Revel (The Howl Series, #1)Revel by Alden Elway
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Revel by Alden Elway a five-star read you will revel in. This was my first read by this author and it will not be my last, there was a glut of stories about wolves a while ago and I started to avoid them, but I am glad I decided to give this one a try as the descriptions is so well done you can smell the dew on the forest floor. This was so good, it brings a refreshing take on the story, if you like action and romance with a great story then don’t miss this great story.

Revel (The Howl Series, #1)Revel by Alden Elway
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Revel by Alden Elway is a fast paced story with a level of intrigue thrown in for good measure. The story is mysterious and engaging and really keeps your attention from start to finish. My favourite part of the book had to be the main character Revel. I thought she was so interesting to read about, a strong and independent character that seemed to be really going on a journey.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I enjoyed the writing style throughout. The author knows just when to push the story forward and when to dive more into the detail. She has created a complex and interesting character in Revel and has definitely found the perfect way to leave you, as the reading, wanting more. I am definitely looking forward to see what is coming next.

I love reading shifter romances so I was instantly interested in this book. The mystery and secrecy kept me captivated to the point I could not put this book down. The perspective of Revel gave an interesting look into pack life and emphasised the danger of love that kept me on the edge of my seat.

With an existential crisis looming over his head, Asher needs a break from reaping souls. But when he leaves his door to the underworld unattended, one escaped ghost threatens to turn the French Quarter into a haven for the hell-bound.

Oh, and that crisis he was trying to escape? Her name is Jasmine Lee, and she could be the death of him.

The literal death of Death. Yep. You heard that right.

There’s no such thing as too dead when it comes to necromancer Jasmine Lee. She’s never met a ghost she can’t tame, but when a thousand ornery spirits descend upon New Orleans, her secret weakness is a recipe for phantasmal disaster.

Holy ghost guts. She’s in trouble.

The unfairly hot reaper is the last person Jasmine wants to work with. But if she doesn’t help Asher wrangle the lost souls back to the underworld, there will be hell to pay.

Literally.

Enjoy a smoldering brush with Death in this fast, fun romantic comedy.

Carrie Pulkinen is a paranormal romance author who has always been fascinated with things that go bump in the night. Of course, when you grow up next door to a cemetery, the dead (and the undead) are hard to ignore. Pair that with her passion for writing and her love of a good happily-ever-after, and becoming a paranormal romance author seems like the only logical career choice.

Before she decided to turn her love of the written word into a career, Carrie spent the first part of her professional life as a high school journalism and yearbook teacher. She loves good chocolate and bad puns, and in her free time, she likes to read, drink wine, and travel with her family.

Eye of Death (Vampire State Book 3) by Alexander Charalambides – Review by Heather Lovelace

Eye of Death (Vampire State, #3)Eye of Death by Alexander Charalambides
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Charalambides continues to do a brilliant job with his story and character development within the pages of this series and its latest installment. I love how the story has come together and how the characters continue to just jump off the page. I feel that the story is so well written it will be enjoyed if you haven’t read the other parts of the series. However given the brilliance of the work I don’t think you will want to miss a single word. Can’t wait to see what we get from the author next!

Eye of Death (Vampire State, #3)Eye of Death by Alexander Charalambides
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Eye of Death: A paranormal romance (Vampire State Book 3) by Alexander Charalambides, 4 stars.

Rowena is back and just trying to figure things out in this her new life. She has ideals, things she strongly believes in, and will do anything to uphold these. You really see her grow and learn to make her own decisions. She is a very strong character, yet she has her issues like anyone. She is what makes this series so good. The story itself is gripping and interesting, dystopia at it’s best.

This is the third book in the series and you really have to read the first two before you read this one. The one thing, I wish there was a short lead-in or reminders of what happened in previous books. It has been a long time since I read the last book, with many other books in between. It took me a bit to not feel lost. Of course, I do have a horrible memory. However, once I got into it, I could not put the book down.

If you are a fan of supernatural dystopia, I recommend this book and series.

Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire is the fourth book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. This was yet another great novel by the author. I loved the comedic tone of the book, with Jane Devereux’s numerous problems and how she handles them. How the author was able to combine Christmas and vampires was quite amusing as well. Who would have thought, Santa as a vampire, but it worked. If you are looking for a quick, humorous, holiday read, I would highly recommend this book as well as others in the series.

Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire by Carrie Pulkinen is the fourth book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. These can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading at least book 1 before delving into this book. This is a delightfully fun quick read. This entire series is light, paranormal reading set in the perfect setting of New Orleans. I really have enjoyed Jane in the past but this gave a new insight into her and her marriage to Ethan. Also, one would ask how Santa Claus could fit into the story, but seriously you need to read this to find out. This is full of laughs and great characters. A definite getaway from this cruddy year. I look forward to more in this series and from this author in the future.

Revel (The Howl Series Book 1) by Alden Elway – Review by Shannon Fowler

Revel (The Howl Series, #1)Revel by Alden Elway
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first book by Alden Elway and thankfully will not be my last. This book, Revel, ending in a serious cliff hanger and I need book 2, like yesterday.

I was not sure how I felt about this book as first since I did not know what to expect. Was this story a sexy romance? A dark mystery? Or just another run of the mill wolf story? I am here to tell you that Revel is no ordinary wolf story. There is a dark mysterious something that is killing humans. There is a sexy wolf and a sexy human causing Revel to question everything. And there is page-turning action.

The adventure of a wolf pack is crazy enough. Having to keep away from the human world is more difficult than one thinks when the urges are everywhere. Revel proves that in every choice she makes and those she doesn’t make. I loved the characters in this story and can not wait to read what comes next for the entire pack. So many questions left unanswered. Daniel? Jamie? Granddad? And of course, Revel herself!

This also has to be one of the best holiday stories that I have read. It has the right amount of holiday cheer and story depth to make it more than just a Christmas story. This author has such a great way of creating a gripping book with such strong characters. I have yet to read one of her stories that I didn’t enjoy. Are you ready for a laugh riot? Looking for something to tickle your funny bone? Want to escape into a world filled with fun characters and humor galore? Then you need to pick up this fantastic book by Carrie Pulkinen! Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire is the 4th installment in the New Orleans Nocturne book series and Ms. Pulkinen keeps the fabulousness going with this latest read. Now, mind you, this is a stand-alone book. But I’ve said it before, do yourself a HUGE favor and pick up this series. You’ll want to get to know all of these wonderful characters and their stories.

Now, this latest book is about Jane Devereux (from License to Bite) and her antics adjusting to her new life. Jane is adjusting to her life fabulously until a small encounter with Father Christmas. Now with only 3 days to teach Santa the ways of the Vampire and get him back to the North Pole in time, things are a bit tense. Oh! And did I forget to mention Jane’s dad, the governor of Texas is coming for a visit to see her? Talk about a stressful Christmas! Follow Jane, her hubs-hottie Ethan, and their nocturnal friend Gaston as they try to get through this holiday!

With witty banter, great chemistry between the main characters, and a fun-loving story, Ms. Pulkinen hits a trifecta with her latest book. I loved being able to see each of the characters again and learning what they’ve been up to in their lives. Add in the fun town of New Orleans and great sub-characters, you can’t help but fall in love with this book. If you’re looking for a feel-good holiday read (you know, like a Hallmark Christmas movie type story with tons of laughs), then pick this beauty up.

Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire is the 4th book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. I have read them all and love them. They are quick reads that are hilarious. I don’t normally read supernatural books, but these are great. They are not dark, but instead light humored, about a group of friends, which include vampires, werewolves, witches and more. This book centers around Jane Devereux, so I recommend at least reading her book- License to Bite- to get the full background. This book is a short story, that you wont want to put down. It is fast paced and funny. Telling the story of how Jane runs over Santa, and in order to save his life, and Christmas, she must turn him into a vampire. Not your average Christmas story, but worth reading.

Revel by Alden Elway is a paranormal story and paranormal is my favourite genre if it is done well. And Revel came into its own once it hit its stride. Having said that though it was tough going for a while in the beginning. It was a little bland. It was a little slow and was failing at keeping my attention BUT perseverance and a change in pace sees the story picking up in rhythm and action, intensity and intrigue. Freedom and staying hidden is not always easy life for a shifter. One sighting and a few murders and who do you think they will blame? Danger and mistakes, consequences and lies, fear and uncertainty, love and spirit help make this story come into its own.

This is a hilarious addition to this series. It’s definitely not your typical Christmas story but it’ll become a classic. Finally allowed to drive Genevieve, Jane not only gets into an accident but she nearly kills Santa. The only way to save his life is to turn him into a vampire. Christmas is around the corner and she has three days to teach him how to be a good vampire or all is lost. She absolutely doesn’t want to be known as the one who not only destroyed the holidays but killed Jolly Old St. Nick as well.

This is a quick, funny read. Definitely one you’ll enjoy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this fun, lighthearted paranormal romance with a festive twist, which put me in the Christmas spirit. As I have read the previous books in the ‘New Orleans Nocturnes’ series, I was already familiar with the main characters, Jane and Ethan from book one ‘License to Bite’. However, each book in the series is a standalone story although the characters do crossover. In this quick holiday story, Jane Devereux is adjusting well to her new life as a nocturne. She is married to the hottest vampire in New Orleans, Ethan, and is running a popular nightclub in the French Quarter. When she accidentally runs Santa Claus over the only way to save him is to turn him into a vampire. Jane then has three days to teach Santa how to be a vampire and then get him back to the North Pole for Christmas Eve. To complicate her life further, Jane’s father is visiting her for Christmas and she has not told him that she’s married or that she’s a vampire. It was fun being back with the “vamps of New Orleans Nocturnes” and I enjoyed catching up with Jane and Ethan as they are great characters. The storyline flows well, making this an enjoyable and easy read whilst the narrative brings the characters to life. The story has some laugh out loud moments and it’s a real page turner of a novel. I found this romantic comedy with a paranormal twist an exciting and engaging read. I look forward to future books in the series.

I absolutely loved listening to The Rest of Forever. This was my first time experiencing an audio book by her and I loved every moment of it. I really enjoyed the premise of the book and how I was listening around Christmastime and felt like it was kismet. I had to be there and hear it. I am so excited that there will be more to come in the series and will definitely be checking them all out.

Guardian Angels are amazing and I am a huge believer in them so this book was less paranormal for me and I found it believable. I loved the banter between April and Damian, her angel. This book could make the perfect sitcom I swear. I look forward to seeing what else we will get in this series of books.

I can’t wait to see what this author will write about next.

Jane goes for a ride in an awesome car and she ends up hitting someone. She hits Santa and she has to turn him into a vampire to save his life. Jane now has only three days to get the new Santa ready for Christmas and she has no idea what to do. To make matters worse she also has her father coming over this year and he has no idea that she’s married and is a vampire. Will Jane be able to save Christmas or will it all blow up in her face?

Revel (The Howl Series, #1)Revel by Alden Elway
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If it has teeth, claws and fur – I’m in because I’ve always been a sucker for a good werewolf story. So stumbling upon this book, I had high hopes and expectations too. I always do for a werewolf story so I took no time in devouring it.
I got about a quarter way through and I seriously considered about stopping. It felt dry, slow and I felt like there wasn’t really anything to sink my teeth into. With much thought, I decided to keep going and then suddenly, the pace picked up. It drew me in slowly and before I knew it, I was completely pulled in and lost all track of time.
The story became more than just about a girl, stuck between two worlds. It became about a woman, torn between duty of who she is and who she wants to be.
So, even though this story starts a little dry and heavy, trust me when I say it’s a diamond in the rough. You’ll fall in love with the characters as they grow each chapter, cheering them on every step and stumble of the way. Then, before you know it, the story will have completely devoured your attention, leaving you hungry for more.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Revel Finley is a twenty two year old woman who lives with her family in a large cabin in the woods near Kane, but she is also a werewolf shifter, she lives for being in the woods and running free in her wolf form, to embrace and be embraced by nature and everything she loves and she is careful about being seen, that is until she is by a hiker in the woods as she is hunting. When she decides to pluck up the courage to tell her brother, she realises that the guy who saw her is his coworker and not just that, he has told her brother before she gets the chance to and now he has to keep it to herself or she will bear the full brunt of her Alpha Soren’s rage. Revel makes up a lame excuse for being there when she steps out of the tree line and sees her brother and he says he will give her a lift home as he is about to leave, so they go up to his office so that he can grab some paperwork, she sees a family photo on his desk as she looks around the office and remembers the day it was taken and how her family had a run together and bonded strongly, especially with her twin Tristan, it is while she is reminiscing that she is introduced to his coworker, Jamie and her reaction to him is something she wasn’t prepared for in the slightest.

When they get home, they have a pack meeting to discuss the sighting of this wolf and what the consequences might be for the pack, the meeting turns to fear, raised voices and panicked questioning until Soren asserts his status and calms the pack members down, throughout all of this, Revel is trying not to show how guilty she feels for the whole situation and that she is the wolf who has been seen.

Finally, Soren puts out the order to stay away from the trails and roads, or there will be consequences, as well as stating that nobody should hunt alone, but when everyone else cowers to their alpha’s will, Revel finds that she is not as affected as she should be. When Soren later pulls Revel to one side and tells her that he wants her to hunt with her two younger twin brothers so that she can bring one down a few notches and the other up a few and build his confidence. As the three of them head out later on with Tristan in tow, they walk through the woods in wolf form until they smell a mountain lion nearby and decide it is time to teach Ethan a lesson, it all goes to plan until Ethan runs off scared and discovers something in the wood that he wasn’t prepared for. They find a piece of human remains and decide that they need to return home and tell Soren about it, but when they find out he has already left, they decide to keep it to themselves until he gets back.

A welcome distraction arrived with Revel getting a job at the local farmers market, helping to lift crates and other jobs most days of the week, but this is where she runs into Jamie more and cannot deny the attraction between them. As she has to keep it a secret, she struggles with lying to her family as she sneaks around and spends more time Jamie, it is about this time when a mysterious and handsome lone wandering wolf, Daniel comes to stay at the cabin, which is not unusual, but what is is that hikers begin to go missing and bodies start to be found around pack territory, this puts more pressure on Revel as she tries to hide more and more secrets from her family and the danger around them grows.

Will Revel’s secrets be revealed to the rest of the pack, or will the pack be able to work out who is killing the hikers and what will happen if they do? This is a romance with a dangerous edge and shows how mistakes can lead to dangerous paths and dire consequences, but also how strength can come out of it and show what people are really capable of. A riveting look at pack life and romance with the added twist of danger in is a story you will want to continue and finish once you have started it.

After Santa’s registration they take Santa out for his first feed and to get his official license, but something is still off, this is where they all have to break the news to Mrs Claus, as well as this, she has the added bonus of her dad coming to visit for Christmas and she is going to have to break the news that she is a vampire, but more that that, is that she is also married and prepare herself to see her dad and face his reactions to her news! Jane only has three days to fix Santa and save Christmas, but can she do it in time, or at all?

This story is a christmas themed romp through New Orleans where mistakes are made and curveballs are thrown around like snowballs in a snowball fight and a read which will keep you reading until the end.

Eye of Death (Vampire State Book 3) by Alexander Charalambides – Review by Jonell Collins

Eye of Death (Vampire State, #3)Eye of Death by Alexander Charalambides
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m really liking these vampire state novels. A unique little twist on vampire tales. In Eye of Death (Vampire State Book 3) by Alexander Charalambides Rowena is still working towards rights for humans. It seems she gets a big break through Prince Antet, royalty from a neighboring kingdom. I have to say in book two, City Without a Sun, I had a sneaking suspicion about the prince. I can’t make up my mind if I am pleased or disappointed in the way that turned out. (Can’t tell you that, gives away too much of the story). If you are a lover of vampire stories and like to see a unique twist on them, I think this book will fit the bill. I’m looking forward to the next one.
