This is the first time that I have read a book by the author and I was definitely surprised at how much I enjoyed her writing. I have been in a book slump and have been trying to find my way out of it and this book helped me along the way. The themes of the book really hit home. I felt for Cathy Lu. She was relatable and I loved to see her story play out. Then add in the sexy Angel. My oh my. This book was seriously what I needed.

An enjoyable and engaging paranormal romance and a great start to a new series. Human, Cathy Lu is concentrating on her career having been disappointed by past relationships, so she’s not looking for love. However, drawn to the magic around the August Full Moon she meets an Angel, Daedriel, who makes all her desires come true. Daedriel is a seraph, bound to blood, death, and responsibility, and so has never been in love or had a relationship, but one kiss from Cathy and he’s thinking of forever with her. Soon evil surrounds them and Daedriel has to keep Cathy safe but is that by keeping her close or keeping her far away from him and the darkness that threatens him. The storyline flows well and the plot kept me happily turning the pages. I loved Daedriel and Cathy which made me feel engaged with them and the story. Their chemistry really came across in the narrative and I was cheering them on hoping they would get their HEA.

This was a very beautifully written romantic adventure. It has all that you could possibly want from the romance genre itself. It has the strong, independent heroine that knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go for it. Cathy Lu has been through enough of life’s hardships that she can find it difficult to trust, and that shows through her connection with Daedriel, who not only has his own demons, but fights them, or at least the darkness, too. I really enjoyed the way that the author brings to light some of Cathy’s heritage and family traditions growing up, too, certainly made me a little homesick!
Daedriel is what I would consider a brilliant yin to Cathy’s yang, as throughout the novel, their connection deepens. He is her sexy Carpenter, being there for her to improve her space and show her all that life can give to her, within the mortal world, and outside. The connection Cathy shares with this handsome seraph gives this reader hope for women everywhere, as I think it’s important to be able to balance one another. Truly, this novel kept me hooked, I enjoyed the action sequences, the curiosity it evokes, and the romance, of course, all tied in together, and I thoroughly look forward to reading the next installment in this series. Well done, certainly recommend!

Great paranormal romance, unique, nothing I have read before. I really liked the point of view alternating back and forth between Cathy and Daedriel. They are a sweet couple, Cathy really seems like a wonderful woman and this story just made me feel joy that she gets someone good like Daedriel, she deserves all the good, especially with how she helps Victor and his wife. Watching this couple fight off the dark angel agenda, first with Rask is an adventure, there are so many elements I haven’t seen before, everything blue when it comes to Daedriel, a black tourmaline that has been stolen and a dark angel agenda. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Oh I just loved this one! Being the first in a new series you could tell this was setting us up for some fun books to be had and I for one and here for it. I loved this fun and sweet, and sometimes sassy paranormal, angel lore, romance read. It had some new elements to it that I hadn’t seen before, and hey that is something we don’t see much of lately. I really only have one negative takeaway, and that is it was just so short. This book could have been longer and I would have devoured it happily as I am sure others would have. I can only hope we will have more story to look forward to in future installments!

A spider-shifter for a main character makes for an incredible new world of possibilities. I’ve never read anything with a Webmaker before and found this to be a more magical and interesting story because of it. I felt like I was reading the wild-west equivalent of urban fantasy and wasn’t sure what to expect, but thoroughly enjoyed reading more about this world. The story had a great and natural flow to it that got me to read it faster than I would have with a book of a similar length. The author created an amazing tale with a strong, female lead, enthralling plot, and intriguing side characters!

This is an original and interesting story that is so easy to read. I connected with this book straight away, especially the characters. I thought the were written so well. They just fit together. The connection between them was engaging and easy to believe. I really wanted to read more about them. The story had a great balance of romance and fantasy. Neither overtook the other and for me that made the story better. This is a strong start to a new series and I am excited to see what else the author has in store for us.

So I was surprised at how much I loved this book! I am terrified of spiders but Aranha needs to be my new best friend! The story was original and refreshing! The is one of the best books that I have read a while. This is going to be in my top five for 2022, can’t change my mind. If you love shifter books and need something different you HAVE to read this. Accepted into the sisterhood! Well not without ire and reservations of some. The Clockwork Solution brings us back to Arabella’s story. I feel she holds a lot of cards in her favor as she did previously. This book pretty much picks up where book 1 ended. Disowned but accepted definitely leaves our main character struggling with decisions about her future. Aside from the fact her life is still in danger. Arabella’s mother decides to send her to Ireland so she can update on their famine issues. Dangerous in its own way to witches, Arabella’s mother feels it’s the safest place for her. Which direction does Arabella choose? Is Ireland really the safer bet? You want answers? Well then you have to dig in! I do like this book better than the first book, but anyone who is interested in this story really should read book 1 first.

Hmm… where to begin. The Clockwork Witch was better than expected. I struggled at the beginning, it started off slow. So listen to me when I say don’t give up if you feel the same way. It’s worth touching it out. Arabella, the 7th daughter of Minerva who is the 7th daughter was thought to be the one who filled the prophecy that would change the way the witches in this story exist. Unfortunately though Arabella seems to be a dud. No magical powers. She’s a fascinating character to watch develop as the story goes on. At the same time you feel for her. She’s an outcast to her mother by lacking magical ability, an outcast to her father because she’s not a son. A sister that’s looked down upon by all in exception to Rowena. Her life is not easy and it makes her a target. One night she’s fascinated by machinery and the light she sees flying through it. Come to find out that could lead to her having magic after all. Unfortunately not a type of magic that’s accepted. It’s all about how she navigates her situation. Does it help her? Does it make her more vulnerable? Again when I say read it, even if you’re like me and think it’s starting slow. Push through it won’t disappoint. I’m now looking forward to book 2, when I wasn’t at 1st. The author turned me around!

Arabella has returned and this time she is off on an adventure along with her sister. I was very excited to see a situation we were presented with at the beginning of the first book became the main focus of this book.
The author once again does a great job at create a world where technology and magic must try and work together. However again like the first book I really couldn’t fall in love with it. It’s still a solid story and the characters really help bring it to life but it felt a little slow to me.

I tried to love this book. It had so much potential but it never fully came to the point where I just loved it. I will say based on the world building aspect and the deep internal battles I will give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.
As I was reading this book, I experienced a whole rainbow of emotions. The MC mother and older sisters angered me at their treatment of Arabella just because she failed at being magical which she had no control over. The relationship between her and her mother was one of extreme abuse and very degrading which led me to feel sadness for the MC.
I look forward to reading the second book in this series to see if we find answers to some of the questions left at the end of this book.

I really enjoyed this book. I like reading books that about witches, but this book had a bit of a twist which I found interesting. I have not ever read a book about a witch that had control over technology and I found that intriguing. This book had some adventures and suspense, it also had some laughs and love. If you enjoy stories about witches that have a bit of a twist then I highly recommend this book to you.

I was immediately engrossed in this book. The pace was steady and entertaining from start to end. I finished it in one day. What a fascinating story about magic, witches, and the struggles that they face from those that don’t understand them to their own. This is my first book from this author but I plan on reading others. Her style of writing is easy to read and very imaginative. If you’re on the fence about the book, take a leap of faith and read it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

This book picks up where book 1 left off. Arabella really grows this book, and it is interesting to see her relationships with her family change and grow as well. I like how insistent Arabella is on standing up for her convictions. I also absolutely love how the blight problem in Ireland is solved, and the hook at the end about where Arabella is going next definitely has me intrigued!

This is the second book in The Clockwork Chronicles series. Since it leads off directly after the first one, I would suggest reading the first book before this one.
I must say, I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one. The author delves into the concept of the main characters powers more and has the writing is more theirs this time around. More experience went into this book.
We once again follow Arabella, a witch of technomancy, a power no witch has possessed before now. The rest of the witch community is divided. Some see Arabella as hope for the future while others see her as an abomination. Before now, witches and technology did not mix.
In order to protect Arabella from those who wish her harm, her mother sent her and her sister, Rowena, to Ireland to help find a solution to the blight that is affecting crops causing starving families. Witches in the past have tried to no avail. Can Arabella bring a new light to this blight?

I enjoyed this story so much more that the first one (that one I loved as well). Going on this journey with Arabella discovering who she is and growing into an adult is remarkable. The creativity behind the plot, the magic and it’s battle with science is awesome. It took me finishing the book to grasp what was happening on the cover art lol I cannot wait for the next installment to see where France takes our main character. I hope Arabella continues to stand her ground with her mother and allow her uniqueness to grow. I believe she is the balance that the world needs to survive. Without her the witches will die and the mundane will destroy themselves. Fingers crossed the next one will be out soon.

Arabella is the 7th daughter of the most powerful witch in the UK. So because of this, everyone was expecting her to be a powerful witch as well. As it turns out, Arabella has shown no signs of any kind of powers.
Arabella and her family attended an event where they were introduced to a big machine that can do calculations on its own. As soon as Arabella sees this machine, her magic kicks in. She sees magic in the machines.
Usually magic and technology do not mix but somehow Arabella can make it work.
This book hit all of the witch tropes with a splash of historical steampunk. The author took two popular topics and mashed them together. There were too many tropes. It was like the author purposely tried to hit them all right down to the names. The concept was great on it’s own so all the tropes were kind of overkill.

This was an enjoyable and engaging read which kept me happily turning the pages eager to be immersed in the story. Arabella is the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, in a long line of gifted witches, but who has no magical talent herself. Even her disappointed family refer to her as a ‘brown bud’. Arabella then discovers an affinity for technomancy and her ability not only opens up the mechanical world’s mysteries but she can also manipulate them. Arabella is the first ever clockwork witch which is seen as unnatural in the witching world. As Arabella tries to get to grips with her new power she also has to deal with her family and peers judgement. To complicate her life further she then learns about ‘The Trials’, which she may or may not survive. The detailed world building along with the descriptive narrative brought the setting vividly alive for me, making me feel immersed in the story. I loved the main character, Arabella and found her a likeable and relatable heroine and enjoyed following her adventures as she came into her powers. The storyline was exciting and the plot had me hooked from start to finish.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and having read book one I was keen to be back with the heroine of the story, Arabella. As the first ever technomancer in a long line of gifted witches Arabella is used to being a disappointment to her family, but she has joined the ‘Sisterhood of Witches’. Arabella has a lot to prove and wants to succeed at her first assignment, although the task has already claimed two lives. She must find the root cause of the famine sweeping through Ireland whilst knowing that both her future and even her life are at risk. The wonderful world building really brought the setting to life making me feel immersed in the story. The storyline is exciting and had me gripped from the start, and the plot twists kept me guessing. I loved Arabella even more in this second book in the series, as her character has developed as she’s grown into her powers. An enjoyable and engaging read, which kept me hooked.

Arabella Leyden returns and she is finally able to come to terms with her powers of Technomancy, but it still isn’t all smooth sailing for her, since she passed the Trials and became a fully recognised witch, she has constantly faced criticism from others because of her lack of, in their minds, true magical talent. This has not deterred her from following her own patch and finding ways to cope, but some are finally coming round to see it as a possible advantage.
She has only just found a moment to breathe and let her current situation sink in when receives a summons, wherein, she is given her first assignment and it is not an easy one, she has been chosen to travel to Ireland and see if she can find a solution to the famine which is blighting the Isle and lend her help to the witches who reside there. So she soon finds herself having to adapt to a new situation, so she chooses her travel companion and meets the others who will be travelling in their small party, although on the surface it seems quite straightforward, what she learns about past assignments set her ill at ease.
The journey opens Arabella’s eyes about the world around her and how much she doesn’t know, but she is determined to learn as much as she can so that she can be as successful as possible with the assignment, however, with danger lurking around every corner and finding out that previous Sortilege family members have died trying to solve the problem she has also been given, Arabella must stay on her guard while listening to those around her who are also trying to keep her safe from harm.
Will the machinations of those around her lead her to more danger, or will her unique combination of magic and science be the solution to the prayers of many? This is another sci-fi fantasy where secrets abound and discoveries are made, as problems are researched, opinions are heard and options are considered while danger hides in the shadows all around those involved.

Arabella Sortilege is a young witch who lives in Victorian England, she is the youngest of a large family, a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter to be exact but she is the only one out of all her female relatives who has not shown an ounce of magical talent. One day, the Sortilege family are invited to an event where an invention is unveiled and Arabella is fascinated with it, especially when she can see it all shining with an inner glow, all apart from an area in the centre, when she asks her sister about it, she finds out that it is magic she can sense, but not in any way which would be classed as normal, her sister advises her to stay quiet about what she has seen until they return home.
As the days go on, Arabella begins to notice that she can see other aspects of technology shining like magic, however, this leads to trouble and Arabella begins to feel like she finally understands what her sisters feel, apart from it is with an element, which is not natural. As events continue, Arabella’s secret comes out and she is even more trouble than before, she now has to face the judgement of those around her and the Trials which every young witch has to go through, to enable her to declare her Technomancy and the fact that she both understands and can manipulate machinery.
Will Arabella be able to stay out of harms way long enough to pass the Trials and be finally accepted into the family and develop her talents, or will the danger she faces stop her in her tracks, or will the judgement she faces be the most severe possible? This is a sci-fi fantasy where magic and technology combine in a coming of age tale of one young witch finding her place within a world where the rules are absolute and anything outside of them is considered an abomination.

After surviving The Trials that almost killed her, Technomancer Arabella Leyden, has finally gotten her greatest desire, to join the sisterhood of witches. The deaths of two witches in the Shortilage line gives her her first assignment, to find the root cause of the famine that’s sweeping through Ireland. As the first ever Technomancer her future and her life is on the line. Will she find a way to blend their old views with her new powers? I love this story! The Technomancer powers that Arabella has are so cool. I also really liked her twist on covens and The Trials that she had to take! Very exciting, great action and suspense! I also really loved the political intrigue of the different councils and of the Investiture itself, it really kept me reading on to find out what happens. Sonnier’s vivid and detailed writing also paints a beautiful picture, that is not in the least bit boring or drawn out. Would definitely read it again!!!

A really good follow-up to the Clockwork Witch, where we get to see Arabella leaning into her powers, and aligning herself with supportive people. Now officially part of the witching world, she learns some of the secrets of the Council, and becomes determined to change some of their more unsavory policies. Her mother makes some halting attempts to reconnect their relationship, and sends her on a mission to Ireland to solve the sticky problem of the famine. Mother doesn’t really expect Arabella to solve much, but underestimating her youngest daughter is never a good idea.
I enjoyed seeing Arabella becoming her own woman and witch. She stands up to those who can’t support her, especially those with the power to hurt her, with grace and determination. Eliza and Sarah were interesting characters as well, and were a nice contrast to Arabella and the world she grew up in.

A great story with lots of conflict and high emotion. Arabella has grown up in the shadow of her powerful mother and 6 talented older sisters. Having displayed no witchy talents, she is an embarrassment to her mother, and basically ignored by most of her sisters. When her talents appear after everyone had given up hope, Arabella is bewildered and very curious. But, as her world functions around Technology vs. Witches, neither side respects her talent nor wants her anywhere near them. Arabella must find a way to develop her new powers without much support, and navigate those in the witchy world who think she is an abomination and call for her death.
Arabella is a loveable character, full of curiousity, and possessing humility and strength. As she learns who her allies are, and becomes more powerful at wielding her power, her confidence grows and limitations are exceeded. The friendship between she and her sister, Rowena, is a source of strength for her, and she finds love and support from her estranged brother as well. The ending of the story is exciting and made me want to start book 2 immediately!

This was a really good quick read! It’s the first of a series that I am excited to read. The world building was so good and I fell in love with the characters. It gives me a City of Angels the movie vibe and I was hooked from the first sentence. I am really excited to see where this series goes.

This book was a definite treat for a fantasy reader like me. It was the first I read with a spider shifter. Aranha is a spider who thinks she is on the verge of extinction. She meets up with Dag, a daywalker who feels the same. Neither really trusts the other. They both end up on a mission that brings surprises. The book is full of action. I even finished it with my fear of spiders. The description of her fangs coming down, shifting into a spider or her little buddies coming out creeped me out. It made the book even better. I loved seeing the bit of romance develop between Dag and Aranha because walls had to fall. Twists and turns throughout the plot made it kind of like a wild slide. The characters were cool in a butt kicking way. I definitely recommend this.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and the way the author has woven the idea of magic and technology together to enhance witches around the world abilities. Arabella has a harder time proving herself to her Mother, who is the Grand Dame, than those of mundane society. I felt a connection to her, as the main character, as in my mind, she is the black sheep of her family, and really, of witches all together. She wants to make everyone proud, and happy to call her daughter, sister, friend, and will do everything to see to it that that is the case. It can feel a little long-winded at times, though.
The way the author wove new ideas with old ideas was brilliant, and the way she built up the characters throughout the novel was well done. I found that just when I felt a character was starting to lack sustenance, more information came to light, and the reader is pulled right back into this historical treat. You have some thoughts by the end of it that lead you to believe you’re in for another enjoyable adventure next time round too, which is nice. Truly a fun read, I held my breath on more than one occasion, and I look forward to reading the next installment. Well done!
