The Moon in Her Eyes: a witch’s tale by Nikki Broadwell – Review by Moriah Venable

The Moon in Her Eyes: a witch's taleThe Moon in Her Eyes: a witch’s tale by Nikki Broadwell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Moon in Her Eyes is a stand-alone novel by Nikki Broadwell. This is my second novel by this author.

On her 18th birthday, Emeline take her place among her fellow witches including her Grandfather.

With the ability to travel through time, Emeline must prove her innocence when she is blamed for everything going wrong in the lives of tribe Wampanoag tribe in the year 1694. But there is more to her than even she knows.

I don’t read witches stories very much. I am very selective with the ones I do read but I really enjoyed this one.

The plot of time travel and Emeline trying to get the attention of the boy of she loves to remember was really interesting.

I highly recommend this novel.

The Moon in Her Eyes: a witch’s tale
By Nikki Broadwell

I was sucked into this magical fantasy as soon as I started reading. This is a fast paced book with a lot of action, drama, romance, and time travel. Emeline is trying to figure out why the timeline is askew, and if she’s the cause. Will she be able to make things right? The author did an amazing job, with so much going on in the story it wasn’t confusing or erratic. Her story telling and world building made this an exceptional read for me. I was on the edge of me seat for most of the time. I loved the characters in this story, they are very well developed. This book is the second book but can be read as a standalone without feeling like you have missed out on anything. I truly enjoyed the journey this story took me on. I highly recommend this book.

The Moon in Her Eyes: A Witch’s Tale (Witch Series) by Nikki Broadwell- Review by Emma Morreale

The Moon in Her Eyes: a witch's taleThe Moon in Her Eyes: a witch’s tale by Nikki Broadwell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First off, this is the second book in the series and I read this one first. I don’t feel like I was missing out on any information that was super important to the plot of this book but I normally suggest reading a series in order.
The first chapter threw me for a loop because you are thrown right into some sort of ritual and the chapter ends abruptly with the next one starting by letting you know what specific year it is. I spent a minute trying to figure out if that had any bearing on what I had just read and why that wasn’t also put at the beginning of the book. Dialogue got a bit messy and confusing in chapter two and usually this would be enough to turn me off of a book but I could already tell this was my kind of story.
The main character, Emeline, is a time traveling witch. She is living in 1694 when she gets a surprising visit from her sister, Jean, who lives in the modern age. Jean tries to convince Emeline to come back with her but little bits of what she is saying don’t match up with her sister’s memories. I think about this kind of ramification of time travel all the time so I IMMEDIATELY latched on to this, ready for anything.
There were one or two bits that I couldn’t suspend my disbelief for (like a 16 year old living through the 2010’s and having no idea what sex is) but for the most part I really enjoyed reading this book and will absolutely be picking up the first book in the series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Moon in her eyes is the first book I have read by Nikki Broadwell, but it is the second in the series. I was a little lost at the beginning as I didn’t know the character or the situation, however that lost feeling quickly went away as I joined Emeline on an incredible adventure through time. Reading about a time traveling witch, is something new to me, but something I certainly enjoyed reading.

This was an easy to read book with some characters that were helpful to Emeline and some that I wished she had used her magic on. I enjoyed reading this story so much that I plan to get book one, A Witch in Time Saves Nine. There are references to that story in The Moon so I have a good idea what happens there, but since the writing style and story line is so intriguing I can’t wait to read more! I recommend reading this series in order.

Such an excellent novel full of excitement and time travel. I loved following main character Em as she traveled through time attempting to correct history and put an end to different tasks. At no point did I feel bored with this novel. I found the different time lines and possible futures fascinating and at times a bit scary. I highly recommend this book.

The Moon In Her Eyes: a witch’s tale by Nikki Broadwell. This is one of the few Fantasy books I’ve read and at the beginning I wasn’t sure I would like it but it sucked me in right until the very end. Is about a witch named Emeline in 1694 who lives among the Wampanoag Tribe. She is happiest here with her husband the love of her life. When circumstances cause her to have to time travel it messes everything up including her love life. She spends most of the book trying to find the answers to fix everything that was messed up with the time travel. When the timelines get all mixed up it makes everything go crazy. Can Emeline fix the mess she’s made and does she know who she can trust to help her. This book will keep you turning the pages wanting to see what happens. I will read more of these books!

The Moon in Her Eyes: A Witch’s Tale is a paranormal romance, thriller, suspenseful drama by Nikki Broadwell. A fantasy brought to life, Emaline is a quirky time travelling witch who embarks on many adventures, providing endless action and intrigue.

This author keeps a reader on their toes, and I never knew what to expect next. Having read this author’s work before, it was truly eventful and eye opening. Lines are blurred. Past from reality. I was constantly surprised and brazenly glued to the pages.

I loved reading about Emaline’s adventures that never once lacked excitement and constantly gave more with each chapter. 4 stars

The Moon in Her Eyes by Nikki Broadwell a fabulous four-star read. I have read this author previously and thoroughly enjoyed her work so was so excited to get my hands on this, I must admit I didn’t realise this was book two, and I will go back and read book one, but I didn’t feel like I missed anything, the story was full and detailed. The story is fast paced and the plot was detailed but not overly flowery, you felt like part of the story and your heart would race as you get so sucked into the story you can’t put it down.

The Moon in Her Eyes: A Witches Tale by Nikki Broadwell is a unique and interesting story of a witch whole travels through time and the consequences she faces from doing so.
This book is part of a series although the books do not have to be read in order. But it is a bit unclear from the titles that this is the case.
This book is absolutely incredible. I knew from the description that I would be taken on such a journey but I could not have imagined just what that journey would consist of. The story was rich and detailed, making it so easy to envisage what was happening. The characters were creative and relatable, which is impressive when the author is writing about a witch from the 1600’s!!
This author thoroughly grabs your attention and holds you captive all the way through the book. She sets the pace well and develops the story with ease. This is a brilliant book and one I would highly recommend.

A great read about time. Emeline Chase is a witch who can travel through time. Her travels end her up in the 1620s to live with a native American tribe and fall in love with its leader, Samoset. But her abilities cause trouble and mess with time, altering events she knew . With the help of a coven, can she fix it before it’s too late?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like Emeline trusting her abilities while struggling with her feelings or Samoset trying to protect his people despite his feelings
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel in the sense of nature with the forests in the past full of colour and animals.
And the scenes with the fountain under the moon were perfectly written with a.sense of awe and wonder Or the magical and friendly sense of the coven house with the stars was a lovely touch
The only issue I would raise is that it was sometimes hard to follow to which timeline the narrative was taking place . Perhaps a switch of perspective on Samoset or chapters with timeline names on could make this clearer. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars .

The Moon In Her Eyes is the second book in the Witch series. It isn’t specifically a cliffhanger, as the main story has a conclusion, but it does leave the story open to continue.

I really wanted to love this book, but the political aspects of it were not woven into the story in a way that made it flow. It came across as a soapbox rather than a story enhancement. The time travel and paranormal aspects were overshadowed by the challenge I had weeding through the politics.

I did like the historical aspects and the weaving of the time travel piece. And there were a pretty good variety of characters to get to know.

This story was a little confusing. I got lost a lot and had to go back and reread some parts. I did enjoy the story. It was a different direction than most books take. Usually the lead has all this power and stops the bad guy. In this story Em has some powers but doesn’t know how to use them. She isn’t really on board to defeat the bad guy until her man gets involved. I am still not too sure about Helga. She doesn’t vibe right to me. The plot isn’t explained at all doing the book. I’m still trying to figure out what lead to Lourie being this way and why is she after Em. It’s an interesting read with the time traveling and magic.

The Moon in Her Eyes: a witch’s tale by Nikki Broadwell is a fantasy and is full of magic and witches both good and evil. The characters were likeable and the story was set over a lot of different time zones and was a bit hard to keep track of it all. The overall theme of time travel and plot were interesting and I became engrossed in the story because I had to know how it ended. It is not my favourite by Nikki but I was intrigued. At times the main character annoyed me and I wanted to smack her but I had to remember she really was a young adult.

Overall it is a good story that should be added to your to read pile. Enjoy.

I give The Moon in Her Eyes: a witch’s tale by Nikki Broadwell, 4 stars.

Emeline is a witch that can time travel, among other things. She is happiest living in 1694 among her Indian tribe with her husband. But when circumstances arrive, she finds she must leave. Travelling make to current times, she finally meets more witches and learns more about just what she can do. But there is so much more going on than just her troubles. The timelines are being altered. Who is doing this and why? Will she be able to get back to the husband she loves?

I would describe this as a fantasy time travel book. There is much just back and forth in time and places. There is quite a bit going on in this story. There is danger every where Emeline looks. She and her friends are trying to make things right again. But there are others opposed to this. And just who can she trust? I have never read anything like this before and while it was a little difficult for me to follow at first because I am new to time travel books, I quickly fell into the story and was right there beside her. She had to make extremely difficult decisions, but it shows her humanity.

I quite enjoyed this book and happily recommend it.

Nikki Broadwell has a great handle on all of the subject matters she writes about and this one is no different. This would be considered a thriller, fantasy, magical genre book. The Moon in Her Eyes: a witch’s tale is a great story with vivid scenery and characters. This is the second book and can be a stand-alone story. I did not read the first story A Witch in Time Saves Nine (I am going to reading this book next). This is not my first Nikki Broadwell book and it will not be my last one. Broadwell sets the entire book up as though you are right in the middle of the action. Personally I find myself relating to her characters. Emeline, female main character, is a time traveling witch who can get into trouble if she is not careful. The story does shifts between past and present time (for the story) which could be a bit confusing. Emeline is trying to figure out her destiny, but is going about it all wrong. Will Emeline figure out what is going on so she doesn’t taper too much of the time line?

I really like paranormal stories and when you add the added bonus of time travel well who could ask for anything more? The author has such a refreshing world that she has created. The story line is unique and the story just grabs you and keeps you glued to the pages.

I really felt myself connected with Emeline. The way she built her life with Samoset and his people really adds to the story. I really liked how she is able to time travel and the drama that is played out in the book as she fights to put the future straight really keep you enticed. This book is such an addicting read and I will most certainly be reading it again as well as more books from this author.

It’s definitely a sign or a great writer if they can stray from their norm and still knock out a 4- 5 star reads.
While there is romance in this novel, I really enjoyed it as the story of a woman that is finding her self esteem and overcoming obstacles after escaping an abusive relationship. Collie is a character that you root for from the beginning to the end and the course of the story is truly gripping. I would recommend this entertaining even relatable 4 star read!

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was fast paced and a very original story about a woman named Collie. She is in an abusive relationship and desperately needs to get away from her husband. She decides to dance and collect enough money to leave but that’s when she meets a man named Tim and he might just be her salvation.

I give Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell, 5 stars.

Collie has finally had enough of her abusive husband so she flees. But at 40 years old, she doesn’t know exactly what to do or where to go. She decides to go on a journey to find who she really is. When her money is gone, she needs to find employment. There is only one thing she knows how to do — exotic dancing. But at her age? Can she survive? Will she find peace in her soul again?

This was an interesting book. Starting over from what you have known for so long is hard, and Collie does struggle at times. This book seems like it could be a biography, it is written so realistically. Collie is a great main character — flawed, but lovable too. There are many surprises you will not see coming. Collie has to endure so much. It also shows the stigma about exotic dancing. I would suggest adults only to read this since there are some events that could be disturbing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

I have read some of Nikki Broadwell’s work before but this was a totally different type of novel than I had expected to find from her. This was much more of an all the feels type novel. I found myself really feeling the gambit of emotions as Collie, our MC, felt them. I wanted to cry a lot more than I had expected, and I had a lot of moments where I just had to stop and process the feelings I was having before I could go on with the book.

This is a very detailed and multi-layered novel. It is extremely hard to review the book without giving away too much of the details that will spoil the goodies for you and not sound repetitive of the synopsis. For the best parts I will say you are going to have to take my word for it, you must read this book. You won’t be disappointed that you did. The journey that Collie takes to find herself is one that you don’t want to miss out on. I know I learned a thing or two from her myself.

Burning Night is novel by Nikki Broadwell. This is my first novel by this author.

Escaping an abusive relationship, Collie leaves with the help of her friend Mary who gets her a truck and money. But when her money is stolen, she is forced to return to exotic dancing. Though she is skeptical of it working because of her age.

Her goal is to attend Burning Night which is located in a small town in Alaska. She also meets younger man named Tim. Will she find happily ever after or will it just be another heartbreak?

I have been in a reading slump lately and was apprehensive about reading anything. The summary caught my attention and I thought I would give it a try. I’m glad I did. Collie was strong and vulnerable and it was great to read her growth and how she overcame obstacles. I was so happy when I was reading her leaving her abusive husband and trying to regain her self confidence that had been lowered over the years.

I don’t want to give too much away. With a strong female lead, a little romance and a theme of overcoming obstacles and reaching your goals, this is novel that can be relatable to anyone who reads it.

This story maybe short but it leaves you on the edge and doesn’t let go. I really enjoyed this novel and will read more by this author.

Dreams can mean so many things. Everyone interrupts things differently. Collie has had a hard life. Being with the worse kind of partner damaged more than her mental and emotional state. She had no self-esteem, no will to move and no hope. There are so many women and men faced with this everyday. I was proud and scared for Collie’s journey. There would be so many obstacles and setbacks. I liked that she didn’t give up and kept pushing. I liked that the author gave you a look into another culture. I don’t know anything about Native American culture and this story made me interesting in knowing if the customs were true. The characters were all well written. You could feel their struggles and the insecurities.

Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell was a great 5 star read. This is my first read from Nikki and I really enjoyed it, she pulls you right in with her writing and you won’t want to stop until your done.

My interest in life was as shallow as the dish I kept under the potted plant that had recently died.

Collie is in an abusive relationship and is dealing with depression on top of it. She has grown distant from her husband and is questioning everything about her life. Where did everything go wrong? Should she stay? Should she go?

There is a lot of emotion in this read, I was all over the place. Collie decides to go on a journey for a fresh start. She is a very strong woman that grew stronger as the story progressed. There is a bit of mystery along with twist and turns. The secondary characters added a great element to the story, some I liked some not so much. You can’t help but feel like your right there with Collie on her journey, I was exhausted when I finished. The ending was great and I loved the epilogue. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell was a fast moving, wicketly original read that had me so hooked that I had this read in one sitting, and may have… may have caused me to be sort of late for work….

Not my first read by this author so I knew I was in for something different. Right out of the gate this book captured me and kept me on edge. There wasn’t any time to think, you could feel our MC’s desperation and the need to get as far away as she could. That level of emotional writing is a talent in it’s own, and one that makes this story shine.

There is so much I can say, pick apart and simply gush about. But this is also the type of story that if I give you one hint, one clue, one layer, then it will ruin the allure and may spoil the complex fast moving plot. No worries I’m not going to completely leave you in the dark. I will tell you that this story is sharp, richly detailed, intense, emotional and good. It’s so good that finding the right words to convince you, will take the whole dictionary just to convey what I’m feeling. Book hangover isn’t the word right now.

So please, please, take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you need this book in your life. So much so that you don’t even know how much. This read will capture you, it will hold you and it will make you question reality.

Happy Reading

Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future By Nikki Broadwell. This story had me on what can only be described as an emotional roller coaster ride. This author writes in a way that readers feel every single emotion written into this story soul deep. I’m a huge fan of stories about people who have pasts they have survived from. Collie is one of my favorite characters I’ve gotten to read about, life kicks her down but she just keeps getting back up again. There’s a bit of mystery in this story that kept me on the edge of my seat and turning pages faster. You go on a journey with Collie and it’s an incredible one. I love the writing style and the characters are complex and relatable. It’s paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to everyone.
