We have all driven through a small town in which we do not feel welcome. This is that story. This story is almost 400 pages as well. It kept my attention and made you physically tense. It also made me turn the light on that stands next to my bed.

What a great time of the year to read this book. Midnight Falls is about werewolves, shifters, monsters, suspense, survival, evil, and a good all-around horror book. It kind of gives off the old 1980s horror vibe. The author has a descriptive way of telling the story that keeps you engaged throughout the whole book and takes you on a wild ride. I liked all of the characters, but I think my favorite character was Josh’s dog Nimrod.

Josh returns home after several disappointments growing up only to find his new home isn’t what it seems. Small towns are always slow to welcome newcomers but this town has it’s own secrets to be discovered. Moving in to a small town 10 years ago we have always had our own outsider experiences so this book is relatable; however, I’m grateful that those lurking in our town aren’t looking at us like a meal. This book was well written and kept me engaged. The vivid details were like watching a horror movie in the middle of the night then trying to sleep!

Josh Blevins had high hopes and big dreams of being a writer, however, when he took his adorable husky and headed off to college at NYU, things didn’t quite go as planned and because of this and other bad luck, he had to head back home. Unfortunately for Josh, he cannot stay with his parents forever and instead ups sticks again and moves to Midnight Falls, another small town to settle into a less busy life.
At first, everything seems to be going well, he finds a job writing for the local paper and makes friends with his neighbours, all while fixing up his rental and meeting a young woman who makes him feel safe. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy to make his acquaintance and he soon becomes caught in the gaze of the local Sheriff and not in a good way. He seems to be the recipient of pranks, side eyes and whispers whenever he visits one of the local premises and gets the feeling that he is being constantly watched, but things soon escalate and secrets which were long buried bubble to the surface.
The town has the usual lack of appreciation of those who are not local, those who are different and those who don’t conform to the norm of a mid-western small town, but these secrets are bloody and dangerous, haunting and beastly and as he becomes more of an outsider than any local should be, the mask starts to slip and Josh begins to see what lies beneath, but what will happen when the town finds out that he suspects what the dark secrets truly are and will he survive long enough to reconcile with it? This is a fantasy horror which leads you down the rabbit hole of small town life and attitudes into the warren of secrets and lies which lie beneath it in this fast paced and gripping tale.

This is a small town where everyone knows one another and outsiders aren’t very welcome. Although he grew up in Midnight Falls he is treated as if he had never lived there at all. He befriends his neighbors and even gets himself a girlfriend. One night as things were starting to get steamy for the couple, Josh saw red eyes staring at them through the window and then heard gun shots. Outside was a creature that he had never seen before. What was it? Where did it come from? Midnight Falls holds many secrets and there are people that don’t ever want them to see the light of day. If you’re into spooky this will be right up your alley.

Midnight Falls by John Evans was a uniquely horrifying read. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, as I am not familiar with this author. I was pleasantly surprised, and drawn in by the authors writing style. The prologue was intense, and set the table for the entire thing, keeping you entertained and on the edge of your seat with every turn of a page. I was genuinely enthralled the deeper I got into this story, and couldn’t help binge reading it. I look forward to seeing more from John Evans in the future!

Josh Blevins is tired of being hunted by creatures out for revenge. He has decided enough is enough and is done running. Before he goes out with a bang, he decides to write his story. We are then transported back to the beginning of the end for Josh.
After he fails at his career plans, Josh decides to move back home. After living in New York in a small apartment, he thinks it is time for him and his trusty husky, Nimrod, to go back to his country roots. He settles into a life in the small town of Midnight Falls. Everything seems calm and dull but in reality, it’s a town filled with secrets.
Being an outsider, Josh has no one he can trust except for Nimrod and a few other outsiders; Lizzie, Joey and Brad. Things start heating up between Josh and Lizzie when Nimrod gets outside and there is a gunfire sound. They come across a creature they have never seen before and it all goes downhill from there.
I was afraid this would not be my jam as I don’t normally read horror (I scare easily) but the cover intrigued me. I am a fan of werewolves and the monsters resemble them. I found the book to be more like a thriller than horror which was perfectly fine by me. The author did an amazing job bringing the characters to life and keeping you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. I also loved the detail the author went into writing Nimrod. He was so goofy and stubborn. It reminded me of my dog who is part husky. She is also a stubborn goofball.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first page until the last. Suspense is personally a lot for me to handle, but if you like that feeling, this is the book for you. The writing is clear and easily understood, great descriptions of the environment and scenes, as if you are there.

Midnight Falls by John Evans is a great horror book
Josh Blevins reluctantly settles back in his little hometown with his devoted dog by his side following a string of setbacks and blunders during his time in college. Despite feeling like a failure and at a crossroads in his life, he has met new people and even fallen in love. However, the charming exterior of Midnight Falls that he recalled from his youth conceals a malevolent force. One that reaches far deeper and more terrifying depths than the hate that is carved in the streets and festers within the boundaries. Anyone can be a monster hiding behind a façade of friendliness.
Every page had you hanging on every sentence and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique story with even compelling people. The story really transports you into this world. I couldn’t put the book down.

This was a gripping horror with twists and turns that I couldn’t see coming. It was a very unique read and had me thinking of old horror movies with plenty of jump scares along the way. The authors writing style is descriptive which really brought the creatures to life for me. As I read you also got to feel the tension, isolation and fear that our main character goes through in this story. When Josh returns home and settles into a little town called Midnight Falls, he feels he maybe able to start and rebuild his life. However things aren’t that easy. Right from the start he is treated as an outcast and has the constant feeling of being watched. Of course having a run in with the towns Sheriff and his son didn’t help him any in winning over the town. But there is something more. Something dark and dangerous that lurks in the town and around the people their. Something that could turn deadly. Now Josh finds himself in a situation he can’t really understand or comprehend. All he knows is that the towns people aren’t what and who they seem and that by uncovering this secret he may have signed his death warrant. Will he escape the town of Midnight Falls or will his discovery change the course of his life forever.
This story was gripping and I couldn’t put it down. It had everything you would want from a horror read.

This book really kept me on the edge and was a real page turner, I couldn’t put it down, I needed this book. This book really flowed really well with the story and was so easy to follow and really get into the story line. This book was filled with the unknown, secrets, werewolves, danger, suspense, thrills and chills, and horror. A small town with its secrets that don’t like newcomers and try to push them away. John is a wonderful, developed character that this story really made it feel like you know him. this was an incredible read that I can’t wait for more.

I wasn’t sure how much I would like this story when I first chose to read it. The prologue sucked me right in and I couldn’t put it down. Midnight falls was full of horror, action and thrills. The author did a great job creating this town and telling the story. I cannot wait to read more from him.

Midnight Falls by John Evans is an incredibly detailed page turner. The descriptions and imagery are out of this world without being excessive. This was a perfect book to get your pulse racing and keep you on the edge of your seat, from start to finish, epilogue included. I really enjoyed the flow and strong writing but my favorite part is the author’s note and the bonus content at the end of the kindle version. I would certainly read more from this author in the future.

Midnight Falls was the perfect prelude into spooky season. We meet our main character, Josh, at the end of the story as he sets up the tale for us. There are creatures unknown and secrets in a small town. As we reach the climax, your heart rate is definitely running rampant. The writing gives off Grady Hendrix vibes in a wonderful way. If you aren’t a big horror reader, this is a great introduction.

This was one of the most intense books I have read in quite a while. It had me on the edge of my seat and cringing in bed at night, I had no clue what could happen next. The setting primarily takes place in one of those spooky old towns where everyone knows everyone else, and if you are an outsider, you are not welcome. The neighbors are all real creepy like they are all out to drive out any who are not a part of some big secret that only those from town know. The things that happened to our main character, Josh, had me looking over my shoulder at night, I was so jumpy at every little noise. I love finding a book that can have such an intense powerful reading experience. John Evans did an amazing job in writing Midnight Falls; I must say I cannot wait to read more of his books. I hope if you are into intense thrillers or horrors then you will give this book a read, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you do. Midnight Falls is a gripping psychological horror thriller that is full of tension, mystery, intrigue, suspense, danger, and werewolves. It is the first book that I have read by this author, but it certainly will not be the last. I was pulled into the story from the first few pages and the suspense kept me hooked until the end. The story is set in the small town of Midnight Falls and centers around the MC of Josh, who has recently returned to his sleepy little hometown. Instead of finding peace and tranquility he quickly realizes that he cannot trust anyone, that some have deep seated grudges against him, and that something sinister lurks in the shadows. Josh is a relatable character who is battling between his own feelings of inadequacy, feeling like a failure, and confronting his personal inner demons as well as the very real evil that lurks in the shadows. Looking forward to reading more by this talented author!

Midnight Falls is considered a horror suspense story about a man named Josh. Josh was going to school in NY to become a writer and after a handful of missed opportunities decided to return home. Home is in Midnight Falls, a small town where they do not take kind to outsiders. While Josh is not technically an outsider, he is treated as such. He is lost about what he wants to do and where life is going, but what he wants is to be left alone to live with his dog. In a small town, this is not an easy task and he quickly “befriends” his 2 neighbors and the girl down the street, Lizzie. Although he tries to mind his business, there is a group of awful teenagers always trying to cause trouble. After a run-in with one of these boys, the boy ends up dead, and weird things start to happen. Josh, Lizzie, and his neighbors try to understand what is happening in their town and are also trying to decide what to do about it. Does this town really hold such crazy secrets? Can Josh and them save his town from the mystery? This was probably not one of my favorite horror suspense stories. I didn’t like the main character, I thought Josh was a coward, bitter, and sort of a low life who can’t get his stuff together. There was also a lot of build-up to a not-so-secret suspense story. I thought much of the story I was able to predict what was happening so the suspense wasn’t there for me. The only thing I did not predict was where each of the characters would end up and how open for interpretation some of the ending was.

When life takes a turn for the worst Josh finds his way to a small town where things are not what they seem. Soon Josh discovers the evil that lurks in the shadows.
This is an interesting tale about monsters in the night. Although the storyline is an engaging idea, I found the pacing a bit slow. It was nice to see Josh and his few friends band together to figure everything out. I would have liked to see the supporting characters a bit more fleshed out, as it was the relationship that Josh has with his dog is what made the most impression on this reader.

This was a crazy wild book; like modern-day monsters crazy! Josh returns to his hometown after several failures at trying to make it in the big city. Only he feels more like an outsider than ever. Strange things are happening and Josh feels like he’s the only one to notice. Soon he and only a few close acquaintances realize the evil that has been hiding right under their noses for decades. Great horror story!

I wasn’t far into the prologue when I knew I needed to clear my schedule. The whole time though the first chapters I was on edge, wanting more backstory and yet knowing what was coming because of the prologue. Knowing there would be action made the backstory, at times, painstakingly slow. But I was invested. I loved seeing Josh and Lizzie getting to know one another. I enjoyed how Joey & Brad bonded with Josh in their own ways, finding reasons to band together to create their own group of outsiders that didn’t necessary belong in town. I was obsessed with Nimrod and his antics, loving every description of him.

Josh Blevins has left college to return home with his dog Nimrod. He works as a freelance writer and moves into his new home. Josh soon discovers that there is something very wrong in Midnight Falls. Now Josh has to decide whether to run away or fight. Midnight Falls was a very chilling and engaging story. I enjoyed the author’s style of writing. His descriptive language helps engulf you in the atmosphere. Mr. Evans does a great job of creating a dark background reminiscent of a horror movie. There was a nice variety of characters and I enjoyed Josh’s relationship with all of them. This is a great book for those who enjoy old-school horror.

Midnight Falls by John Evans. This is a super dark vampire thriller that will keep you turning pages late in the night. I do admit I got a little scared reading this at night and I loved it! Its the story of Josh who has chosen to move to Midnight Falls and he got a job as a freelance writer for the local newspaper. He becomes quick friends with his neighbors Joey and Brad as they are new to Midnight Falls as well. Josh starts to settle in even finds himself a girlfriend, Lizzie. The only problem he really has is the sheriffs son, Jarrod who wanted to buy Josh’s car and Josh told him no. He doesn’t seem to take kindly to being told no and the Sheriff even threatens Josh. Josh also has his faithful companion Nimrod his dog and Nimrod has saved Josh more than once. I really enjoyed this book. It was scary at times but also had a great storyline! This was my first read by this author but it won’t be my last!

3.5 – 4 stars “Midnight Falls” is a dark and interesting horror narrative that delves into the chilling world of werewolves, and I found it to be an intriguing read. I have not read any of Jonh’s work before and I was pleasantly surprised. His descriptive words take you into the story and have you easily imagining the scenes he sets. The story centres around Josh, a disillusioned college student who returns to his quaint hometown. However, upon his arrival, Josh quickly senses an air of malevolence permeating the town, he grapples with feeling like an outcast in his own community, Josh is confronted with the difficult decision of either confronting the looming menace or turning his back on it all. This book has the feel of horror of old when true horror was around. I wholeheartedly recommend “Midnight Falls” to fellow enthusiasts of the horror genre; it’s a well-crafted and absorbing narrative, and I find myself eagerly anticipating the unravelling of further books.

This was the first book by this author, but I couldn’t pass it up after the cover caught my attention. After reading the synopsis, I knew I had to dive in immediately. I’m a huge fan of the horror and thriller genres which meant this was right up my alley. Throw in a paranormal twist and I’m in heaven! From the very beginning, the author subtly drew me in and before I knew it I was reading the last page. I couldn’t put it down because I had to know what was going to happen. The plot is expertly crafted with twists and turns woven seamlessly throughout. No matter how well I thought I had it nailed down, the author threw another surprise curve at me! I don’t want to give away any spoilers but will say that this was a magnificently dark book. I have already recommended this book to all of my old school horror-loving friends. If you enjoy a suspenseful thriller with a paranormal theme, I highly recommend giving this book a chance. I can’t wait to pick up more work by this author!

I’m not a big fan of horror thrillers but I found this to be a real page turner. Josh and his loyal dog return to his small hometown after some disappointments and mishaps at college. However, Midnight Falls is not the pleasant town he remembers from his childhood. Josh feels like an outsider now and there is a sinister evil feel about the place. He believes there is something dark and chilling going on and doesn’t know who he can trust. Josh is also ‘butting heads’ with the sheriff who seems to have a grudge against him. As Josh is deciding whether to stay or run, the monster lurking in the dark might not let him live long enough to make his decision. This story had a sinister and chilling atmospheric feel to it, which made me feel immersed in the storyline. The plot kept me hooked and I felt the characters and setting came to life through the descriptive narrative.

I was hooked from the beginning and had a hard time putting this down. I loved Evan’s writing style and the pacing of the book was fantastic. He really allows you to get a feel for the characters and pulls you into the story and before you realize it, it’s the wee hours of the night and you’ve got to get some sleep! I loved the dark, creepiness of the tone and the downright scariness of it as well. There are so many twists and turns throughout this story that you don’t see coming. This is the perfect read for spooky season so get your copy now!

This book was really good. Josh returns home to Midnight Falls to work freelance for the local paper. He makes friends with his neighbors and gets a girlfriend Lizzie. Josh’s dog Nimrod is really upset he bust through the door and they look at the window and see this thing with glowing red eyes. The sheriff in town also has beef with Josh. It is very hard to know who to trust in that town. I’m looking forward to more from this author.
