forget the angry goats.
I’m not sure how I felt about it.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this fantasy adventure. The author does an amazing job with her characters making them seem real as well as the world they live in. I like the outline of people wanting to change history and the consequences of doing so. We all at some point wish we could change things that have happened in the past but this book really makes you think of the effect on the present.

Bernard was a soldier after losing his parents and the his wife and children to the war he is desperate to rewrite history and save them. Little does he realise what changing history and saving his family does to the present day of the world.

Alva has also lost people in her life. After losing her father she became estranged from her mother after she refuses to follow their ancient ways. This refuses leads her into trouble and with her partner starting the count down to the end of all worlds she is now in a race against time to save everything world.

Alva joins up with Bernard and together with the goddess Freyja and other helpers then set out on a mission to put history back in place and to stop the world’s from ending. The question is will the do it in time or is the world as they know it doomed.

Sophie and Gil were made for each other. I just couldn’t put this book down once I started it. The connection between Sophie and Gil is so obvious from the very beginning of this book. They’re so comfortable with each other that it’s only natural that the chemistry between them will be so intense too. These two are just so perfect for each other and their nicknames are just the cutest! But, so many obstacles keep getting in their way. It’s a journey full of twists and turns where I just wasn’t sure what would happen next, but the ending made me want to jump up and down with happiness. This is an incredible book that you won’t want to miss and I can’t wait to read the next ones in this series.

I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would! I was a little hesitant when I first started it but all I have to say is wow! What an amazing story! You truly don’t know someone. This story takes you on a steamy ride with Ian and Grace. It will keep you turning pages to learn Ian’s secret. It is definitely not what you are expecting. This book has some secrets you won’t believe! Loved this book and really loved the story line and reading from both characters perspectives.

(Un)Loved is the first book in the Mixed Emotions series by Katy Hunter. This is the first book I have read from Ms. Hunter, so I was not sure of what to expect from the story. But the title and the blurb intrigued me enough to want to find out what lay in store between the covers.
This is a new adult contemporary romance, with some push-pull, drama, family dynamics, and a little humour. While I did like the premise of the story and enjoyed it for the most part- I found the story a little slow to get going and found it difficult to connect with the characters, particularly Sophie. She frustrated me, badly- and her inner dialogue drove me crazy. So it took me a while to ‘get into’ the story and find my groove with it. Maybe it is just me having a bad book day, so I will revisit this book again soon and reread it to see if I still feel the same way.
Looking forward to seeing what else Ms. Hunter can do.
Happy reading!

Thank you, Katy Hunter!

Behemoth (Grimm Wolves MC Book 1) by D.M. Earl – Review by Rosanna Ingram

Behemoth: Grimm Wolves MC Series Book 1Behemoth: Grimm Wolves MC Series Book 1 by Karen Hrdlicka
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Francis, known as Stitch to his MC brothers, has a past that would give people nightmares. When he isn’t working at the fire station, or doing something with the club, he lives the life of a nomad at his cabin. A routine field trip at the fire station is going to change his life forever.

Grace is a nurse and single mom. When her son, Damien, comes home after a field trip and can’t stop talking about the fireman who so so kind to him, she knows she needs to find a way to thank him. Little does she know that this one decision will set in motion a chain of events that will change everything. When she finally meets Francis face-to-face, she is torn because while she finds him attractive, her past has made her very wary of anyone associated with a MC.

There is so much going on in this book…lust, love, revenge, protectiveness, loyalty, and family. I enjoyed the relationship between Grace and Francis and between Francis and Damien. I would love to read more about their bond and the similarities they share. There were also plenty of members of the MC that I would enjoy reading more about. Overall, a good book that I enjoyed reading!

A Bride for Noah (Brides of Broken Arrow #1)A Bride for Noah by Cheryl Wright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Bride for Noah is such a sweet and wholesome love story! As stated in his fathers will, for Noah to keep/inherit his fathers land he must get married. Mary is trying to escape her home situation. She has been unloved, uncared for and underfed. Now, her father wants to get rid of her by marrying her off to a horrible man. She responds to Noah’s ad for a mail order bride and they set up a contract for one year. Although there is chemistry between the two of them, will it last through the contract? Will they stay together? Will this marriage of convenience work out for this sweet couple? I won’t spoil it, you’ll have to read it yourself. Trust me you will enjoy it! I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to read such a pure, sweet, and innocent romance story. Love it so much and can’t wait for the next one!

This wasn’t my favorite book. The writing wasn’t bad, and it could have been a decent story, it just wasn’t for me. To be completely honest I felt uncomfortable reading this one. Reading about slavery is hard enough but something about this one just rubbed me the wrong way. The author’s writing style isn’t bad, but the grammar (whether that’s how it was in the 1800s I’m not sure) kept throwing me off and I just couldn’t get a good grasp on this one. I really hope the next book I read from this author is better, because I really liked her writing style, just not this story. It just wasn’t the book for me.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a good 5 star read.
This was my first read from this author and I really enjoyed it.
Sophie and G are an on screen couple that are dealing with some off screen attraction as well. G invites Sophie to go home to France with him to his family farm and she takes him up on his offer. Having been an actress from a very young age this could be the break that she desperately needs. Needless to say that there are things that come up that cause some drama as Sophie and G work through their feelings. Sophie really likes his family, they were great.

Overall this was a read that had my emotions all over the place with everything these two were dealing with. I did have some LOL moments as well. All of the characters were great. Both Sophie and G grew on me as their story progressed. Learning about Sophie’s past really gives a glimpse at what some of these young Hollywood stars deal with. The author did a great job of pulling you in with her writing. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. 1-click and get started today.

Magdoline has given us as readers a unique story that is full of torment. It is one story that you need to read without having any idea about it before going in. To describe it does not do it just with the way the author has twined this complex tale. The plot is clever and different. You become intrigued with the story and the world in which you are invited to become a part of. It’s one of those stories that you want to skip ahead to find out how it all ends and let me tell you the ending is one I did not expect.
It is a surprising tale with a mysterious man, hidden dark secrets, someone you will love to hate and hate to love and one woman who doesn’t know what she is in for.

Sophie and Gil are both movie stars. They have just finished up a movie together where they were the lead male and female roles. The chemistry between them on and off screen is strong. Gil asks Sophie (Shee) to go home with him to visit his family in France. Their relationship takes on new levels, but Gil is very afraid of commitment for reasons I will not say (but you do find out why in the book). Gil’s family really pulls Shee in as a part of their family and shows her what a family is supposed to be like. Her own family cares very little about her and they haven’t seen each other since Shee was a young teen. I really enjoyed this book, it was very cute and the side characters were great. Reading about a city girl on a farm in France will make just about anyone laugh out loud I would imagine. It ended the way it should and I can’t wait to read the next one!

This is the first book in this Christian historical romance trilogy set in the early 1900’s in America. This is also my first book by this author. I didn’t read the first series but managed to get through this tale just fine. There are inspirational themes throughout the story along with some drama and twists and turns. The characters are likeable and have a strong family backing when things turn for the worse. Despite being from different classes in life and prejudice they find love. It is interesting and easy-to-read.

Seven Strengths: A Tale from Turaset (The Industrial Age) by P.L. Tavormina – Review by Elizabeth Sanchez

Seven Strengths: A Tale from TurasetSeven Strengths: A Tale from Turaset by P.L. Tavormina
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Seven Strengths: A Tale from Turaset is a prequel to the Industrial Age trilogy. It is the first I have read, but likely will continue reading. It took me a while to get into the story, as the first 1/3 or so wasn’t that interesting to me. After the groundwork was set, then I started to get hooked. It is a short story, that I read in a day or two. It tells the coming of age story of Celeste, in another time. Celeste is raised in the foothills, with limited technology, no electricity or cars, etc. Her life is filled with hard work and she longs to go to the City’s and see how the other half lives. She finally gets her wish, and attends school for two years, experiencing city life, both good and bad. When she returns back home for a quick trip, she is able to compare the two “lives” she’s been living. Earning a greater understanding to both lives, and weigh her options. Her family has secret powers, which may put her families lives at risk. The book ends in somewhat of a cliff hanger, and I look forward to seeing what comes next for Celeste and her friends and family.

It was quite the busy read and had a lot of story in it but this author did a fab job of keeping things pretty organized and my attention honed while I read. I liked that things were not always sunshine and roses for the characters like life so often is as it made the book not only relatable but real and believable. I for sure will be back to see what will happen next because I feel like this book was definitely ended in a way more will be coming and I will be definitely checking out this author’s other works soon as well!

A gripping romance story that draws you into every character that crosses the page.
I really liked this novel, it is right up my alley. Romance, adventure and humour!
The characters are well developed throughout, and my favourite character has got to be ‘Tornado’ (no spoilers!).

The reason for the 4 stars is because, for me, I enjoy cliff hangers throughout stories – which I thought this one was a tiny bit lacking. Additionally, the ending was a bit predictable, but abrupt – each to their own.

(Un)Loved seems to be a one-off story, but there is definitely room for the story to continue. I also think this would make an amazing Christmas film adaptation!

This book is such a heartwarming and emotional story in a way I completely didn’t expect. I thought it would be a great story about a kid navigating his worries while balancing school. I wouldn’t consider this a fast paced read but I felt like the storyline was strong with well developed characters. I really connected with Sophia and liked the growth I saw in her. The way the story was written from Sophia’s perspective really helped me connect with her, often feeling like I was chatting with a close friend. This is a sweet romance story by a new author for me. I enjoyed her writing style and her ability to pull me into the story from the beginning. Her attention to details not only made her story realistic but also made the characters pop. This is a story about Sophie and Gil. She never expected to fall for him but that is not the only thing she has going on for her. Will she find what she wants to do with her life? What will fate have in store for her and Gil? There is alot going on in this story but the author did a great job of keeping my attention. I enjoyed the growth of the characters and their chemistry. I thought this book was well written. I enjoyed the book for the most part. I did feel like the book moved alittle slow and found it hard to keep me interested. I liked the characters. I thought it was a little off how he invited her to come to his parents. In my mind, I figured She would’ve left within the first 3 days. Gil and Sophia are just friends. They were co-stars who have been very close while filming. Is there a chance they can become more? Or will they just become very good friends ?

Gil and Sophie Smith. Sophie character felt flat to me she had no substance to her. Gil his character annoyed me no one is that perfect. It irrated me to even read about him.
I would say this is aimed at young teenagers. I felt like this was more a a dairy than a book just in the way the text came across. The trip was a nice element but Sophie seem to not be able to handle herself given her job title. You want this be willing to expect consequence and things to happen with your actions. Unfortunately I didn’t connect to this book at all.

What 7th grader doesn’t hope for that perfect school year, but worries so much about it at the same time? This book is not usually my forte but I went out on a limb and tried it and I really liked it! This was the type of book that every middle schooler needs to read! It would teach them so much about how kids are different, the challenges they face, and having friends in middle school!

The story really made my heart ache for some characters while they deal with their own struggles, but at the same time it is heartwarming because in the end, Route realizes things are not always what they seem.

My favorite quote in this entire book was, “we all need distraction” from Grace! I highly recommend reading this book, it was an adorable, uplifting novel!

Deacon Saint

My father told me once that anything that gets your blood racing is worth the risk doing. I didn’t factor in that I have to face the tragic loss of my best friend, discover that my mother has Alzheimer and come face to face with a girl who broke my heart all those years ago.

Yet, coming back to my hometown in Tennessee—after being gone for ten years—leaving behind a racing career in the MotoGP world, I’d have to deal with the trials set before me in this small town. I’d rather take on the track, lose skin, break bones, and tear muscle than to make the decision that’ll change my life forever.

Olivia Bane

I thought my life is perfect. Working as a nurse, a boyfriend who’s a doctor, and friends I cherish dearly. Then, the second Deacon Saint comes back home, my ideal life shifts to utter chaos. My boyfriend turns out to be a jerk, I almost lose my job and I’m faced with losing my heart again to the man that broke into the first place.

Deacon shattered me before he left our town and now he thinks it’s water under the bridge and is determined to reclaim my heart. It’s going to take more than sweet talkin’, fast motorcycles, and good old Southern country charm to win me back.
