Pharaoh’s Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mysteries Book 4) by Ellen Butler – Review by Erin Wolf

Pharaoh's Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4)Pharaoh’s Forgery by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Pharaoh’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4) by Ellen Butler, 5 stars.

I always forget just how good this series is until I start the next book and find myself unable to put it down. This book is no exception. I was pulled in from the very beginning. I like how they moved the location to another country. The change in setting was refreshing while still maintaining everything this series is know for. I liked how it was not all about DC and politics, now revolves around ancient relics. There is still a lot of adventure and twists and turns in the story, it is both thrilling and gripping.

Then there are the characters. Karina is great as always. She feels real, not always making the most popular decisions, but ones she feels strongly about. I like how we got to know more about her neighbor, Mrs. Thundermuffin. I could tell from previous books that she was definitely an interesting character and I was so great that the author told us so much more about her in this book. I also like how Rodrigo was more of a main character in this book too. Again, he seemed like an interesting character previously, but I had no idea just what he was made of. This book shows us.

If you like a thrilling mystery suspense with great characters and a gripping story, this book and series are for you. In my opinion, this can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading all of them since they are so good.

Pharaoh's Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4)Pharaoh’s Forgery by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pharaoh’s Forgery is the fourth book in Ellen Butler’s Karina Cardinal Mystery series and we are going on a short girls’ holiday to Mexico with Karina … or so we think! It is always a pleasure to meet up with Karina and her kooky circle of friends and the enemies, the enemies tend to take the cake, every time!
Karina is going to Cancun for some sun and margaritas while also dropping off a package to Mrs Thundermuffin and you can guess what she does … Karina opens the Pandora Box and off we go onto a crazy ride with kidnappers and murderers and conmen. It is really good that Karina has friends in right places as she really needs some help to get herself and her fellow lobbyist Rodrigo back home in one piece! I loved how the writer had used her extensive research into the Brazilian National Museum fire to bring alive the story so that we were biting our nails at times and probably praying to ourselves ‘please, please, please …’

Pharaoh’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation (Karina Cardinal Mystery #4) by Ellen Butler

Butler has this way of making you love her books. This is part of the Karina Cardinal Mystery Series and damn if it’s not a good one. You will want to read this even if you haven’t read the first 3.

Karina, K.C. as Mike calls her finds that she may be going on vacation alone. Her sister is down, her mom is taking care of Jill, and her boyfriend is working. Once on vacation she finds herself in trouble. The quote I chose for Karina is: “Not a word. Not a f***ing word.”

Mike, FBI Agent, has to work and feels bad about Karina going alone. He surprises her, but instead he’s the one who gets the surprise. He doesn’t like that she finds herself in trouble. The quote I chose for Mike is: “It’s Tuesday. Are you going to take Rick up on his offer?”

Highly recommended if you love crime, drama and romance.

Pharoah’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation by Ellen Butler is the fourth book in the Karina Cardinal Mystery series. This book can be read as a stand-alone although you might find it helpful to read the previous books first as it follows the same character throughout.
This book is yet another brilliant addition to this great series. It is always so good to get back into these characters and the adventures that seem to follow them everywhere. The story in this one is exciting and full of intrigued, just like I have come to expect.
The author is doing a brilliant job is creating a series that is not only lasting but still just as exciting this many books in. Each book just seems to get better. This is a great book and the whole series is one I would recommend!

Pharaoh's Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4)Pharaoh’s Forgery by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pharaoh’s Forgery is the fourth book in Ellen Butler’s Karina Cardinal Mystery series. Like in the previous books, the plot is driven by Karina’s impressive ability to get wrapped up in dangerous, mysterious crimes. Pharaoh’s Forgery combines exotic holiday (to Mexico, not Egypt as the title might suggest) with the theft and forgery of historical artefacts.
In this book, Karina draws on her growing network of friends and useful contacts to help her out with the trouble she inevitably finds herself in. I particularly enjoyed getting to spend some more time with Rodrigo, Karina’s charismatic co-worker, and Mrs Thundermuffin, her eccentric neighbour. It was fun having characters who feel like old friends around, and to learn more about them.
This is a great read for anyone missing going on holiday and exploring museums (and I imagine will be an enjoyable holiday read when we can travel again!). Butler does a good job of describing the places Karina visits, and we get plenty of time to enjoy the hotel (and the food! I was hungry just reading it!).
For me, this is a five-star read. It’s a really good series and I’m enjoying seeing Karina grow and develop as she gets used to the trouble that seems to follow her around and learns how to protect herself. It’s worth starting at the beginning, with Isabella’s Painting, to get to know Karina and meet some of the supporting characters.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pharaoh’s Forgery by Ellen Butler is the fourth book in the Karina Cardinal Mystery Book series. I recommend reading the books in order because of development to the characters and relationships, but this can be enjoyed as a standalone book. Karina is finally getting a well-deserved vacation away from D.C. Of course, as usual things don’t go as planned for Karina. This story has crime, thrills, mystery, laughs, and more. I always enjoy Karina’s adventures and her partners in getting her out of trouble and solving the case. Karina is smart, full of adventure, but also conscientious and not a detective. Trouble just seems to find her in the unlikeliest of places. I look forward to reading more in Karina’s mysteries in the future and more from this author.

Pharaoh’s Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mysteries Book 4) by Ellen Butler

Pharaoh’s Forgery is the fourth book in The Karina Cardinal Mysteries Series by Ellen Butler . I must say this is by far my favorite of this series. It’s a gripping mystery with twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Karina Cardinal is on her way to Cancun for a much needed vacation while there drop off a package. But what happens when the drop off doesn’t go as planned? I literally read this in one sitting I couldn’t put it down till I finished. I had to know how everything was going to play out. I highly recommend reading this book and if you haven’t already read the first three books I recommend reading them as well. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Dare Game (The Irish Garda Files Book 1) by Melinda Colt – Review by Angela Hayes

Dare GameDare Game by Melinda Colt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dare Game is the first book in The Irish Garda Files and debut novel by Melinda Colt. This is an exciting murder mystery- with detectives, investigation, cybercrime, a ‘deadly’ game, danger, emotion, intrigue, romance, second chances, family dynamics, and plenty of drama.
I was really impressed with this debut novel and how easily I became absorbed in all the developments. I love a good murder mystery/thriller- so I was hooked right from the beginning of this story with its multi-layered and complex web of intrigue.
The premise is quite original and well-woven, that’s not to say there weren’t a few minor issues such as a bit of repeated information and a few inconsistencies- but they were very minor and nothing that really detracted from my enjoyment of the book.
Detective Inspector John O’Sullivan is an Irish police detective who is called to a recent murder scene where things just don’t add up. It doesn’t take long before all the evidence seems to point to a serial killer. He will have to figure things out quickly if he’s to prevent another murder. But it takes a worried mother and her frightened daughter coming forward before there’s a real break in the case. What unravels makes for really gripping reading.
What a great start to a thrilling new series. It’s shaping up to be fantastic. Can’t wait to dive into Book Two- “Killer Score”.

Thank you, Melinda Colt!

This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. I enjoyed this suspenseful story. PI Farlow is back in this fast paced story. In this one he finds a FBI Agent shot and dying. Now he is determined to find his killer. You don’t want to miss these twists and turns that will leave you turning pages. This is a well developed story from beginning to end that does a great job of making you feel part of the story. I had no issues connecting to the characters as they brought the story to life. This made a great afternoon read which I highly recommend.

I love finding out what kind of predicament Karina is going to find herself in and I was given what I wanted in this story. This book can be read as a standalone but all of the books in this series are 5 star reads, so it is my suggestion that you read them all. There are always great characters in each book and this one had some of the characters from other books and we also got to meet new ones. This was a quick read for me because I couldn’t put it down until I found out what happens. I highly recommend this book. This author always does an exceptional job weaving a wonderful story full of unexpected twists and turns.

Pharoah’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation by Ellen Butler is book four of the Karina Cardinal Mystery series. You should definitely read this series in order because Karina finds herself on some pretty epic adventures and you wouldn’t want to miss any of it!

Karina has been in quite a few jams as Michael would say so a girls trip is a no brainer. Of course, Karina should have expected that it wouldn’t be that easy because of course she finds herself in another pickle. This book as well as the others in the series, do a great job of keeping you on your toes. You’re always wondering what happens next! I don’t want to give too much away about Karina’s newest mystery so I’ll just say, you always wonder what’s going to happen next!

The author does a great job of keeping you intrigued. You just have to know what going to happen next! I definitely recommend this book!

In this book we find Katrina going on a holiday to rest and recover. However when her neighbour asks her to bring a package for her to Mexico, Katrina’s peaceful holiday gets turned upside down.

With forgery, a ancient relic and a kidnapping can Katrina  solve this case and what is so appealing about the ancient relic that means someone is prepared to commit a crime for it.

I can’t even find words to describe how much I love this series. Not sure if it’s the characters and how they’re written, or their dialogue, or the storylines, or the fact I cant put the books down while I’m reading them. Even the drama and the edge of your seat danger has me completely hooked. I love Karina and have always said I want to be her friend and her sidekick in how she just falls into stuff and how she maneuvers her way through it all. Also, who knew Mrs Thundermuffin had so much more to her? I just loved this book so so much and it was a perfect addition to a favorite series from a favorite author. I seriously can not wait for a cold winter day to sit and read all these over again.

I just know this can’t be the end of this series, too many things left unanswered…Silverthorne Security being just one. I love these guys and how they “handle” Karina, this always makes me smile and a lot of time laugh out loud. Then there’s Mike…. I love Rodrigo, and his friendship with Karina is one of my favorite parts of these stories.

I truly just don’t know what to say except pick this series up..each I suppose could be read as a standalone but trust me when I say don’t do that… There’s history to these characters you absolutely don’t want to miss.

I LOVED IT and can not wait for more!!

I was really hopeful for this book. I was intrigued by the idea of the storyline. Sadly the story was stiff and unforgiving. The natural flow seemed lost and I struggled to stay involved in the characters or the story. The ending is expected, I would have loved more to bring me to care about the characters.

It is nice seeing Logan and Ben’s relationship progress. Also the update on her daughter and Liam.

Pharaoh’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4) by Ellen Butler is another superb suspense/mystery and a wonderful addition to this series. I can’t get enough of Karina and the situations she inadvertently finds herself in (reminds me of myself). In typical Karina fashion a simple fun and relaxing holiday turns out to be anything but and she soon finds frenemies coming out the woodwork. Slammed full of intrigue and mystery, I simply couldn’t put this book done until I finished the last page. I love the way Butler develops each story and the detail each book contains. I’ve been reading (and enjoying) a lot of books outside of my normal genre as of late. This was a great read and a bit more of what I gravitate toward.
This was my first book I have read by this author and much to my pleasant surprise, a first in a series.
This is one of those books that has characters that you find yourself growing attached to. I found myself intrigued from start to finish as a Dead Man Speaks has elements of a good mystery/thriller. The idea of the victim taking part in solving his own murder is fantastic to me! While there is an obvious paranormal element to the story, I never felt like the author was reaching or that the twists and turns were over the top. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by Lisa Jones Gentry.

A DEAD MAN SPEAKS (A CLIVE JANUARY MYSTERY BOOK 1) by LISA JONES GENTRY – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

A Dead Man Speaks (A Clive January Mystery Book 1)A Dead Man Speaks by Lisa Jones Gentry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Dead Man Speaks is the first book in Lisa Jones Gentry’s Clive January Mystery series. The premise of the book is that the deceased Mr January can’t rest until his murder is solved and is able to communicate with Detective Bob Greene to help him. Which should really make the case easier for Greene except that what he gets from January are a series of powerful memories from throughout his life which send him chasing up all kinds of leads which may or may not have anything to do with January’s death.
The story takes a while to get going. For the first twelve chapters it feels like January’s life is flashing slowly before his eyes. This gives us a fair bit of backstory which is useful later on, but I think interspersing this with aspects of the murder investigation would have given the story a more momentum. It is worth persevering, though, as it is an interesting story and the pace and tension do pick up later in the book.
Detective Greene is a complicated character. He testified against a partner who murdered a black teenager but did nothing in the moment to stop his partner. This means that pretty much everybody dislikes him, and his apparently confused morals make it hard for the reader to warm to him. He is persistent, though, and determined to find justice for January.
For me, this is a four-star book. It requires a fair bit of attention and patience but rewards you with an intriguing, tangled mystery with plenty of twists and surprises. I’d recommend it to mystery fans who are interested in ghosts and the paranormal. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel!

This series gets better with every story. This is not my first book and it will not be my last book. This book is a fast pace adventure. There are twists and turns around every page turned. It is well written and the plotline is an adventure. Karina finds herself going to Mexico to drop off a package. It was supposed to be a vacation, but it turns into chaos. Karina always has mishaps with the plans she lays down. This book brings in some Egyptian history, which makes this package even more interesting.
